The Buccaneers should seriously consider re-signing Jameis Winston in 2021

See why the Tampa Bay Buccaneers might want to roll the dice on Jameis Winston again in next year’s free agency.

The Tom Brady era is officially underway in Tampa as the Buccaneers kicked off training camp this week with the G.O.A.T. the new man under center.

Gone is former number one overall pick Jameis Winston, who landed a one-year deal with the New Orleans Saints to backup Drew Brees for a season. Winston, 26, still has plenty of good years ahead of him. Plus, he won’t turn 27 until next January, meaning he could be a highly sought after free agent on the open market next offseason.

Which is why the Buccaneers should seriously consider re-signing him to their roster. As crazy as it sounds, let’s exam the benefits for both parties.

For the Buccaneers, they’ll be getting a quarterback who had a year of tutelage sitting behind one of the best quarterback’s ever in Brees. And, with Brady signed through 2021, Winston could benefit by sitting for another year and learning from the Golden Boy. Two years learning behind two of the game’s greatest quarterbacks ever could pay huge dividends for Winston down the road.

Also, the Buccaneers have a young roster still with guys like Mike Evans and Chris Godwin entering their prime. They don’t want to waste good seasons from those two by rebuilding with a new quarterback post-Brady. Winston already knows this Arians offense, and last season Evans and Godwin both had over 1,100 yards with Winston throwing to them. He can watch Brady running things for a year in 2021, and then jump right in as starter in 2022.

Oh yeah, Brady, Winston and Brees are also part of the exclusive 5,000-yard club.

Winston is loved by his former Bucs teammates, so the locker room chemistry would be there instantly. Plus, for all his off-the-field issues, Winston has been a fixture in and around the Tampa community with his charity work.

It sounds like a crazy idea now, but so did the idea of Tom Brady becoming a Buccaneer.

See why Tom Brady liked this Jameis Winston Instagram post

New Bucs QB Tom Brady liked a picture Jameis Winston recently posted on Instagram. See why.

Tom Brady is the new man in charge of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and their offense, which finished third overall in the league last season despite the up-and-down performance of former quarterback Jameis Winston.

Winston threw for a league-best 5,109 yards to go along with 33 touchdowns and 30 interceptions, leading the Bucs to a 7-9 record. Tampa Bay opted to let Winston walk in free agency after they were able to land the six-time Super Bowl champion Brady.

Jameis eventually found a home in New Orleans with the Saints, where he will sit for a year and learn from one of the game’s greatest quarterbacks in Drew Brees.

And even though Brady replaced Winston, he still has love and respect for the former Heisman Trophy winner not just as a player, but as a father, too.

Winston posted this touching picture and caption on Instagram today, with Brady liking the photo.

Plus, Uncle Mike commented on the post, too!

Jameis Winston in a Saints helmet takes some getting used to

Take a look at new Saints quarterback Jameis Winston wearing his new team’s helmet while working out on the field.

Buccaneers fans got a treat the other week when they got their first look of quarterback Tom Brady wearing a Tampa Bay helmet while hitting the field with teammates for an informal workout.

But if you thought that was a strange sight, wait until you see Jameis Winston wearing a Saints helmet. The former Bucs quarterback, who landed in New Orleans this offseason, has been putting in lots of time on the field this offseason, looking to improve his game even if he is just taking a backup role with the Saints (for now).

Take a look at some screenshots from Winston’s Instagram story showing him in his new helmet, while also incorporating a little baseball and juggling into his workout routine.

Jameis Winston hands out meals to the Tampa community

Saints quarterback Jameis Winston was out and about in Tampa yesterday handing out meals to help those during the coronavirus crisis.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers may have moved on from quarterback Jameis Winston, but the former number one overall pick isn’t moving on from Tampa.

Winston saw his five-year run with the Bucs come to an end this offseason after they signed six-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady in free agency. Winston recently landed in New Orleans, agreeing to a one-year deal to sit and learn behind veteran Drew Brees.

But despite finding a new team in a new city, Winston still intends to make Tampa his home, and was out and about in the community yesterday handing out meals to help those in need during the coronavirus crisis.

Take a look.

Jameis Winston and Saints reach one-year deal

Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston has agreed to a one-year deal with the New Orleans Saints.

Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston has finally found a new home, as he and the New Orleans Saints came to terms on a one-year deal that will have Winston join a quarterback group that includes Drew Brees and Taysom Hill.

It was reported over the weekend that Winston and the Saints were working on a deal, but today the news became official.

Winston was displaced in Tampa Bay this offseason after Tom Brady signed with the Buccaneers. The former number one overall pick had been on the market for over a month, and now finds himself in a situation where he gets to learn behind one of the best quarterbacks ever in Brees. Plus, he’ll get a chance to take on the new-look Bucs twice next year. Well, his Saints will at least.

I’m sure news of the official signing has Saints defensive end Cameron Jordan jumping for joy right about now.
