Wisconsin center Joe Tippmann is headed to the New York Jets

The first Badger is off the board!

The first Wisconsin Badger is officially off the board in the 2023 NFL draft. With the No. 43 overall selection, the New York Jets have selected Wisconsin center Joe Tippmann.

Tippmann was regarded by many as the top center in the 2023 class, and the Jets were a team with tons of needs along the offensive line.

The 6-foot-6, 313-pound Badger offensive lineman will bring needed size and skill to the Jets. He has an excellent chance to be a day one starter in New York.

The Indiana native was a 2022 honorable mention All-Big Ten selection and played in 12 games as Wisconsin’s starting center. He allowed only one sack and five pressures over 338 snaps at center.

The Badgers’ head coach Luke Fickell had a few main priorities when taking the job a few months ago. At the top of that list? Bring strength and conditioning coach Brady Collins over from Cincinnati and revamp the weight room experience.

If Twitter is any indication, friendly competition has been at the top of the list for Collins and the Badgers in the weight room this winter. From tug of war to one-on-one battles on the assault bike, the Badgers have been getting after it.

The latest post? How about some team sits? Who wants a seat at the table?

Wisconsin football offers the son of NFL legend Brian Urlacher

Wisconsin football offers the son of NFL legend Brian Urlacher

On Monday afternoon, the Badgers got in on the son of an NFL legend. Wisconsin offered three-star safety Kennedy Urlacher out of Arizona.

Urlacher is the son of Chicago Bears legend Brian Urlacher, who was NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2005, a four-time First-Team All-Pro selection, and one of the all-time greats at linebacker.

Kennedy Urlacher holds in-state offers from Arizona and Arizona State, as well as another Big Ten offer from Iowa among many others.

On the same day that Wisconsin’s offer came in, he received an offer from Notre Dame.

Urlacher posted about the Badger offer on Twitter:

Wisconsin Twitter reacts as the Badgers win the Guaranteed Rate Bowl

The Badgers take the Guaranteed Rate Bowl

In a fitting way for the Jim Leonhard era at Wisconsin to come to a close, the Badger defense stood tall late for a 24-17 win over Oklahoma State in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl.

A Cedrick Dort Jr. interception with just under three minutes left all but sealed a Wisconsin win as the Badgers won their eighth bowl game in the last nine years.

Braelon Allen paced the Wisconsin offense with another 100-yard game on the ground, as the Fond Du Lac native finished with 116 rushing yards and a touchdown.

Chase Wolf was under center for the entirety of the night, and shook off an early red zone interception to lead Wisconsin to victory.

Here is how Badger Twitter reacted to the win:

WATCH: Luke Fickell speaks on Wisconsin football’s 2023 class

The Badgers land a solid 2023 class

The Badgers had a successful signing day on Wednesday filled with a few surprises along the way.

Luke Fickell spoke with the media surrounding a successful signing day during his early days with the Badgers.

A 14-person class was headlined by another Cincinnati flip as four-star cornerback Amare Snowden followed Fickell. Another surprise flip came from WR Trech Kekahuna as he chose the Badgers over Arizona. The brand is strong and Coach Fickell has only enhanced that strength early in his tenure as the head man.

Here is some of what Wisconsin’s new head coach had to say to the media regarding his 2023 Badger class:

Wisconsin appealed Nick Herbig’s targeting call and the verdict is in

The Badgers appeal the targeting call

Wisconsin lost arguably their best overall player in the second half of Saturday’s win over Nebraska when edge rusher Nick Herbig was ejected after a questionable targeting call.

With the targeting ejection, Herbig would be required to miss the first half of Saturday’s game against Minnesota. The Badgers made their plans to appeal the call clear after Saturday’s game, and the verdict is now in.

Interim head coach Jim Leonhard believes Herbig was actually trying to avoid contact with Nebraska quarterback Casey Thompson:

“He was committed to making a tackle and did everything he could to avoid contact, as far as rolling off. It’s unfortunate that it was called that way and hopefully, we can get it changed, but I don’t know what the likelihood of that will be.”

Here is a look at the play:

Chimere Dike did something only one other Badger has done since 2000

It was a career day for the Badgers’ WR1

Last Saturday’s route of Northwestern saw many firsts for Wisconsin football. Graham Mertz became the first Badger quarterback to throw for five touchdowns in multiple games, Jim Leonhard picked up his first win as Wisconsin head coach, and Chimere Dike became the first Badger in just under 20 years to put up three touchdowns and at least 175 receiving yards.

Dike finished with a game-high 185 receiving yards on ten grabs, and scored three times in the process.

The only other Badger wide receiver to go for 175 yards and three touchdowns since 2000? If you are a Wisconsin football history buff, your first guess is probably the right one. It was none other than Lee Evans, who did it against Michigan State back in 2003.
