Wisconsin football will host a 2023 in-state EDGE rusher this weekend

Wisconsin is set to host a 2023 three-star EDGE rusher for the second time this season:

Wisconsin football will host a familiar in-state face on Saturday when they take on the Purdue Boilermakers at Camp Randall Stadium.

After visiting Wisconsin back on October 1, 2023 in-state edge rusher Evan Herrmann out of Sussex, Wisconsin, will take a second unofficial visit to UW on October 22.

Per 247Sports, the three-star prospect is the No. 131 EDGE rusher in the 2023 recruiting class and the No. 5 player in Wisconsin.

Although he only holds offers from Ohio, Wyoming, and Vanderbilt, Hermann has also heard from Iowa, Iowa State, Michigan State, and several others.

The 6-foot-6, 210-pound linebacker is a star track athlete and has emerged as a potential diamond in the rough, given his projectable frame and impressive athletic traits.

You can watch his HUDL film here.

I can confirm that there is significant mutual interest here; it’s just a matter of a scholarship finally being offered.

For a 2023 recruiting class that has fallen stagnant for myriad reasons, I don’t think it would be wise to pass on a late bloomer like Herrmann.

Ghea is just the second tight end Wisconsin has offered in the 2025 recruiting cycle, along with Arizona native Bear Tenney.

According to MaxPreps, as a sophomore for Milton High School, Ghea has caught four passes for 65 yards in five varsity games.

Wisconsin Badgers WR commit Collin Dixon posting huge numbers as a senior

2023 WR commit Collin Dixon is posting huge numbers through the first three games of his senior season:

Under wide receivers coach Alvis Whitted, Wisconsin has made a concerted effort to recruit and develop bigger, more athletic players in hopes of landing a dynamic threat to put the offense over the top.

While the early returns have been promising, it’s hard not to get excited about the position’s future, especially as it pertains to 2023 WR Collin Dixon out of Tallmadge, Ohio.

Per 247sports Composite, Dixon is the No. 962 overall prospect in the 2023 recruiting class, the No. 85 ATH in the country, and the No. 28 player in Ohio.

Coming off a monster junior season for Tallmadge High School, Dixon has followed that up by posting 25 catches for 509 yards (169.7 YPG) and five touchdowns, according to MaxPreps.

The 6-foot-2, 205-pound WR committed to Wisconsin over offers from Akron, Ball State, Buffalo, Duke, Illinois, Indiana, Marshall, Pittsburgh, Purdue, and several others.

The future of Wisconsin’s WR room looks bright, and the Badgers may have found a diamond in the rough with Dixon.

You can watch his HUDL film from his most recent game here.

Where Wisconsin football lands in ESPN’s preseason power rankings

Where do the Badgers land?

We are just 17 days away from Wisconsin football beginning their 2022 campaign.

Preseason rankings are in their final stages with the AP Poll recently being released and other national outlets putting together their final thoughts.

ESPN recently released their final preseason rankings, and there were no surprises at the top. The rest of the list, however, could be up for debate. Wisconsin was included in the list of 25 teams with the Badgers’ biggest question mark being listed as the cornerback room.

The cornerbacks? Sure, Wisconsin has new transfer pieces in Justin Clark, Jay Shaw, and Cedrick Dort Jr., but Jim Leonhard’s history should have Badger fans feeling comfortable. The other side of the ball, however, still has a number of interesting question marks.

Here is a look at where the Badgers fell in ESPN’s top 25 power rankings:

Bubu Benjamin, a 2023 SF, will take an official visit to Wisconsin

Wisconsin will host fast-rising SF Bubu Benjamin on an official visit in September:

According to a report from Garrett Tucker, the director of scouting for Marquee hoops, 2023 wing Bubu Benjamin has a three-day official visit scheduled with the University of Wisconsin from September 16-18.

The 6-foot-7, 210-pound small forward currently holds offers from Montana State, Northern Arizona, Lehigh, and Howard.

Unranked by reputable recruiting services, Benjamin has recently seen an uptick in his recruitment, hearing from Wisconsin, Arizona State, Santa Clara, Pepperdine, Minnesota, Cal, and Utah State.

The fast-rising senior, who attends Edge School in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, is a good athlete that can score at all three levels. He shows good size and playmaking ability on film, with the tools to be a versatile defender.

With the recent addition of Jack Janicki as a PWO, the need for another wing isn’t an absolute must. Still, there is no denying that Benjamin would add a completely different element to this roster. I, for one, am very intrigued by his talent and versatility on both ends of the floor.

Wisconsin Makes Top Four List for Canadian-Born Center Cyril Martynov

Wisconsin makes the cut for a high-priority big man:

The University of Wisconsin desperately needs a big man to round their roster for the upcoming season, but has struck out at every stop along the way.

On Tuesday, 2023 center Cyril Martynov, who coach Gard offered a scholarship last month, released his top four schools.

Moving forward, 6-foot-11, 230-pound C will focus on Wisconsin, Georgia Tech, Northwestern, and Missouri.

The offer from UW is still contingent on him reclassifying to the 2022 recruiting class and joining the program this fall, although there have been rumblings they’d still consider him for 2023.

“Right now, they [UW] are pitching the development aspect for 2022, which would obviously be much better at the University,” Martynov explained.

Martynov previously shared with BadgersWire that his original plan was to return to school and be a member of the 2023 recruiting class. Still, he and his family will discuss all options for the upcoming season.

The unranked big man had initially stated he planned on taking an official visit to Wisconsin sometime in August, although there has been no word about a date getting scheduled.

“I’m looking for a mix of high-level basketball and academics while also having a coach that values my development and is willing to work with me towards my goals,” Martynov said.

It’s also worth noting that there is currently a crystal ball prediction for Martynov to commit to Georgia Tech, which is coincidentally the only school in his top four that he’s visited.

Behind Steven Crowl, UW is thin in the frontcourt and needs someone who can step in and play immediately; otherwise, the Badgers will have to rely on unproven 6-foot-9 redshirt freshman Chris Hodges to step into Chris Vogt’s vacated role.
