Memphis Grizzlies at Washington Wizards odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Friday’s Memphis Grizzlies at Washington Wizards odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Memphis Grizzlies (5-3) travel to the nation’s capital Friday to play the Washington Wizards (5-3) at Capital One Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Grizzlies vs. Wizards odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions, and bets.

Memphis has won three of its past four games including victories in back-to-meetings with the Denver Nuggets earlier this week. The Grizzlies are 6-2 against the spread (ATS) and 4-4 Over/Under (O/U) with four upsets as underdogs.

Washington has lost back-to-back games to the Toronto Raptors and Atlanta Hawks entering Friday. The two things that stand out the most for the Wizards are their third-ranked defensive 3-point percentage and second-best offensive turnover rate. Washington is 5-3 ATS and 4-4 O/U.

The Grizzlies pummeled the Wizards by double digits in both regular-season meetings last year. Memphis guard Ja Morant dominated Washington last season, averaging 28.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 10.0 assists per game with a plus-23 net rating in both meetings.

Grizzlies at Wizards odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Grizzlies 115, Wizards 110

Money line

BET the GRIZZLIES (+100) for 1 unit because I have a lot more faith in Memphis being able to execute its offense than Washington.

The Grizzlies have the highest frequency of field goal attempts in transition, take the fourth-most catch-and-shoot 3-pointers and the sixth-most shot attempts off of screens, according to ShotQuality.com.

Whereas Washington’s defense ranks 21st in efficiency vs. transition offense, 29th in efficiency vs. catch-and-shoot 3-pointers and 22nd in efficiency vs. field goals off screens.

The Wizards attempt the second-highest volume of short-mid-range field goals and the eighth-highest volume of all mid-range shots (according to CleaningTheGlass.com). However, the Grizzlies have the seventh-best defensive field goal shooting vs. mid-range attempts.

Since Memphis drafted Morant in 2019, the Grizzlies have played well againnst Eastern Conference teams. The Grizzlies are 34-25 overall vs. the East with a plus-2.1 margin of victory over that span. While the Wizards are just 25-32 overall with a minus-3.4 margin of victory over the same timeframe.

Against the spread

PASS since Memphis’s money line is only 10 cents on the dollar more expensive than the Grizzlies +1.5 (-110), which doesn’t offer much insurance anyhow.

However, money is coming in on Washington and I always wait until the final injury report before making an NBA regular-season wager. Let’s wait until closer to tip-off and take the Grizzlies if their spread goes to 3 or more points.

Over/Under

“LEAN” to the OVER 220.5 (-108) because the totals of the two Grizzlies-Wizards meetings last season were 238 and 238.5.

Sure, Unders are cashing like crazy thus far in the NBA regular season, but there’s going to be a regression back to the mean, and the 18-point gulf between this Grizzlies-Wizards meeting and their contests last season is too wide.

Washington has the second-highest offensive FT/FGA rate and Memphis has the second-worst defensive effective field goal shooting.

Early money steamed the Grizzlies-Wizards total down from the 224.5-point opener. This has turned into a “Pros vs. Joe’s” game as nearly 70% of the cash is on the Over while more than 60% of the bets placed are on the Under according to pregame.com.

Typically, in sports betting, it’s wise to follow the money especially when it’s flowing in the opposite direction as the public.

My favorite play in this game is Memphis’s money line but there’s value in the OVER 220.5 (-108).

Washington Wizards at Brooklyn Nets odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s Washington Wizards at Brooklyn Nets odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Washington Wizards (2-0) visit the Brooklyn Nets (1-2) Monday. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET at Barclays Center. Below, we look at the Wizards vs. Nets odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

The Nets came into the season as the favorites to win the NBA Finals but have disappointed so far. Brooklyn is led by SF Kevin Durant and SG James Harden and remains without PG Kyrie Irving.

The Nets have received big-time contributions from PF LaMarcus Aldridge and PG Patty Mills, a couple of veterans they bring off the bench. They’ve lost to the Milwaukee Bucks and Charlotte Hornets, both by more than 15 points and defeated the Philadelphia 76ers 114-109.

The Wizards are led by SG Bradley Beal who finished the 2020-2021 season second league-wide in points per game with 31.3.

The Wiz are undefeated, taking down the Indiana Pacers 135-134 in overtime and then also holding the Toronto Raptors to just 83 points in a season-opening road victory. This will be their biggest challenge yet.

Wizards at Nets odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Nets 118, Wizards 108

Money line

PASS on the money line. While the +230 for the Wizards to pull off an upset is intriguing, a hobbled Beal and no Hachimura would have me looking elsewhere.

Even if the Wizards were at full strength this would likely be a pass as the Nets are just overloaded with talent.

Against the spread

“LEAN” to the NETS -6.5 (-120) with it receiving some juice from the sportsbooks.

Again, with the league’s second-leading scorer from a season ago potentially nursing an injury, I’m not liking backing the road team. Also, Durant and Harden haven’t played up to par.

The Nets would be 0-3 if not for a fourth quarter comeback against the Sixers However, at 1-2, they still have two losses of 16 or more points. It’s been an ugly start, and with PF Blake Griffin expected back, the Nets should be looking for a statement win at home.

I believe they get it. Especially with Hachimura out, I expect a big game from Durant as he should be seeing a subpar defender as well.

Over/Under

BET on the UNDER 231.5 (-108) as the best value in this game. Sportsbooks and fans continue to bank on the Nets offense being one of the best in the NBA.

With Harden and Durant, two former scoring title winners both still in their prime, there’s no reason they shouldn’t have topped 115 in any of their three games.

But, they haven’t, and despite the prediction that they hit the mark at home, the Nets defense and a banged-up Wizards team is what should help fuel the Under to hit in this one.

In their sole performance topping 100 so far this season, the Wiz put up 19 threes. I do not see that happening often. Fade the Wizards and back a capable Nets defense here.

Philadelphia 76ers at Washington Wizards Game 4 odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Monday’s Philadelphia 76ers at Washington Wizards Game 4 odds and lines, with NBA picks, tips and predictions.

The 8-seed Washington Wizards and 1-seed Philadelphia 76ers play Game 4 of their Eastern Conference first-round series Monday at Capital One Arena. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the 76ers vs. Wizards odds and lines, with NBA picks and predictions.

The Wizards are looking to avoid the broom in Game 4, but they have shown very little fight over the past two games. Washington was run out of its own building in Game 3, falling 132-103 as 5-point underdogs.

The 76ers shot lights out in Game 3, hitting 59% from the field, including 51.5% from behind the arc. If there was one area of concern it would be their 65% mark at the free-throw line where they went just 13-of-20.

76ers at Wizards: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

76ers 121, Wizards 105

Money line (ML)

The 76ers (-375) will cost you nearly four times your potential return as they look to complete the sweep and close out the series. That’s simply not a good bet, as certain as a Philly win straight up might be.

AVOID and look to the spread.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

The 76ERS -8 (-115) have easily covered the past two games, winning Game 2 by 25 points in Philly and Game 3 by 29 points in D.C. It turned out Russell Westbrook’s status, whether he played or not, was of no consequence. The same is true in this one.

The Wizards just do not have nearly enough weapons to keep the Sixers at bay. This will be another double-digit win by the 1-seed.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 229.5 (-110) is worth a small-unit play. Philadelphia has scored 120 or more points in every game in this series, and the Under cashed only in Game 2. Washington has averaged just 99.0 PPG the past two games, and another Under is in the offing before they head to the golf course.

Philadelphia 76ers at Washington Wizards Game 3 odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Saturday’s Philadelphia 76ers at Washington Wizards Game 3 odds and lines, with NBA picks, tips and predictions.

The 8-seed Washington Wizards and 1-seed Philadelphia 76ers play Game 3 of their Eastern Conference first-round series Saturday at Capital One Arena. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Wizards vs. 76ers odds and lines, with NBA picks and predictions.

The Wizards were roughed up in Game 2 by a 120-95 score, falling into a 2-0 series hole heading home.

To make matters worse for the Wizards, PG Russell Westbrook rolled his ankle and is a question mark for Game 3.

The 76ers were a strong 55.7% (49-for-88) from the field in Game 2. They were just 42.9% (9-for-21) from long distance, while misfiring six times on 19 free-throw attempts at 68.4%. That problem was masked by a dismal 2-for-22 shooting night from long distance for Washington. That’s just 9.1%.

76ers at Wizards: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

76ers 117, Wizards 106

Money line (ML)

The 76ers (-250) will cost you two and a half times your potential return. While they seem like a certainty to win, that’s just too much to risk for such little return. Over the long haul that’s not a winning betting strategy.

AVOID and look to the spread.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

The 76ERS -6.5 (-110) are a much better play laying the 6.5 points than playing straight up, regardless of the triple-double machine Westbrook’s health status. Philly narrowly missed a cover in Game 1, but it comfortably connected for bettors of the favorite in Game 2. Expect more of the same Saturday.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 227.5 (-105) is the lean here and worth a small-unit play. The Wizards lost Westbrook to an ankle issue, and they were just awful from behind the arc in Game 2. If they do not show vast improvement, then hitting even triple digits in the score column will be a chore with or without Westbrook.

Washington Wizards at Philadelphia 76ers odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Sunday’s Washington Wizards at Philadelphia 76ers Game 1 NBA odds and lines, with basketball picks, tips and predictions.

The 8-seed Washington Wizards stop by Wells Fargo Center Sunday to play the host, 1-seed Philadelphia 76ers, in Game 1 of their Eastern Conference First Round playoff series. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Wizards-76ers odds and lines, with NBA picks and predictions.

Washington earned its playoff berth via play-in tournament after losing in the 7- vs. 8-seed matchup with the Boston Celtics but went on to crush the 9-seed Indiana Pacers 142-115 the “loser goes home” game Thursday.

The Wizards have an All-NBA-caliber backcourt featuring the NBA’s second-leading scorer Bradley Beal (31.3 points per game) and walking triple-double Russell Westbrook (22.2 points, 11.5 rebounds and 11.7 assists per game).

Philly ended its regular-season campaign with back-to-back wins over the Orlando Magic and is 7-2 this month (5-4 against the spread).

This season, the Sixers were powered by their defense (second in defensive rating) and MVP finalist Joel Embiid who averaged 28.5 points and 10.6 rebounds per game.

The Sixers won all three regular-season meetings with the Wizards and has beaten them in five straight, but Washington covered two of three meetings with Philly this season.

Wizards at 76ers: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

76ers 121, Wizards 117

Money line (ML)

PASS even though I’m going to take Washington plus the points because there are too many “strength on weakness” edges for Philly in this series.

For instance, the Sixers force the second-highest rate of turnovers and are second in FTA/FG rate while the Wizards give up the fifth-most points off of turnovers per game and have the third-worst defensive FTA/FG rate.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

I’m going to back the more revved-up team who has played in recent must-win games and BET the WIZARDS +7.5 (-110) for 1 unit.

Washington obviously just played in the two play-in tournament games, its regular-season finale was with the 10th-place Charlotte Hornets for play-in seeding.

On the other hand, Philly hasn’t played a meaningful game all month with the exception of a road game against the Miami Heat on May 13.

For instance, the Wizards has several impressive victories such as vs. the Los Angeles Lakers (twice), Utah Jazz (twice), Brooklyn Nets, Phoenix Suns and Denver Nuggets.

Lastly, Washington has covered three of four and five of the last seven meetings with Philly.

Over/Under (O/U)

“LEAN” to the OVER 228.5 (-110) for a half unit because both teams like to get out on transition and excel at getting to the charity stripe.

For example, I’ve already mentioned Philly’s second-highest FTA/FG rate but Washington is third. Also, Philly is third in fast-break points per game and Washington is first in pace.

Play-in tournament: Indiana Pacers at Washington Wizards odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Thursday’s Indiana Pacers at Washington Wizards odds and lines, with NBA picks, tips and predictions.

The Indiana Pacers (35-38) and Washington Wizards (34-39) face each other in a Eastern Conference play-in game Thursday at Capital One Arena in Washington. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Pacers vs. Wizards odds and lines, with NBA picks and predictions.

The Pacers routed the visiting Charlotte Hornets by a 144-117 score as 1.5-point favorites Tuesday as the Over connected. Indiana went 0-3 SU/1-2 ATS, failing to cover in two trips to D.C.

The Wizards are looking to push past the Pacers and move along to secure the eighth seed and a date with the No. 1 Philadelphia 76ers. If they are able to beat Indiana again, it will likely be a high-scoring game, as the Over hit in each of the three regular-season meetings.

Pacers at Wizards: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Wizards 126, Pacers 121

Money line (ML)

The WIZARDS (-155) are moderate favorites and worth a look on the money line if you just want to make a stress-free pick and not worry about covering the spread. Washington was one of the hottest teams in the NBA down the stretch winning 17 of its final 23 games.

Washington wasn’t very hot in their play-in loss to the Boston Celtics, however, falling 118-100 Tuesday. They will look to bounce back against a team they have dominated this season.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

The WIZARDS -3.5 (-105) are worth a look to win by at least two buckets, as they covered each of the two regular-season meetings in Capital One Arena against the Pacers +3.5 (-115) this season.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 236.5 (-110) is the play despite the super high line. Neither of these teams pay much attention on the defensive end, and they can fill it up on offense with the best of them.

Indiana is averaging 115.3 PPG to rank 6th on offense, and they have allowed 115.3 PPG to rank 25th on defense. Washington posted 116.6 PPG to rank 3rd in offense, and they were dead-last in defense with 118.5 PPG allowed. Look for plenty of points.

Behind SG Bradley Beal‘s 31.3 points per game and PG Russell Westbrook averaging a triple-double, they closed out the season by winning 15 of their final 20 games. They lost two of three games against the Celtics this season.

The Celtics faded down the stretch with a number of injuries to key players like SG Jaylen Brown out due to injury. They lost five of their last six games and went 4-9 in their final 13 games.

Wizards at Celtics: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Wizards 125, Celtics 120

Money line (ML)

The Celtics won two of the three games between the two teams during the regular season and both wins were in Boston. Washington was 15-21 on the road and Boston was 21-15 at home. Washington went 8-6 in its last 14 road games while Boston went 2-4 in its final six home games.

Take the WIZARDS (+110).

Against the spread (ATS)

Washington finished the season 41-30-1 ATS and covered the spread in eight of its final 11 games.

Boston was 33-38-1 ATS and went 3-6 ATS in the final nine games.

Take WIZARDS +2 (-110).

Over/Under (O/U)

The Wizards scored 115 or more points in 20 straight games and 120 or more points in eight of their last 10 games.

The Celtics are hot or cold. In their last seven games, they scored more than 120 points four times and fewer than 100 points in each of the other three. The Wizards are 6-4 O/U in their last 10 games.

With the stakes high, both teams will put up points.

Take OVER 232.5 POINTS (-110).

Charlotte Hornets at Washington Wizards odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Sunday’s Charlotte Hornets at Washington Wizards NBA odds and lines, with basketball picks, tips and predictions.

The Charlotte Hornets (33-38) visit Capital One Arena for a pivotal regular-season finale against the host Washington Wizards (33-38). Tip-off is at 1 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Hornets-Wizards odds and lines, with NBA picks and predictions.

Charlotte has lost four straight games and five of its past six while going 2-4 against the spread to put itself in the position of needing to beat Washington to have two chances of clinching a playoff berth in the play-in tournament.

Washington won three of its past five games (3-1-1 ATS) with the only losses coming by a combined 5 points in a back-to-back with the Atlanta Hawks.

The Hornets are going for the season sweep of the Wizards as they won and covered each of the first two head-to-head meetings.

Hornets at Wizards: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Wizards 121, Hornets 114

Money line (ML)

PASS because Washington is the play but the Wizards (-275) are a little out of my price range for an NBA regular-season favorite even if it’s the final game of the season.

Against the spread (ATS)

Since the beginning of April, these teams have been going in opposite directions and the WIZARDS -6.5 (-110) have been playing like one of the better teams in the league.

Washington is 16-9 while Charlotte is 9-16 with the 25th-ranked net rating since April 1st. While results in sports aren’t based on what should happen, the Wizards are a lot more deserving of the Eastern Conference’s 8-seed than the Hornets.

The main factor for this is Charlotte’s injury issues, but the Wizards struggled through the early part of their season because of COVID-19 complications and their own injuries.

I’m drafting Washington’s momentum and BETTING the WIZARDS -6.5 (-110) for a half unit only because I like the total as much as the side in this matchup.

Over/Under (O/U)

“LEAN” to the OVER 228.5 (-115) for a half unit because I envision the Wizards upping the tempo of this game and the Hornets being able to keep up the scoring on Washington’s poor defense.

The Wizards play at the fastest pace in the NBA and are 20th by defensive rating, but the Hornets are ninth in 3-point attempts per game and 19th in defensive rating.

Washington Wizards at Atlanta Hawks odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Wednesday’s Washington Wizards at Atlanta Hawks NBA odds and lines, with basketball picks, tips and predictions.

After squaring off Monday night, the Washington Wizards (32-37) and Atlanta Hawks (38-31) will battle once again Wednesday. Tip-off at State Farm Arena will be at 7 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Wizards-Hawks odds and lines, with NBA picks and predictions.

The Wizards have a chance to clinch a spot in the play-in tournament Wednesday with a win over the Hawks. They’re currently the 10th seed in the Eastern Conference and are three games ahead of the 11th-place Chicago Bulls. Washington fell by a 125-124  to the Hawks Monday, snapping a two-game winning streak.

The Hawks already clinched a playoff berth and are fourth in the Eastern Conference, owning the same record as the Miami Heat and New York Knicks. They’re three games ahead of the Boston Celtics, who are currently seventh.

Atlanta won four of its last five games and scored at least 123 points in each of its last four.

Wizards at Hawks: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated 12:45 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: Wizards +220 (bet $100 to win $220) | Hawks -275 (bet $275 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Wizards +6.5 (-110) | Hawks -6.5 (-110)
  • Over/Under: 238.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Wizards at Hawks: Key injuries

Wizards

  • SG Bradley Beal (hamstring) out

Hawks

  • SG Kevin Huerter (hip) probable
  • SF Tony Snell (Achilles) questionable
  • SF De’Andre Hunter (knee) out
  • SF Cam Reddish (Achilles) out

Wizards at Hawks: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Hawks 123, Wizards 120

Money line (ML)

The Hawks have played well over their last five games, winning four of them and covering the spread three times. They have clinched a playoff berth so resting players is a possibility, but their seed can range from No. 4 to 6 depending on how they finish the year.

I like the Hawks to win this one outright, but I’m going to PASS on the money line because I think it’ll be close.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

Incredibly, the Wizards are 13-3-1 ATS over their last 17 games, including an impressive stretch of 6-1-1 in their last eight. They won’t have Beal but PG Russell Westbrook is on a tear and is averaging a triple-double.

With Washington being the underdog, I’m taking the points. Bet the WIZARDS +6.5 (-110) to cover the spread again.

Over/Under (O/U)

In each of the Wizards’ last six games, the total has gone Over. Tonight’s line is on the higher side, predictably, with Washington scoring at least 124 points in each of its last six games and the Hawks lighting it up with at least 123 points scored in each of their last four.

Bet the OVER 238.5 (-110) despite Beal and Hunter being out.

Washington Wizards at Atlanta Hawks odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Monday’s Washington Wizards at Atlanta Hawks NBA odds and lines, with basketball picks, tips and predictions.

The Atlanta Hawks (37-31) host the Washington Wizards (32-36) Monday at State Farm Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Wizards-Hawks odds and lines, with NBA picks and predictions.

Washington has won back-to-back games and seven of the last 10 (7-2-1 against the spread) and the three losses were by a combined five points.

The Wizards’ two victories over the Indiana Pacers last week propelled them to ninth in the Eastern Conference and are 1 game back of the 8-seed Charlotte Hornets.

Seeds 7-10 participate in the postseason play-in tournament but the seventh- and eighth-place teams need to win one game while seeds nine and 10 need to win two straight.

Atlanta had its three-game winning streak snapped in a 133-126 road loss to the Pacers and is 5-5 overall in the last 10 games (5-5 ATS).

The 5-seed Hawks are ahead of the Miami Heat because of a tiebreaker and 2 games in front of the 7-seed Boston Celtics.

Atlanta smoked Washington in the first meeting this season 116-100 as 3-point road favorites.

Wizards at Hawks: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 11:30 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Wizards +260 (bet $100 to win $260) | Hawks -350 (bet $350 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Wizards +7.5 (-110) | Hawks -7.5 (-110)
  • Over/Under: 236.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Wizards at Hawks: Key injuries

Wizards

  • SG Bradley Beal (hamstring) out

Hawks

  • SF De’Andre Hunter (knee) questionable
  • SF Tony Snell (ankle) questionable
  • SG Cam Reddish (Achilles) out

Wizards at Hawks: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Hawks 129, Wizards 119

Money line (ML)

PASS because Atlanta beat Washington pretty comfortably in the first meeting and the Wizards had both Beal and Russell Westbrook in the starting 5.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

“LEAN” to the HAWKS -7.5 (-110) for 1 unit because Atlanta has the edge in the frontcourt, backcourt, and a couple of “strength vs. weakness” factors are in Atlanta’s favor.

For instance, Trae Young has played very well against Westbrook in their four career meetings. Young is averaging 27.8 points per game on .485/.467/.868 shooting with 7.8 assists per game in those contests.

One of the main pillars of Young’s game is his ability to get to the foul line, which is an area of weakness for Washington.

In fact, the Wizards have the third-highest defensive FTA/FG rate and the Hawks are second in FTA/FG rate as a team.

Also, C Clint Capela has been a dominant rebounding and shot-blocking force in the middle for the Hawks this season. Capela leads the Association in rebounding rate, which is a big reason Atlanta scores the fourth-most second-chance points per game.

On the other side, Washington is 23rd in second-chance points allowed per game and 20th in defensive rebounding rate.

Over/Under (O/U)

“LEAN” to the OVER 236.5 (-110) for a half unit since I believe Beal’s absence gives the Over a little value.

Washington should play less half-court offense with Beal sidelined and more uptempo to keep up with Atlanta’s offense. The Wizards already play at the fastest pace in the league and give up the most points per game.

Also, it’s telling that this Wizards-Hawks total is 236.5, the previous meeting’s total was 235.5 and, with both teams fully healthy, it went Under by 19 points. Bookmakers see the pace picking up this time around and the pace is the biggest factor in scoring.
