How it happened: A big first half helps Oregon steamroll the Huskies, 84-56

The Oregon Ducks have now won 6th straight after an impressive 84-56 blowout over Washington.

It would have been a bit understandable if Oregon had a little letdown after that historic weekend in Los Angeles. But instead, the Ducks proved those wins over UCLA and USC were not a fluke as they humiliated Washington for 40 straight minutes.

Oregon played nearly a perfect half in the first 20 minutes of action, led 48-13 at halftime and cruised from there to hammer the Huskies 84-56 inside Matthew Knight Arena.

The win is the Ducks’ sixth straight as they improve to 12-6 overall and 5-2 in Pac-12 play. The last four wins have shown Oregon is playing as well as anyone in the country and the Ducks should wake up Monday morning as a ranked team.

Will Richardson named Pac-12 Player of the Week for second time in January

Will Richardson has been named the Pac-12 Player of the Week for the second time in January, this time after a career-high 28 points vs. USC.

It may have been a slow start to the season for Will Richardson and the Oregon Ducks, but they are certainly getting things going in the right direction when they need to.

After a 9-6 start to what was initially thought of as a promising year, Richardson’s stellar play over the past couple of weeks has spurred Oregon to a five-game winning streak, which included consecutive wins over AP top-five teams in No. 3 UCLA and No. 5 USC.

With such stellar play, Richardson has been named the Pac-12 Player of the Week yet again. Richardson was given the honor earlier this month, on January 3rd after notching a career-high in points vs. Utah. Richardson is now coming off of another career-high, this time putting up 28 points against USC.

Current predictions have the Ducks making it into the tournament, and if they can keep this impressive role going, their seed will surely improve. While Richardson is getting the awards, the play of Jacob Young, N’Faly Dante, and Eric Williams has also helped the Ducks a tremendous amount.

How it happened: Oregon completes the massive road sweep with a 79-69 upset win over No. 5 USC

The Ducks made history on Saturday, completing a road-sweep of two top-5 teams with a win over USC. Here’s how the upset happened:

No one saw this coming. It’s doubtful even the Ducks themselves saw this coming.

Oregon just did something no other Pac-12 team has done as the Ducks went down to Los Angeles and completed a road sweep over two Top 5 teams.

After stunning No. 3 UCLA 84-81 in overtime, the Ducks avoided the letdown and took it to No. 5 USC from the opening tip and came out on top 79-69.

Point guard Will Richardson showed why he has the capability of being the best point guard in the conference with a career-high 28 points. He shot 9-of-15 from the field, including 5-of-8 from three-point land.

But he had help.

N’Faly Dante played Isaiah Mobley even on both ends of the floor with 12 points, seven rebounds and two blocks. De’Vion Harmon poured in 16 to contribute to the winning effort.

Now at 11-6 and 4-3 in conference, the Ducks suddenly look like a sure NCAA tournament team. Just two weeks ago, making the NIT was in question. But everything has changed with two huge wins in Los Angeles.

Dana Altman earns 700th career win in style

Only 23 coaches in college basketball can say they have 700 career wins. Dana Altman is now part of that list.

It probably wasn’t how Oregon Ducks men’s basketball coach Dana Altman envisioned his 700th career win, but he’ll take it.

In a near-empty Pauley Pavilion, Oregon upset No. 3 UCLA 84-81 in overtime. The win was also his 290th victory as the Duck head coach in a career that began in 1989 at Marshall.

Beyond the milestone win for Altman, it was a much-needed victory for the Ducks, who have struggled early in the season. But they have finally put everything together and are the team everyone thought it would be when the year begin.

At 10-6 and 3-2 in conference, Oregon has that signature win that will make the NCAA tournament committee sit up and take notice. Fans or no fans, winning at Pauley against the No. 3 Bruins is no joke.

Jacob Young scored 19 of his 23 points after halftime and Will Richardson made several plays down the stretch to seal the deal. But it was the Ducks’ defense, an Altman staple, that was the difference as they denied the Bruins a good look at the buzzer to possibly force a second overtime period.

Now the Ducks will try to make it a road sweep as they will go for a second straight upset in Los Angeles. Oregon faces No. 5 USC Saturday for a scheduled 8 p.m. tip on Fox Sports 1.

How it happened: Oregon Ducks pick up thrilling 84-81 OT win over No. 3 UCLA

What a way to grab win No. 700 for Dana Altman. The Ducks get their biggest win of the season, 84-81 in OT over No. 3 UCLA.

What a way for Dana Altman to get his 700th career victory, huh?

After a tough first half where it looked like the Oregon Ducks were going to try and find a way to lose this game, they utilized a strong start to the second half and built a small lead over the No. 3 UCLA Bruins, eventually upsetting their Pac-12 foe in overtime, 84-81.

The Ducks had a good chance to win this game in regulation, up 6 points with less than a minute to go. However, a pair of turnovers in the final 30 seconds allowed UCLA to tie the game and for overtime.

Luckily for Oregon, some stellar guard play from Jacob Young and Will Richardson sealed the deal in overtime, and they got the monumental victory for the season.

Here is how things went down:

After a slow and at times frustrating start to the Oregon Ducks 2021 basketball season, things are starting to look like they’re clicking into gear.

For the Ducks’ leader, Will Richardson, that certainly is the case.

On Monday, Richardson was named the Pac-12 Player of the week, just a couple of days after scoring a career-high 26 points in the win over the Utah Utes on Saturday night.

Richardson, who was a preseason all-conference first-team selection, hit 5-of-6 three-pointers against the Utes and scored 23 of his 26 points in the second half.

Richardson is now averaging 13.6 points per game this season and has scored in the 20s twice this year, both of which were wins for the Ducks.

This is the first weekly honor of Richardson’s career, and the first by a Ducks player since Chris Duarte set the UO school record with his fourth player of the week selection on Mar. 8, 2021.

Jaguars final Week 17 injury report: TE James O’Shaughnessy ruled OUT vs. Patriots

The Jags had two players listed on their final injury report for this week and one of them, James O’Shaughnessy, was ruled OUT.

The Jacksonville Jaguars only had two players surface on their final injury report (due to several being on the Reserve/COVID-19 list) for Week 17’s game against the New England Patriots in linebacker Dakota Allen (shoulder) and tight end James O’Shaughnessy (hip). The former was ruled questionable while the latter was ruled OUT.

Both players exited last Sunday’s game against the New York Jets with their respective injuries and Allen was ruled questionable to return. Meanwhile, O’Shaughnessy’s injury seems to have occurred on a first-down conversion that the veteran caught during the offense’s last drive. He was visibly in pain after the catch and was grabbing his hip. The injury forced the Jags to use their last timeout, and as a result of it occurring so late, it wasn’t reported by the team.

With O’Shaughnessy ruled out, the Jags have two tight ends currently on the active roster in Kahale Warring and Luke Farrell. They also have Matt Sokol on the practice squad if needed.

As for the depth at linebacker, the Jags should be fine there if Allen can’t play because they had Myles Jack and Damien Wilson come off the Reserve/COVID-19 list today.

As for the Patriots, they ruled eight players questionable and one out. Among the notable players ruled out were cornerback J.C. Jackson (elbow), running back Damien Harris (hamstring), linebacker Dont’a Hightower (knee), and safety Kyle Dugger (hamstring). Veteran receiver Nelson Agholor (concussion) was the player who was ruled out.

Jaguars Week 17 injury report: LB Dakota Allen remains limited, TE James O’Shaughnessy misses practice again

The Jags injury report went from three players to two on Thursday as OL Will Richardson was place on the injured reserve with a finger injury.

With over 20 players on the Reserve/COVID-19 list, the Jacksonville Jaguars only had two players surface on their injury report Thursday, and those players were linebacker Dakota Allen (shoulder) and tight end James O’Shaughnessy (hip). The former was limited, and the latter didn’t practice for the second consecutive day.

Both players sustained their injuries in Sunday’s game against the New York Jets, but the Jags’ public relations department reported Allen’s injury, and he was ruled questionable to return.

The Jags previously had offensive lineman Will Richardson on the list with a finger injury, but he was placed on injured reserve Thursday. Richardson’s injury puts the Jags in a tough spot as the team has starting guards Ben Bartch and Andrew Norwell currently on the Reserve/COVID-19 list. However, the Jags could potentially use KC McDermott and Tyler Shatley in the interior and they also have the option to activate interior lineman Tre’Vour Wallace-Simms off the practice squad, too.

As for the New England Patriots, they only had one change to their injury report as guard Shaq Mason was added to it with an illness. Aside from his addition though, the rest of the Patriots’ injury report remained the same as notables like center David Andrews, running back Damien Harris, and cornerback J.C. Jackson were limited again. Meanwhile, receiver Nelson Agholor and safety Joshuah Bledsoe (who was placed on injured reserve) remained out.

Jaguars Week 17 injury report: OL Will Richardson, TE James O’Shaughnessy miss practice on Wednesday

With the Jags placing several players on Reserve/COVID-19, their injury report only had three players on it Wednesday.

The Jacksonville Jaguars‘ first injury report of the week only had three players on it, and that’s mostly due to the team having several players on the Reserve/ COVID-19 list. Those three players were linebacker Dakota Allen (shoulder), tight end James O’Shaughnessy (hip), and offensive lineman Will Richardson (finger). Both Richardson and O’Shaughnessy didn’t practice, while Allen was limited.

Of the three players, Richardson was the lone player on last week’s injury report, but it was with a different injury (back). He ended up starting Sunday against the New York Jets, though, and was able to garner a touchdown after falling on a Trevor Lawrence fumble in the end zone.

Allen exited Sunday’s game early with his injury and was ruled questionable to return. O’Shaughnessy’s injury also occurred in the game as he was injured after a catch he made and was visibly in pain when he got up.

As for the New England Patriots, they had 12 players on their injury report and 10 of them were limited. Among the group were notables like center David Andrews. defensive lineman Christian Barmore, running back Damien Harris, and cornerback J.C. Jackson, to name a few.

As for those who missed practice for the Patriots, receiver Nelson Agholor and safety Joshua Bledsoe were the lone two players who didn’t take the field on Wednesday.

Quick Hits: Oregon Ducks finish non-conference schedule with 68-59 win over Pepperdine

The Ducks enter the holiday break on a semi-high note with a 68-59 win over Pepperdine, though the victory wasn’t very pretty.

The Oregon Ducks finished their non-conference schedule with a 68-59 win over Pepperdine and will now enter a short holiday break on a semi-high note following the victory.

Of course, it could have been a lot prettier, and head coach Dana Altman will certainly have a lot to say about the performance. The Ducks were lackadaisical early on, and struggle to put away a team that many would consider beneath them when it comes to talent on the floor.

Nonetheless, a win is a win, and those have been hard to come by for the Ducks so far this year. Here are a few quick notes from the victory on Tuesday:
