How to watch Wisconsin basketball vs UW-River Falls
The Wisconsin men’s basketball team will host UW-River Falls for an exhibition matchup at 7:00 p.m. CT at the Kohl Center on Wednesday night. The team is on the cusp of launching their ninth full season with Greg Gard as the head coach.
In the offseason, the Badgers saw the departure of a handful of significant players. Forward Tyler Wahl (graduation) along with guards Chucky Hepburn (transfer portal), AJ Storr (transfer portal) and Connor Essegian (transfer portal) are no longer a part of the team.
They brought in a trio of significant transfer additions in guard Camren Hunter (Central Arkansas) and forwards John Tonje (Missouri) and Xavier Amos (Northern Illinois). Also worth noting, three-star freshman guard Daniel Freitag (Minneapolis, MN) figures to be a major part of the puzzle in 2024-2025.
Can the Badgers improve upon best conference season in a decade?
The Badger women’s basketball Big Ten schedule was announced Thursday as Wisconsin heads into their third season with head coach Marisa Moseley at the helm.
The team struggled early but rattled off some impressive wins down the stretch, including a victory over 12th ranked Michigan in February. Overall, the team went 11-20, but their 6-12 conference record was their best since the 2010-2011 season.
Now operating without their leading scorer from last year in Julie Pospisilova and moving forward after guard Maty Wilke transferred to the Utah, the Badgers will look to take the next step forward in 2023-2024. Here’s how their conference schedule will look:
In the latest the round of UW Athletic Hall of Fame inductees from 2023, a former Wisconsin WBB player was among those enshrined in Madison.
In the latest the round of UW Athletic Hall of Fame inductees from 2023, a former Wisconsin women’s basketball player was amongst those enshrined in Madison. Beginning her career with Wisconsin in 1997 after growing up in Racine, LaTonya Sims instantly became a star with the Badgers.
Sims earned the 1998 Big Ten Freshman of the Year honors and went on to play 124 career games with the Badgers, which she did consecutively, both a record for most played and consecutive played.
Overall, Sims ranks sixth all-time in points scored (1,857) and fourth all-time in rebounds (882) in the history of Wisconsin women’s basketball.

LaTonya Sims was a smooth, athletic, 6-foot-3 guard at Racine Park High School in 1997 who came to Madison and put together a one-of-a-kind career.

The Big Ten and Big East announced the matchups for the 2023 Gavitt Tipoff Games and the Wisconsin MBB team will participate in the events.
The Big Ten and Big East announced the matchups for the 2023 Gavitt Tipoff Games on Tuesday and the Wisconsin men’s basketball team will participate in the events. In the sixth all-time meeting between the two programs, the Badgers will travel to face Providence on November 14.
To this point, Wisconsin holds a 1-4 record over five games all-time against the Friars, most recently falling to them 63-58 in the 2021 Gavitt Games in November of 2021.
The Badgers will have their entire starting lineup back from the 2022-2023 season as well as their coaching staff, but Providence will be operating under new head coach Kim English this season after Ed Cooley left for Georgetown in March.
In what could be a make-or-break season for Greg Gard and his staff in Madison, they’ll draw a tough non-conference road test early in 2023. Overall, Gard has produced an 8-5 record all-time against the Big East.
Graduate transfer big man Chris Vogt has become a key member of Wisconsin’s rotation. Now, he’s earning more minutes with every passing game.
This year’s Wisconsin Badgers team currently has 9 players averaging more than 10 minutes a game, and 11 players who have seen the floor consistently. Off the bench, those players are Bowman, Neath, Gilmore, Carlson, Vogt, and Jordan Davis. The problem however, is that despite Greg Gard’s deep rotation, he’s not getting a ton of consistent production.
This is a team that’s heavily reliant on Johnny Davis and Brad Davison’s nightly scoring output, and it’s becoming more evident that they’re going to need some additional help. If that’s not going to be a consistent third scoring option, then this team is going to need more from their role players.
One of the players that’s been stepping up as of late is Cincinnati transfer Chris Vogt.
Chris Vogt was brought to Wisconsin to be a big bodied defensive presence, rebound, alter shots, and set good screens – anything more was going to be considered a bonus.
After scoring seven combined points in the first eight games, Vogt is averaging 8.3 points and 5 rebounds over his last three games. It’s also worth noting that he’s seen his three highest minute totals of the season during this three game stretch.
While I don’t think Chris Vogt can be a major contributor in terms of scoring, I do think he can continue to see expanded opportunities, especially if Steven Crowl continues to struggle.
Chris Vogt isn’t the kind of player you go out of your way to manufacture a ton of touches for, but at 260lbs, Vogt can move defenders and take high percentage shots around the rim.
The addition of Chris Vogt in the transfer portal is already paying dividends.

The Badgers are not only the oldest starting lineup in college basketball, they wouldn’t be the youngest in the NBA
In the one-and-done college basketball era, No, 6 Wisconsin has stuck with their formula of getting old and staying old. During last night’s 70-64 loss at home to Maryland, play-by-play announcer Kevin Kugler noted a fascinating stat about Wisconsin’s experience.
With one-and-done’s in college basketball comes young rookies in the NBA. This Badger team is actually older than one of those NBA teams. Wisconsin’s starting lineup, which consists of five seniors, has an average age of 22.6 years. The Chicago Bulls starting lineup? An average age of 21.6 years. That’s right, Wisconsin basketball is significantly older than the NBA’s Chicago Bulls. Maybe the wildest part of it all? The five Badger starters — D’Mitrik Trice, Brad Davison, Aleem Ford, Micah Potter, and Nate Reuvers — could all return to school next year.
A stat that was said on the broadcast by @kevinkugler and is awesome:
Chicago Bulls starting lineup average age: 21.6 years old
Wisconsin #Badgers starting lineup average age: 22.6 years old
Oh, and every senior could come back next year for Wisconsin lol
A new Wisconsin basketball jersey designed by Micah Potter is ready to be released
Alternate uniforms have a kind recent history for Wisconsin basketball. Last year during the tail end of the season, the Badgers went with a throwback home jersey that they did not lose a game in. This season, the players have helped to design an original new look that Wisconsin is planning on debuting soon:
The Badgers 2022 offer train kept rolling today as Wisconsin offered another RB in the class. Wisconsin extended an offer to four-star RB Omarion Hampton from the state of North Carolina per his Twitter account.
247sports ranks Hampton as a four-star recruit and as the number four player in the state of North Carolina in 2022. The Clayton, NC. (Cleveland) native currently holds offers from the likes of Michigan, Duke, and Miami. At 6-foot and with a 215-pound frame, Hampton has a combination of size and speed that makes him a dangerous combo runner and a threat as a special teams returner at the high school level.

With sports still in shutdown mode, sports gambling has also come to a screeching halt. In fact, the only college basketball line listed on BetMGM’s online platform is a future for who is going to take home the 2021 National Championship. Wisconsin is expecting to be in the mix for a Final Four berth next season as the Badgers return 88% of their minutes from this Big Ten Championship winning season. The returning core will be paired with a solid, six-man 2020 recruiting class. UW is primed for success. Vegas certainly agrees.
Wisconsin comes in at +1600 to win the 2021 National Championship, tied for the tenth-best odds. The +1600 number means that a ten dollar wager on the Badgers would yield $160 of profit. UW was not in the top 25 of BetMGM’s odds to win the natty at any point during the 2019-20 season, yet open as a top-10 favorite. It is clear that Vegas sees the potential in this Badger team. Currently, the co-favorites to win it all are Baylor and Gonzaga at +800. The only Big Ten team with better odds than Wisconsin is Iowa, who cash in at +1500.

What are three things Wisconsin needs to do when the Badgers travel to play Purdue in West Lafayette?
Purdue (10-9, 3-5 Big Ten) lost its second consecutive game in a row as they fell to Illinois at home, marking the second home loss by Purdue this season. That may not be good news for Wisconsin (12-7, 5-3) considering the Badgers have struggled to win in Mackey Arena. The Badgers have only won 18 games in West Lafayette in program history with their last win coming in 2014.
In this Badgers Wire feature, we will look at the three keys or questions for Wisconsin as they prepare to play Purdue on Friday.
LAYUP: CAN WISCONSIN BUILD OFF OF THEIR PERFORMANCE FROM THREE?
Wisconsin shot the basketball lights out from three against Nebraska as they finished the game 18-for-34 (52.9 percent) from three. The 18 made three’s set a new team record for most made three’s in a game breaking the previous mark of 17.
It is unfair to expect Wisconsin to shoot the basketball that well again from three especially on the road. But the Badgers will have to shoot it better than they were in the five previous games prior to Nebraska, the Badgers shot a combined 27-for-99 (27.2 percent) from three over that stretch.
During Big Ten play Wisconsin is shooting 34.7 percent (61-for-176) from three, which ranks fourth in the conference. On the flip side for Purdue defensively they are allowing their Big Ten opponents to shoot 31.1 percent (55-for-177) from three.
Purdue is allowing an average of 6.8 made three’s a game and if Wisconsin struggles to consistently generate a post touch against the Boilermakers then the Badgers will need to be ready to knock down there three’s in order to help open up the lane.
