Bryce Young pauses his TD celebration when Saban wants to talk

Bryce Young has a hilarious interaction with Saban after celebration

Star quarterback [autotag]Bryce Young[/autotag] and the Alabama Crimson Tide have been all smiles through the first half of their season opener against the Utah State Aggies. Young has picked up right where he left off in 2021 with four first-half passing touchdowns.

Though Young was smiling, Coach Saban was not. Watch the hilarious interaction below as Young goes from celebrating a touchdown with teammates to getting an earful from Coach Saban in a matter of seconds.

One can only imagine what Saban had to say to Young, but it didn’t look like he was cracking jokes.

FANS REACT: Jermaine Burton’s Alabama debut is headline worthy

Jermaine Burton and Bryce Young are growing a connection that is key to Alabama’s success.

Alabama Football lost a lot of offensive talent to the 2022 NFL draft, especially at the wide receiver position. One of the five payers that joined the Crimson Tide via the transfer portal this offseason was former Georgia receiver, Jermaine Burton.

Burton is expected to become Alabama’s new WR1, and he’s living up to the expectation. In the first half, Burton has already reeled in two touchdown receptions.

Alabama fans and college football fans from across the nation have taken to Twitter to voice their thoughts on his performance so far.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow Crimson Tide football.

Twitter explodes as Bryce Young flashes athleticism on opening drive

Bryce Young already impressing the nation with his athleticism

Alabama quarterback Bryce Young is coming off of a stellar 2021 season, which included a Heisman Trophy, a conference title win and an appearance in the national championship game.

Now, as he begins his junior season, Young is looking to somehow improve.

In the season-opening drive for the Crimson Tide, Young was forced to scramble outside the pocket, evade defenders and find Traeshon Holden for a big gain.

Alabama fans, and college football fans alike, were impressed by the athleticism he flashed. Whether or not they root for the Crimson Tide, they took to Twitter to share their thoughts on what Young had just achieved.

Alabama CB Eli Ricks not starting against Utah State

Eli RIcks coming off the bench against Utah State

Former LSU cornerback, [autotag]Eli Ricks[/autotag], was maybe the biggest grab out of the transfer portal for Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide this offseason. However, it might take a few more weeks for Ricks to see starting time as he will be second string today against Utah State.

Saban elected to go with McKinstry and Arnold to start, but Ricks will get a chance to showcase his abilities throughout the night. Tyler Harrell, another huge portal addition, will also be out this evening against the Aggies.

Alabama vs Utah State Game Preview

Why Utah State Will Win

The Aggies have a game logged in.

It was rough, and it took a little bit to get going, but that’s why you play UConn at home. Calvin Tyler ran for 161 yards, Logan Bonner was a solid 20-of-29, and the offense cranked up 542 yards.

Obviously, that’s UConn and not Bama, but the defending Mountain West champs have a quick-hitting attack that can do a little of everything, the defense should be better after an improved year, and …

Week 1 CFN College Football Expert Picks

Why Alabama Will Win

UConn ran for 245 yards and averaged over six yards per carry against the Aggies.

The Utah State defensive front isn’t going to get into the backfield enough, and the secondary that wasn’t exactly tested against the Huskies will have to hold up with Bryce Young getting more than enough time to work.

College football should be reintroduced to Georgia Tech transfer Jahmyr Gibbs. The gaping holes will be there – UConn’s Nathan Carter ran for 190 yards averaging close to ten yards per pop. Expect to see home run after home run from the ground attack.

Week 1 Schedule, Predictions, Game Previews, Saturday

What’s Going To Happen

Alabama will win without a problem, but how sharp the team looks out of the gate?

Can Young get in sync with his new main receivers and just how explosive are all the parts to the attack?

Utah State won’t be a total pushover – Bonner is a good, veteran quarterback, and the offense has parts.

There will be just enough production from the Mountain West club to give Nick Saban something to honk about all week – Utah State has either won or lost by a touchdown or less in five of its last six games against Power Five teams, with the one blowout loss coming to 2019 LSU – but there won’t be a whole lot of drama.

It’s Alabama in a season opener. Bad things are going to happen.

“UNLV might be pretty good this year” Or Idaho St. might be really, really bad this year. The Bengals were picked 11th (of 12) in the Big Sky preseason poll and let UNLV hit big play after big play—including 35 points in the second quarter. While the Rebels may be improved this year, it’s tough to gather too much playing against a team with 51 (!) new players on the roster. Frankly, it’s a little concerning that they allowed Idaho St. to get three scores, one of which came when the game was still competitive. Let us remember 2015, when the Rebels walloped ISU in a 80-8 rout. UNLV’s record that year? 3-9. Still, Doug Brumfield looked great and the recruiting efforts from Marcus Arroyo are starting to bear some fruit. The true test for the Rebels will come in a week when they travel to Berkeley for a tilt with Cal.

“Timmy Chang might be in over his head”  Hawaii’s performance vs. Vanderbilt was rough, there’s no way around that one. Is it time to declare that Chang can’t succeed as a head coach? Absolutely not. As was pointed out on Twitter, June Jones’ first game at UH was a 62-7 loss to a 6-6 USC team in 1999.

It will take Chang—who had no previous head coaching experience—some time to figure it out. The Rainbow Warriors will get a much easier test this week vs. Western Kentucky, who at times struggled with FCS Austin Peay in Week 0.

“Utah St. is headed for a down year after struggling to put away UCONN”  Despite winning 31-20 last Saturday, Utah St.’s performance was a little head scratching—or was it? UCONN has been absolutely horrific the last few years but the hiring of Jim Mora has clearly brought new life to the program. This is obviously not the same UCONN team that was clowned by Holy Cross last year and while Utah St.’s run defense (or lack thereof) was concerning, it may not look all that bad after a few more weeks of play. Now, the Aggies get a chance at a moral victory vs. Alabama this week (as 42 point underdogs, covering the game will count as a moral victory at this point). It’s not quite time to pull the panic button in Logan yet.

“Nevada didn’t miss a beat after losing Norvell and the majority of last year’s roster”  Nevada beat New Mexico St. 23-12 in Week 0 when a lot of pundits had the Wolfpack on upset alert. They won, yes, but they did it in the least impressive way possible as the Aggies missed field goals, threw multiple interceptions on the Nevada side of the field and gave away a fumble. Say what you will about NMSU’s performance but Nevada’s was equally concerning (ok, maybe not equally). Given the stat line, Nevada should have rolled the Aggies but somehow the game felt somewhat in doubt during the second half. The 11 point win is deceiving and the Wolfpack are on upset alert this week, this time at home vs. Texas St. A strong performance vs. the Bobcats will actually bring renewed optimism to Nevada’s “rebuild,” but considering the spread has gone from Texas St. +8 to Texas St. +1, most aren’t “buying” Nevada’s Week 0 performance.

“Wyoming didn’t look that bad, maybe Illinois will be one of the better teams in the Big Ten”  Is this the beginning of the end for the Craig Bohl era at Wyoming? The Cowboys looked horrific vs. Illinois. Andrew Peasley, Wyoming’s QB, threw for a total of  30 yards (and a pick). The defense wasn’t much better. It was expected to be a down year for the Cowboys after losing most of their key pieces to the transfer portal but I don’t think anyone expected this. Who knows, maybe Illinois will be the surprise team in the Big Ten this year and Wyoming will be “friskier” as the new faces start to gel but that’s the best case scenario. The far more likely scenario is that Illinois is a bottom half Big Ten team and Wyoming is one of the worst FBS teams in the country this year. Bohl’s seat is warming by the minute.

5 reasons why Alabama gets the win over Utah State

5 reasons why the Crimson Tide won’t have much trouble taking down Utah State

The Alabama Crimson Tide head into the 2022 college football season with only one goal on their mind, a national title. The first step to achieving this goal is to take care of the Utah State Aggies who come to Tuscaloosa this weekend for a showdown in Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Alabama currently enters the game as a 41.5-point favorite over Utah State per Tipico Sports, suggesting the Tide should have their way. However, don’t expect Alabama to be caught sleeping walking to start the season, Nick Saban has been preparing for the Utah State Aggies as if they were the 2007 New England Patriots.

So here are five reasons why the Tide should walk away victorious:

Experts make their picks for Alabama vs. Utah State in Week 1

CFB experts make their picks for Alabama’s Week 1 matchup against Utah State.

Alabama football is set to begin its 2022 college football season at home against Utah State. There are a lot of question marks on this Crimson Tide team as many starters, especially on offense, left for the NFL.

Though Alabama is heavily favored, Utah State is a team that surprised many with its 2021 performance. The Aggies will also enter this game with the first-game nerves out of the way.

Utah State is undefeated this season (1-0) and the Crimson Tide are still searching for its first win (0-0). The storylines are plentiful in this matchup.

Here’s how the experts predict this game to go.

Areas of concern for Alabama heading into Week 1 against Utah State

Roll Tide Wire addresses areas of concern for Alabama’s Week 1 matchup with Utah State.

Alabama returns the majority of its starters from a season ago. The only starters that departed for the NFL are Evan Neal, Jameson Williams, John Metchie III, Josh Jobe and Phidarian Mathis. During the offseason, the coaching staff made it a priority to replace those players with transfers.

The Crimson Tide will lean on Jahmyr Gibbs, Eli Ricks, Tyler Harrell and Tyler Steen to fill those roles. All are expected to play key roles on their respective side of the ball.

Last season, Alabama had no trouble offensively. With Heisman winner Bryce Young returning, the offense is expected to take even larger strides this season. It certainly won’t be easy to replace the departure of three starting wide receivers from a season ago declaring for the NFL.

Today, Roll Tide Wire will take a look at some areas of concern for the Crimson Tide heading into their Week1 matchup versus Utah State.
