Injury Report: Warriors’ Steph Curry (rest) and six other key players out on Saturday vs. Raptors

On the second leg of a road back-to-back, the Warriors will be without several key players on Saturday against the Raptors.

After a tight win over the Boston Celtics on Friday, the Golden State Warriors will travel North to end a four-game road swing with a tilt against the Toronto Raptors on the second leg of a back-to-back.

To close their road trip, the Warriors will boast a unique rotation against the Raptors. Prior to the matchup, the Warriors have ruled several key players out, including Steph Curry, Draymond Green and Andrew Wiggins.

Heading into Saturday’s contest, the Warriors’ extensive injury report looks like this:

  • Steph Curry – Out – Rest
  • Draymond Green – Out – Right Hip Tightness
  • Andre Iguodala – Out – Right Knee Injury Management
  • Jordan Poole – Out – Health and Safety Protocols
  • Otto Porter Jr. – Out – Left Foot Injury Management
  • Andrew Wiggins – Out – Left Knee Soreness

With six players ruled out, including four starters, here is a look at the players that Steve Kerr will have to pick from on Saturday against the Raptors:

  • Guards: Damion Lee, Gary Payton II, Chris Chiozza (two-way contract), Moses Moody (rookie), Jeff Dowtin Jr. (two-way contract)
  • Forwards: Jonathan Kuminga (rookie), Juan Toscano-Anderson, Nemanja Bjelica
  • Center: Kevon Looney

While Kevon Looney is a lock to start at center, the rest of Golden State’s lineup could be a mystery until tipoff. Moses Moody drew the start yesterday against the Boston Celtics in place of Jordan Poole. Juan Toscano-Anderson and Gary Payton II have each started one game this season.

Without their three leading scorers, the Warriors will need to find a way to score on Saturday in Toronto. Damion Lee will be a candidate to lead Golden State’s offense, averaging 7.8 points on 41.4% shooting from the field. Lee has scored in double-figures in nine games this season, including one 20 point performance.

Outside of starters, the Warriors will have three players off the bench against the Raptors.

After Saturday’s contest, the Warriors will get Sunday off before heading back to the Bay Area for a game against the Sacramento Kings on Monday at Chase Center.

Injury Report: Warriors rule out Steph Curry, Draymond Green, Andre Iguodala and Otto Porter Jr. vs. Pistons on Friday

To close their road trip, the Warriors will be without Steph Curry, Draymond Green, Andre Iguodala and Otto Porter Jr. vs. the Pistons.

To end a four-game road swing, the Golden State Warriors will be without four key contributors on Friday against the Detroit Pistons.

After a fiery comeback on Thursday against the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Warriors have ruled out Steph Curry, Draymond Green, Andre Iguodala and Otto Porter Jr. against the Pistons.

Curry is coming off 37- and 40-point scoring performances in Golden State’s previous two games on the road trip with nine 3-pointers in each game. Curry is being ruled out with a left hip contusion. Curry was injured while attempting to take a charge against Brooklyn Nets guard James Harden on Tuesday.

The Warriors are likely being extra cautious with Curry before opening a three-game homestand that consists of matchups with the Toronto Raptors, Portland Trail Blazers and the Philadelphia 76ers.

With Curry out, Jordan Poole and Andrew Wiggins will lead Golden State’s offense against the Pistons on Friday. Gary Payton II, Damion Lee, Moses Moody and Chris Chiozza could see an extended role in the backcourt against Cade Cunningham and the Pistons.

Green will miss Friday’s game with a right thigh contusion. Porter Jr. has been listed as sitting because of left foot injury management. For the second consecutive game, Iguodala has been ruled out. Iguodala missed Thursday’s game with a rest day; he has been listed with right knee soreness on Friday.

Steve Kerr will likely empty his bench with four core players out of the rotation against the Pistons. The No. 7 pick in the 2021 NBA draft, Jonathan Kuminga, could see his season-high in minutes on Friday night.

Tipoff is set for 4 p.m. PT on Friday in Detroit.

Injury Report: Kevon Looney (hip soreness) ruled out for the next 3 weeks

The Golden State Warriors will be without their veteran center for three weeks.

In an injury-riddled season, Kevon Looney played one of his best games of the year in the Golden State Warriors comeback win over the Phoenix Suns.

The UCLA product recorded 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting with six rebounds and three assists in 15 minutes. Since scoring in double-figures against the Suns, Looney missed the next three contests for the Warriors with hip soreness.

Looney’s absence from Golden State will continue to grow as the Warriors have officially ruled out their veteran center for the next three weeks.

After experiencing “ongoing symptoms,” Looney’s hip will be re-evaluated on March 28. Looney has missed 39 games this season with a neuropathic condition, abdominal and hip soreness. The Golden State center will miss at least the next nine games before being re-evaluated.

Without Looney, Golden State will lean heavily on breakout center Marquese Chriss. Dragan Bender and Alen Smailagic will be options for the frontcourt off the bench for Steve Kerr.

Injury Update: Steph Curry practices with G League Santa Cruz Warriors

Before he returns from injury, Stephen Curry spent time practicing with the G League Santa Cruz Warriors.

It’s been a long process, but it looks like Stephen Curry‘s return from injury is nearing. The Golden State Warriors’ point guard has missed a majority of the 2019-20 season due to a hand injury. Still, he could be on his way back as the calendar flips to March.

Curry’s checked off a bevy of steps during his broken hand rehab. The injured two-time Most Valuable Player has been traveling with the Warriors on the road, participating in practice and full-contact scrimmages. Curry has also been suiting up to go through his pregame shooting routine before the Warriors take the court.

One of the final steps in his rehab led Curry on a day trip to Santa Cruz. The six-time All-Star was assigned to Golden State’s NBA G League affiliate in Santa Cruz for a day of practice.

Curry went through scrimmages with the Santa Cruz squad to build up his rhythm and conditioning before getting back to game action with Golden State. When the 5-on-5 scrimmage was over, Curry went through shooting drills.

After practice was over in Santa Cruz, the Warriors quickly recalled Curry back to the NBA club.

There has yet to be a confirmed date for the Davidson product’s official return to the floor. However, the next available option could be Thursday when the defending champion Toronto Raptors travel to San Francisco.

Injury Report: Jordan Poole to play vs. Wizards, 3 Warriors questionable

After missing the Warriors win against the Phoenix Suns, Jordan Poole is cleared to play with the Washington Wizards in town.

Stephen Curry will not be available against the Washington Wizards as his return from a broken hand injury has been postponed. For the Golden State Warriors, Curry is not the only player injured with Washington in town.

A trio of players were ruled out against the Phoenix Suns on Saturday night, giving Golden State an eight-man bench. However, the Warriors slim rotation didn’t matter as the team fought back from an 18 point deficit to snap Golden State’s eight-game losing streak.

The Warriors did not have a true point guard against the Suns, with Damion Lee getting the primary duties as ball-handler. Against the Wizards, Jordan Poole is expected to return from his one-game absence due to an ankle injury.

Prior to being injured, the Michigan Wolverine product started the past four games at point guard for Steve Kerr, averaging 15.8 points on 45.6 % shooting from the field, while dishing 4.4 assists per contest. Without Curry and Ky Bowman, Golden State’s rookie should get a bulk of the minutes at point guard against Bradley Beal and the Wizards.

Although Poole is will be back in the rotation, three members of Golden State’s frontcourt are listed as questionable with the Wizards in San Francisco.

Draymond Green has missed three of the Warriors’ past four games due to injury and will be a game-time decision against the Wizards, according to Wes Goldberg of the Mercury News.

Recently, Green has missed two games with a pelvic contusion and was ruled out against the Suns with a sore knee.

Adding to the Warriors list of ailments, Alen Smailagic and Kevon Looney are both dealing with injuries against Washington. Looney is coming off his second double-digit scoring effort of the season, but is questionable with left hip soreness in the second game of a back-to-back.

Smailagic was called up from the Warriors G League affiliate in Santa Cruz as Golden State deals with injuries across their roster. Yet, the Serbian rookie is dealing with a right quad contusion and is questionable against Washington.

With three members of Golden State’s rotation questionable, Eric Paschall and Dragan Bender will be in line for heavy minutes against the Wizards.

Injury Report: Warriors will be without trio of players vs. Suns

Steve Kerr will be without three of his offensive ball-handling options against the Phoenix Suns.

Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson aren’t the only members of the Golden State Warriors dealing with injuries. The Warriors will be without three players against the Phoenix Suns, limiting their roster to only eight members.

Jordan Poole, Ky Bowman and Draymond Green will all be out against the Suns due to injury. Poole is dealing with a right ankle sprain that he suffered when rolling his ankle against the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday night. The rookie has been flourishing as Golden State’s starting point guard over the past several games.

Another Warriors rookie sprained his right ankle when the Lakers were in San Francisco. Bowman went to the locker room with under two minutes remaining against the Lakers. An MRI revealed Bowman suffered a lateral ankle sprain that will be “monitored over the next few days,” according to the Warriors.

Outside of Golden State’s two backcourt rookies, the Warriors’ former Defensive Player of the Year will also be out against Devin Booker and the Suns. Green has only played 10 minutes in the Warriors’ last three contests. Green was ejected against the Lakers and missed the previous two games due to a pelvic contusion. Green will be out with left knee soreness against the Suns, his 15th game missed due to injury this season.

Without their trio of injured players, the Warriors will start Damion Lee, Andrew Wiggins, Dragan Bender and Marquese Chriss against the Suns, according to Anthony Slater of The Athletic.

Injury Report: Ky Bowman (ankle) will get MRI, won’t travel on trip to Phoenix

Warriors rookie Ky Bowman will get an MRI after injuring his ankle against the Los Angeles Lakers.

On the outside, it may look like the Golden State Warriors injury issues are coming to an end with the return of Stephen Curry nearing. However, a bevy of new injuries are piling up in Golden State.

Andrew Wiggins was a late scratch against the Los Angeles Lakers with upper back spasms, nixing one starter from Steve Kerr’s rotation before the game began.

Late into the Warriors 116-86 loss to the Lakers, Ky Bowman left the game with an apparent injury. Bowman’s Golden State teammates had to assist him off the court and into the locker room.

After the game, Kerr spoke to reporters about the severity of Bowman’s injury.

Via Warriors SoundCloud:

Ky rolled his ankle pretty well. It’s not going to be a day-to-day thing. He’s going to be out a little bit. He won’t go on the trip. I think he’ll get an MRI tomorrow.

Bowman has been a pleasant surprise for the Warriors, evolving from a two-way contract into a full-time player that has command of Kerr’s offense. In his rookie season, Bowman is averaging 7.3 points on 40.5 % shooting from the field while dishing 3.0 assists in 22.3 minutes per game.

Kerr confirmed the Boston College product would be out for at least Golden State’s road game against the Phoenix Suns. Without Bowman, the Warriors will feature a backcourt of Jordan Poole, Damion Lee and Mychal Mulder until Curry returns from his broken hand injury.

Injury Update: Jacob Evans suffers broken nose and concussion vs. Mavs

A scary hit to the face of Jacob Evans broke the second-year guard’s nose and gave him a concussion.

A scary collision with the Dallas Mavericks in town led to another injury on a long list of ailments that have hampered the Golden State Warriors’ season throughout the 2019-20 year.

Luka Doncic tossed Dwight Powell a lob, and on the way up, the Mavericks forward inadvertently elbowed Jacob Evans directly in the face. The Warriors’ second-year guard was down on the court for a period of time before leaving the game into the locker room.

After Golden State’s 124-97 loss to Dallas, the Warriors announced Evans was sent to the hospital for further evaluation. Before Golden State tipped off against the Denver Nuggets, Golden State announced the former Cincinnati Bearcat suffered a broken nose and a concussion in the violent collision with Powell.

Evans will now enter the NBA’s concussion protocol and will wear a protective face mask once returning to the court.

Evans is ruled out against the Nuggets and has no clear timetable on his return to the court. Evans has already missed 20 games in the 2019-20 NBA season, and that number could grow while he’s in concussion protocol.

With the Warriors going through roster turnover from his rookie season, Evans was due for an increased roll in Steve Kerr’s rotation in his sophomore year. However, injuries have hampered any form of consistency for the former first-round draft pick. Evans is averaging 4.4 points and one assist per game in 21 contests this season.

While Evans is in concussion protocol, rookie Jordan Poole will be the next guard off the bench behind D’Angelo Russell and Damion Lee.
