Chiefs HC Andy Reid comments on no longer being undefeated this season: ‘I go forward’

Kansas City #Chiefs head coach Andy Reid comments on no longer being undefeated this season: ‘I go forward’ | @EdEastonJr

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid spoke to reporters on Monday for his weekly Zoom press conference. He addressed the team’s recent loss to the Buffalo Bills, which ended its chances at an undefeated record.

“I go forward and try to exhaust what team we’re playing, and I present that to the players that way and expect them to do the same. So I don’t really hear a lot of that talk from them or think they care too much about that, other than exhausting yourself the best you can to prepare yourself for that team there that week.” Reid said. “Then you get to a point where you say, Listen, I’ve done everything I possibly can. Here’s a product. And you go play.”

The Chiefs have maintained the mindset that the goal is another Super Bowl, not perfection, as they prepare for this Sunday’s game against the Carolina Panthers. Kansas City holds a half-game lead over the Bills for the top spot in the AFC, with Buffalo on a bye in Week 12.

Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes reacts to first loss of the season: ‘You can use it as fuel’

The Kansas City Chiefs are no longer undefeated, but that wasn’t the goal, says quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who addresses reporters during Sunday’s postgame press conference.

“You can use it as fuel. I mean, like I said, it’s a good football team, so nothing to hang your head out head on losing to them, but we feel like we can play better,” said Mahomes. “So we’ll get back to work and try to use this as a spark so that we can be a better football team in the end. The undefeated thing was cool, but that’s not our ultimate goal. So we’ll keep building towards that.”

Mahomes began the game with an interception but settled down to throw three consecutive touchdown passes. He threw his second on fourth down of the Chief’s last drive as he faced constant defensive coverage downfield. The loss was crushing but not nearly as bad as their last defeat on Christmas the previous season, according to the reigning Super Bowl MVP.

“No, not in a sense,” said Mahomes. “I mean, you hope you have the same result to end it, I’ll say that, but at the end of the day, that’s a really good football team. It’s gonna take your best football to beat great football teams. And we didn’t play our best football today, and they went out there and beat us. That’s how it rolls in the NFL, so I give them all the respect. That’s gonna be a good football team that we’ll probably see again.”

The Bills are only a half-game behind the Chiefs for the top seed in the AFC, adding more fuel to their reasons to finish the year strong and hold on to the coveted first-round bye in the postseason.

Chiefs HC Andy Reid comments on the team’s winning mindset: ‘The guys like each other’

The Kansas City Chiefs defeated San Francisco, 28-18, last Sunday in a rematch of Super Bowl LVIII, the tenth regular-season rematch of the previous year’s Super Bowl.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid addressed reporters earlier in the week about his belief in what has made his team resilient and successful.

“I think it starts with your locker room, your coaches, and just how the guys like each other (and) like playing together, and then that whole trust thing that they develop with each other, I think is important,” said Reid. “Everything’s not going to be roses when you’re playing. You’re going to have ups and downs in games. Very few teams go and win every game during a season, so you literally take it game by game and make sure you’re taking care of business this week. I think the locker room has a big part of that (and) the coaches added too, with everything is a big part of that.”

Kansas City is the last remaining undefeated team in the NFL and the seventh reigning Super Bowl champion to begin the following season 6-0. They are the first since 2000, joining the 2019, 2015, and 2004 New England Patriots, 2011 Green Bay Packers, 2007 Indianapolis Colts, and 2000 St. Louis Rams.

Chiefs have won four of their last five matchups vs. 49ers

Recent history will be on the #Chiefs’ side on Sunday when Kansas City faces the San Francisco #49ers for a Super Bowl LVIII rematch in Week 7

Recent history is on the Kansas City Chiefs’ side ahead of their Week 7 matchup against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.

After defeating San Francisco in Super Bowl LVIII earlier this year, Kansas City has won four of its last five matchups against the 49ers.

The Chiefs hold a 5-0 record heading into this week’s championship rematch, while San Francisco is 3-3 after the first six weeks of their 2024 campaign.

While Kansas City has looked the part of a team that will make a push for another Super Bowl appearance this season, the 49ers seem to have regressed since their championship appearance in February.

Though Sunday’s Super Bowl LVIII rematch isn’t likely to be a cakewalk for either team, the Chiefs have momentum on their side after taking a much-needed bye in Week 6.

Expect Patrick Mahomes and the rest of Kansas City’s stars to do their best to keep the Chiefs’ undefeated record intact against San Francisco this weekend.

Broncos’ 5-game winning streak is their longest since Super Bowl run

For the first time since their Super Bowl season in 2015, the Broncos have won five games in a row. Can they keep the streak going?

The Denver Broncos are now 6-5 after winning five straight games and getting back into the playoff mix following a disastrous 1-5 start.

Denver won games against the Green Bay Packers (19-17), Kansas City Chiefs (24-9), Buffalo Bills (24-22), Minnesota Vikings (21-20) and Cleveland Browns (29-12) over the last six weeks (the Broncos had a bye in Week 9).

This five-game run marks the team’s longest single-season winning streak since 2015, the year Denver won Super Bowl 50. That season, Peyton Manning won seven straight games from Sept. 13 to Nov. 1.

After Peyton Manning suffered an injury in Week 9 that season, Brock Osweiler stepped in and went 5-3 as a starter to help the Broncos finish as the AFC’s No. 1 seed with a 12-4 record.

Here’s a look at the team’s longest single-season winning streaks dating back to Tim Tebow’s six-game winning streak in 2011.

Year Games
2012 11
2015 7
2013 6
2011 6
2023 5

With a victory over the Houston Texans on Sunday, the Broncos would match their six-game runs from 2011 and 2013. Denver needs two more wins to match the 2015 streak. The Broncos would need to win out this season to match 2012’s 11-game winning streak.

First things first, though: Denver will focus on Houston this week.

Can 49ers break record for longest win streak in franchise history?

The 2022-23 #49ers now have the 2nd-longest win streak in franchise history. Can they set the record?

With their Week 2 win over the Rams the 49ers pushed their regular season winning streak to 12 games dating back to last season.

The 2022-23 49ers now stand alone with the second-longest win streak in franchise history. Their 12 consecutive victories are three shy of the franchise record of 15 games which the club won between the 1989 and 1990 campaigns.

It seems inconceivable that any 49ers team would match a feat of one of the greatest teams from their storied past, but a quick look at the schedule shows a definite possibility that San Francisco sneaks past that all-time win streak mark.

Let’s look at their next handful of games and whether they could really get to 16 wins in a row:

Ranking the longest active home winning streaks in college football

Ranking the longest active home winning streaks in college football!

The thing that separates college football from any other sport in America is the intensity of the fan base and the electricity of the environment. There is nothing quite like attending an SEC prime-time game under the lights, you can quite literally feel the crowd screaming for big third-down stops in the fourth quarter. It is pandemonium. Which is why defending your home turf is essential if you want to achieve any sort of success.

The record for most consecutive home wins is currently held by the Miami Hurricanes with 58 spanning from 1985 to 1994. They broke the record of 57 which was previously set by Alabama between the years of 1963-1982.

Clemson had been closing in on the record with 40 wins from 2016 to 2022, but South Carolina upset them 31-30 in Memorial Stadium to snap the streak.

Who now have the five longest active streaks?

Gilgeous-Alexander sets new career-high in 126-108 win over Suns

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 32 points and five other Thunder players were in double-digits as Oklahoma City dominated the Suns, 126-108.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was a man on a mission Friday night.

Gilgeous-Alexander scored a career-high 32 points in Oklahoma City’s blowout win, 126-108 over the Phoenix Suns.

The Thunder have now won 8 of their last 11 games, including three in a row.

In addition to Gilgeous-Alexander’s game-high, Oklahoma City had fairly even scoring up and down their lineup. Dennis Schroder came off the bench to score 24, while Danilo Gallinari had 22. Chris Paul, Steven Adams, and Nerlens Noel were all in double-digits as well with 13, 10, and 10, respectively.

Even that pesky third quarter that Oklahoma City has struggled with this season didn’t provide too many problems as the Thunder scored 44 points in the third quarter alone.

Deandre Ayton did not play for the Suns on Friday.

He suffered a sprained right ankle earlier in the week against the Clippers. That was his only game back after serving a 25-game suspension for testing positive for a diuretic.

With the win, the Thunder move back to .500 on the season at 14-14. Oklahoma City is 10-5 inside Chesapeake Energy Arena. OKC is back in action on Sunday when they host the Clippers.

The game will be the first time that Paul George was returned to Oklahoma City is asking for a trade to Los Angeles in the offseason.

Vols basketball skin Mocs to extend winning streak

Vols basketball skin Mocs to extend winning streak.

KNOXVILLE — The Tennessee Volunteers men’s basketball team continues to roll along, handling the Chattanooga Mocs at home, 58-46.

The two teams traded leads during the opening three minutes of the game, after which the Vols never trailed again. Tennessee’s largest lead of 16 came at the 5:35 mark of the second half, and UT coasted from there to finish with the final margin.

Lamonte Turner paced the Volunteers with 16 points and 12 assists, as well as three rebounds and a steal. John Fulkerson chipped in 14 points and four rebounds of his own, while Jordan Bowden scored 13 points and kept the window clean with 12 boards. Josiah-Jordan James also grabbed 11 boards to go along with 4 points to round out the Vols in double-digits.

Tennessee shot a lethargic 37 percent from the field, including 28 percent from behind the arc on 18 attempts. Their 10 turnovers was a modest sum, while the Vols’ seven blocks and 43 total rebounds show that they dominated the paint. It was not UT’s best performance, but it was good enough tonight against a lesser opponent.

The victory extends the Volunteers’ Division I-leading home-court winning streak at Thompson-Boling Arena, now sitting at 30 straight games. Much less, the Vols also extended their season-opening winning streak to five games.

The Vols next play on Friday, November 29, against the Florida State Seminoles. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET and can be watched on the CBS Sports Network.
