The Vegas Golden Knights and Dallas Stars hook up for Game 5 of their best-of-7 Western Conference 1st-round series Wednesday. Puck drop from American Airlines Center is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET (ESPN). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Golden Knights vs. Stars odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

Update 12:53 p.m. ET: Vegas coach Bruce Cassidy announced G Adin Hill will start instead of G Logan Thompson, who was the projected starter when this column first ran. Odds and below suggestions have not changed due to the goalie switch.

After losing the first 2 games at home, Dallas recovered and regained home-ice advantage by taking the next 2 at Vegas, including a 4-2 victory Monday.

The Stars were -121 favorites vs. the Golden Knights, who were +109 underdogs, as the Over (5.5) cashed. Vegas RW Michael Amadio and C Jack Eichel each found the back of the net, while 4 different Golden Knights were credited with an assist.

Dallas scored in each period, including 2 in the 2nd, with 4 different players scoring and 4 different players having an assist. The Stars’ goals were tallied by RW Evgenii Dadonov, C Wyatt Johnston, C Ty Dellandrea (game-winner) and C Roope Hintz (empty-netter).

Golden Knights at Stars projected goalies

Adin Hill (19-12-2, 2.71 GAA, .909 SV%, 2 SO) vs. Jake Oettinger (35-14-4, 2.72 GAA, .905 SV%, 3 SO)

Thompson (25-14-5, 2.70 GAA, .908 SV%, 1 SO) started in net the first 4 games of the series. He gave up 3 goals apiece in 3 of the 4 games and surrendered just 1 goal in Game 2. His 2.35 GAA and .921 SV% series averages are slightly better than his season averages.

Hill played 3 games in April, last starting April 18 in a 4-1 loss at the Anaheim Ducks in the regular-season finale. He allowed 3 goals on 22 shots. For the month, Hill is 1-2-0, allowing 11 goals on 71 shots for a .845 SV% with a 3.68 GAA. He did go 2-0-0 against the Stars this season, yielding just 3 goals on 58 shots (.948 SV%) with a 1.43 GAA.

Oettinger started each game in this series and has given up 2 goals in each of the last 3 games — he allowed 4 in the opener. His 2.38 GAA and .907 SV% series averages are also slightly better than his season averages. He is 12-3 in his last 15 starts.

Golden Knights at Stars picks and predictions

Prediction

Stars 4, Golden Knights 3

Moneyline

BET STARS (-160).

While neither team has won on its home ice to this point in the series, expect the Stars to change that Wednesday. Dallas has roared back into the series after stealing back-to-back games in Vegas and has scored 3 or more goals in each of its last 2 games.

Dallas performed well on its home ice during the regular season with a 26-11-4 record, while Vegas went 18-17-6 on the road during the regular season.

Puck line/Against the spread

PASS.

There is no value on the puck line in this tight series.

Over/Under

BET OVER 5.5 (-125).

The Over has hit in 2 of the 4 games in this series with at least one side scoring 3 or more goals in each game. With both teams getting better on the attack throughout the series, more goals are to be expected. Vegas has scored 3 or more goals in 6 of its last 10 games, while Dallas has scored 3 or more goals in 6 of its last 9.

Vegas Golden Knights at Dallas Stars Game 2 odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Vegas Golden Knights at Dallas Stars odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Vegas Golden Knights and Dallas Stars meet in Game 2 of a best-of-7 Western Conference, 1st-round series Wednesday. The Golden Knights lead the series 1-0. Puck drop from American Airlines Center is set for 9:30 p.m. ET (ESPN). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Golden Knights vs. Stars odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Knights took Game 1 on the road 4-3, and they cashed 2 of our 3 bets in the process. C Jack Eichel had 2 assists but did not have a shot on goal, oddly enough. RW Mark Stone, who made a curious return to health before Game 1 of the playoffs, scored 83 seconds into the game, and the Knights were up 3-2 at the end of 1. They didn’t look back.

The Stars lost all of their Game 1s last season, including 2 at home, and they continued that trend with a slow start Monday. G Jake Oettinger made just 11 saves on 15 shots. LW Jamie Benn scored a goal and had 7 shots, and RW Jason Robertson found the back of the net.

Golden Knights at Stars projected goalies

Logan Thompson (25-14-5, 2.70 GAA, .908 SV%, 1 SO) vs. Jake Oettinger (35-14-4, 2.72 GAA, .905 SV%, 3 SO)

Thompson was solid in Game 1, stopping 26 of 29 shots fired his way. He was 3-2-0 with a 3.22 GAA and .887 SV% in 5 April starts. He beat the Stars in his only start against them during the regular season, stopping 19 of 20 shots he faced.

Oettinger no bueno, but the Knights scored 2 of their 4 goals on the power play. Still, he stopped just 11 of 15 shots. He was 0-1-1 with a 3.21 GAA and .885 SV% against Vegas during the regular season. He went 2-4 with an .877 SV% in 6 games against the eventual Stanley Cup champs in last year’s playoffs. So there is enough of a sample size here to be concerned.

Golden Knights at Stars picks and predictions

Prediction

Stars 3, Golden Knights 2

Moneyline

Oettinger had a string last year where he was unstoppable after a loss. I look for him to steady up in this one and the Stars to even the series. VGK has won 5 consecutive meetings and the last 4 in Dallas. The train stops here, but Oettinger has to keep it low-scoring. I don’t like the price tag on Dallas at -165.

JASON ROBERTSON OVER 2.5 SHOTS (-140) is the way to go here. He had 3 SOG in Game 1 and has 3+ in 3 straight and 4 of 5.

Puck line/Against the spread

The only side I would consider here is the Stars -1.5, but I don’t have the confidence to back them.

PASS.

Over/Under

This total would be 3-5-2 O/U in the last 10 meetings. The Stars have 8 goals in the last 4 games, and Oettinger will have to keep this one under wraps for them to have a chance. Otherwise, they could be going home early.

LEAN UNDER 6 (-115).

Vegas Golden Knights at Dallas Stars Game 1 odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s Vegas Golden Knights at Dallas Stars Game 1 odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Vegas Golden Knights (45-29-8) hit the road to face the Dallas Stars (52-21-9) in Game 1 of their 1st-round series at American Airlines Center. Puck drop is set for 9:30 p.m. ET (ESPN). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Golden Knights vs. Stars odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

In a matchup of last season’s Western Conference Finals, the Golden Knights march into Dallas, where they outscored the Stars 12-3 in 3 games in that series. The Knights have some injury questions with RW Mark Stone’s (abdomen) status unknown, and D Alex Pietrangelo (illness) missed some time down the stretch. One thing that holds true is they’re a big, physical team that is built for the playoffs.

The Stars live and die with G Jake Oettinger in net. He struggled in last year’s playoffs, allowing 3+ goals in 11 of 19 starts after a banner regular season. The team tapered his workload back from 62 to 54 games this season. C Joe Pavelski was a monster in last year’s postseason with 9 goals and 5 assists in 14 games. They’ll rely heavily on the veteran again this postseason run.

Golden Knights at Stars projected goalies

Logan Thompson (25-14-5, 2.70 GAA, .908 SV%, 1 SO) vs. Jake Oettinger (35-14-4, 2.72 GAA, .905 SV%, 3 SO)

The one major hurdle the Knights will have to navigate this playoff run is the goaltending. G Adin Hill missed a lot of time this season after he went on a heater in last year’s playoffs. Thompson will have to prove he can do the same. He was 3-2-0 with a 3.22 GAA and .887 SV% in 5 April starts. He beat the Stars in his only start against them this season, stopping 19 of 20 shots he faced.

Oettinger was phenomenal down the stretch, going 5-1-0 with a 1.65 GAA and .941 SV% in 6 April starts. As mentioned, the team reduced his workload by 8 games this season after he seemingly wore down in last year’s playoffs. He was 0-1-1 with a 3.21 GAA and .885 SV% against Vegas this season. He went 2-4 with an .877 SV% in 6 games against the eventual Stanley Cup champs in last year’s playoffs.

Prediction

Golden Knights 4, Stars 2

Moneyline

The Stars lost all 3 Game 1’s last year, and 2 of those were at home. I think Vegas comes out and outmuscles them in this one. Vegas won all 3 matchups this season, and 2 came in the Stars’ building.

Take the value with the GOLDEN KNIGHTS (+115).

Puck line/Against the spread

There is a glaring prop bet ready for the picking. C Jack Eichel had 4+ SOG (shots on goal) in the final 3 games of the season. He also had 4, 4 and 8 SOG against Dallas this year.

Take JACK EICHEL OVER 3.5 SHOTS (+100).

Over/Under

The Knights beat the Stars in Vegas 4-3 and it required overtime in Game 1 last postseason. I’m thinking we see one team reach 4 in this one as well. VGK is 5-4-1 O/U in its last 10, and Dallas was just 2-8. I look for a high-scoring opener before the jitters and adrenaline evens out.

Take the OVER 5.5 (-120).

Vegas Golden Knights at Dallas Stars Game 6 odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s Vegas Golden Knights at Dallas Stars Game 6 odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Vegas Golden Knights meet the Dallas Stars in Game 6 of their Western Conference Final playoff series Monday. Puck drop at American Airlines Arena is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET (ESPN). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Golden Knights vs. Stars odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Golden Knights lead the series 3-2 after dropping Game 5 at home Saturday 4-2. Vegas looked a little complacent. Coach Bruce Cassidy highlighted the team’s 24 giveaways in Game 5, and captain Mark Stone said the team needs a better effort and to be a little more desperate. That all showed as Dallas stole this one.

Midway through the 3rd period, C Ty Dellandrea struck for 2 goals in just over 90 seconds to put the Stars ahead to stay. It was the 1st 2-goal game of his playoff career for a guy who was a healthy scratch at times this postseason. Stars LW Jamie Benn will return from a 2-game suspension for Game 6.

Golden Knights at Stars projected goalies

Adin Hill (16-7-1, 2.50 GAA, .915 SV%, 0 SO – regular season) vs. Jake Oettinger (37-11-11, 2.37 GAA, .919 SV%, 5 SO – regular season)

Hill stopped 30 of 34 shots in Game 5 as he has now made at least 30 saves in all but 1 game this series. The Stars might be onto something, though, as he has allowed 7 goals in the last 2 games after allowing just 5 in the first 3 games. Hill is 6-3 with a 2.30 GAA and .932 SV% these playoffs.

Oettinger was good again in Game 5 with 27 saves on 29 shots. Over the last 2 games, he has stopped 64 of 68 for a .941 SV%. It really has been a tale of 2 series for Otter, who allowed 10 goals combined in the 1st 3 games and 4 the last 2. He’s 10-8 with a 2.89 GAA and .901 SV% these playoffs.

Golden Knights at Stars picks and predictions

Prediction

Golden Knights 4, Stars 3

Moneyline

The Golden Knights are narrowly at plus-money for just the 2nd time this series. They closed at +120 for Game 3, up 2-0 in Dallas, and they’re at +110 here. So the books aren’t too convinced we’ll see a Game 7. This is truly a toss-up. Hill has been playing well above his pay grade, and maybe that prompted VGK to be a little lax with the puck. I look for a high-octane game here that may require a 7th overtime between the teams in the last 10 games.

LEAN GOLDEN KNIGHTS +110.

Puck line/Against the spread

No interest in either puck line here, but I expect a more-inspired Golden Knights team. They were beaten 29-25 in faceoffs, 24-21 in hits and 34-29 in shots in Game 5. I look for at least 30-32 shots in this one, and that means BET JAKE OETTINGER OVER 26.5 SAVES (-105).

Over/Under

The Under is 8-0 in the last 8 meetings in Dallas and 15-5-2 in the last 22 overall. But I really look for Vegas to put up 4 here, which they did in the 4-0 win here in Game 3. Dallas should keep it close. This is just a hunch here because VGK’s coach publicly called out their effort, and Dallas is lighting the lamp enough to cash it. So PASS or LEAN OVER 5.5 (-110).

Vegas Golden Knights at Dallas Stars Game 4 odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Vegas Golden Knights at Dallas Stars Game 4 odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Vegas Golden Knights meet the Dallas Stars in Game 4 of their Western Conference Final playoff series Thursday. Puck drop at American Airlines Arena is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET (ESPN). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Golden Knights vs. Stars odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

Vegas is on the brink of its 2nd Stanley Cup Final appearance in its 6-year existence. The Golden Knights took a 3-0 series lead with an impressive 4-0 victory in Dallas Tuesday. They jumped out to a 3-0 lead just over 7 minutes into the game and never looked back. G Adin Hill was phenomenal with a 34-save shutout.

Stars LW Jamie Benn received a 5-minute major for cross checking Golden Knights RW Mark Stone 1:53 into the game with Dallas already down 1-0. Vegas responded by scoring twice in the next 5½.

The Stars outshot the Golden Knights 34-16 but could not crack Hill. The Stars will have to play a tight game and keep their composure Thursday if they hope to extend the series.

Adin Hill (16-7-1, 2.50 GAA, .915 SV%, 0 SO – regular season) vs. Jake Oettinger (37-11-11, 2.37 GAA, .919 SV%, 5 SO – regular season)

Hill stopped all 34 shots in Game 3, and he has a ridiculous .949 SV% in the series. He is 6-1 with a 1.96 GAA and .940 SV% in these playoffs. He’s playing a little above himself right now, though, so some regression should be expected.

Oettinger was pulled 7:10 into Game 3 after Vegas’ 3rd goal — he finished with just 2 saves on 5 shots. He has now lost 3 games in a row and 4 of 5.  The Stars go as he goes, and he has been going down the tubes. Oettinger is 8-8 with a 3.02 GAA and .895 SV% in the playoffs.

Golden Knights at Stars picks and predictions

Prediction

Stars 3, Golden Knights 2

Moneyline

I don’t see the Golden Knights sweeping this series. The first 2 games — in Vegas — went to overtime, and Game 3 really just got out of hand after Benn’s major penalty 2 minutes in.

Oettinger makes a stand Thursday and gets the Stars one here. TAKE DALLAS (-115).

Puck line/Against the spread

No interest in either puck line here, but this will be a redemption game for Oettinger. Vegas will bring some pressure now that they know the Florida Panthers — who completed a sweep of the Carolina Hurricanes in the Eastern Conference Final Wednesday — are waiting on the winner of this series in the Stanley Cup Final.

PASS on the puck line, but BET JAKE OETTINGER OVER 25.5 SAVES (-125).

Over/Under

Not only has the Under cashed in the last 2 games. the Under is 7-2-1 in the last 10 between these teams, and 7-0 in the last 7 head-to-heads in Dallas. According to Covers.com, the Under is also 8-1-1 in VGK’s last 10 Conference Final games and 8-1-2 in the Stars’ last 11 Conference Final games.

It boils down to this: Game 4 needs to be an Under for Dallas to have a chance.

LEAN UNDER 5.5 (-110).

Analyzing Tuesday’s Vegas Golden Knights at Dallas Stars Game 3 odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Vegas Golden Knights meet the Dallas Stars in Game 3 of their Western Conference Final playoff series Tuesday. Puck drop at American Airlines Arena is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET (ESPN). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Golden Knights vs. Stars odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

VGK found a way to solve the Stars in Game 2 to take a 2-0 lead in the series. Trailing 2-1, RW Jonathan Marchessault crashed the net and received a nice feed from C Ivan Barbashev to tie the game with under 3 minutes to go. C Chandler Stephenson was able to hit the game-winner 1:12 into overtime.

The Stars were stunned as they had the lead most of the game and held the Golden Knights to just 10 shots the 1st 2 periods. It was the 1st time these playoffs they lost consecutive games as G Jake Oettinger fell to 22-2-3 after a loss this year.

Golden Knights at Stars picks and predictions

Prediction

Stars 4, Golden Knights 2

Moneyline

After dropping the 1st 2 games in OT, I look for Dallas to empty the tank in front of the home crowd. These teams have been in a lot of close games recently as 3 of the last 4 regular-season games went to a shootout, and Games 1 and 2 needed OT.

Take the STARS -145.

Puck line/Against the spread

The Stars are 5-1 in their last 6 home games. Neither team has landed a puck-line victory yet this series, and we’re forecasting Dallas to cash. However, I can’t get over the fact that so many games have needed overtime between the sides.

PASS or LEAN STARS -1.5 (+180).

Over/Under

Game 1 went Over, and Game 2 went Under. The Under is 7-1-1 in VGK’s last 9 conference finals games. The Under is 7-1-2 in the Stars’ last 10 conference finals games. With a Stars win forecasted and Oettinger’s lackluster stats thus far, we’re going to buck some trends here and LEAN OVER 5.5 (-110).

We’re getting in a little late, though, as the Over was +105 earlier Tuesday morning.

Vegas Golden Knights at Dallas Stars odds, picks, and prediction

Analyzing Wednesday’s Vegas Golden Knights at Dallas Stars odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Vegas Golden Knights (2-4-0) and Dallas Stars (3-3-0) square off Wednesday night at the American Airlines Center. Puck drop is slated for 8:30 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Golden Knights vs. Stars odds and lines, and make our expert NHL picks, predictions and bets.

Vegas is playing its third game in four days and is coming off an impressive 3-1 win at the Colorado Avalanche Tuesday. A banged-up Golden Knights team has struggled in the early going. Vegas went into last night’s game in Denver averaging just 2.0 goals per game.

The Stars last played Monday when they dropped a 4-1 decision at the Columbus Blue Jackets. Dallas has also been a bit of a disappointment in early-season games, especially offensively. The Stars have scored more than 2 goals just twice in six games.

Golden Knights at Stars projected goalies

Laurent Brossoit (0-0-0, 6.00 GAA, .875 SV%) vs. Anton Khudobin (1-1-0, 2.49 GAA, .909 SV%)

Brossoit is appearing in his first game since Oct. 14, when he stopped 14-of-16 shots against the Los Angeles Kings. The 28-year-old logged a .913 SV% and 2.75 GAA over 54 games for the Winnipeg Jets over the last three years.

Khudobin is making his second start and third appearance of the season. He stopped 24 of 27 shots faced in a 3-2 loss at the Ottawa Senators Oct. 17 in his last start.

Golden Knights at Stars odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Stars 4, Golden Knights 2

Money line

PASS: The Stars are the lean but there’s more value in getting them in a multi-score win.

Against the spread

Defensive-minded Dallas is coming off allowing four goals to Columbus. Look for a get-right effort against Vegas on the back end of road double.

BACK THE STARS -1.5 (+165).

Over/Under

The Under is 6-0 in the Stars’ six games this season but this game is priced right for buy-back.

Dallas is shooting a league-low 4.1% in 5-on-5 play. The Stars ranked fifth in converting power plays a year ago. There is some untapped offense on their end, and Vegas games have been contests with a lot of scoring chances at both ends of the ice.

TAKE THE OVER 5.5 (+100).
