3 thoughts: Warriors blast Mavericks to take 1-0 lead in Western Conference Finals

Here’s a look at three thoughts from Golden State’s dominant win over Dallas in Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals.

Behind a fast start from Andrew Wiggins and Kevon Looney, the Golden State Warriors ran away with Game 1 against the Dallas Mavericks and never looked back.

After the Mavericks were able to cut the lead to nine before halftime, the Warriors opened the second half with a furious 10-2 run behind a pair of haymaker triples from Steph Curry. Golden State’s fiery third quarter helped extend their advantage to 19 points before the start of the fourth quarter. Golden State added 10 straight unanswered points to start the final period.

Although Curry led Golden State in scoring with 21 points on 7-of-16 shooting from the floor, six other members of the Warriors tallied double-figures in scoring on the way to a dominant 112-87 win in Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals.

Along with a collective offensive performance, Golden State’s defense stepped up, limiting Dallas to 87 points on a cold 36% from the field and 22.9% from beyond the arc.

Below are three more thoughts from the Warriors’ performance in Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals against the Mavericks. After eliminating the Nikola Jokic’s Denver Nuggets and the Memphis Grizzlies in the first two rounds of the postseason, the Golden State Warriors are one of just four teams remaining in the NBA playoffs.

Injury Report: Warriors’ Klay Thompson, Moses Moody questionable vs. Mavs on Thursday

Warriors guards Klay Thompson (illness) and Moses Moody (eye) are listed as questionable for Thursday’s contest in Dallas.

After missing Klay Thompson for two games, the Golden State Warriors could be getting back their five-time All-Star shooting guard before meeting the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday.

Thompson missed Golden State’s back-to-back losses against the Mavs and Minnesota Timberwolves due to a general illness. Thompson missed the open of the Warriors’ four-game road swing on Tuesday and joined the team for practice on Wednesday in Dallas.

Although he’s listed as questionable with an illness, Thompson told reporters at practice he would play on Thursday against the Mavericks.

Similar to Thompson, Moses Moody is also listed as questionable on Thursday against the Mavericks with an eye contusion. After a collision with Karl-Anthony Towns in the first quarter against the Timberwolves, Moody was ruled out for the remainder of the contest. Following the Warriors’ loss to the Timberwolves, Steve Kerr revealed Moody’s eye was swollen shut from his collision with Towns.

Despite his swollen eye, Moody was back on the floor for practice with the team on Wednesday in Dallas.

The Warriors are slated to tip-off against the Mavericks on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. PT at the American Airlines Center in Dallas.

After the Warriors cruised to a blowout victory over the red-hot Mavs, NBA Twitter chimed in with a flurry of different reactions. Here’s a look at what fans and analysts were saying on Tuesday night.

Heading into Tuesday’s contest, the Dallas Mavericks have recorded a victory in 10 of their last 12 games, including a victory over the Memphis Grizzlies on Sunday.

However, the red-hot Mavericks ran into a roadblock on Tuesday against the Golden State Warriors.

Behind seven different double-figure scoring efforts, the Warriors’ ice-cold offense woke up against the Mavericks on the way to a blowout victory at San Francisco’s Chase Center, 130-92.

Steph Curry and Klay Thompson combined for 33 points with five triples to help fuel Golden State’s offense. Jordan Poole added 17 points off the bench on 6-of-10 shooting from the floor with three assists and two boards in 26 minutes.

Rookie Jonathan Kuminga led the way for the Warriors, scoring a team-high 22 points on 8-of-9 shooting from the field with four 3-pointers. The 19-year-old capped off the Warriors’ victory with an explosive highlight-reel dunk in the fourth quarter.

3 things to know: Mavs survive thrilling battle between Luka Doncic and Steph Curry, 134-132

Despite Steph Curry’s 57 points, the Dallas Mavericks survived the Golden State Warriors by two points behind Luka Doncic’s 42 points.

In the second part of the Golden State Warriors’ two-game “baseball” series against the Dallas Mavericks, the battle between Steph Curry and Luka Donic lived up to the hype.

Curry tallied a game-high 57 points on 19-of-31 shooting from the field in 37 minutes. The Warriors point guard caught fire from beyond the arc, drilling 11 triples on 19 attempts from beyond the arc. Curry added five assists, two rebounds and two steals against Dallas. However, it wasn’t enough.

Doncic was able to keep pace with the two-time Most Valuable Player, scoring 42 points on 12-of-23 shooting from the field, including seven 3-pointers. Doncic registered a double-double with 11 assists against the Warriors.

With the All-Star guards trading shots wire-to-wire, the contest came down to the final minutes. A missed out-of-bounds call at the baseline from Kristaps Porzingis led to a Doncic 3-pointer with 44.5 seconds remaining to give Dallas a seven-point lead. Although Curry was able to answer with a triple of his own, the Mavericks were able to hold on late for a two-point victory after a dagger 3-pointer from Maxi Kleber, 134-132.

Slow Start

Throughout the year, the Warriors have struggled to stay consistent in the first quarter of contests. In Dallas on Saturday, the Warriors didn’t answer the opening quarter horn. Through the first seven minutes, the Warriors fell down 18-2 against the Mavericks.

Although the Warriors were able to cut the Mavs’ lead to only four points by the start of the second quarter, slow starts have continued to plague Golden State throughout the young season.

Kent Bazemore

Kent Bazemore logged an impressive performance off the bench on Saturday night, scoring a season-high 20 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the field. The veteran guard provided a much-needed spark off the bench for Steve Kerr, adding three boards, an assists and a steal in 23 minutes. Bazemore has tallied double figures in scoring in two of the last three games for the Warriors.

Even with a fully healthy rotation, the Warriors could use a consistent scoring threat off the bench. Bazemore could be developing into the answer.

Draymond Green

Although he only scored two points, Draymond Green made his presence felt on Saturday night. On top of dishing out 15 assists for the second consecutive game, the former Defensive Player of the Year added six boards, six steals and four blocks in 37 minutes.

As long as James Wiseman, Kevon Looney and Eric Paschall deal with injuries, Kerr will need to lean on Green for his defense and playmaking in Golden State’s thin frontcourt.

Warriors vs. Mavs: Live stream, lineups, broadcast info, rookie watch, previous result, start time on Feb. 6

After recording a blowout victory in Dallas on Thursday, the Warriors will run it back against the Mavs on Saturday. Here’s everything you need to know before tipoff.

Despite injuries to James Wiseman, Kevon Looney and Eric Paschall, the limited lineup of only nine active players produced one of the Golden State Warriors’ top efforts of the season in a blowout 147-116 win over the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday night.

With seven different members of the Warriors scoring in double-figures, Kelly Oubre Jr. led the way with an explosive career-high 40 points on 14-of-21 shooting from the field in 36 minutes against Luka Doncic and the Mavs. Steph Curry followed Oubre Jr. with another solid effort, scoring 28 points on 4-of-10 shooting from the field with six assists. While Oubre and Curry handled the scoring, Draymond Green helped move the ball, dishing 15 of Golden State’s 37 assists in Dallas.

As the second leg of a two-contest “baseball series” in Texas is slated for Saturday, the Warriors won’t have to wait long to run it back against the Mavericks.

Before the sports world shifts attention to the big game in Tampa Bay on Sunday, here is how to watch or stream the contest and everything else you need to know about the matchup between Golden State and Dallas on Saturday.

Injury Report: Eric Paschall ruled out vs. Mavericks, Juan Toscano-Anderson to start

With Eric Paschall, Kevon Looney and James Wiseman ruled out against the Mavericks, Juan Toscano-Anderson will start on Thursday in Dallas.

On Tuesday, Eric Paschall will join James Wiseman and Kevon Looney on the injury report in Dallas. The sophomore forward has been ruled out against the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday night with right knee soreness.

Prior to tip-off in Dallas, Steve Kerr told reporters Paschall had a clean MRI on his knee after dealing with some swelling. The 25-year-old is considered day-to-day going forward. In 20 games, Paschall is averaging 10 points on 48.1% shooting from the field with 2.9 rebounds and 1.4 assists per contest.

The Warriors will have a limited bench with only nine active players against Dallas. With a trio of Warriors injured, Juan Toscano-Anderson is slated to start alongside Draymond Green in the frontcourt.

Toscano-Anderson entered the game after Looney exited against the Boston Celtics on Tuesday, tallying 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field with a pair of rebounds in 27 minutes.
