Indiana at Wisconsin: Betting odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 8:20 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Indiana +380 (bet $100 to win $380) | Wisconsin -500 (bet $500 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Indiana +13 (-110) | Wisconsin -13 (-110)
  • Over/Under: 44.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Indiana at Wisconsin: Three things to know

  1. Indiana relied on its defense and ground game in a 27-11 rout of Maryland last week. QB Michael Penix Jr. exited the game with an injury in the second half, which turned out to be a season-ending torn ACL. Sophomore QB Jack Tuttle will be under center for the Hoosiers Saturday.
  2. Wisconsin had its previous game with Minnesota canceled due to a COVID-19 outbreak within the Golden Gophers football program. The Badgers put up a clunker their last game as touchdown-favorites with a 17-7 loss to then-No. 20 Northwestern.
  3. Wisconsin has owned Indiana whenever they’ve played over the past decade, going 5-0 straight up and ATS with a 47.8-point average margin of victory. The last meeting was a 45-17 Wisconsin win in 2017.

Indiana at Wisconsin: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Wisconsin 24, Indiana 16

Money line (ML)

Officially, PASS but with a slight lean to Indiana (+380) because I am taking the points and I generally like to sprinkle on the underdog’s money line when grabbing the points. Given the absence of Penix, I’ll probably lay off Indiana’s money line.

Against the spread (ATS)

We are getting some value on Indiana because of the unfortunate injury to Penix. No doubt Penix was having a great season but Tuttle is a 4-star recruit so there’s a chance we see some quality play from Indiana’s backup.

Also, this Wisconsin team is somewhere in between its 7-point effort against Northwestern and its back-to-back 40-point performances in its first 2 games. Wisconsin’s defense grades out as top 5 across most categories but the Badgers haven’t played Ohio State yet whereas Indiana did (42-35 loss on Nov. 21).

Furthermore, there is a lot to like about this Indiana defense: 1st in opponent’s red-zone conversion percentage, 17th in sack rate and 25th in opponent’s completion percentage.

Finally, Wisconsin’s readiness is a complete wild card because of its COVID-altered schedule. The Badgers had an impromptu bye last week and were off 3 weeks in between their first and second games.

GIMME INDIANA +13 (-110) for 1 unit.

Over/Under (O/U)

Indiana’s defense knows it needs to step up with Penix sidelined due to injury. Plus, Wisconsin has blown the doors off of Indiana historically and you know this group of Hoosiers doesn’t want to get worked by the Badgers like previous seasons.

All that is baked into the projected total of 44.5. I know it’s perhaps a square play but I lean UNDER 44.5 (-110) for a half-unit. Indiana will want to shorten the game and Wisconsin naturally eats the clock (1st in net time of possession).

Wisconsin at Marquette odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Friday’s Wisconsin Badgers at Marquette Golden Eagles sports betting odds and lines, with college basketball betting picks, tips and predictions.

The Wisconsin Badgers (3-0) stay in state for a non-conference meeting against the Marquette Golden Eagles (2-1) Friday at Fiserv Forum. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Wisconsin-Marquette college basketball betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

USA TODAY Sports ranked the Badgers No. 7 in the preseason Men’s Basketball Poll.

Wisconsin at Marquette: Betting odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 1 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: Wisconsin -190 (bet $190 to win $100) | Marquette +155 (bet $100 to win $155)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Wisconsin -4 (-110) | Marquette +4 (-110)
  • Over/Under: 133.5 (O: -115 | U: -105)

Wisconsin at Marquette: Three things to know

  1. Wisconsin blew the doors off of Green Bay 82-42 giving the Badgers their first cover of the season (25.5-point favorites). The Badgers defense has been relentless inside the arc, ranking 7th in 2-point percentage and leading the country in blocks per game (8.0).
  2. Marquette was flummoxed by Oklahoma State’s zone defense in a 70-62 loss in its previous outing. The Golden Eagles shot poorly from everywhere on the court vs. the Cowboys: 34% from the field, 28% 3-point shooting and 67% from the free-throw line.
  3. Marquette was trounced 77-61 at Wisconsin as 2-point favorites last season. This intrastate rivalry has been competitive recently. The Golden Eagles have won the previous two games and the head-to-head series is split 5-5 over the past 10 meetings.

Wisconsin at Marquette: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Wisconsin 68, Marquette 60

Money line (ML)

PASS ON THE MONEY LINE. I am backing Wisconsin in this spot but these teams are 5-5 over their past 10 head-to-head meetings so Marquette winning wouldn’t be a shock. Wisconsin at -190 is too expensive for me.

Against the spread (ATS)

After seeing what Oklahoma State’s zone did against Marquette and given how poorly the Golden Eagles shoot from deep, I “LIKE” WISCONSIN -4 (-110) for 1 unit.

Marquette needs to make 3s if it wants to keep it close because Wisconsin’s two bigs (Cs Micah Potter and Nate Reuvers) are closing off the paint. The Golden Eagles got smoked in last year’s meeting despite shooting 47% from three and playing against a Badgers team that struggled in the early part of last season.

This is the best the Wisconsin basketball program has looked in head coach Greg Gard’s fifth full season and it’ll get past a Marquette team it’s familiar with.

Over/Under (O/U)

It’s only the first few games of the season for each team but both markedly improved their defense year over year. Marquette went from mediocre to very good in defensive efficiency and Wisconsin has gone from elite to even more elite defensively.

Both teams are holding opponents to fewer  than 60 points per game as Marquette is 12th in opponent field-goal shooting and Wisconsin is 15th. Also, the Badgers like to grind teams down and have one of the slowest paces in the country.

Lastly, the market has taken the Under from 138 to its current price. I am not crazy about being this late to the party but let’s follow the money and TAKE UNDER 133.5 (-105) for 1 unit.

Arkansas-Pine Bluff at Wisconsin odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Friday’s Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions at Wisconsin Badgers sports betting odds and lines, with college basketball betting picks, tips and predictions.

The Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions (0-1) and Wisconsin Badgers (1-0) meet Friday in Madison, Wis., at 9 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Arkansas-Pine Bluff-Wisconsin college basketball betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Arkansas-Pine Bluff at Wisconsin: Betting odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 8:35 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: There was no money line listed at the time of publishing.
  • Against the spread/ATS: Arkansas-Pine Bluff +34 (-110) | Wisconsin -34 (-110)
  • Over/Under: 126.5 (O: -115 | U: -106)

Arkansas-Pine Bluff at Wisconsin: Three things to know

  1. Pine Bluff opened with a 99-57 blowout loss against Marquette in Wednesday’s opener; it was unable to cover a 31.5-point spread as the Over (137) comfortably cashed, mostly thanks to the Golden Eagles. F Shaun Doss was a bright spot for APB, posting 27 points.
  2. Wisconsin pushed past Eastern Illinois in its opener Wednesday, winning 77-67; however, the Badgers didn’t come close to covering a 21.5-point spread. They frittered away a 23-point halftime lead by getting outscored 47-34 in the second half. Wisconsin and EIU tied with 35 rebounds apiece.
  3. Wisconsin F Nate Reuvers was good for 18 points, 9 rebounds and 5 blocked shots, while G D’Mitrik Trice had 5 assists and 3 steals.

Arkansas-Pine Bluff at Wisconsin: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Wisconsin 82, Arkansas-Pine Bluff 54

Money line (ML)

The money line wasn’t available at the time of publishing, likely due to the lopsided line. It wouldn’t be worth pursuing, anyway.

Against the spread (ATS)

ARKANSAS-PINE BLUFF +34 (-110) is worth a play, even though it was blasted by Marquette in the season-opener. Wisconsin struggled with Eastern Illinois in the second half, playing reserves down the stretch to gain valuable hands-on experience. If the Badgers build another big lead, we might see the same thing.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 126.5 (-115) is the play, as Arkansas-Pine Bluff was lit up for 99 points in the opener. The Lions looked overmatched against Marquette, and Wisconsin is arguably a better team. While the Badgers are a little more deliberate on the offensive end, and not nearly as up-tempo as the Golden Eagles, they’ll still pile up plenty of offense against the Golden Lions in this one, especially on their home hardwood.

Eastern Illinois at Wisconsin odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Wednesday’s Eastern Illinois Panthers vs. Wisconsin Badgers sports betting odds and lines, with college basketball betting picks, tips and predictions.

In Wednesday college hoops action, the Eastern Illinois Panthers and Wisconsin Badgers tip off their season at the Kohl Center in Madison, Wis., at 10 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Eastern Illinois-Wisconsin college basketball betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Eastern Illinois at Wisconsin: Betting odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 10:45 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Eastern Illinois +1200 (bet $100 to win $1,200) | Wisconsin -3334 (bet $3,334 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Eastern Illinois +20.5 (-110) | Wisconsin -20.59 (-110)
  • Over/Under: 134.5 (O: -115 | U: -106)

Eastern Illinois at Wisconsin: Three things to know

  1. Eastern Illinois checked in just above .500 in the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) at 16-14 last season, including a stellar 11-3 mark on its home floor. The Panthers struggled away from home, victorious in just five of 16 trips. They also ended up just 12-16 ATS, with the Over going 16-12. The Panthers have their top seven scorers back from last season’s squad.
  2. Wisconsin ended up in a three-way tie atop the Big Ten standings at 14-6 and won 21 of 31 games overall. The Badgers picked up 15 wins in 17 games at Kohl Center, while going 15-13-3 ATS and splitting the O/U 15-15-1. These teams met last season in the season opener, with Wisconsin pushing past EIU by a 65-52 score in the first-ever meeting.
  3. EIU was not good on either side of the 3-point line. Offensively, the Panthers hit just 34.3% from behind the arc, 123rd in the nation, and defensively they were 285th while allowing 34.9 percent on treys.

Eastern Illinois at Wisconsin: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Wisconsin 77, Eastern Illinois 54

Money line (ML)

Wisconsin (-3334) has plenty of experience back from last season’s 21-win team. The Badgers likely feel like they have some unfinished business after last season’s NCAA touranament was wiped out, not that this season has any more certainty. Still, you can’t back a team laying more than 33 times your potential return. AVOID.

Against the spread (ATS)

WISCONSIN -20.5 (-110) has plenty of beef, and that will be the biggest difference in this one. Down low the Badgers figure to be much more physical than the smallish Panthers, who have just one player standing taller than 6-foot-9. Eastern Illinois was also horrific from the charity stripe last season, and, as mentioned, abysmal at hitting threes and defending them. That’s a rough combination.

Over/Under (O/U)

The lean is to the UNDER 134.5 (-106), based mostly on the fact EIU should struggle to score points. Wisconsin isn’t exactly known for its up-tempo style, but the Badgers have always been a little more deliberate. As such, it’s hard to see an Over result, especially early in the season.

The Wisconsin Badgers (2-0) visit the Northwestern Wildcats (4-0) in Evanston, Ill. for a 3:30 p.m. ET kickoff, Saturday. Below, we analyze the Wisconsin-Northwestern college football betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

The Badgers are No. 12 in the Amway Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports and the Wildcats are No. 20.

Wisconsin at Northwestern: Betting odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Thursday at 1 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: Wisconsin -295 (bet $295 to win $100) | Northwestern +235 (bet $100 to win $235)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Wisconsin -7.5 (-110) | Northwestern +7.5 (-110)
  • Over/Under: 43.5 (O: -115 | U: -106)

Wisconsin at Northwestern: Three things to know

  • Wisconsin went into the Big House last week and pasted Michigan 49-11. The Badgers outgained the Wolverines in total yards, 468-219, had 16 more first downs (26-10) and were plus-4 in turnovers.
  • Northwestern handled its business against Purdue, winning 27-20 and covering as a four-point favorite last week. It was a prototypical Wildcats win with the Boilermakers being held to just two rushing yards as a team and only 24:58 of possession time.
  • Wisconsin-Northwestern games are usually defensive slugfests where the total has gone Under in six of the past seven meetings by an average of 8.6 points per game.

Wisconsin at Northwestern: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Northwestern 19, Wisconsin 17

Money line (ML)

Both sides have similar team profiles but Northwestern has a senior under center in QB Peyton Ramsey and Wisconsin has a redshirt freshman running its offense in QB Graham Mertz.

Wisconsin is averaging 47 points per game to start the season; however, it has thus far played inferior defenses compared to Northwestern’s opponents. Wisconsin doesn’t have the talent at running back it is accustomed to, names like Melvin Gordon, Jonathan Taylor and James White.

Northwestern has won three of its last six games against Wisconsin and is 3-1 in its last four home games in the series. This is the best Wildcats team since Pat Fitzgerald took over as head coach in 2006.

I “LEAN” NORTHWESTERN (+235) for a quarter-unit.

Against the spread (ATS)

If we lean toward a Wildcats upset, then we “LIKE” NORTHWESTERN +7.5 (-110) getting a touchdown and a hook. Wisconsin is 1-5 ATS in its last six meetings in Northwestern.

The Badgers have beaten the crap out of the two bad teams/great matchups they’ve faced but the Wildcats are the best Big Ten team not named Ohio State or Wisconsin. Mertz looked great in Wisconsin’s first game but didn’t need to do much in the second game. I’ll take my chances with Ramsey.

HIT NORTHWESTERN +7.5 (-110) for 1 unit.

Over/Under (O/U)

These teams have similar DNAs which line up nicely for an UNDER 43.5 (-106) wager.

Wisconsin’s defense has allowed only one touchdown in its two games this season and ranks top-5 across several different college football rating lists. The Badgers have returned the 17th-most production on defense, according to ESPN. Their defense is legitimate and Northwestern’s offense doesn’t pose much of a threat in this matchup.

The Wildcats’ strength is their defense and they’ll try to grind the game down with the run game. Northwestern has the 13th-highest run play percentage and 17th-highest net time of possession in the country; however, Wisconsin has the fifth-highest percentage of run plays called and the highest net time of possession in the nation.

GIMME UNDER 43.5 (-106) for 1.5 units.

Wisconsin at Michigan odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Saturday’s Wisconsin Badgers at Michigan Wolverines sports betting odds and lines, with college football betting picks, tips and predictions.

The Wisconsin Badgers (1-0 overall, 1-0 Big Ten) head to Ann Arbor to take on the Michigan Wolverines (1-2, 1-2) Saturday for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff. Below, we analyze the Wisconsin-Michigan college football betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Wisconsin is ranked 14th in the Amway Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports.

Wisconsin at Michigan: Betting odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Friday at 3:16 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: Wisconsin -193 (bet $193 to win $100) | Michigan +160 (bet $100 to win $160)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Wisconsin -4.5 (-110) | Michigan +4.5 (-110)
  • Over/Under: 53.5 (O: -115 | U: -106)

Wisconsin at Michigan: Three things to know

  1. Wisconsin has played just one game this season, looking dominant in a 45-7 rout of visiting Illinois Oct. 23. The racked up 430 total yards in the win.
  2. Michigan has been a good home team under head coach Jim Harbaugh as it has won 13 of its last 15 games at Michigan Stadium.
  3. Michigan has one of the worst pass-defenses in college football, allowing 287.3 passing yards per game through three contests.

Wisconsin at Michigan: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Michigan 27, Wisconsin 24

Money line (ML)

Wisconsin (-193) is the money line favorite, but it hasn’t played since Oct. 23 due to a COVID-19 outbreak. MICHIGAN (+160) hasn’t played well this season, but I’m backing the Wolverines since this game is in Ann Arbor. Historically, Michigan has had a lot of success at home against Wisconsin, winning seven of its last eight meetings. Given the value here, take MICHIGAN (-160) to win and avoid a third consecutive loss.

Against the spread (ATS)

If the money line proves to be too risky of a bet, consider taking MICHIGAN (+4.5). While Wisconsin QB Graham Mertz’s status is still in question, it’s hard to bet on the Badgers. Michigan doesn’t inspire a lot of trust either, but it does have an impressive win over Minnesota on its resume. Look for this game to come down to the last few plays and for the Wolverines to stay within a field goal.

Over/Under (O/U)

The total of 58.5 feels about right given the struggles of the defenses. However, with the questionable status of several key Wisconsin offensive players, take the UNDER as both teams will look to run the ball to control the clock.
