Auburn target Jaylen Heyward decommits from Georgia

The four-star safety is back on the market and Auburn is looking to take advantage.

Four-star safety [autotag]Jaylen Heyward[/autotag] committed to the Georgia Bulldogs on Jan. 13 but on Tuesday he decided to back off his pledge and Auburn is hoping to take advantage.

They never stopped recruiting the Rockledge, Florida product, getting him on campus for a visit back in March and they are a school he is “strongly considering.”

The 6-foot, 180-pounder told Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports that he is also considering UCF, USC, Michigan, Miami, UCF, Clemson and that Georgia is also still a factor.

Heyward is the No. 79 overall player and No. 5 safety in the 247Sports Composite ranking. He is also the No. 10 player from Florida.

Auburn’s dynamic duo of [autotag]Zac Etheridge[/autotag] and [autotag]Wesley McGriff[/autotag] are leading the charge for the Tigers.

They have already shown they are a potent combination on the recruiting trail, already landing four-star cornerbacks A’Mon Lane, Jayden Lewis and Jalyn Crawford as well as three-star safety Kensley Faustin in the 2024 cycle.

With him expected to be back on campus for Big Cat Weekend, the Tigers will be looking to try and separate from the pack for Heyward and pull off yet another impressive flip.

Auburn DB target Jalewis Solomon can see himself playing for Wesley McGriff

The Tigers are making moves with one of the top athletes in the country.

Four-star athlete [autotag]Jalewis Solomon[/autotag] was in Auburn last week but the two-way player decided to return Monday for an unofficial visit.

“I’ve been wanting to come back ever since we had that 7-on-7,” Solomon told Rivals’ Caleb Jones. “I promised them that I’d come back either Monday or Tuesday. I’ve been wanting to come back ever since that day.”

While the Ellaville, Georgia product has been to the Plains several times, this was his mom’s first trip.

Solomon is listed as an athlete and some schools are recruiting the 6-foot-1, 190-pounder as a wide receiver but [autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag] and cornerbacks coach [autotag]Wesley McGriff[/autotag] are recruiting him at corner and nickel.

McGriff is his primary recruiter and someone that Solomon is building a strong relationship with and can see himself playing for.

“He just loves getting all his freshmen on the field, getting them time to play and just how he strives to get whatever his players want,” Solomon said of McGriff. “He’ll always put a smile on your face whenever you need it.”

Rivals ranks him as the No. 143 overall player and No. 24 wide receiver. They also have him as the No. 18 player from Georgia.

Ona advantage Auburn has is defensive lineman [autotag]Zykevious Walker[/autotag], who is Solomon’s brother.

Solomon included Auburn in his top 11 schools and his next step will be trimming that list down to five before making a commitment.

Auburn has been expedited to Crawford’s top four following a successful official visit.

The coaching staff at Auburn put together another successful official visit last weekend. It was so enjoyable, that one prospect has expedited Auburn into his top four choices.

[autotag]Jayln Crawford[/autotag], a 2024 four-star cornerback from Lilburn, Georgia, recently visited Auburn and says that it was an “enjoyable experience.”

Crawford tells Auburn Undercover that he got to spend time with [autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag], [autotag]Zac Etheridge[/autotag], and [autotag]Wesley McGriff[/autotag]. He even got the chance to catch up with true freshmen [autotag]Terrance Love[/autotag] and [autotag]Kayin Lee[/autotag], players that he has gotten to know over the years.

“They just talk to me about the atmosphere and what all goes around and how it really goes down at Auburn,” Crawford said of his conversation with Love and Lee. “They just said it’s a great place and you can’t go wrong. It’s very important because I get to see the inside and how they really do things and what it’s all about.”

Crawford has already visited Florida and will take official visits to LSU and North Carolina this month before announcing his commitment in July. Auburn and LSU each have a crystal ball prediction from 247Sports, with the most recent crystal ball coming from Steve Wiltfong, going to LSU.

Auburn back in the picture for five star CB

“Flipmas” was a success in 2023. Can Hugh Freeze work his magic on Alabama commit Jaylen Mbakwe?

The state of Alabama’s top 2024 recruit has been a lock for Alabama since last July. However, [autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag] is working to change his mind.

[autotag]Jaylen Mbakwe[/autotag], a five-star cornerback from Clay-Chalkville in metro Birmingham, took an official visit to Auburn last weekend. During his visit, Freeze and defensive assistants [autotag]Wesley McGriff[/autotag] and [autotag]Zac Etheridge[/autotag] told Mbakwe that they were making him a priority this recruiting cycle, which may have him changing his tune when it comes to Auburn.

Mbakwe admitted to Christian Clemente of Auburn Undercover that Auburn was high on his list when [autotag]Gus Malzahn[/autotag] was the head coach on the Plains, but he put Auburn aside when [autotag]Bryan Harsin[/autotag] took over. He says that Freeze opened his eyes during his recent visit.

“I like to look in-state first. It kind of opened my eyes,” Mbakwe said in an interview with Auburn Undercover. This was the place I first wanted to come before the coaching change. I kind of backed off with coach (Bryan) Harsin here. With coach Freeze and the new staff, it kind of opened my eyes.”

Not only does Mbakwe want to compete on the gridiron at the next level, but he is also looking to run track. While on his visit, he spent time with Auburn Track and Field head coach [autotag]Leroy Burrell[/autotag].

“The track coaches are great,” Mbakwe said. “I came down for a track practice once. They were really fast. I see myself being one of those guys, a 9.9 guy.”

After his visit, Mbakwe says that Auburn has a chance to flip his decision and that he plans to return to campus in July for Big Cat Weekend.

RELATED: Meet the top 2024 prospects from the state of Alabama

Mbakwe is the No. 1 prospect from the state of Alabama for the 2024 cycle according to 247Sports and is the No. 19 athlete in the nation.

Auburn is ‘high on the list’ for in-state safety Red Morgan

He is one of several Auburn targets at Central-Phenix City.

Auburn hosted a talented group of local prospects Thursday in safety [autotag]Red Morgan[/autotag], five-star wide receiver [autotag]Cam Coleman[/autotag], offensive lineman [autotag]Mal Waldrep[/autotag] and wide receiver [autotag]Daylyn Upshaw[/autotag]. All four play for nearby Central-Phienix City and have Auburn offers.

The group was hosted by Auburn wide receivers coach [autotag]Marcus Davis[/autotag] and while he plays on the opposite side of the ball, Morgan enjoyed his time with Davis.

“It feels like home,” he told Auburn Live’s Jeffrey Lee of the campus. “It does. The coaches, how they treat us, they feel like father figures. Coach Davis, he’s not even my position coach, but the relationship we have … I mess with Coach Davis.”

It was Morgan’s second visit under the new staff and it made quite the impression on the 6-foot, 175-pounder.

“They’re high on the list,” he added.

Morgan is the No. 499 overall player and No. 49 safety in the 247Sports Composite ranking. He is also the No. 27 player in Alabama.

Morgan is planning to return to Auburn for an official visit sometime in June before announcing his commitment either during the summer or early in the fall. He already has official visits scheduled with Michigan State (June 2), Cincinnati (June 9) and Miami (June 30).

The Tigers have already landed four-star cornerbacks [autotag]A’Mon Lane[/autotag] and [autotag]Jayden Lewis[/autotag] in the 2024 recruiting cycle but are still looking for their first commit at safety.

Four-star CB Jalyn Crawford sets official visit to Auburn

The Tigers have received one prediction to land the talented corner.

One of Auburn’s top targets returned to Auburn over the weekend and has set his official visit to the Plains. Four-star cornerback [autotag]Jalyn Crawford[/autotag] was in Auburn Saturday and will return for an official visit from June 9-11, he told Christian Clemente of Auburn Undercover.

His visit was his third of the year as the Tigers continue to prioritize the Lilburn, Georgia product. Crawford has also set official visits to Florida (June 2-4) and LSU (June 16-18) and is planning to make his commitment at the end of June.

He is the No. 129 overall player and No. 14 cornerback in the 247Sports Composite ranking. He is the No. 23 player from Georgia.

The 6-foot, 180-pounder was able to spend time with most of the defensive coaching staff on his most recent visit but spent most of the time with defensive back coaches [autotag]Zac Etheridge[/autotag] and [autotag]Wesley McGriff[/autotag].

He is teammates with two other Auburn targets, five-star wide receiver [autotag]Mike Matthews[/autotag] and three-star defensive back [autotag]Antonio White[/autotag]. Auburn has offered both of them with Mathews also receiving a basketball offer.

Auburn and LSU have both received a crystal ball to land Crawford with Auburn’s coming on March 15, 2023, and LSU’s back on June 11, 2022.
