The LSU Tigers upset the Florida Gators 37-34 behind a last minute 57 yard field goal from Cade York. The game will be forever remembered for the play that helped set up the field goal.
Facing a fourth down, LSU was tackled short of first down marker, and was about to need to punt. Instead, Florida’s Marco Wilson launched LSU tight end Kole Taylor’s shoe many yards down the field.
The referees spotted the incident and immediately flagged Florida. Here’s the infamous shoe throw play:

If you watch closely at the end of the video, Marco Wilson’s teammates were not happy with him for throwing the shoe.
Here’s the SEC official’s explanation of Florida’s unsportsmanlike conduct penalty:

The penalty wasn’t the end of the game for Florida. The Gators had several other opportunities to stop LSU. In the end, Florida missed a 51 yard field goal to tie the game. Not all of the blame should be placed on Marco Wilson, but it was an unacceptable mistake given the circumstances. It is not the first time we’ve seen a shoe throw.
Georgia Bulldog fans rejoiced following the Gators’ defeat. Florida still advances to the SEC Championship, but this one hurts for Gator fans.
