Wofford transfer BJ Mack cuts list of finalists to 10

The graduate transfer is one of the most sought-after players in the portal.

The Tigers remain in the mix for one of the most sought-after grad transfers in college basketball as they made the cut for Wofford forward [autotag]BJ Mack[/autotag], who recently trimmed his list down to 10 teams according to his Instagram account.

The 6-foot-8 native of Charlotte become a full-time starter for the Terriers over the last two seasons, and he averaged 16.6 points and 5.6 rebounds in 2022-23 while shooting 49.2% from the field. He entered the transfer portal after the season, and he’s received quite a bit of attention since.

Alongside LSU, Mack included Florida, Arkansas, Iowa, Butler, Xavier, Mississippi State, Vanderbilt, Michigan and South Carolina among his finalists.

LSU is competing with a number of good programs here, but this team could really use the help after a disappointing Year 1 campaign from coach [autotag]Matt McMahon[/autotag], who went just 2-16 in SEC play and lost 14 straight games from December to February.

How to Watch: Florida women’s basketball vs Wofford Terriers in WNIT

Here’s how to follow Thursday night’s women’s basketball action in the O’Dome on Thursday.

Florida women’s basketball hosts the Wofford Terriers on Thursday, March 16, inside the O’Connell Center in the 2023 Women’s National Invitation Tournament, and if you’re wondering how you can watch the action live, you’ve come to the right place.

The Gators (16-14, 5-12 SEC) are coming off a loss to the Kentucky Wildcats in their opening game of the Southeastern Conference Tournament back on March 1 and will have some rust to shake off when they take the O’Dome floor. The Terriers (22-9, 10-4 SoCon), on the other hand, made it three games deep into their conference tournament before being knocked out by Chatanooga on March 5.

The two schools have only met twice before — both on a neutral court — with the Orange and Blue emerging victoriously both times in 2016 and 2021.

LSU basketball one of several programs showing interest in Wofford transfer

Matt McMahon is already looking to add reinforcements after a rough year.

After a regular season that saw LSU win just two conference games, [autotag]Matt McMahon[/autotag] is searching for reinforcements.

According to On3, LSU has reached out to former Wofford player and grad transfer [autotag]BJ Mack[/autotag].

Over 20 schools have contacted the 6-foot-8 forward. Mack has averaged 11.9 points per game throughout his career, averaging 16.6 this past season. It was his second-straight year averaging over 16 points.

He’s experienced, having appeared in over 100 games throughout his time in college and starting 69 of them. LSU needs help, and an addition like Mack would go a long way, but there’s some hefty competition.

McMahon is going to need a good sell to add the type of talent LSU needs throughout the offseason. It’s not clear what LSU’s roster will look like next year. There could be a lot of change again, which isn’t a bad thing.

We don’t know where McMahon was just trying to fill holes last year or which guys factor into his long-term plans. Rebuilds take time and a constant shifting of personnel.

Regardless, it’s clear some changes need to be made following a disappointing campaign.

Photos from LSU basketball’s tight win over Wofford

Here were the best photos from Sunday’s tight win over Wofford, which moved LSU to 6-1 in Matt McMahon’s debut season.

The Tigers narrowly moved to 6-1 on Sunday afternoon, defeating a good Wofford team in close fashion with a 78-75 win.

[autotag]Adam Miller[/autotag] had another huge game offensively for the Tigers, notching 26 points, while forward [autotag]KJ Williams[/autotag] finished with 15 points and five rebounds. It was an excellent shooting day for the Tigers in general as they finished above 50% for the day.

Despite a good shooting performance from the Terriers, as well, it wasn’t enough to win this game on the road. LSU returns to the court on Friday night to take on UT Arlington at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.

Monster game from Adam Miller lifts LSU men’s basketball past Wofford

The Tigers narrowly avoided back-to-back losses on Sunday afternoon.

The Tigers narrowly avoided a second-straight loss in their return home against Wofford on Sunday afternoon.

The Terriers led this game by as much as five and held a one-point lead with under three minutes to play, but a late 10-0 run helped seal a 78-75 win over Wofford as LSU moves to 6-1 on the season.

[autotag]Adam Miller[/autotag] led the way for the team with 26 points, tying a season-high. [autotag]KJ Williams[/autotag] also scored in double figures with 15 points and five rebounds, while [autotag]Trae Hannibal[/autotag] scored 12 points coming off the bench. It was an excellent shooting day for the Tigers overall, as they finished shooting 52.8% from the field.

The Terriers had a good day offensively, as well, shooting 48.3% for the game and above 50% in the second half — in which they outscored the Tigers. Unfortunately, 13 turnovers proved costly as those mistakes netted LSU 16 points.

Moving forward, the Tigers will have a bit of a break as they will return to the court on Friday night for a game against UT Arlington at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.

LSU basketball vs. Wofford: Stream, injury report, broadcast info for Sunday’s contest

The 5-1 Tigers will look to bounce back against a solid mid-major opponent in the Terriers.

After a disappointing finish in the Cayman Islands Classic — where LSU beat Illinois State and Akron but fell in the championship matchup against Kansas State after a controversial play at the end, which saw the potential game-tying basket taken off the board — the Tigers return home to host the Wofford Terriers on Sunday afternoon.

The Terriers enter this one at 2-2 but are a respectable mid-major team, ranking No. 157 in KenPom. They’re led by fourth-year coach Jay McAuley, who has a winning record in each of his first three seasons in Spartanburg, South Carolina, but is yet to make the NCAA Tournament.

The 5-1 Tigers will hope to bounce back in this one and are given a 92.2% chance to win, per ESPN’s Basketball Power Index. Here’s what you need to know to follow this one, which tips off at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center at 2 p.m. CT on Sunday afternoon.

SoCon Final: East Tennessee State vs. Wofford odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Monday’s Southern Conference final between East Tennessee State and Wofford, with college basketball betting odds, picks and bets

The Wofford Terriers (19-15) battle the East Tennessee State Buccaneers (29-4) in the Southern Conference title game Monday at 7 p.m. ET at Harrah’s Cherokee Center in Asheville, NC. We analyze the Wofford-East Tennessee State odds and betting lines, while providing college basketball betting tips and advice on this matchup.

East Tennessee State vs. Wofford: Three things you need to know

  1. The 7-seeded Terriers of Wofford have been here before, but they’re heavy underdogs this time around against the top-seeded Buccaneers of ETSU. The Bucs were 16-2 in conference play during the regular season, while the Terriers went 8-10.
  2. ETSU swept the two regular-season meetings, but both games were close. On New Year’s Day, the Bucs topped the Terriers 49-48 in Johnson City, and 60-54 in Spartanburg Feb. 26 in the most recent battle.
  3. The Buccaneers ranked 27th in the country with 63.1 points per game allowed, while the Terriers ranked just 158th in scoring offense at 71.7 PPG.

Prediction

East Tennessee State 62, Wofford 59

Moneyline (ML)

East Tennessee State (-278) is our pick to win this Southern Conference final, but there’s no value in the chalky odds. PASS and look to the spread for better value.

Against the Spread (ATS)

WOFFORD +6.5 (-115) has been here before, and won’t be intimidated. The Terriers have posted a 3-0 straight up/2-0-1 ATS mark in the SoCon tourney so far, and have one more game to finish off another improbable run to the Big Dance. They finished the regular season losing their final seven games, and they ended 2-6 ATS in the final eight. Yet, here they are.

East Tennessee -6.5 (-106) has been a tremendous team for many years. You might remember Keith ‘Mister’ Jennings from 1987-91. The Buccaneers have been a thorn in plenty of teams’ sides in the past, and one made it to the Elite Eight (1968). This is a proud team who will go dancing, but Wofford won’t go without a fight.

Over/Under (O/U)

The UNDER 133.5 (-110) cashed in each of the two regular-season battles, and another defensive game should be on tap here. While Wofford hit the Over in the first three SoCon tournament games, this one will go well Under.
