The news keeps getting better for Alabama on Tuesday, as Crimson Tide saw two of its 2020 signees make sizable leaps in the 247Sports recruiting rankings.

First, it was Tim Smith, who jumped from No. 82 overa#Alabamall all the way to No. 28. As if that wasn’t enough, Will Anderson went from being rated as the No. 62 overall player to No. 5.

The news also meant that both players had earned a fifth star.

When looking at the 2020 signing class, the first thing that stands out is the amount of talent included in the defensive front seven.

With the news of Anderson and Smith, Alabama now has five different players in the front seven that are rated as a five-star prospect according to at least one major recruiting service.

  • WDE Chris Braswell (247Sports, Rivals)
  • WDE Will Anderson (247Sports, Rivals)
  • ATH Drew Sanders (247Sports)
  • DT Tim Smith (247Sports)
  • ILB Demouy Kennedy (Rivals)

Considering Alabama’s struggles on that side of the football in 2019, the addition of that caliber of talent is a welcomed sight for Tide fans.

There’s no doubt that the parents of student athletes love seeing their kids excel and succeed, and Will Anderson’s mother is no exception.

On Sunday, Tereon Anderson took to twitter showcased her support and excitement for her son.

“Thanking God for his many blessings! One year ago today, our journey to Bama begin. I was nervous and excited. Will was curious and Big Will wanted to see the campus. My SIL told us to get ready and Bama did not disappoint. This day will always be special to me!”

Will Anderson is one of four players ranked inside the top 35 in the nation in Alabama’s 2020 class. He’s also ranked the No. 3 weak side defensive end in the 2020 class according to 247 sports.

Alabama signed 22 of its 26 commitments during the early signing period on Wednesday. To give fans a chance to get to know the newest Crimson Tide members, we are doing a series of overviews with each of the 2020 signees.

Next up on the list, four-star edge rusher Will Anderson.

Will Anderson, Defensive End

Hometown: Hampton (Ga.)

High school: Dutchtown

Size: 6-3, 233

247Sports composite ranking: 4-star / No. 78 overall / No. 5 WDE

Rivals ranking: 4-star / No. 159 overall / No. 8 WDE

Commitment date: June 17, 2019

Signing date: Dec. 18, 2019

Where does he fit in? Due to the talent Alabama added at edge rusher during the 2020 cycle, it will be interesting to see where Anderson fits in during his first season in Tuscaloosa.

Even though Anderson is the lowest rated of the four additions (Chris Braswell, Drew Sanders, Quandarrius Robinson and Anderson), he’s extremely talented and certainly capable of providing an early impact. In fact, I’d argue he’s the most “college ready” of the group for a rotational pass rushing role.

Anderson is a guy who rushes with a plan and seems ready to throw an array of moves at opposing SEC offensive linemen.

People also don’t need to forget that 2019 recruit DJ Dale was the lowest-rated Alabama defensive lineman in last year’s class, and yet, he contributed as much or more than any of them while being the first to earn a starting role.
