Studs and duds from Giants’ Week 14 win vs. Packers

Here’s a look at the studs and duds (and studly duds) from a 24-22 win for the New York Giants against the Green Bay Packers in Week 14.

The New York Giants rallied with under 2:00 remaining on Monday night to defeat the Green Bay Packers, 24-22, in a game that kept their NFC Playoff hopes very much alive.

Now at 5-8, the Giants are just one game back of the final wildcard spot with two teams — New Orleans Saints and Los Angeles Rams — ahead of them remaining on the schedule.

Who could have seen all this coming just one month ago?

Here is a look at some of the studs and duds (and studly duds) from the Week 14 victory.

Tommy DeVito’s confidence, swag helped fuel Giants in primetime stunner

The New York Giants believed because QB Tommy DeVito believed, and then the “stone-cold killer” delivered a massive upset of the Packers.

The New York Giants bid adieu to their primetime curse on Monday night, defeating the Green Bay Packers, 24-22, on a walk-off field goal as time expired.

The 37-yard Randy Bullock boot game after rookie quarterback Tommy DeVito orchestrated an eight-play, 57-yard drive with just 1:33 remaining.

The Packers had regained the lead after picking up a rare Saquon Barkley fumble and then punching the ball in on a short Jordan Love pass, but the Giants never wavered. They followed the lead of their quarterback, who was calm, cool, and collected in the biggest moment of his life.

“Just go win the football game,” DeVito said of his thinking as he took the field on that final drive. “Go execute a drive that we practice every day before practice, which is a two-minute drive. We do it every day, different situations. With all the practice, we have that exact situation or something very similar to it, so just go out, execute the offense and go win the game.”

Head coach Brian Daboll had a simple message for the rookie after Green Bay took the lead: Go “rip that son of a (expletive).”

As swag as ever, DeVito took that message and then delivered one of his own in the huddle.

“Let’s go win the game,” DeVito recalled telling his teammates. “It’s on us, on the offense.”

Message received. Loud and clear.

Giants-Packers Week 14: Offense, defense and special teams snap counts

The New York Giants won their Week 14 game against the Green Bay Packers. Here are the snap counts on offense, defense and special teams.

The New York Giants stunned the Green Bay Packers on Monday night, snapping their long-standing primetime curse with a game-winning field goal as time expired.

Rookie quarterback Tommy DeVito delivered his magic yet again, hitting wide receiver Wan’Dale Robinson with under 2:00 remaining in the fourth quarter on the biggest play of the game.

With the win, the Giants improve to 5-8 on the season and their three-game winning streak now has them just a single game back in the NFC Playoff hunt.

Here are the snap counts that contributed to the Giants’ most recent win.

Offensive snaps: 56
Defensive snaps: 68
Special teams snaps: 27

One year removed from ACL surgery (almost to the day), wide receiver Wan’Dale Robinson played 44 offensive snaps and arguably had the most impactful game of his career. The 180 from where he was a year ago is remarkable and the youngster deserves his due.

Despite the struggles of both Cor’Dale Flott and Darnay Holmes, rookie cornerback Tre Hawkins did not take a single defensive snap on Monday.

Meanwhile, defensive linemen A’Shawn Robinson and Rakeem Nunez-Roches, who sports an interesting helmet design, continue to split snaps in the post-Leonard Williams world.

Giants end primetime curse, stun Packers, 24-22, to keep playoff hopes alive

The New York Giants ended their primetime curse and stayed alive in the NFC Playoff hunt with a 24-22 upset of the Packers on Monday night.

The New York Giants hosted the Green Bay Packers on Monday Night Football at MetLife Stadium in a Week 14 matchup between two of the NFC’s hottest teams.

The Giants sported their ‘classic’ uniforms from their 1980s heyday under Bill Parcells and local hero Tommy DeVito started once again at quarterback.

Here’s how things turned out…

Giants-Patriots Week 12: Offense, defense and special teams snap counts

The New York Giants won their Week 12 game against the New England Patriots. Here are the snap counts on offense, defense and special teams.

The New York Giants avoided overtime and won ugly on Sunday at MetLife Stadium, taking down the New England Patriots, 10-7, for their fourth win of the year.

Remarkably, after winning two consecutive games, the Giants are still alive in the NFC playoff hunt and are now just 2.5 games back of the final spot with six weeks and five games remaining.

That still seems highly unlikely but the team does have some good vibes headed into their bye week.

Here are the snap counts that contributed to the Giants’ most recent win.

Offensive snaps: 52
Defensive snaps: 68
Special teams snaps: 23

The rotation at wide receiver continued again on Sunday with rookie Jalin Hyatt, who recorded his first career 100-yard game, and Wan’Dale Robinson seeing a bulk of the action. Rookie running back Eric Gray also saw just four total snaps in his return from injured reserve.

Defensively, seven players saw 75 percent or more of the total snaps, with five of those players receiving all 68 snaps. That’s an overwhelming workload and something the Giants have to manage over the final five games of the season.

The same could not be said for veteran cornerback Adoree’ Jackson, who did not participate for the second straight day and is unlikely to suit up against the Washington Commanders.

Giants injury report: Kayvon Thibodeaux, 2 others in concussion protocol

New York Giants LB Kayvon Thibodeaux and rookie WR Jalin Hyatt were among a trio who missed practice on Wednesday due to concussions.

The New York Giants returned to the practice field on Wednesday ahead of a Week 11 game against the Washington Commanders at FedEx Field in Landover, Maryland.

After getting a little banged up in a 49-17 loss to the Dallas Cowboys last week, all eyes were on rookie quarterback Tommy DeVito. He was a limited participant and head coach Brian Daboll announced that he will start on Sunday.

“I think he’s a good, young quarterback to work with, so you know, try to improve him this week from last week,” Daboll said.

On the downside of things, rookie wide receiver Jalin Hyatt and linebacker Kayvon Thibodeaux joined veteran cornerback Adoree’ Jackson in concussion protocol.

Nose tackle Dexter Lawrence also received his usual mid-week rest day.

The Giants’ full Wednesday injury report can be found below:

Studs and duds from Giants’ Week 9 loss vs. Raiders

Here’s a look at the studs and duds (and studly duds) from a 30-6 loss for the New York Giants against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 9.

The New York Giants managed to find a new rock bottom on Sunday, falling to the Las Vegas Raiders, 30-6, in a game that also saw quarterback Daniel Jones suffer an apparent season-ending injury.

Despite mass turnover within the Raiders organization and an unproven rookie starting at quarterback, the Giants never stood a chance. They had the doors blown off them from the opening kickoff on.

With the loss, the Giants fall to 2-7 on the season and they must now begin to turn their attention to the 2024 NFL draft.

Here’s a look at some of the studs and duds (and studly duds) from the team’s latest loss.

Giants injury report: Tyrod Taylor, Darren Waller out vs. Raiders

The New York Giants says QB Tyrod Taylor and TE Darren Waller will be out vs. the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday and may land on IR.

The New York Giants were back at practice on Thursday and for the second straight day, quarterback Daniel Jones was practicing with the first team.

Fellow quarterback Tyrod Taylor has been officially ruled out for a Week 9 game against the Las Vegas Raiders and Tommy DeVito was given the nod as the team’s No. 2.

In addition to Taylor, tight Darren Waller has been ruled out for Sunday’s game, which was expected given that he’ll miss several weeks.

Daboll implied that both Taylor and Waller could land on injured reserve (IR) in the near future.

The Giants’ full Thursday injury report can be found below:

Did not participate: TE Darren Waller (hamstring), QB Tyrod Taylor (ribs), NT Dexter Lawrence (rest)

Limited participant: OL Andrew Thomas (hamstring), OL Evan Neal (ankle), WR Wan’Dale Robinson (knee), RB Saquon Barkley (elbow), LB Kayvon Thibodeaux (back), K Graham Gano (knee)

New York Giants QB Daniel Jones returned to practice on Wednesday without limitation, while OLs Andrew Thomas and Evan Neal were limited.

The New York Giants returned to the practice field on Wednesday and as expected, quarterback Daniel Jones (neck) resumed his role with the first team unit.

Jones was officially cleared for contact on Sunday and barring any setbacks, will start against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday.

Running back Saquon Barkley, who is nursing an elbow injury, was thrilled to see his friend on the field.

“It’s just good to have another player out there with DJ, I know he’s excited. He’s played with Saquon for a bit so it’s just good to have him back,” head coach Brian Daboll told reporters.

Meanwhile, offensive tackles Andrew Thomas and Evan Neal are each inching closer to a return.
