Week 7 SEC power rankings: Arkansas continues to fall

Auburn trending upward after beating Arkansas.

There wasn’t an Alabama/A&M level of upset this weekend. Shocking, I know.

But there were a couple of smaller upsets within the SEC that solidified some things moving forward. Auburn handed Arkansas their third straight loss, putting the Razorbacks at dead last in the SEC West. LSU gave Florida its third loss of the season pushing the Gators back to fourth in the SEC East and virtually eliminating them from the title hunt. Georgia didn’t clinch the SEC East, but essentially did so with a win over Kentucky. Tennessee losing to Ole Miss was an upset in the eye of ESPN’s FPI (UT has a 54% chance to win), but the Rebels kept themselves in the West race.

Here are the updated SEC power rankings after week seven.

SEC predictions for week 7

Does Auburn win on the road? Does Alabama do the unthinkable and lose two games in a row?

So Alabama lost to Texas A&M.

For the first time since 2007, Alabama lost to an unranked opponent. It was the first time Nick Saban lost to a former assistant. That was one of two games of the year, as Ole Miss had beaten Arkansas in a 52-51 thriller. College football has been amazing this season.

I went 6-1 in my picks last week to put me at 46-14 on the year. This week, five ranked SEC teams are on the road, three of them participating in cross-division games. Here’s to another solid week for my picks in the SEC.

Here are my SEC picks for week seven.

Week 6 SEC Power Rankings: Alabama falls after losing to A&M

Alabama falls in the week six SEC power rankings.

Can college football get any crazier?

We essentially had three ‘Game of the Year’ type performances yesterday (Alabama vs Texas A&M, Oklahoma vs Texas, Arkansas vs Ole Miss) and that doesn’t include two top 10 teams (Penn State and BYU) losing. It’s 2007 all over again.

Within the SEC, there were some huge games, and that might be an understatement. Alabama lost to Texas A&M 41-38, the Crimson Tide’s first loss to an unranked team for the first time since 2007. This A&M/Bama matchup was the preseason SEC on CBS Game of the Year, and had you told me after watching Texas A&M lose to Arkansas and Mississippi State in consecutive weeks that the Aggies would win this game, well, I would have told you that preseason me was right. Even though preseason me wasn’t right on a lot of things, at least he called the upset.

SEC predictions for week 6

Can Auburn hold on vs Georgia? @dawepound gives his thoughts.

I feel like I start every prediction article talking about how wild the previous week was in the SEC.

I doubt we’ll get a rest until cupcake week (before all of the rivalries to wrap up the regular season), and that’s a very good thing if you’re still starved for college football after a watered-down 2020 season. Right now, we’re enjoying the first few courses of the meal. Dessert is week 12, and if you’re full after week 13, make sure to get a to-go box because conference championships, bowls, and the playoff are soon to follow after. What a great time to be a college football fan.

Unfortunately for me, last week was not a good time to be my picks. I went 4-4 last weekend in the SEC, the worst week I’ve had thus far (40-13 on the year). Let’s try and turn it around this week with another pair of top 25 matchups looming on Saturday.

Week 5 SEC Power Rankings: Kentucky, Auburn on the move

Week five in the SEC was tumultuous.

There were some unexpected things happening in the SEC this weekend.

Georgia started off Saturday with a 37-0 demolishing of No. 8 Arkansas without quarterback JT Daniels. Missouri’s defense is worse than we thought. The Tigers gave up 62 points in a blowout loss to Tennessee. Alabama ran away from Ole Miss after some questionable decisions made by Lane Kiffin early. Kentucky beat No. 10 Florida in Lexington for the first time in 35 years. No. 15 Texas A&M lost at home to Mississippi State. Auburn beat LSU in Baton Rouge for the first time since 1999. And Vandy vs UConn was a down-to-the-wire 30-28 thriller in favor of the Commodores. Streaks were broken, blowouts were had, and Vanderbilt somehow won. What a weekend.

Here are the SEC power rankings after a tumultuous week five in the Southeastern Conference.

SEC predictions for week 5

Can Auburn beat LSU for the first time since 1999? Here are @dawepound’s thoughts.

We’ve officially waded waist-deep into conference play.

Last week, I promised I would crack 80% on my picks for the season and after going 7-1 in week four, I managed to get to 80% (36-9 on the year). This week is going to be tough if I want to keep that rate going.

There are two top 25 matchups on deck for us this week in the Southeastern Conference, with the No. 8 Arkansas Razorbacks heading down to Athens to take on the No. 2 Georgia Bulldogs, and the No. 12 Ole Miss Rebels taking on the No. 1 Alabama Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa. Not only do we have these two fantastic matchups in store, but we also have two other top 25 teams on the road to face valiant conference foes (No. 10 Florida at Kentucky, No. 22 Auburn at LSU). Also, don’t forget the Super Bowl is being played this weekend between UConn and Vanderbilt. It’s must watch television.

Here are my predictions for the SEC in week five.

Week 4 SEC Power Rankings: Auburn falls, Arkansas continues to rise

What are your thoughts on these power rankings?

At least five top 25 teams have lost every week so far this season.

This week, six teams fell. Including Texas A&M from the SEC after Arkansas ended their long drought against the Aggies in Arlington.

Outside of Arkansas, there weren’t a lot of huge moves made in the SEC. LSU took care of business again Mississippi State and looks ready to face Auburn this weekend. Speaking of the Tigers from the plains, Auburn looked out of sorts against Georgia State. It took a fourth-and-nine touchdown pass from backup quarterback TJ Finley to get the job done. Where does everyone line up in the SEC this weekend?

Here are my SEC Power Rankings after week four.

Week 3 SEC Power Rankings: Alabama loses top spot

What are your thoughts on these SEC power rankings?

There was some moving and shaking at the top of the SEC’s power rankings this week.

Alabama edged by Florida in the Swamp, whereas Georgia continues to dominate after taking care of SOut Carolina. The Auburn Tigers lost to Penn State, and Kentucky looked horrible against Chattanooga. Ole Miss has a Heisman contender in Matt Corral, Arkansas has a 2023 Heisman contender in KJ Jefferson, Mississippi State is back to being bad, and Vanderbilt continues to get worse.

We are getting more information about these teams every single week now that teams are playing tougher levels of compeition.

Here are my SEC power rankings after week three.

Predicting every week 3 SEC game

What do you think about these predictions?

Week two had some wild outcomes in the SEC.

Arkansas beat no. 15 Texas like a drum. South Carolina hit a walk-off field goal to beat East Carolina. No. 7 Texas A&M survived a scare from Colorado and lost starting QB Haynes King in the process. Mississippi State hammered NC State. And Vanderbilt, who I still have no faith in, managed to pull out a win over Colorado State. I went 10-3 on my picks in the Southeastern Conference to put me at 19-6 (76%) on the season. This week, there are a lot more intriguing matchups on paper.  Let’s dive in.

Here are my predictions for the week three slate.

SEC football power rankings after Week 2

SEC football power rankings after Week 2

Week 2 in the SEC saw some pretty good matchups and some very impressive wins – looking at you, Arkansas.

Only one battle took place between two SEC teams over the weekend, Kentucky vs Missouri, which UK won 35-28.

Aside from Tennessee losing to Pittsburgh, every SEC team won its non-conference matchup in Week 2.

Here’s a look at our updated SEC power rankings after the second week of action.
