Kamala Harris delivered a classy postgame speech to Howard after NCAA tournament loss

This was such a classy move by Vice President Kamala Harris.

The Howard men’s basketball team got a special visitor to the locker room after its 96-68 loss to the Kansas Jayhawks in the first round of the NCAA tournament.

After making history and punching its ticket to March Madness for the first time in about three decades, the No. 16 seed Howard couldn’t quite get past No. 1 seed Kansas during Thursday’s West Region game in Des Moines, Iowa.

However, Howard alumna and Vice President Kamala Harris attended Thursday’s game and visited with the Bison after the loss. She gave them words of encouragement and talked about how proud their fellow Bison were of the program.

“You played hard; you played to the very last second,” Harris told the locker room. “You made all us Bison so, so proud. You hustled out there. You are smart. You are disciplined. You put everything you had into the game.”

It’s an incredibly classy move by the vice president, and her message likely gave this locker room the encouragement it needed after such a tough defeat.

While Howard didn’t advance in the NCAA tournament, the team did get a really special moment to mark its March Madness experience.

The Bison also got an invitation from Harris for a tour of the White House, which is a pretty cool consolation prize.

Falcons name Kyle Smith VP of player personnel

On Friday, the Atlanta Falcons named Kyle Smith as the new vice president of player personnel.

On Friday, the Atlanta Falcons hired Kyle Smith as the new vice president of player personnel. Smith joins the team after spending the last decade working as a member of the Washington Football Team’s scouting department and front office.

In 2011, Smith joined Washington as a scout — a role he held for six seasons — before being promoted to the director of college personnel in 2017. After three years in that role, Washington named him the vice president of player personnel in 2020.

Smith, 36, was a wide receiver and punt returner at Youngstown State before spending time on multiple NFL practice squads. After failing to catch on with the Vikings and Buccaneers, Smith played for the NFL Europe League, the CFL and the AFL before becoming a scout.

Kyle is the son of A.J. Smith, who served as the general manager of the Chargers from 2003-2012.

Report: NFL is ‘very hesitant’ to allow players to opt out of 2020 season

Despite the growing number of coronavirus cases, the NFL is “very hesitant” to allow players to opt out of the 2020 season.

Despite the growing number of positive COVID-19 cases around the nation, the National Football league is determined to make a go of the 2020 season.

The league has announced training camps will start at the end of the month although the NFL and the NFL Players’ Association have yet to finalize the safety protocols or agree to the number of games to be played this preseason.

But with the virus spreading rapidly and camp just a few weeks away, the NFL has a new snag to deal with – possible player opt-outs.

NFLPA Vice President Sam Acho recently discussed the impending issue on SiriusXM NFL Radio.

“The league is very hesitant to have any player opt out,” Acho said via Pro Football Talk. “Their position is if the player doesn’t want to go to training camp, well that’s their decision. Obviously, fines could take a player and you could lose your starting spot, all those things could take place.

“The NFL as a league is trying to keep that from happening.”

NFL players are now looking to other sports leagues where athletes and coaches have opted out of the season due to very real safety concerns for themselves and their families and wondering why professional football players should be treated any differently.

The league now has just three weeks to iron out the details ahead of the start of training camps on July 28.
