Vegas Golden Knights at Colorado Avalanche odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s Vegas Golden Knights at Colorado Avalanche odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Vegas Golden Knights (25-12-2) visit the Colorado Avalanche (19-13-3) Monday in their 2nd meeting this season. Face-off from Ball Arena is set for 9 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Golden Knights vs. Avalanche odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Golden Knights are coming off a 5-4 OT win they secured Saturday night vs. Nashville. That win ended a 2-game losing streak for the Knights and saw the Knights overcome a hat trick and almost blowing a 4-2 lead in the 3rd period.

The Avalanche are on a 3-game losing streak that has seen them give up 5+ goals in each of their last 3 games. Their most recent loss came Saturday in a 6-2 blowout vs. Toronto. That loss was the second of their last three games that saw the Avalanche give up 6 goals.

Golden Knights at Avalanche projected goalies

Logan Thompson (17-9-0, 2.64 GAA, .915 SV%, 2 SO) vs. Alexandar Georgiev (15-8-0, 2.66 GAA, .915 SV%, 2 SO)

Thompson last started in that Saturday night OT win, a game in which he allowed 4 goals on 37 shots and had an SV% of .892. He lost to the Avs, 3-2, early in the season and stopped 22 of 25 shots.

Georgiev last started in Saturday’s loss to Toronto. In that loss he allowed 5 goals on 24 shots with an SV% of .792. He was fantastic against VGK Oct. 22 with 33 saves on 35 shots in that 3-2 win.

Golden Knights at Avalanche picks and predictions

Prediction

Avalanche 2, Golden Knights 1

Moneyline

LEAN AVALANCHE -160.

The Avalanche should be able to pull out the home win here despite being the underdog. Their recent losing streak is a cause for concern if you’re betting on this game as all of those losses have been blowouts. But this is a team that the Avalanche already beat once this year, and this is the perfect opportunity for them to turn this losing streak around and gain some momentum.

Puck line/Against the spread

LEAN GOLDEN KNIGHTS +1.5 (-180).

The Avalanche will have a hard time covering this spread as in recent history they rarely win by more than a goal. Four of their last 6 wins have come by way of either overtime or shootouts, and 5 of their last 6 wins were by 1 goal. The Avalanche are not a team that has proven to be capable of winning by more than one goal as of late and that is not a trend I see changing here.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 6.5 (-130).

In games where the Avalanche win, they often score a maximum of 3 goals, which is not enough to carry an Over in a game like this where I expect the Avalanche to win. However, if you believe that Colorado will lose this game then bet on the Over. In their last 3 losses, the last amount of goals scored for both teams was 8.

Vegas Golden Knights at Colorado Avalanche odds, picks, and prediction

Analyzing Tuesday’s Vegas Golden Knights at Colorado Avalanche odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Vegas Golden Knights (1-4-0) and Colorado Avalanche (2-3-0) meet Tuesday night in Denver. Puck drop at Ball Arena is slated for 8 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Golden Knights vs. Avalanche odds and lines, and make our expert NHL picks, predictions and bets.

Vegas has lost four of its first five games. Injuries have been a problem, and the Golden Knights have struggled offensively. F Max Pacioretty (shoulder) and F Mark Stone (lower body) are out, and that makes for 251 points from the last two seasons on the shelf. What’s left is averaging just 2.0 goals per game (28th NHL).

The Avs have been dealing with injuries and COVID-19 protocols. However, they got star F Nathan MacKinnon back from the COVID-19 list on a recent three-game road trip. McKinnon had a goal and 2 assists in a shutout win over the Tampa Bay Lightning Saturday.

Golden Knights at Avalanche projected goalies

Robin Lehner (1-4-0, 3.28 GAA, .908 SV%) vs. Darcy Kuemper (2-2-0, 3.51 GAA, .894 SV%)

Lehner stopped 24-of-26 in a 2-0 loss against the New York Islanders Sunday. He’s facing the Avs for the first time since Colorado got to him for 7 goals (5 even-strength, 2 power-play) in a May 30 playoff game.

Kuemper is off to a bit of a slow start. The 31-year-old clocked a .922 SV% over the last three seasons in Arizona. Kuemper has a solid history of performing well at home (.921 SV%).

Golden Knights at Avalanche odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Avalanche 4, Golden Knights 2

Money line

Both teams are struggling, however, puck-possession and shot analytics indicate Colorado as at least playing a more representative brand of hockey thus far.

The Avs are returning home after a three-game road trip. Colorado was 8-0 last season in home games on the heels of multi-game trips.

BACK THE AVALANCHE (-190).

Against the spread

Consider splitting action on the Avs, going with a half-unit on the money line and a half-unit on the puck line. In those eight return-home victories last season, four wins were by margins of 3 goals or more. One of those — a 5-1 triumph — was against the Vegas Golden Knights.

TAKE COLORADO -1.5 (+133).

Over/Under

Respecting what looks to be a well-constructed number here: PASS.

Vegas Golden Knights at Colorado Avalanche Game 1 odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Sunday’s Vegas Golden Knights at Colorado Avalanche Game 1 odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The Vegas Golden Knights and Colorado Avalanche play Game 1 of their Stanley Cup Playoffs second-round series Sunday. Puck drop is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET at Ball Arena. Below, we analyze the Golden Knights-Avalanche odds and lines, with NHL picks and predictions.

The Golden Knights survived against the Minnesota Wild in seven games, and now focus on the Avalanche. These teams split their eight games in the regular season, with each team going 2-2 on the road.

The Avalanche swept the St. Louis Blues in Round 1 and have had a full week to rest. If you’re concerned about rust, Colorado is 4-1 across the past five when playing on three or more days of rest.

Golden Knights at Avalanche: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 5:37 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Golden Knights +155 (bet $100 to win $155) | Avalanche -190 (bet $190 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Golden Knights +1.5 (-165) | Avalanche -1.5 (+140)
  • Over/Under: 5.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Golden Knights at Avalanche: Projected starting goalies

Marc-Andre Fleury (26-10-0, 1.98 GAA, .928 SV%, 6 SO) vs. Philipp Grubauer (30-9-1, 1.95 GAA, .922 SV%, 7 SO)

Fleury struggled a bit in Games 5 and 6 against Minnesota, but he bounced back with a solid effort in Game 7 Friday. He went just 4-3-0 in seven regular-season starts against the Avs, but he had a stellar 2.14 GAA and .932 SV% with two shutouts.

Grubauer helped the Avs make quick work of the Blues. Now, he focuses on the Golden Knights at home. He was an amazing 19-4-1 with a 1.60 GAA and .935 SV% with six shutouts in 24 starts in Denver, while going 4-2-1 with a 1.86 GAA and .935 SV% in seven regular-season starts vs. Vegas.

Golden Knights vs. Avalanche: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Avalanche 4, Golden Knights 2

Money line (ML)

The AVALANCHE (-190) are a little over my personal money line limit of -180, but sometimes you have to bend your own rules. I don’t like what I saw from the Golden Knights in the latter stages of their series against the Wild. If Fleury and the Knights play like that against the Avs in Game 1, they’ll get run out of the building.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

COLORADO -1.5 (+140) is a solid value on the puck line. While the Golden Knights actually covered the puck line in their past three meetings with the Avs, I like a rested Colorado team to come out on fire here.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 5.5 (-110) is the play here despite the fact we have two stud backstops. We also have a pair of high-octane offenses, which should account for at least six total goals in the series opener. The Over is 6-0 in the past six for Vegas as an underdog in the playoffs, too, while going 18-7-1 in the past 26 playoff games for Colorado as a favorite.

Vegas Golden Knights at Colorado Avalanche odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Saturday’s Vegas Golden Knights at Colorado Avalanche NHL odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The Vegas Golden Knights (22-8-1) square off in the second of a two-game set against the Colorado Avalanche (21-8-3) Saturday for a 3 p.m. ET puck drop at Ball Arena. Below, we analyze the Golden Knights-Avalanche odds and lines, with NHL picks and predictions.

  • Against the spread/ATS: Golden Knights +1.5 (-190) | Avalanche -1.5 (+155)
  • Over/Under: 5.5 (O: -115 | U: -105)

Golden Knights at Avalanche: Projected starting goalies

Robin Lehner (5-1-1, 2.55 GAA, .898 SV%) vs. Philipp Grubauer (20-7-0, 1.69 GAA, .931 SV%, 5 SO)

Lehner enters on a three-game win streak, including 2-0-0 with a 1.50 GAA and .927 SV% in two starts since returning after a six-week absence due to injury.

This will be his first appearance against the Avalanche this season. He was 1-1-0 with a dismal 5.59 GAA and .822 SV% in two appearances vs. COL last season.

Grubauer is looking very Vezina-like this season. He reached 20 victories in a 5-1 win over Vegas in the front end of the back-to-back set, and he already has a career-high for NHL wins in a single season.

Grubauer has allowed one or no goals in seven consecutive starts and eight straight appearances, all victories. He is 3-2-0 with a 1.81 GAA and .930 SV% in his five starts against Vegas this season.

Golden Knights at Avalanche: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Avalanche 4, Golden Knights 3

Money line (ML)

The AVALANCHE (-175) are a little pricy for my liking, especially against another strong team like the Golden Knights (+150).

However, Colorado handled Vegas 5-1 in the front end of the set, and Grubauer is playing absolutely out of his mind lately.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

The GOLDEN KNIGHTS +1.5 (-190) are slightly over my personal limit of -180 for bets, but sometimes limits are made to be broken. Vegas was embarrassed in the first game of the set, so you know VGK will come back with a vengeance in this one.

They might not be able to sack Grubauer, who is on quite the roll, but they should be able to produce a much better showing than Thursday.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 5.5 (-115) is risky business with Grubauer playing the best hockey of his career. While Colorado allows just 2.3 goals per game, the offense has rolled up 3.5 goals per game to rank second in the NHL.

And Vegas has scored 3.3 goals per game to check in seventh in the league, while their power play has been on the come lately after a rough start to the campaign.

  • Against the spread/ATS: Golden Knights +1.5 (-175) | Avalanche -1.5 (+145)
  • Over/Under: 5.5 (O: -115 | U: -105)

Golden Knights at Avalanche: Projected starting goalies

Robin Lehner (5-1-1, 2.55 GAA, .898 SV%) vs. Philipp Grubauer (19-7-0, 1.71 GAA, .930 SV%, 5 SO)

Lehner has been sharp in his two starts since returning from injury. He is 2-0-0 with 3 goals allowed on 41 total shots. The first start Friday against the Los Angeles Kings might not wow people, as the Kings have had their ups and downs, but the follow-up win over the St. Louis Blues was rather impressive.

Grubauer has won six straight starts, and seven consecutive appearances after coming on in relief March 16 against the Anaheim Ducks for another win. He allowed none or one goal in each of those seven outings. Grubauer has faced VGK four times this season and is 2-2-0 with a 2.01 GAA and .927 SV%.

Golden Knights at Avalanche: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Golden Knights 2, Avalanche 1

Money line (ML)

The GOLDEN KNIGHTS (+160) are quite a nice value as moderate underdogs in the Mile High City.

The road team has won five of the past seven meetings in this series, and the underdog has cashed in eight of the previous nine head-to-head contests.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

The Golden Knights +1.5 (-175) will cost you nearly two times your potential return. While that might very well cash in what should be a tight matchup, just bet the Golden Knights straight up instead as a much better value.

AVOID.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 5.5 (-105) is the way to be in this one. Grubauer is giving up next to nothing, and Lehner has been red-hot since returning from the injured list, too.

If it makes you feel even better, the Under has cashed in four straight meetings between these two Western Conference powerhouses.
