What is the World Baseball Classic?

The World Baseball Classic is a tournament that brings together the best baseball players from around the world to compete for their home countries. The tournament was first held in 2006 and has since been held every four years. The most recent edition of the tournament was held in 2017, with the United States winning the championship for the first time.

The tournament consists of 20 national teams divided into four pools of five teams each. The top two teams from each pool advance to the second round, which is also a round-robin format. The top two teams from each second-round pool then advance to the championship round, which is a single-elimination tournament.

Who is playing in the 2023 World Baseball Classic?

Twenty national teams from around the world will compete in the 2023 World Baseball Classic. The teams are:

  • Pool A: Japan, Cuba, Australia, Dominican Republic, and Italy
  • Pool B: United States, Korea, Mexico, Venezuela, and Israel
  • Pool C: Puerto Rico, Canada, Netherlands, Colombia, and Chinese Taipei
  • Pool D: Panama, Brazil, Spain, Germany, and South Africa

The tournament features countless MLB stars, including Mike Trout, Clayton Kershaw, Giancarlo Stanton, Shohei Ohtani, and many others.

When and where is the 2023 World Baseball Classic taking place?

The tournament will take place from March 7 to March 21, 2023, in four different countries: Japan, Mexico, the United States, and Taiwan. The first round will be played in Japan and Mexico, the second round will be played in the United States, and the championship round will be played in Taiwan.
