Ten reasons why Washington State shocked Wisconsin

How did the Badgers drop this game?

Heading into 2022, if you told a Wisconsin fan the summary of how the Badgers were upset by Washington State they probably wouldn’t believe you.

The Cougars came away with a 17-14 win in a game where Graham Mertz shined? He what? Yes, the Kansas native played arguably the best game of his Badger career since his debut against Illinois and Wisconsin came up short.

The Badgers offensive line was pushed around by a fast, physical Cougars defense. They were what? Yes, the Wisconsin offensive line was arguably the weakest link on the field today for the team wearing red.

How did Wisconsin fall to 1-1 as an over two touchdown favorite? Here are ten reasons:

The Badgers fall short at Camp Randall

Graham Mertz played extremely well, Wisconsin dominated time of possession, and the Badgers had over twice as many first downs as the Washington State Cougars on Saturday afternoon at Camp Randall. The Badgers also lost the football game 17-14.

Nothing quite made sense on a strange Saturday, as self-inflicted mistakes from Wisconsin and high-level play from the Cougars defense sparked an upset at Camp Randall.

The Badgers dropped to 1-1 early in the season in spite of Mertz throwing for a pair of touchdowns and 227 yards. How did Wisconsin Twitter and national college football Twitter react to the loss? Here is a look:

Where Wisconsin football lands in ESPN’s preseason power rankings

Where do the Badgers land?

We are just 17 days away from Wisconsin football beginning their 2022 campaign.

Preseason rankings are in their final stages with the AP Poll recently being released and other national outlets putting together their final thoughts.

ESPN recently released their final preseason rankings, and there were no surprises at the top. The rest of the list, however, could be up for debate. Wisconsin was included in the list of 25 teams with the Badgers’ biggest question mark being listed as the cornerback room.

The cornerbacks? Sure, Wisconsin has new transfer pieces in Justin Clark, Jay Shaw, and Cedrick Dort Jr., but Jim Leonhard’s history should have Badger fans feeling comfortable. The other side of the ball, however, still has a number of interesting question marks.

Here is a look at where the Badgers fell in ESPN’s top 25 power rankings:

Kendric Pryor tops PFF’s WR leaderboard in Week 1 of NFL preseason

The Badgers wide receiver had a fantastic debut

Former Wisconsin Badger Kendric Pryor got off to a sensational start in his NFL career this past weekend.

The Badger turned Cincinnati Bengal hauled in an incredible one-handed catch that was undoubtedly the play of the weekend, and scored a touchdown in a 36-23 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. When it was all said and done, Pryor finished with a game-high four grabs for 89 receiving yards and a touchdown.

As a result of his Week 1 performance, Pro Football Focus graded Pryor as the top receiver and the second-best overall offensive player. He had a receiving grade of 92.0 and an overall offensive grade of 92.5 in the loss.

The former Badger announces his retirement

Super Bowl champion James White announced his retirement from the NFL earlier this week.

The New England Patriots running back is calling it a career after eight seasons as a member of the team. White was at Wisconsin from 2010-13, and had a pair of 1,000+ rushing yard seasons as well as 51 total touchdowns over his four-year run in Madison.

When the Super Bowl hero announced his retirement on social media, reactions began to pour in from players, fans, and the Badger community. The former Big Ten Freshman of the Year ended up a three-time Super Bowl champion when his career was all said and done. Here is a look at some of the most notable reactions:

The best Madden 23 ratings for Badgers in the NFL

Which Badgers led the way in Madden 23 ratings?

It was down to the wire for a pair of Badgers as to who would have the highest rating in Madden 23 among Wisconsin alumni.

Steelers linebacker T.J. Watt leads the way for defensive players out of Madison as he checks in with the highest rating of his career. Colts running back Jonathan Taylor is among the highest movers in terms of rating from the beginning of last year to the beginning of this year.

A number of other Badgers came in with impressive numbers, but Taylor and Watt lead the way. Here is a look at the best ratings for notable Badgers in the NFL:

Wisconsin offers 2024 RB Gideon Ituka

The Badgers offer RB Gideon Ituka

The Badgers have been active on the 2024 recruiting trail in recent weeks, and that continued when Wisconsin offered running back Gideon Ituka out of Maryland.

The Maryland native announced the news on his Twitter account, and said the offer came after a “great conversation with Bobby Engram,” who is Wisconsin’s new offensive coordinator.

Ituka plays his high school football at Gaithersburg High School in Maryland. He also holds offers from Boston College, Liberty, and Maryland in this early stage of the process.

While the 5-foot-9 speedster is not yet ranked by 247Sports, he has already picked up multiple high-profile offers.
