Auburn football offers four-star RB Carsyn Baker

The 2026 running back rushed for 303 yards and three scores for a loaded Langston Hughes (Ga.) squad in 2023.

Langston Hughes High School in Fairburn, Georgia has become a factory for premier football talent. Players such as Ohio State QB Air Noland, UCF safety Jakob Gude, and Auburn safety [autotag]Terrance Love[/autotag] all played for Langston Hughes before making their way into the Power Five ranks.

It would be fair to say that Langston Hughes’ football program will continue to produce top-notch talent in the future, which is why Auburn head coach [autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag] and running backs coach [autotag]Derrick Nix[/autotag] is working to lock down one of Hughes’ future pieces.

[autotag]Carsyn Baker[/autotag], a class of 2026 three-star running back from Langston Hughes High School in Fairburn, Georgia, announced Monday that he has received an offer from Auburn. Auburn is the latest SEC program to extend an offer to the talented running back joining South Carolina and Ole Miss.

Despite Langston Hughes having a loaded offensive unit in 2023, Baker managed to contribute to their success. He appeared in nine games last season where he rushed for 303 yards and a touchdown on 31 carries. He rushed for 100 yards on five touches in Langston Hughes’ 56-9 win over Paulding County on Nov. 9.

Baker is a 6-0, 195-pound running back who is rated as a three-star back by On3 and 247Sports. However, according to 247Sports’ composite rankings, he is a four-star that is the No. 21 overall running back in the nation. Ole Miss and South Carolina are the top schools to watch currently, but expect Auburn to join the mix now that an offer has been extended.

Auburn reveals jersey numbers for freshman summer enrollees

Here’s a look at what number each of Auburn’s freshman summer enrolles will wear.

Auburn put some finishing touches on its roster Tuesday with the announcement of the jersey numbers for the transfers and freshmen who enrolled during the summer.

Eleven freshmen enrolled over the summer and were officially added to the roster including running back [autotag]Jeremiah Cobb[/autotag], the highest-ranked offensive player from [autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag]’s transitional class.

While Cobb has a chance to contribute immediately, quarterback [autotag]Hank Brown[/autotag] and offensive tackle [autotag]Tyler Johnson[/autotag] will likely need time to develop before they are ready to see the field.

They also got some much-needed reinforcements in the secondary with cornerbacks [autotag]Colton Hood[/autotag], [autotag]JC Hart[/autotag], [autotag]Champ Anthony[/autotag], and [autotag]Tyler Scott[/autotag], in addition to safeties [autotag]Sylvester Smith[/autotag], [autotag]Terrance Love[/autotag], and [autotag]C.J. Johnson[/autotag] all making it to the Plains.

They also welcome defensive lineman [autotag]Darron Reed Jr.[/autotag] who can play anywhere across the defensive line for the Tigers.

Two members of the 2023 recruiting class are still missing from the roster, freshman wide receiver [autotag]Daquayvious Sorey[/autotag] and JUCO defensive lineman [autotag]Quientrail Jamison-Travis[/autotag].

Here is a look at each number the freshmen summer enrollees will wear their first season at Auburn.

Jayln Crawford includes in Auburn in top four, will announce commitment this summer

Auburn has been expedited to Crawford’s top four following a successful official visit.

The coaching staff at Auburn put together another successful official visit last weekend. It was so enjoyable, that one prospect has expedited Auburn into his top four choices.

[autotag]Jayln Crawford[/autotag], a 2024 four-star cornerback from Lilburn, Georgia, recently visited Auburn and says that it was an “enjoyable experience.”

Crawford tells Auburn Undercover that he got to spend time with [autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag], [autotag]Zac Etheridge[/autotag], and [autotag]Wesley McGriff[/autotag]. He even got the chance to catch up with true freshmen [autotag]Terrance Love[/autotag] and [autotag]Kayin Lee[/autotag], players that he has gotten to know over the years.

“They just talk to me about the atmosphere and what all goes around and how it really goes down at Auburn,” Crawford said of his conversation with Love and Lee. “They just said it’s a great place and you can’t go wrong. It’s very important because I get to see the inside and how they really do things and what it’s all about.”

Crawford has already visited Florida and will take official visits to LSU and North Carolina this month before announcing his commitment in July. Auburn and LSU each have a crystal ball prediction from 247Sports, with the most recent crystal ball coming from Steve Wiltfong, going to LSU.

Auburn offers 4-star offensive tackle committed to Alabama

Auburn is once again looking to pull off an impressive flip, this time of four-star offensive tackle Dontrell Glover.

A year after pulling off several impressive flips, [autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag] and Auburn are once again looking to pry recruits away from their rivals.

The Tigers extended an offer to 2025 four-star offensive tackle [autotag]Dontrell Glover[/autotag] on Thursday. He is from Fairburn, Georgia, and since April 13 has been committed to the Alabama Crimson Tide.

The 6-foot-3, 290-pounder plays for Langston Hughes High School, which could give Auburn an advantage in their pursuit of him. [autotag]Terrance Love[/autotag], a 2023 signee, played safety for Langston Hughes before coming to Auburn.

Glover is the No. 240 overall player and No. 20 offensive tackle in the 247Sports Composite ranking. He is also the No. 24 player from Georgia.

The Tigers already have one commit in their 2025 recruiting class in four-star defensive lineman [autotag]Mailk Autry[/autotag].

CB Tyler Scott committs to Auburn during All-American Bowl

Zac Etheridge and Wesley McGriff have landed yet another impressive player for Auburn.

Auburn has landed one of its top remaining targets in cornerback [autotag]Tyler Scott[/autotag].

Scott, who signed with Auburn during the early signing period, announced his commitment Saturday during the All-American Bowl.

He may be a three-star prospect but has an offer list that shows just how coveted he was. Auburn beat out Alabama, Tennesee, USC, Texas, Michigan, and other top programs for the Mableton, Georgia product.

The 6-foot-1, 195-pound Scott originally committed to Arkansas State back on June 15 but blew up during his senior season and backed off his pledge. He is the No. 446 overall player and No. 43 cornerback in the 247Sports Composite ranking.

He is also the No. 46 player from Georgia but after a strong showing at the All-American Bowl, he could be soon getting a bump.

He joins an impressive defensive back class for Auburn that is headlined by four-star cornerback [autotag]Kayin Lee[/autotag]. Three-star prospects [autotag]Colton Hood[/autotag] and [autotag]JC Hart[/autotag] round out the haul at cornerback.

Secondary coaches [autotag]Zac Etheridge[/autotag] and [autotag]Wesley McGriff[/autotag] also landed four-star safeties [autotag]Sylvester Smith[/autotag] and [autotag]Terrance Love[/autotag] to round out the defensive back room.

With the addition of Scott, Auburn now has the No. 19 recruiting class in the 247Sports team recruiting ranking.

Jeremiah Cobb did not sign with Auburn on Wednesday. Why is that?

Auburn inked 18 players on the first day of the early signing period, but one important name was missing.

When [autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag] took over the head coaching job at Auburn on Nov. 28, he entered a tough situation on the recruiting front.

After spending time near the bottom of the SEC rankings, the Tigers ended the day with a top-20 class. The bump was a testament to the hard work of Hugh Freeze and staff to make up for what Freeze felt was unacceptable.

“It’s been a wild two weeks for us,” Hugh Freeze said Wednesday. “We came into this considerably behind what I think Auburn should be in recruiting.”

Loyal commits such as [autotag]Bradyn Joiner[/autotag], [autotag]J.C. Hart[/autotag], and [autotag]Terrance Love[/autotag] all signed with Auburn on the first day of the early signing period, while [autotag]Keldric Faulk[/autotag], [autotag]Connor Lew[/autotag], and [autotag]Stephen Jackson[/autotag] signed with Auburn after previously committing elsewhere.

Despite the excitement surrounding Wednesday’s signees, there was one important name that was not announced as an early signee.

[autotag]Jeremiah Cobb[/autotag], a four-star running back from Montgomery, did not sign on Wednesday, making him the only 2023 pledge that did not make his commitment to Auburn official.

Should this be a concern for Auburn fans? Christian Clemente of 247Sports says that fans should not worry, as Cobb is still a strong Auburn commit.

Clemente says that Cobb has elected to wait until February to sign his letter of intent so that he can enjoy the special occasion with his teammates at Montgomery Catholic. Although he is waiting an extra six weeks to sign with the Tigers, Clemente is confident that Cobb is locked in with Auburn and does not see another program in the hunt.

Cobb is the No. 12 running back from the 2023 class, and the No. 16 overall prospect from the state of Alabama. Cobb has been committed to Auburn since July 1 and visited the campus three times during the 2022 season.

SEC analyst Paul Finebaum reveals way Bryan Harsin can save his job

Bryan Harsin has received tons of heat lately, but an improved effort in recruiting could boost morale all over.

Since the conclusion of the 2021 season, which ended with Auburn losing five straight games after starting the season 6-2, head coach Bryan Harsin’s job has been in jeopardy.

After fighting an offseason coup to remove him from the job in the offseason, Harsin led Auburn to a 2-0 start with wins over Mercer and San Jose State to begin the 2022 campaign. While the games were not played perfectly, it appeared that Harsin had his team trending in the right direction.

That all changed when Penn State visited Jordan-Hare Stadium on Sept. 17 and handed Auburn their most lopsided loss since the 2012 Georgia game. Last week, Auburn avoided their second loss in as many weeks thanks to a missed field goal and a fumble before the goal line that allowed the Tigers to escape with a 17-14 win over Missouri.

Now, it appears that Harsin’s seat is hotter than ever.

It does not help Harsin’s case that there are Power Five jobs opening around the country just four weeks into the season. That could put pressure on Auburn to make a move so that they can hire a quality replacement before all of their options have secured new jobs.

The job is not open, however. There is still time for Harsin to take strong leadership of this prestigious program that competes in the nation’s best conference. How can he do that? One college football expert weighs in.

Paul Finebaum of the SEC Network was a guest on the radio show “McElroy and Cubelic in the Morning” on Jox 94.5 in Birmingham Monday morning to share his thoughts on the weekend that was in the SEC. As is customary for an Alabama-based radio show, Harsin was discussed.

Finebaum criticized several of Harsin’s coaching decisions in last weekend’s win over Missouri but went on to say that the pressure that he has been dealt at Auburn is not entirely his fault. He says that Auburn has struggled in recruiting, dating back to the previous era.

“(Gus) Malzahn had moments. I think he was able to get some real, difference-making players on that roster as we all know. But, with Malzahn, it caught up to him at the end. His recruiting trailed off,” Finebaum said. “As Georgia became a juggernaut on top with Alabama and LSU has always made a difference, it just became more difficult.”

Last recruiting cycle, Auburn reeled in the No. 21 class according to 247Sports and sits currently at No. 56 in the 2023 rankings with 10 commitments. Harsin’s recruiting efforts have also been condemned, but Finebaum believes that if Harsin can put life back into recruiting, that could be one step towards keeping his job.

“You can overcome bad coaching decisions if you have a little bit of talent. But there just isn’t any talent,” Finebaum said. “I realize Auburn was shorthanded from a quarterback standpoint… but I’ve never seen less imagination and more sandlot ball than (vs. Missouri) in my life.”

Out of the 10 commitments that Auburn has received for the 2023 cycle, seven of them are rated as four-star prospects according to 247Sports. The class is headlined by running back [autotag]Jeremiah Cobb[/autotag], wide receiver [autotag]Adam Hopkins[/autotag], and safety [autotag]Terrance Love[/autotag].

Auburn commits shine in high school season openers

Five of Auburn’s seven commits were in action Friday night for their high school squads, and the final two will open their season on Saturday.

Auburn Football is building something special with their 2023 commitments.

The Tigers have seven commits so far for the cycle, with all but one receiving a four-star ranking by 247Sports.

Those recruits will have one more season of development in high school before making their way to the Plains. For most commits, they began their senior season of high school football on Friday night.

Three commits from the state of Alabama enjoyed a win on Friday. [autotag]Jeremiah Cobb[/autotag], a four-star running back from Montgomery, played a crucial role in Catholic’s 21-point season-opening win over McGill-Toolen. Four-star receiver [autotag]Karmello English[/autotag] was also a game-changer in Central-Phenix City’s victory over Hewitt-Trussville.

Here’s a recap of how five Auburn commits performed for their high school teams in week one. Two others, four-star safety [autotag]Terrance Love[/autotag] and three-star cornerback [autotag]JC Hart[/autotag], will open their seasons on Saturday.

Four-star safety Terrance Love commits to Auburn

Auburn has landed four-star safety Terrance Love.

Auburn football has landed its second commit of the 2023 recruiting class. Four-star linebacker Terrance Love committed to the Tigers Sunday afternoon.

Love visited Auburn in March and returned for A-Day this weekend. He is the second member of Auburn’s 2023 recruiting class, joining four-star offensive lineman Bradyn Joiner, who plays for Auburn High.

Love is the No. 182 overall prospect and No. 17 recruit in the state of Georgia, according to the 247Sports Composite. He is yet another big recruit that Zac Etheridge was the primary recruiter for.

Love is Auburn’s first commitment in over three months and he is a big one. He is a physical presence in the back of the defense who can help in run support or coverage. He has the size to cover big wide receivers or tight ends but enough speed to cover smaller, faster wideouts.

Blue-chip linebacker planning late March visit to Florida

The Gators have a chance to score big with this prospect later on this month.

The month of March is a busy one for Florida football’s newest head coach Billy Napier and his staff, as the team turns the page on the 2022 recruiting cycle and begins hosting their potential brood of 2023. One of the primary focuses of the new regime is to return the Gators to its previous glory when it came to attracting the biggest and best talent, and those efforts are currently underway in Gainesville.

One of the bigger names on Florida’s list of prep prospects is 4-star linebacker Terrance Love out of Langston Hughes in Fairburn, Georgia. The 6-foot-3-inch, 195-pound defender had received an offer from Dan Mullen’s staff before being disbanded but managed to maintain contact with the new crew in the interim.

Still, there is a sense of growing attachment between the potential student-athlete and the school, as he recently told Gators Online, “I talk to them here and there, but the relationship with the coaches is starting to pick up a little bit more.”

He also added, “It’s been a few times I’ve spoken with coach (Sean) Spencer. I’ve been talking to them recently and it’s been going well… The defensive scheme they run is pretty good. I just want to see it for myself, like, I want to be there to see it. I also like the weather.”

The high school junior will get his chance to see the schemes as well as enjoy the warm climate with an unofficial visit to the University of Florida set for March 26. The Gators are among 35 total offers for the linebacker’s services, including Alabama, Georgia, Texas A&M, USC, Auburn, Notre Dame and Michigan. Love visited Georgia Tech on Tuesday and will travel to Auburn on March 18 before making his way to Gainesville the following weekend.
