Draymond Green, Klay Thompson not overreacting to Warriors’ Game 1 loss

Draymond Green and Klay Thompson didn’t overreact after the Warriors dropped Game 1 of the NBA Finals at home to the Boston Celtics.

After a red-hot start by Steph Curry, the Golden State Warriors looked like they were close to cruising to a 1-0 lead in the 2022 NBA Finals against the Boston Celtics.

Behind a barrage of early triples from Curry, the Warriors held a 12-point advantage heading into the final frame of Game 1. While a victory was only 12 minutes away, the Warriors went quiet as the Celtics turned the tide of the game.

With Derrick White, Jaylen Brown and Al Horford firing, the Celtics stormed to a comeback with a fierce fourth-quarter performance. Boston outscored Golden State 40-16 in the fourth quarter to steal Game 1 of the NBA Finals, 120-108.

Despite their collapse in Game 1, Warriors guard Klay Thompson isn’t overreacting to the letdown loss.

ViaĀ @NBCSWarriorsĀ on Twitter:

Well, you know, it’s first to four, not first to one, and we all have been through situations like this. And we realize that it will take — it’s going to be very hard. Best part about it is we have another opportunity Sunday.

Thompson registered 15 points on 6-of-14 shooting from the field with three 3-pointers, three assists and two rebounds in Thursday’s Game 1 loss.

Green similarly shared his teammate’s thoughts on trailing 1-0 in the Finals. Golden State’s defensive captain said the Game 1 loss hasn’t hit the Warriors’ confidence and they will embrace the defeat.

No, it’s fine. You get a chance to do something else, do it in a different way, embrace the challenge. We’ve always embraced challenges. It’s no different. We’ll embrace this one. So no, it’s not a hit to the confidence at all, not one bit.

During Game 1, Green tallied four points on 2-of-12 shooting from the field with 11 boards, five assists and two steals in 38 minutes against the Celtics on Thursday.

Thompson, Green and the Warriors will have the chance to respond on the court on Sunday in the Bay Area. With the Celtics holding a 1-0 lead, Game 2 is set for 5 p.m. PT on Sunday at San Francisco’s Chase Center.

NBA Finals Preview: 5 key questions for Celtics vs. Warriors with Celtics Wire’s Justin Quinn

Before the Game 1 between the Warriors and Celtics, @justinquinnn of @TheCelticsWire stopped by to answer five key questions to preview the NBA Finals.

The stage is set.

The Golden State Warriors will soon meet the Boston Celtics to decide the winner of the 2022 NBA Finals. While these pair of storied teams boast decorated resumes with star power like Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown and Marcus Smart, the Celtics and Warriors have played only twice during the 2021-22 regular season.

During both of those games, there were crucial injuries and different storylines that made a significant impact on the results. Before the Finals, how the Celtics and Warriors will look in a series against each other is still a bit of a mystery.

To help get a better understanding of the Celtics, Justin Quinn of USA TODAY’s Celtics Wire stopped by Warriors Wire to preview the series with five key questions before Game 1 of the NBA Finals.

Warriors vs. Celtics: Watch all the highlights from the 2021-22 regular-season matchups before the NBA Finals

Before the NBA Finals, watch all the highlights from the two regular-season matchups between the Warriors and Celtics.

The Golden State Warriors are just four victories away from returning to the NBA’s throne as league champions.

Before Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green will get the chance to hoist another Larry O’Brien trophy, the Warriors will have to go through the Boston Celtics in the 2022 edition of the NBA Finals.

After eliminating the defending champion Milwaukee Bucks in seven games, the Celtics are coming off another win in Game 7 by Eastern Conference finals MVP Jayson Tatum.

During the regular season, Tatum’s Celtics met the Warriors twice with each team taking home a victory on the road in the series. During their first battle in December 2021, the 14-14 Celtics were beat by the Warriors at TD Garden behind 30 points from Curry. Andrew Wiggins added 27 points in Golden State’s 111-107 win over Boston.

In final regular-season battle, the Celtics got revenge. Despite 29 points from Jordan Poole, the Celtics cruised to blowout 111-88 win at San Francisco’s Chase Center. Tatum and Jaylen Brown led the Celtics with 26 points each while Marcus Smart tacked on 20 points.

Although the Celtics secured the win, the story of the game was Steph Curry’s injury. Curry left the contest in the second quarter after he appeared to suffer a foot injury after scrambling for a loose ball with Smart. Curry went on to miss the remaining 12 regular season games with a ligament injury in his foot.
