Winnipeg Blue Bombers at Toronto Argonauts odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s Winnipeg Blue Bombers at Toronto Argonauts matchup, with CFL odds, lines, picks, predictions and best bets.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers (2-0) visit the Toronto Argonauts (1-1) in the first of two games on the CFL’s Week 3 Saturday schedule. Kickoff at BMO Field will be at 4 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Blue Bombers vs. Argonauts odds and lines and make our best CFL picks, predictions and bets.

This is the second half of a home-and-home between the cross-division rivals. Winnipeg beat Toronto 20-7 on its home field last week as QB Zach Collaros went 32-for-40 for 292 yards and 2 touchdowns against 1 interception.

Toronto makes a change at starting quarterback coming into this one. QB McLeod Bethel-Thompson was replaced by backup Nick Arbuckle midway through last week’s game and Arbuckle will draw the Week 3 start in the Argos’ 2021 home opener. He went 10-for-19 for 96 yards and 1 INT after entering the Week 2 matchup in the third quarter.

Blue Bombers at Argonauts odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Blue Bombers 24, Argonauts 13

Money line

The BLUE BOMBERS (-190) can be backed as moderate road favorites. The long-reigning 2019 Grey Cup champions have picked up where they left off with back-to-back season-opening wins over the Argos and Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

Arbuckle did little last week to steal the starting job away from Bethel-Thompson and it’s unlikely he finds his groove and ups his play in the immediate rematch.

Against the spread

Back the BLUE BOMBERS -3.5 (-110) to win by 4 or more points for a proper return on investment.

After bouncing around the league in 2019, including a brief stop in Toronto, Collaros found his groove with the Bombers and helped lead them to the Grey Cup victory. He has been excellent through two weeks with a 73.5% completion rate for 509 yards and 4 TD against 1 INT.

Over/Under

Bet UNDER 45.5 (-120) with Toronto making an uninspired QB change and these teams falling well shy of this number in Winnipeg’s 13-point victory last week.

Bombers RB Andrew Harris (calf) remained limited in practice through the week and the offense won’t be in top form until the MVP of the 2019 Grey Cup is back to full health.

Toronto Argonauts at Winnipeg Blue Bombers odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Friday’s Toronto Argonauts at Winnipeg Blue Bombers matchup, with CFL odds, lines, picks, predictions and best bets.

The Toronto Argonauts (1-0) visit the long-reigning Grey Cup champion Winnipeg Blue Bombers (1-0) Friday for an 8:30 p.m. ET kickoff at IG Field. Below, we look at the Argonauts at Blue Bombers odds and lines and make our best CFL picks, predictions and bets.

The Argonauts started the 2021 season with a 23-20 road upset of the Calgary Stampeders in Week 1. Argos QB McLeod Bethel-Thompson completed 26 of 37 passes for 354 yards and 2 touchdowns without an interception but Toronto combined for just 56 total rushing yards.

The Blue Bombers crushed the Hamilton Tiger-Cats 19-6 Aug. 5 in a 2019 Grey Cup rematch. QB Zach Collaros went 18-for-28 through the air for 217 yards and 2 touchdowns. RB Brady Oliveira ran for 126 yards on 22 carries with RB Andrew Harris sidelined by injury. Harris (calf) remains on the shelf for Week 2.

Argonauts at Blue Bombers odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Blue Bombers 24, Argonauts 21

Money line

The Blue Bombers (-300) should win with the benefit of home-field advantage, but we should PASS on the chalk-filled money line. A $10 bet would return a profit of just $3.33 and it’s a losing long-term strategy to bet such heavy favorites.

The Argos already pulled off a road upset last week and the Week 2 line should be much closer based on what we’ve seen from both teams thus far.

Against the spread

Hammer ARGONAUTS +6.5 (-115) as the best bet in this Friday night game. Far too much respect is being given to the reigning champs and not enough to a vastly improved Toronto side.

The lingering absence of Harris for Winnipeg is also being understated by this line. While Oliveira gashed the Ti-Cats on the ground last week, the Argos held the Stamps to a respectable 101 rushing yards in Week 1.

Over/Under

Add the UNDER 47.5 (-120) as a nice side play to the Argos’ spread.

Scoring is down across the CFL early in the 2021 season after a nearly two-year pause due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Thursday’s 15-9 BC Lions win over the Calgary Stampeders shows it could be more than a one-week trend.

2021 Grey Cup odds, picks and prediction: Long-reigning Blue Bombers still among favorites

Analyzing the odds to win the 2021 Grey Cup, with CFL futures picks and predictions among the favorites and long shots.

The Canadian Football League returns Thursday, Aug. 5, after more than a 600-day hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A lot has changed around the CFL to set up what could be one of its most exciting and unpredictable seasons, even in a league built on upsets. Below, we look at the 2021 Grey Cup odds, and make our best CFL picks, predictions and bets.

The Grey Cup will be played Sunday, Dec. 12, at Tim Hortons Field in Hamilton, ON. The title game will come after a slightly condensed 16-week regular season. There were no preseason games played.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers enter the 2021 campaign as the long-reigning 2019 Grey Cup champions. They topped the Hamilton Tiger-Cats 33-12 Nov. 24, 2019, to win their first Canadian championship since 1990.

2021 Grey Cup odds, picks and best bets

Odds via Tipico Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Thursday, Aug. 5, at 10 a.m. ET.

Favorite: Hamilton Tiger-Cats (+300)

The Tiger-Cats cruised to a 15-3 record to finish the 2019 campaign as East Division champs before their Grey Cup loss to the Bombers. They had to play the title game without No. 1 QB Jeremiah Masoli (knee) and backup Dane Evans struggled in his place.

Hamilton had both the top offense and defense in 2019 and outscored the opposition 551-344 over the regular season. It went 9-0 at home and 7-1 against soft East Division competition. The division improved over nearly two years, but the Ti-Cats remain the team to beat with Masoli back at the helm of the offense.

Contender: Montreal Alouettes (+900)

Speaking of the East Division improving, look no further than the Alouettes, who finished second in 2019.

Though they were outscored 485-479 on the season, they went 5-3 against the division. QB Vernon Adams Jr. passed for 3,942 yards and 24 touchdowns against 13 interceptions in his first full season under center, and he added another 394 yards and 12 TDs on the ground. His supporting cast was improved and RB William Stanback is still in tow to help shoulder the load.

Montreal also has the Week 1 bye and will get an early look at the rest of the league with a little more prep time.

Long shot: Edmonton Elks (+1200)

The changes in Edmonton over the extended offseason included a name change and rebranding. QB Trevor Harris remains in charge of the offense and will provide the required stability while being able to make a run at the league’s Most Outstanding Player award.

Things didn’t go quite according to plan in Harris’ first season in Edmonton after signing a lucrative free-agent deal. The team went 8-10 and finished fourth in the West Division but outscored the rest of the league 406-400. The young defense will be well-equipped to handle the lengthy layoff.

Hamilton Tiger-Cats at Winnipeg Blue Bombers odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Thursday’s Hamilton Tiger-Cats at Winnipeg Blue Bombers matchup, with CFL odds, lines, picks, predictions and best bets.

The 2021 CFL season begins with a rematch of the 2019 Grey Cup between the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Winnipeg Blue Bombers. The long-reigning CFL champions serve as hosts at IG Field for the 8:30 p.m. ET kickoff. Below, we look at the Tiger-Cats at Blue Bombers odds and lines and make our best CFL picks, predictions and bets.

The 2020 CFL season was wiped out by the COVID-19 pandemic and it has been over 600 days since these teams last squared off. The Blue Bombers are still led by QB Zach Collaros while QB Jeremiah Masoli will be under center for the Ti-Cats after winning the starting job over Dane Evans.

Blue Bombers RB Andrew Harris, the MVP of the 2019 Grey Cup, won’t play Thursday due to a calf injury. He’ll be the most notable absence among many for both teams after the long layoff.

Tiger-Cats at Blue Bombers odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Tiger-Cats 27, Blue Bombers 22

Money line

The Tiger-Cats were East Division champs in 2019 but had to play the Grey Cup with Evans at the helm of the offense in place of an injured Masoli. The Sanger, Texas native went 16-for-27 for 203 yards and 1 touchdown against 2 interceptions in the biggest game of his pro football career.

Without Harris, who rushed for 134 yards and a touchdown in the Grey Cup, look for Masoli to lead the Ti-Cats to a relatively easy victory as the best player on the field. He passed for 1,576 yards and 9 touchdowns while rushing for 4 more across six games in 2019 before being shut down.

Back the visiting TIGER-CATS (-190) to get some revenge in the 2021 season opener, even in front of an amped-up full-capacity crowd.

Against the spread

Back the TIGER-CATS -3.5 (-110) to win by at least 4 points as a better value play.

They outscored the rest of the CFL 551-344 in 2019 while the Bombers scored 508 points against 409 allowed in a third-place finish in the West Division.

Over/Under

Lean slightly to the UNDER 50.5 (+100).

Both offenses should be slower moving and more disjointed than the defense after the missed season. Additionally, the 2019 Grey Cup played to a total of just 45 points and the top offensive player from that game won’t be on the field.
