Vegas Golden Knights at Colorado Avalanche odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Vegas Golden Knights at Colorado Avalanche odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Vegas Golden Knights (14-6-2) take on the Colorado Avalanche (12-10-0) Wednesday. Puck drop from Ball Arena is set for 10 p.m. ET (TNT). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s NHL odds around the Golden Knights vs. Avalanche odds and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

Season series: Golden Knights lead 1-0

The Knights won their third in a row with a 5-4 shootout victory in Philadelphia Monday. C Jack Eichel netted his 8th goal of the season, and C Ivan Barbashev scored his 10th in the victory. Eichel has a point in 9 of 10 games. The Knights were 3-1 on the road trip, only losing the opener. Already without RW Mark Stone, the Knights could be without a couple of their best defensemen with Alex Pietrangelo and Zach Whitecloud questionable with upper-body ailments.

The Avs ended a 3-game winning streak by an 8-2 landslide in Tampa Monday. The only player to score was 22-year-old C Ivan Ivan, and much like his name, he likes things in twos as he scored both goals. C Nathan MacKinnon has just 2 points in the last 5 games.

Golden Knights at Avalanche projected goalies

Adin Hill (9-4-1, 2.99 GAA, .887 SV%, 1 SO) vs. Alexandar Georgiev (6-5-0, 3.49 GAA, .871 SV%)

Hill has been solid, but unspectacular this season. He has allowed exactly 2 goals in 4 straight starts, and he’s 3-1-0 in those. He allowed 2 goals on just 17 shots against the Montreal Canadiens Saturday in a 6-2 win. He was 2-0-0 with a 1.48 GAA and .954 SV% against the Avs last season.

Georgiev was OK in 2 wins since coming off IR last week. He stopped 28 of 29 he saw against Washington Thursday and 27 of 31 he saw against Florida Saturday. He was thrust into relief duty Monday, allowing 3 goals on 17 shots in the 8-2 laugher. He was 1-1-1 with a 3.64 GAA and .876 SV% in 3 starts against VGK a season ago.

Golden Knights at Avalanche picks and predictions

Prediction

Avalanche 3, Golden Knights 2

Moneyline

I really want to lean toward Vegas (+140) here, but the banged-up defensemen moves the needle to Colorado (-165). The Avs’ ML is out of my price range for the lackluster goaltending they’ve received all season.

One player that is not banged up for Vegas is D Noah Hanifin. He had 3 shots on goal in the last game and has a 3-game point streak. Take NOAH HANIFIN OVER 0.5 POINTS (+160) for a sizeable payout.

Puck line/Against the spread

I like the GOLDEN KNIGHTS +1.5 (-165) more than I do the Avs ML at the same price. The Avs have scored just 3 empty-net goals this season, and with my feeling that Vegas could take this one outright, this seems like a good wager.

Over/Under

We’re going UNDER 6.5 (+100)  because it’s going to have to be an Under game for Colorado to stay in it. Vegas’ defensemen are huge oak trees, and the Avs have scored more than 3 against VGK once in the last 10 meetings.

TAKE UNDER 6.5 (+100).

Vegas Golden Knights at Colorado Avalanche odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s Vegas Golden Knights at Colorado Avalanche odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Vegas Golden Knights (35-18-6) meet the Colorado Avalanche (33-19-5) Monday at Ball Arena in Denver. Puck drop is scheduled for 9 p.m. (ESPN+). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Golden Knights vs. Avalanche odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Golden Knights lost 3-2 in a shootout Saturday against the Dallas Stars at T-Mobile Arena. Vegas has picked up points in 9 consecutive games, although it is just 1-0-2 in the last 3 games. Vegas, which has played in 5 straight 1-goal games, made a splash in the trade market over the weekend, acquiring winger Ivan Barbashev from the St. Louis Blues to bolster its offense.

The Avalanche roughed up the Calgary Flames 4-1 on Saturday. Colorado has won 5 straight games while lighting the lamp at least 4 times in 4 consecutive contests.

This is the final regular-season meeting. The Golden Knights won 3-2 at Colorado on Oct. 22 while the Avalanche won 3-2 at Vegas on Jan. 2.

Golden Knights at Avalanche projected goalies

Adin Hill (14-5-1, 2.55 GAA, .910 SV%) vs. Alexandar Georgiev (25-12-4, 2.63 GAA, .920 SV%, 2 SO)

Hill has won 4 consecutive starts, including a win over the Tampa Bay Lightning last time out on Feb. 18. He missed over a week due to an undisclosed ailment, but Hill was able to practice over the weekend, and the team returned Michael Hutchinson to the minors as a result.

Georgiev allowed a single goal on 29 shots in a 4-1 win against the Calgary Flames on Saturday. He has won 4 straight starts, while going 5-1-1 with a 2.80 GAA and .920 SV% in 7 starts in February.

Golden Knights at Avalanche picks and predictions

Prediction

Avalanche 3, Golden Knights 2

Moneyline

The AVALANCHE (-140) are decent moderate plays, as Colorado has really started to look like a championship-caliber team after a handful of mediocre months.

Colorado has won 4 straight games against teams with a winning record, while cashing in 42 of the past 61 games against Pacific Division teams. The Avs are also 6-2 in the last 8 games when playing on a day of rest.

On the flip side, the Golden Knights (+120) are 2-5 in the last 7 games on the road.

Puck line/Against the spread

The Golden Knights +1.5 (-210) will cost you over 2 times your potential return, and that’s just too much risk for not enough reward, if you require a little bit of insurance.

PASS.

Over/Under

The UNDER 5.5 (+110) is worth a look at plus-money.

The Under is 9-1-1 in the last 11 games on the road for Vegas, while going 5-1-1 in the last 7 games against Central Division foes.

The Under has hit at a 20-7-3 clip in the last 30 games for the Avs against teams with a winning overall record, while going 18-6-3 in the last 27 against Western Conference foes.

The Under is also 5-0 in the last 5 meetings, while going 4-0 in the previous 4 meetings in the Mile High City.

Vegas Golden Knights at Colorado Avalanche odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s Vegas Golden Knights at Colorado Avalanche odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Vegas Golden Knights (25-12-2) visit the Colorado Avalanche (19-13-3) Monday in their 2nd meeting this season. Face-off from Ball Arena is set for 9 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Golden Knights vs. Avalanche odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Golden Knights are coming off a 5-4 OT win they secured Saturday night vs. Nashville. That win ended a 2-game losing streak for the Knights and saw the Knights overcome a hat trick and almost blowing a 4-2 lead in the 3rd period.

The Avalanche are on a 3-game losing streak that has seen them give up 5+ goals in each of their last 3 games. Their most recent loss came Saturday in a 6-2 blowout vs. Toronto. That loss was the second of their last three games that saw the Avalanche give up 6 goals.

Golden Knights at Avalanche projected goalies

Logan Thompson (17-9-0, 2.64 GAA, .915 SV%, 2 SO) vs. Alexandar Georgiev (15-8-0, 2.66 GAA, .915 SV%, 2 SO)

Thompson last started in that Saturday night OT win, a game in which he allowed 4 goals on 37 shots and had an SV% of .892. He lost to the Avs, 3-2, early in the season and stopped 22 of 25 shots.

Georgiev last started in Saturday’s loss to Toronto. In that loss he allowed 5 goals on 24 shots with an SV% of .792. He was fantastic against VGK Oct. 22 with 33 saves on 35 shots in that 3-2 win.

Golden Knights at Avalanche picks and predictions

Prediction

Avalanche 2, Golden Knights 1

Moneyline

LEAN AVALANCHE -160.

The Avalanche should be able to pull out the home win here despite being the underdog. Their recent losing streak is a cause for concern if you’re betting on this game as all of those losses have been blowouts. But this is a team that the Avalanche already beat once this year, and this is the perfect opportunity for them to turn this losing streak around and gain some momentum.

Puck line/Against the spread

LEAN GOLDEN KNIGHTS +1.5 (-180).

The Avalanche will have a hard time covering this spread as in recent history they rarely win by more than a goal. Four of their last 6 wins have come by way of either overtime or shootouts, and 5 of their last 6 wins were by 1 goal. The Avalanche are not a team that has proven to be capable of winning by more than one goal as of late and that is not a trend I see changing here.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 6.5 (-130).

In games where the Avalanche win, they often score a maximum of 3 goals, which is not enough to carry an Over in a game like this where I expect the Avalanche to win. However, if you believe that Colorado will lose this game then bet on the Over. In their last 3 losses, the last amount of goals scored for both teams was 8.

Vegas Golden Knights at Colorado Avalanche odds, picks, and prediction

Analyzing Tuesday’s Vegas Golden Knights at Colorado Avalanche odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Vegas Golden Knights (1-4-0) and Colorado Avalanche (2-3-0) meet Tuesday night in Denver. Puck drop at Ball Arena is slated for 8 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Golden Knights vs. Avalanche odds and lines, and make our expert NHL picks, predictions and bets.

Vegas has lost four of its first five games. Injuries have been a problem, and the Golden Knights have struggled offensively. F Max Pacioretty (shoulder) and F Mark Stone (lower body) are out, and that makes for 251 points from the last two seasons on the shelf. What’s left is averaging just 2.0 goals per game (28th NHL).

The Avs have been dealing with injuries and COVID-19 protocols. However, they got star F Nathan MacKinnon back from the COVID-19 list on a recent three-game road trip. McKinnon had a goal and 2 assists in a shutout win over the Tampa Bay Lightning Saturday.

Golden Knights at Avalanche projected goalies

Robin Lehner (1-4-0, 3.28 GAA, .908 SV%) vs. Darcy Kuemper (2-2-0, 3.51 GAA, .894 SV%)

Lehner stopped 24-of-26 in a 2-0 loss against the New York Islanders Sunday. He’s facing the Avs for the first time since Colorado got to him for 7 goals (5 even-strength, 2 power-play) in a May 30 playoff game.

Kuemper is off to a bit of a slow start. The 31-year-old clocked a .922 SV% over the last three seasons in Arizona. Kuemper has a solid history of performing well at home (.921 SV%).

Golden Knights at Avalanche odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Avalanche 4, Golden Knights 2

Money line

Both teams are struggling, however, puck-possession and shot analytics indicate Colorado as at least playing a more representative brand of hockey thus far.

The Avs are returning home after a three-game road trip. Colorado was 8-0 last season in home games on the heels of multi-game trips.

BACK THE AVALANCHE (-190).

Against the spread

Consider splitting action on the Avs, going with a half-unit on the money line and a half-unit on the puck line. In those eight return-home victories last season, four wins were by margins of 3 goals or more. One of those — a 5-1 triumph — was against the Vegas Golden Knights.

TAKE COLORADO -1.5 (+133).

Over/Under

Respecting what looks to be a well-constructed number here: PASS.
