Monday Night Football schedule: Is there a ‘ManningCast’ tonight?

There’s no ‘ManningCast’ tonight, but Peyton and Eli will return to ‘Monday Night Football’ for a Wild-Card game in January.

After a hilarious fake search for a third host this offseason, Peyton Manning and Eli Manning have returned to ESPN2 this fall for a third season of the ManningCast (without a third host).

As they have done for the past two seasons, Peyton and Eli will have special guests join them on the alternate broadcast of Monday Night Football, but they will remain the two hosts of the popular show.

Disney will continue to carry its standard MNF broadcasts on main ESPN with Joe Buck and Troy Aikman serving as the commentators for the primary broadcast. The ten alternate ManningCasts featuring Peyton and Eli will be broadcast on ESPN2 and available to stream on NFL+.

Here is the full ManningCast schedule of games during the 2023 season.

WATCH: Chiefs convert crucial fourth down with fake punt pass

The #Chiefs resorted to some serious trickery to convert a fourth down against the #Raiders with a fake punt pass.

The Kansas City Chiefs have resorted to trickery during their Week 16 matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders and managed to pull off a slick fake punt pass late in the second quarter to convert a crucial fourth down.

Punter Tommy Townsend was responsible for the throw on the play and found veteran wide receiver Justin Watson near the sideline to pick up a much-needed first down.

Take a look at the outstanding fake here, and take note of Watson’s impressive sliding catch:

While the Chiefs won’t want to rely on unconventional methods to keep the ball matriculating downfield, plays like this are a sign that Kansas City can still pick up yards in key situations.

Facing a 10-point deficit before halftime, the Chiefs need to find a way to come up with a few scores before the game gets out of hand. Expect Patrick Mahomes to play with more restraint in the third and fourth quarters to keep Kansas City from relying on their punter to gain gritty yards.

WATCH: Chiefs DL Chris Jones sacks Raiders QB Aidan O’Connell

#Chiefs DL Chris Jones got in rhythm early after sacking #Raiders QB Aidan O’Connell in Week 16.

Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman Chris Jones didn’t waste any time making his presence felt against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 16 after sacking quarterback Aidan O’Connell early in the first quarter.

The big play came on Las Vegas’ first offensive drive and helped Kansas City force a Raiders punt.

Check out Jones’ outstanding effort here, and notice the athleticism on display as the All-Pro lineman bursts into the backfield:

This sack put Jones at 8.5 total on the 2023 season and moves him closer to cashing in on the performance incentives he negotiated while holding out from team activities during Kansas City’s training camp.

While Jones’ effort on this play was admirable, the Chiefs have been mired in offensive dysfunction against Las Vegas and couldn’t score points when they got the ball back after the Raiders’ punt.

Expect the former Mississippi State Bulldog to continue bringing the heat when Las Vegas opts to move the ball through the air.

Studs and duds from Broncos’ 26-23 loss to the Patriots

Here’s a look at the naughty and nice from the Broncos’ loss to the Patriots.

While visions of sugarplums danced through the heads of many young Denver Broncos fans, it turned into the nightmare before Christmas once again for the hometown team against the New England Patriots on Sunday. We take a look at the naughty and nice from the game.

Broncos lose to Patriots 26-23 in nightmare before Christmas

In a nightmare before Christmas, the Broncos lost to the Patriots 26-23 on Sunday evening. Denver needs a miracle to make the playoffs now.

In a nightmare before Christmas, the Denver Broncos lost to the New England Patriots 26-23 on Sunday evening.

The night started well for the Broncos as defensive lineman D.J. Jones strip-sacked Patriots quarterback Bailey Zappe on the first play of the game and Jones recovered the fumble at New England’s six-yard line.

A few plays later, after a Russell Wilson would-be interception was deemed an incomplete pass, the Broncos went for it on 4th-and-goal at the two-yard line and running back Javonte Williams was stopped at the one-yard line.

New England and Denver then exchanged punts. On their next possession, the Patriots punted again and Mims returned the punt 52 yards to New England’s 25-yard line.

Denver then got down to the three-yard line and running back Javonte Williams scored on a three-yard rush to take a 7-0 lead. The Patriots kicked a 33-yard field goal on their next drive to make 7-3.

On their next drive, Broncos guard Ben Powers appeared to recover a Williams fumble, but New England was awarded the ball after defensive lineman Jeremiah Pharms emerged from the pile with the ball.

The Patriots later missed a 47-yard field goal attempt with 33 seconds remaining before halftime. Denver then went 24 yards before missing a 57-yard field goal attempt, taking a 7-3 lead into halftime.

The Broncos started the second half with a punt and New England then went 70 yards before Ezekiel Elliott caught a 15-yard touchdown pass to take a 9-7 lead (Patriots kicker Chad Ryland missed the extra point attempt).

Later in the third quarter, Zappe threw a 11-yard touchdown pass to tight end Mike Gesicki to make it 16-7. On the ensuing kickoff, Denver returner Marvin Mims fumbled on his return and New England recovered the ball in the end zone to extend the lead to 23-7.

In the fourth quarter, Wilson threw a three-yard touchdown pass to tight end Lucas Krull and then connected with Brandon Johnson for a successful two-point conversion to make it 23-15.

After getting the ball back, Wilson led an 11-play, 78-yard drive that culminated with a 21-yard touchdown pass to Brandon Johnson. Wilson then converted a two-point attempt with a two-yard toss to Javonte Williams that tied the game 23-23 late in the fourth quarter.

New England and Denver then exchanged punts before the Patriots went 44 yards and kicked a 56-yard field goal to seal a 26-23 win.

On the injury front, Broncos receiver Courtland Sutton suffered a head injury in the first quarter and did not return.

Denver is not mathematically eliminated from playoff contention with the loss, but the team would need a lot of help to get in. Up next for the Broncos is a home game against the Los Angeles Chargers (5-10) in Week 17.

Bucs dominate Jaguars 30-12 to move closer to NFC South title

The Bucs cooked the Jaguars in a game that wasn’t nearly as close as its score would indicate.

The Buccaneers picked a good time to start looking like a playoff team, crushing the Jacksonville Jaguars 30-12. Tampa Bay controlled the entire game, maintaining their lead from the opening drive and at no point appearing in danger of faltering. With this victory, the Bucs are one win away from securing the NFC South and a home playoff game.

While the Bucs were not as dominant offensively as they were last week against the Packers, the team put together a more complete game. The defense forced four turnovers and held the Jaguars to 12 points, slamming the door shut on all of the Jaguars’ drives until late into the third quarter.

The Bucs took an early 3-0 lead, moving down to the Jaguars 6-yard line before settling for the field goal. The defense pitched in on the following drive with a Devin White interception. Baker Mayfield then put the team on his back, avoiding two sacks to keep the drive alive and throwing a touchdown pass to Mike Evans.

Jacksonville’s offense continued to struggle, missing a field goal on the following drive that the Bucs turned into a field goal of their own. Lawrence’s nightmare half continued with another interception, this time to Antoine Winfield Jr. Tampa Bay exploited the miscue yet again, driving 65 yards for another Mike Evans touchdown.

The first half was an unmitigated disaster for Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence and Jacksonville’s offense. Lawrence turned the ball over twice and took two sacks while the team missed a field goal on their only real scoring attempt. While Tampa Bay’s third-down defense was as porous as it has been most of the season, strong efforts from Winfield, Lavonte David and Yaya Diaby buoyed the defense into shutting the Jaguars out in the first half.

The second half did not start any better for the Jaguars as a Diaby strip-sack gave the Bucs the ball in Jacksonville territory. The Bucs scored again on a 2-yard Rachaad White run:

The Jaguars offense entered desperation mode on the following drive, attempting and failing to convert on 4th-and-13. Jacksonville would not get on the board until late in the third quarter with an 18-yard touchdown pass from Lawrence to Calvin Ridley.

After forcing the first Bucs punt of the day early in the fourth quarter, the Jaguars pulled Lawrence, replacing him with C.J. Beathard. The switch did little to change the results as Zyon McCollum forced an Evan Engram fumble that was recovered by Winfield.

After the Bucs failed to score off the turnover, the Jaguars drove down to the Bucs’ 10-yard line, but a Yaya Diaby sack led to another failed fourth-down conversion attempt. The Jaguars were able to put together one more touchdown drive, but by then the game was well out of hand. The Bucs ran out the clock on the following drive.

Mayfield was once again highly efficient, completing 26-of-35 passes for 283 yards and two touchdowns. He also distributed the ball across the entire receiving corps, with four players recording at least four catches and 30 receiving yards. The run game was not as successful, gaining just 70 yards for 1.9 yards per attempt.

On defense, the Bucs subsisted on big plays, recording four sacks, five tackles for loss and four turnovers. A returning White made his presence known after a week where his game status was a matter of controversy, notching four tackles, half a sack, an interception, two pass breakups and two quarterback hits.

Beating the Jaguars puts the Bucs on the precipice of a third consecutive division title and fourth consecutive playoff berth. Tampa Bay has already beaten their next two opponents, the Saints and the Panthers, this year. With the Bucs playing their best football of the season, it appears likely they are headed for the postseason.
