Wisconsin offers 2025 in-state C Kai Rogers

Wisconsin sends out another in-state offer in the 2025 recruiting class:

After showing out at Wisconsin’s advanced camp this week, Greg Gard and his coaching staff have officially offered 2025 in-state center Kai Rogers out of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

As a freshman, the 6-foot-10, 220-pound C averaged 10.4 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks on 69% shooting from the field for Wauwatosa West High School.

Rogers, a Milwaukee native, already holds offers from Florida State, Illinois, Iowa, Ole Miss, Texas, and now UW.

Right now, the Wauwatosa West standouts bread and butter comes from finishing in the paint and playing through contact. Defensively, he has all the tools that could make him an incredibly high-upside prospect in the 2025 recruiting class.

Four-star wing Gehrig Normand recaps his official visit to Wisconsin

Wisconsin recently had a high-priority wing on campus for an official visit:

Earlier this week, fast-rising four-star wing Gehrig Normand out of North Richland Hills, Texas took an official visit to Wisconsin.

“I think what stood out most was the people. Everyone was so welcoming and so nice,” said Normand.

According to the Rivals recruiting database, the four-star wing is the No. 76 overall prospect in the 2023 recruiting class, and the No. 16 shooting guard in the country.

“We did everything on my visit. I went to Barry Alvarez’s house, was on Facetime with Sam Dekker, hung out with the players, and even did a photo shoot.”

The Birdville High School standout has now taken official visits to both Missouri and Wisconsin. He also plans to visit Texas and Oklahoma State before making a potential decision later this summer.

“I’m looking for somewhere I can be as confident as possible, and a school where I can trust the coach and have them trust me so I can put a product on the floor that wins a National Championship,” Normand told BadgersWire. “Wisconsin is definitely a school I can see myself at, I just need to narrow down everything and see where I fit best.”

As Wisconsin continues trending toward playing position-less basketball, the 6-foot-6, 175-pound wing makes a ton of sense for the Badgers. The Texas native is a tough and versatile scorer who can space the floor with his three-point shooting, and also take defenders off the dribble.

“My first impression of Coach Gard was that he’s one of the nicest coaches I’ve ever met. He’s super relatable and puts himself in other people’s shoes,” said Normand.

Coach Gard is in need of a true wing prospect in the 2023 recruiting class, and has firmly zeroed in on Jamie Kaiser and Gehrig Normand. Both of which would pair nicely with John Blackwell and Gus Yalden who are already committed to UW.

Wisconsin basketball offers 2024 Center Raleigh Burgess

Greg Gard has made a new offer in the 2024 recruiting class:

After taking an unofficial visit to Madison on Thursday, Greg Gard and his coaching staff have officially extended an offer to 2024 center Raleigh Burgess out of Cincinnati, Ohio.

Currently unranked by all reputable recruiting services, the 6-foot-10, 205-pound Sycamore High School standout currently holds offers from Cincinnati, Dayton, Indiana, Iowa, Ohio Ole Miss, Penn State, Purdue, Wake Forest, Wisconsin, and Xavier.

As a sophomore, the Ohio native averaged 10.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks on 62.6% shooting from the field. You can watch his highlights here

Burgess announced his scholarship offer from the University of Wisconsin via his Twitter account:

Connor Essegian talks Wisconsin basketball before he arrives on campus

Wisconsin’s lone scholarship commit in the 2022 recruiting class talks Wisconsin ahead summer workouts:

Wisconsin’s lone scholarship recruit in the 2022 recruiting class Connor Essegian out of Albion, Indiana is set to join the Badgers for summer workouts this upcoming week.

Per the 247Sports composite, Essegian is the No. 230 overall prospect in the 2022 class, the No. 35 shooting guard in the country, and the No. 10 player in the state of Indiana.

Despite missing out on several of their top targets on the recruiting trail, the Badgers were able to secure a verbal commitment from one of the best pure shooters in the entire country – which filled a significant need within the program.

The three-star SG committed to Wisconsin over offers from Creighton, Butler, Wake Forest, George Mason, Belmont, and several others.

“It was the people there. When I finally got on campus for my official visit and got to see how everyone was – I was hooked. I had already loved the basketball, campus, community, and everything else. Once I got to see how everyone was off the court as people – that was what fully made me decide,” Essegian told BadgersWire.

Standing at 6-foot-4, 180 pounds, the Central Noble High School standout leaves behind a storied prep career where he scored 2,526 points, which ranks No. 10 on the all-time scoring list in the state of Indiana.

When he arrives in Madison, Essegian has his eyes set on personal growth in year one.

“A goal of mine as a true freshman is to see a considerable amount of growth in my game and body throughout this next year. I want to be able to contribute to helping the team win with whatever it takes to bring championships back to Madison.”

What exactly should Badger fans expect from the Indiana native during his career at UW?

“A gritty, hard-working player. Someone who can space the floor with three-point shooting but also find ways to make the extra pass and get into the lane as well. Someone who will do whatever it takes to win – diving for loose balls, charges, and rebounding,” said Essegian.

During his memorable senior season, Essegian worked on finding different ways to score the ball outside of his three-point shooting. That said, he acknowledges he’ll need to work on a few things to prepare for the physicality of the Big Ten.

“Even though I’ve gotten faster and stronger, I’ll need to improve my strength, speed, and athleticism as well as defending and finishing above the rim.”

Essegian should be a seamless fit into the Wisconsin men’s basketball program from an offensive standpoint, but how does he see himself fitting into Coach Gards’ offense?

“Watching film with Coach Gard and watching their games all the time I can see that the way I move without the ball, my ability to space the floor, and being a versatile scorer work well with how he already runs his offense. Not only that, but just how hard and together everyone plays fits what I do as well,” Essegian told BadgersWire.

Wisconsin is set to begin an eight-week summer workout program that begins on June 13, where the Badgers will get in the weight room and gain extra practice in preparation for their trip to France in August.

A look at what makes Coach Krabbenhoft so valuable to Wisconsin

Coach Krabbenhoft is really coming into his own for the Badgers:

When Greg Gard took over as head coach of the Wisconsin men’s basketball program, he wasted little time bringing back former Badger Joe Krabbenhoft as an assistant coach on his new look staff back in 2016.

Dakota Joe had previously served as a video coordinator at Wisconsin from 2012-13 under Bo Ryan, before working as an assistant coach at South Dakota State from 2014-16 under Scott Nagy.

As a player at UW, Krabbenhoft was known as one of the toughest players to ever don the cardinal and white. Unofficially, my father contends he holds the program record for most stitches received while wearing a Badger uniform.

The 6-foot-7 forward appeared in 136 career games for Wisconsin, including 70 starts, and was named to the All-Big Ten Defensive Team in 2008. Krabbenhoft was a consummate professional, a glue guy, and a proven winner.

During his time as an assistant at UW, the South Dakota native has served as a mentor to many, and helped lead Wisconsin to two Big Ten regular season championships and an NCAA Tournament appearance in all but one season while on staff.

What makes Joe Krabbenhoft so valuable to Wisconsin?

Now, entering his seventh season on the Badgers coaching staff, Coach Krabbenhoft appears to really be hitting his stride as an undeniable asset beyond the experience and credibility he brings to the court.

Known as a highly passionate, and relatable players coach, Krabbenhoft is also becoming the Badgers ace in the hole on the recruiting trail.

Since 2019, Coach Krabbenhoft has been the lead recruiter on 10 of the last 14 scholarship players who have signed with the Badgers. A list that includes Johnny Davis, Tyler Wahl, Ben Carlson, Steven Crowl, Jordan Davis, Carter Gilmore, Chucky Hepburn, Matthew Mors, and most recently Gus Yalden.

One thing is abundantly clear, coach Gard has the utmost trust in Krabbenhoft’s abilities to represent, and sell the school as well as anybody he works with – hence the high priority assignments.

Still just 35 years of age, Coach Krabbenhoft appears to be a rising star on the Wisconsin Badgers coaching staff and has an incredibly bright future ahead of him.

Three-star SF Gehrig Normand sets official visit date to Wisconsin

A recently offered three-star SF has set an official visit date to Madison:

Things are continuing to move quickly between the Badgers and recently offered three-star wing Gehrig Normand out of North Richland Hills, Texas.

Evan Flood of 247Sports recently reported that Normand has scheduled three official visits in the month of June, a list that includes Missouri, Wisconsin on June 20-21, and Texas.

“I watched a lot of Wisconsin during March Madness and I always loved the way they played,” said Normand.

Per 247sports, the three-star wing is the No. 109 overall prospect in the 2023 recruiting class, the No. 20 small forward in the country, and the No. 8 player in the state of Texas.

“I’m looking for somewhere I can be as confident as possible, and a school where I can trust the coach and have them trust me so I can put a product on the floor that wins a National Championship,” Normand told BadgersWire.

The Birdville High School standout also holds offers from Colorado State, Kansas State, New Mexico, Oklahoma State, Oral Roberts, Rice, SMU, TCU, Tennessee, Xavier and a host of other schools.

Standing at 6-foot-6, 175-pounds, the Texas native is a tough, versatile scorer, who can space the floor with his three-point shooting, and also uses his size to take defenders off the dribble.

“I’m looking for somewhere I can be as confident as possible, and a school where I can trust the coach and have them trust me so I can put a product on the floor that wins a National Championship,” said Normand.

Coach Gard is in need of a true wing in the 2023 recruiting class, and has zeroed in on Jamie Kaiser and Gehrig Normand, both of which would make a ton of sense in terms of playing style.

Wisconsin makes top nine list for 2023 four-star SF Jamie Kaiser

Wisconsin makes the top nine for a four-star forward in the 2023 recruiting class:

After taking official visits to both Wisconsin and Virginia, newly minted four-star small forward Jamie Kaiser has officially trimmed his list of schools down to nine.

Moving forward, the Virginia native will be focusing on Wisconsin, Virginia, Indiana, Miami, Boston College, Iowa, Wake Forest, West Virginia, and Maryland.

Per 247sports, Kaiser is the No. 77 overall prospect in the 2023 recruiting class, the No. 14 small forward in the country, and the No. 2 player in the state of Virginia.

Standing at 6-foot-6, 200-pounds, Kaiser has excellent size out on the wing, can post up smaller defenders, and is a knockdown three-point shooter that would fit seamlessly into a program like Wisconsin.

The Virginia native averaged 20.7 points and 7.1 rebounds this past season. You can watch Kaiser’s junior season highlights here.

Wisconsin makes top three for 2024 four-star F Cooper Koch

The Badgers make the top three for a four-star F in the 2024 recruiting class:

After Greg Gard offered 2024 forward Cooper Koch back in September, the four-star wing out of Peoria, Illinois has officially narrowed down his list of schools down to three.

According to a report by Sean Bock of 247Sports, the Illinois native will be focusing on Iowa, Wisconsin, and Purdue moving forward. He also held offers from Bradley, Illinois, Indiana, Wake Forest, and Western Illinois.

Per 247sports, Koch is the No. 51 overall prospect in the 2024 recruiting class, the No. 8 PF in the country, and the No. 4 player in the state of Illinois.

As a sophomore, the 6-foot-7, 205-pound forward averaged 16 points, seven rebounds, four assists, two steals, and one block on 49% shooting from beyond the arc for Notre Dame High School.

It will be interesting to see which Big Ten school ultimately lands the talented four-star forward, as he appears to be headed towards an early commitment.
