Former Texas A&M Center Javonte Brown announces transfer destination

Former Aggies center Javonte Brown has announced his new transfer destination after leaving the program in April.

While we wish nothing but the best for every player that has departed Texas A&M’s basketball program after the 2022-2023 season, the hope is that none of them transfer within the SEC, and so far, so good. On Sunday, it was announced that former Aggies reserve center Javonte Brown has transferred to Western Michigan.

In two seasons under head coach Buzz Williams, the 7-footer couldn’t quite find his place among the experienced frontcourt, especially contending with the likes of starting forwards Henry Coleman III and Julius Marble, Brown only averaged 1.7 points and 1.6 rebounds, while only playing a total of 22 minutes last season.

After 31 appearances and 11 starts during the 2021-2022 campaign, Brown’s playing time decline mainly had to do with his general fit in Williams’ physically demanding system; he will join a Broncos program that has only lost one player to the transfer portal, and compete for a starting position for the first time in his collegiate career with two years of eligibility remaining.

Congratulations, Javonte!

Photos from Wisconsin basketball’s 76-66 victory over the Western Michigan Broncos on Friday night:

The Wisconsin Badgers were able to knock off the rust in a 76-66 victory over the Western Michigan Broncos on Friday night, after not playing the 15 days before because of the cancellation of their game against Grambling State.

The Badgers struggled in the first half but were able to get things rolling in the second half because of a career-high-scoring night from center Steven Crowl. He has been Wisconsin’s leading scorer over the last two games and has helped to take pressure off of forward Tyler Wahl.

The Badgers have now won their last five games and will enter their Big Ten schedule with upcoming games against Minnesota and Illinois.

Even though they allowed Western Michigan to stay in the game at halftime with only a 29-27 lead, the Wisconsin Badgers were able to pull away in the second half to beat the Broncos 76-66 at the Kohl Center.

Wisconsin was led by a phenomenal 25-point game from center Steven Crowl. In his career-high scoring performance, Crowl was also able to grab eight boards to help the Badgers win in their defensive effort. Point guard Chucky Hepburn and forward Tyler Wahl both also finished in the double-digits in scoring.

Now at 10-2, the Wisconsin Badgers will move back into Big Ten play next Tuesday against the Minnesota Golden Gophers.
