Michigan basketball gets big 2025 four-star commit

Dusty May strikes again! #GoBlue

As Dusty May is set to host his first pro day and media day on Friday, in advance of all of those happenings, he got some huge news.

Michigan basketball is awaiting the Nov. 9 decision of five-star combo guard Trey McKenney from Flint (Mich.) St. Mary’s, but the Wolverines managed to get the first commit in 2025 before McKenney has made his decision.

Hailing from Napa (Calif.) Prolific Prep, 2025 small forward Winters Grady has a litany of impressive offers, ranging from Oregon, Oklahoma, USC, Iowa, Arizona State, Washington, Xavier, and more. But he shut down his recruitment on Friday, announcing that he’s committing to May and the Michigan Wolverines.

Grady is a four-star rated by the 247Sports Composite as the No. 83 player in the country, regardless of position.

Here is how he ranks according to the recruiting services:

* Ovr Pos St
247Sports Composite 4 83 15 8
On3 Industry Ranking 4 64 13 7
247Sports 4 74 15 7
On3 4 56 14 7
ESPN 4 28 1
Rivals 4 41 14

The scouting report from 247Sports’ Adam Finklestein:

Grady is a skilled, shot-making wing with good positional size and strength. He posted 19 points per game during the recent 3SSB season on 53/42/87 shooting splits, finishing in the league’s top ten in both scoring and efficiency (1.06 points per possession according to Synergy). What’s counterintuitive about those ultra-efficient numbers, is that Grady thrives in the mid-range area. He loves to score over top of contesting defenders from about 12-18 feet with some lift into a high release. He can create space off the dribble for those shots, go into the mid-post, or occasionally run off screens, but tends to play a little upright and doesn’t put a ton of pressure on the rim.

His release point changes a little bit from behind the arc, and becomes more of a lower set-shot with less lift, but he’s still a very efficient marksmen from downtown. He’s a hugely valuable floor-spacer when surrounded with more dynamic playmakers and also capable of making threes off the dribble.

In addition to his positional size and strength, Grady is ultra-competitive with a clear edge to him. He’s not the most naturally quick, bouncy, long, or flexible in his hips, but he’s a worker who competes on both ends of the floor. He’s going to be more versatile up the line-up than down, and is a solid wing rebounder. He’s also shown he’s capable of being consistently productive and impacting winning in a variety of roles, ranging from the offensive focal point we saw in the grassroots season to the valuable secondary piece we saw in high school.

Grady is the first pledge of the 2025 class. With the commit, Michigan goes from unranked in the 247Sports team rankings to usurping rival MSU with the No. 57 ranking overall.

USC basketball is a finalist for four-star small forward

Eric Musselman tries to land a California-based recruit with Oregon roots.

Winters Grady, a four-star small forward, was offered last month by the USC basketball program and Eric Musselman. Now Grady has the Trojans as a finalist for his choice of top schools.

The nine schools Grady has announced are USC, Oregon, Michigan, Oklahoma, Creighton, Iowa, New Mexico, Arizona State, and Colorado.

Grady is a 6-foot-7, 200-pound small forward who plays his high school basketball at Prolific Prep, a school in Napa, California, but originally, he’s from Lake Oswego, Oregon.

According to the 247Sports Composite Player Rankings, the world of recruiting sees Grady as the No. 81 overall recruit in the 2025 recruiting class. The four-star also rates as the No. 13 small forward nationally and the No. 6 player in the state of California. Eric Musselman has a national recruiting strategy at USC, but he does need to win his share of West Coast and California recruitments as well.

Grady has official visits remaining with the following schools listed below.

  • New Mexico – Aug. 22
  • Michigan – Aug. 29
  • Iowa – Sep. 7
  • Colorado – Sep. 11
  • Oklahoma – Sep. 21

OU Men’s Basketball included in top 9 for four-star forward

The Oklahoma Sooners were included in the top 9 schools for 2025 small forward out of Oregon.

The Oklahoma Sooners men’s basketball team have had a strong offseason on the recruiting trail. In addition to their transfer portal additions, [autotag]Porter Moser[/autotag] has picked up commitments from 2025 top-100 small forward [autotag]Alec Blair[/autotag] and 2024 top-100 point guard [autotag]Jeremiah Fears[/autotag]. The Sooners are in pursuit of another top-100 prospect, this time 2025 four-star small forward [autotag]Winters Grady[/autotag].

Grady is the No. 66 player in the On3 Industry Ranking and the No. 15 small forward in the 2025 recruiting class. The Lake Oswego, Oregon native included the Oklahoma Sooners in his top nine along with Oregon, New Mexico, Michigan, Arizona State, Colorado, Creighton, Iowa and USC.

“I really like Coach (Porter) Moser. My dad and I both really like him,” Winters told On3’s Joe Tipton. “He’s a basketball mind. We sat on our last Zoom call for about 30 minutes after it ended just talking basketball. That was a great thing to see because I’m a basketball junkie too. I just love watching it and playing it, it’s kind of my whole life. So seeing someone else like that, knowing they are as invested as I am and do things like I do, is good to see.

“Coach Moser sees me as a three-level scorer and that my game is really translatable to college and beyond. He thinks I fit well in their freestyle type of system.”

The Oklahoma Sooners are still looking for their first tournament berth in the Porter Moser era, but he’s proven to be successful at previous stops. As he continues to build the roster, adding top-100 players like Grady will give him a better shot to take Oklahoma deep into the NCAA tournament.

4-star SF Winters Grady schedules official visit with Ducks

Winters Grady, a 4-star small forward in the class of 2025, has scheduled an official visit with the Oregon Ducks men’s basketball team.

Dana Altman and the Oregon Ducks men’s basketball team keep gaining momentum on the recruiting trail. After already securing a commitment from 4-star shooting guard Jamari Phillips and locking down multiple recruiting visits this month, the Ducks have added another blue-chip prospect to their visitor list: Winters Grady.

Grady is a 4-star small forward, ranked as the No. 13 SF in the class of 2025, standing tall at six feet six inches. His height makes him a dangerous shooter, but his leaner frame at 185 pounds gives him plenty of mobility on the wing as well.

On Wednesday, Grady made some moves in his recruiting process, scheduling official visits with the Oregon Ducks and the Oklahoma Sooners according to Joe Tipton of On3Sports. Grady only received an offer from Oregon two weeks ago, so it seems he is excited by the prospect of being a Duck. He also holds offers from Creighton, Michigan, and others.

Grady plays his high school basketball at Prolific Prep, a school in Napa, California, but originally, he’s from Lake Oswego, Oregon, a suburb of Portland. Coming to Eugene for college would certainly be a homecoming for him, which could make Oregon more enticing.

Granted, it’s early in the recruiting cycle, but so far, the Ducks have zero commitments from the class of 2025, and after a sub-par 2024 recruiting class (made worse by the decommitment of Vyctorious Miller) Oregon may need some big swings in 2025. If the Ducks can impress Grady on his official visit, it could go a long way.
