Ohio State football could get key weapon back in time for Indiana matchup

Ohio State football has one of the most lethal offenses in the country, and it may get a key weapon back for its battle with Indiana.

The Ohio State Buckeyes will welcome the No. 5 Indiana Hoosiers to Ohio Stadium on Saturday for a top-five showdown, and they are likely getting back a key tight end who should amplify their offense.

Ryan Day said that Will Kacmarek is likely to play Saturday in the primetime battle. Kacmarek has been out since sustaining an upper body injury against Oregon several weeks ago.

Day said with some kind of certainty via Eleven Warriors’ Chase Brown.

The 6-foot-6, 240-pound tight end transferred from Ohio, where he spent the last three seasons.

He totaled over 240 receiving yards in both the last two seasons and had five receptions for 58 yards prior to his injury against Oregon. In that game, he did have a pivotal catch for 32 yards.

With the offensive line being banged up, having another big body in there that is capable of blocking and also being a safety net for Will Howard will be helpful.

The Buckeyes battle with Indiana kicks off at noon ET and will be on FOX. ESPN’s College Gameday will also be present in what should be the banner matchup for college football this weekend.

Ohio State football issues availability report for Purdue Boilermakers #GoBucks

Ohio State football kicks off against the Purdue Boilermakers at Noon ET on Fox and a defensive star has been listed as available on the most recent availability report. Defensive lineman, Tyleik Williams, went down with an injury against the Penn State Nittany Lions last weekend, but looks like he will be back and ready to go against Purdue.

The offensive side of the football has taken the biggest hit again this week as tight end, Will Kacmarek, and offensive tackle, Zen Michalski, both listed as out for another week. Obviously, offensive tackle, Josh Simmons, is out once again as he suffered a season-ending injury against the Oregon Ducks.

Overall the injury report is more good news than bad, as rumors have been swirling about the Williams injury being bad enough to keep him out multiple weeks. Whether he plays this week or not is still a question, but the fact his name is not listed on the injury report is exciting. The report is listed as follows:

Out

RB TC Caffey
TE Will Kacmarek
OT Zen Michalski
TE Jace Middleton
OT Josh Simmons
CB Calvin Simpson-Hunt

Ohio State football kicks off against the Penn State Nittany Lions at noon on Fox for one of the year’s most anticipated games. The biggest concern for Ohio State was the potential loss of starting safety, Lathan Ransom. The defensive star missed last week and his absence was clear, but Buckeye fans can breathe easier knowing he was not mentioned on the injury report.

Now on the offensive side of the ball, a regular contributor was listed as out in tight end, Will Kacmarek. Gee Scott Jr. and Kacmarek rotate at the tight end position and him missing another game is not ideal for a struggling offense. The former Ohio Bobcat missed last week as well and it was obvious.

With Penn State featuring an elite defensive line, Kacmarek and his blocking is an underrated skill that will surely be noticed today. Starting offensive tackle, Zen Michalski is also missing today’s game. Michalski played extremely poorly last week, but missing another starting offensive lineman is not a great situation. The rest of the injury report is as follows:

  • WR Reis Stocksdale
  • TE Will Kacmarek
  • OL Zen Michalski
  • RB TC Caffey
  • OL Josh Simmons

Ohio State transfer portal scouting report: Will Kacmarek

Ohio State transfer portal scouting report: Will Kacmarek #GoBucks

The Ohio State football season is over, but the off-season has just begun and the Buckeyes are putting in work in the transfer portal. The first transfer portal addition comes from the Mid-American Conference in Will Kacmarek from the Ohio Bobcats.

One of the most exciting things about Kacmarek is that he isn’t just a one-year rental, but will have two years of eligibility remaining after finishing his redshirt sophomore season in 2023. Kacmarek was originally recruited as a two-star defensive lineman from Missouri, but quickly made the transition to tight end at Ohio. With Cade Stover leaving, the addition of Kacmarek could be vital.

Name: Will Kacmarek

Former School: Ohio Bobcats

Height: 6-feet, 6-inches

Weight: 252 pounds

Position: Tight End

Strengths

Will Kacmarek will immediately be the best blocker in the tight end room and has a very large frame to put on even more weight to push defenders around. With Kacmarek enrolling in January, it isn’t unrealistic to expect him to gain another ten pounds of muscle. Not a stat monster with only 42 receptions and two touchdowns the last two seasons, Kacmarek brings a level of experience that should allow him to have a higher floor than the rest of the tight end room.

Weaknesses

Will Kacmarek was not a consistent starter for the Bobcats and was often sharing the tight end load, which is a bit of a bummer especially when considering the drop-off in talent he was facing in MAC competition compared to what he will see in the Big Ten.

Expectations

I think the goal is for Jelani Thurman to develop into the star most think he can be, but blocking is a very hard trait to develop and Will Kacmarek provides a high floor in that department and can be a reliable starter and large target as a receiver.

Ohio State lands first player out of transfer portal

New addition won’t have to travel far. #GoBucks

The transfer portal has been open for a little over a month now and while Ohio State has had its fair share of players enter the portal and find new homes, the Buckeyes haven’t been very active in gaining new prospects. That changed today when Ryan Day landed his first player from the portal in tight end Will Kacmarek.

Kacmarek hails from St. Louis, Missouri, and was a two-star recruit as a defensive end. The former Ohio Bobcat entered the portal just two days ago and made his intentions known shortly after. Kacmarek will have two years of eligibility left after redshirting his freshman year in Athens in 2021.

With Cade Stover graduating and Joe Royer entering the transfer portal, there was room to add to the tight end room. However, with his history at defensive end, don’t rule out the possibility of a switch back to the defensive side of the ball.

Kacmerek caught 42 passes for 507 yards and two touchdowns for OU this season.

It remains to be seen if other areas of need will be addressed in the transfer portal, specifically on the offensive line and possibly the quarterback position. Rumors are swirling, but nothing official yet. Until then, we keep our eyes and ears peeled and let you know as moves are made.
