Wisconsin 2022 QB commit Myles Burkett continues to light up the Badger State

The future Badger has had a tremendous season with Franklin

Wisconsin 2022 QB commit Myles Burkett took an official visit to Madison on June 17. Since that official visit, he has yet to lose a high school game at Franklin.

Burkett’s senior season with the Franklin Sabers is off to a perfect 10-0 start, as this week his team won their WIAA Level 1 playoff game over Milwaukee Riverside in a 62-12 route.

Burkett has been close to perfect on the year, throwing for 28 touchdowns and only a pair of interceptions, rushing for 7.9 yards per carry and four rushing touchdowns, and helping to lead his team to an unblemished record through ten weeks.

The three-star prospect will be a Wisconsin Badger next season, but will hope to finish out his high school career with a state championship. Burkett and the Sabers take on Oak Creek this Friday in their WIAA Level 2 playoff game.

WATCH: Two incredible runs give Wisconsin the lead at Purdue

The Badgers take the lead on an incredible pair of runs

In vintage Wisconsin fashion, the Badgers relied on their running backs to give themselves a third-quarter lead at Purdue. UW went 94 yards in only three plays as the Badgers took a 20-13 advantage a little more than halfway through the third quarter.

It started with the longest play of Braelon Allen’s young career, as the Badger freshman broke free down the right side for a 70-yard run. Then, only two plays later Clemson transfer Chez Mellusi broke off the best run of his Wisconsin career as he made Purdue miss with a vicious spin in the backfield before breaking through for a 20-yard touchdown.

A Wisconsin Badger makes PFF’s Defensive Team of the Week

A Badger named to the PFF Team of the Week

Watching Wisconsin linebacker defend Army’s triple option was hard to believe at times on Saturday. During the Badgers’ 20-14 win over the Black Knights, Chenal lined up in a variety of spots, and had plays where he was in the backfield so fast that he nearly took the snap from the Army center.

Chenal also came up with the game-sealing play for the Badgers, exploding off the snap into the backfield to force a fourth-quarter strip sack and give Wisconsin the win.

The inside linebacker tallied a career-high 17 tackles in the win, and earned himself a spot on Pro Football Focus’ Defensive Team of the Week in college football.

BTN Tailgate is headed to Wisconsin this week

Big Ten Tailgate is headed to Madison

The Big Ten Network is headed to Madison, Wisconsin on Saturday when the Badgers host Army.

Although the Wisconsin-Army clash is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. CT start, the day will get started early with the BIG Tailgate at 9:00 a.m. CT in Madison. Big Ten Network will be showing two matchups on Saturday, beginning with Rutgers at Northwestern at 11:00 am CT.

While Wisconsin has had FOX’s Big Noon Kickoff show on campus, they have yet to have a Big Ten Network tailgate this season. Under the lights at Camp Randall Wisconsin will look to pick up their second straight win. The Badgers can get back to .500 on the year with another victory.

Who is the greatest college football player ever from the state of Wisconsin?

Fox Sports looked at the best college football player from every state

The Badger State has produced a number of excellent talents on the football field throughout the last few decades. Wisconsin football has been lucky enough to see many of them make the short drive to Madison and suit up as a Badger.

Fox Sports’ Sean Merriman and RJ Young recently took a look at the all-time greatest college football player from each state, and to no Badger fans surprise Wisconsin’s selection was also a UW-Madison alum. Merriman and Young selected Joe Thomas as the Badger State pick. The once upon a time star offensive lineman from Brookfield, Wisconsin made his way to Madison in 2003 where he spent four fantastic seasons.

Thomas was a two-time All-Big Ten player as a Badger and picked up the Outland Trophy as a senior, an award given to the nation’s best offensive lineman each season. The former Cleveland Brown and 10-time Pro Bowl selectee was not the only Badger on the list, however.

Ron Dayne, Wisconsin’s all-time leader in rushing yards, was named the best player from the state of Virginia. Dayne took home the Heisman Trophy in 1999 during his final year as a Badger. He finished his Wisconsin career with 7,125 rushing yards, a number that still stands alone at the top of the record books in Madison.

It’s fitting to see a running back and an offensive lineman, the two positions Wisconsin football is known for, being recognized.

Paul Chryst, RB Chez Mellusi comment on the dismissal of RB Jalen Berger

Paul Chryst, Chez Mellusi comment on Jalen Berger’s dismissal from the Wisconsin football program

It’s no surprise as to what the initial questions for Wisconsin head coach Paul Chryst would center around during Monday’s press conference. On Sunday, the Badgers announced the dismissal of RB Jalen Berger from the Wisconsin program. The move came after the 2020 four-star recruit had surprisingly played only sparingly in Wisconsin’s first four games, before not playing at all against Illinois.

On Monday, it was apparent that Chryst was ready to move on to this week’s matchup with Army.

“I spoke with Jalen yesterday, and I am going to keep that between me and Jalen,” said Chryst when asked about Berger’s dismissal. Chryst declined to go any further on the matter.

Starting RB Chez Mellusi was caught off guard by Berger’s dismissal, and talked about his relationship with the New Jersey native when asked about the situation on Monday.

“Im going to continue to support him,” Mellusi said on Monday. “I donโ€™t know much about the situation, thatโ€™s kind of out of my hands. I just told him I’m here for him and I’m going to continue to support him.”

While the full story may never be out there, the move did come as a surprise to many including Mellusi, who was Berger’s roommate during road trips. Berger appeared in seven games at Wisconsin, and finished his Badger career with 389 yards on 84 carries.

The Saturday schedule for Wisconsin fans headed to the Notre Dame game

Wisconsin fans can expect a ton of pregame fun on Saturday

The pregame festivities at Soldier Field on Saturday will probably go unmatched throughout the rest of the year. With Wisconsin and Notre Dame set to do battle, ESPN College GameDay and Fox’s Big Noon Kickoff are both coming to town.

While a neutral site game comes with some unknown territory for Badger fans, Wisconsin football announced there would be many familiar game day traditions taking place in Chicago. It all starts with College GameDay right outside of the Soldier Field main entrance at 8 a.m. CT followed by a free UW Alumni “Gameday pep rally,” set for 9:15 a.m. CT.

Here is a look at the complete schedule for Badger fans on Saturday courtesy of Wisconsin football on Twitter:

LOOK: Wisconsin will debut an all-new jersey for the Notre Dame game

Wisconsin will debut a new jersey this Saturday:

Wisconsin will be going with a fresh, new alternate uniform for their clash with Notre Dame on Saturday.

The new jersey was announced earlier this offseason, but the Badgers made wearing them against Notre Dame official this week. The new design is known as the “forward jersey,” and is an all-white alternate look that takes the Badgers back in time.

Wisconsin football had more on the meaning of the uniform:

The Badgers will wear a special white โ€œForwardโ€ uniform set to honor the state of Wisconsin. The helmet and pants feature a version of the Motion W logo that includes the stripe from the Wisconsin state flag emblazoned with the state motto, โ€œForward.โ€

Four Wisconsin Badgers are listed as questionable to play against Notre Dame

Four Badger players are listed as questionable headed into Week 4:

Wisconsin’s preliminary status report for Week 4’s matchup with Notre Dame is out, and there are four Badger players listed as questionable, two of which are usual starters on the defense.

While CB Al Ashford III, TE Cole Dakovich, and LS Duncan McKinley are all out for the season, a number of Wisconsin players are unsure of their status headed into Saturday.
