Every Super Bowl halftime show performer since the first one in 1967 (2024 edition)

A look at every Super Bowl halftime show performer from the last several decades.

Editor’s note: This story was originally published in 2023 and has been updated.

There’s a little something for everyone when it comes to the Super Bowl. Some are there for the obvious reason: football. But plenty of other people tune in just to watch the very expensive ads, while others are hanging out for the halftime show.

The Super Bowl halftime show is a very big deal for a mini concert that most people watching are, in fact, watching from afar. With superstar artists often headlining the shows, fans are treated to fun performances (though there have been some not great ones as well), plus the nearly guaranteed memes and jokes that follow.

Super Bowl 58 will bring together some of the NFL’s and the music industry’s top talent with global superstar Usher performing the 2024 Super Bowl halftime show.

Having Usher perform is a huge gift, and we’re not saying he should, but if he gets inspired to bring out some of his musical celebrity friends to perform with him, we are not going to complain.

Here’s our ultimate wish list of guest stars we hope to see with Usher:

LeBron James, BTS’ Jungkook sing ‘Yeah!’ in trailer for Usher’s Super Bowl 58 halftime show

There’s not a chance LeBron James knows any lyrics, but Jungkook knows what’s up.

A new Apple Music trailer promoting Usher’s Super Bowl Halftime Show just dropped, and it’s sneaky good.

Usher will grace the Super Bowl LVII stage on Sunday, February 11, a fitting follow-up to his incredible Las Vegas residency, where he sold out every show.

When Apple originally announced Usher’s performance in September 2023, they included an ode to one of his best songs, Confessions, and pushed out alternate versions with the help of several celebrities like Kim Kardashian and Deion Sanders.

But the latest trailer is a rolling mashup of several people and objects re-creating Yeah!, his most famous songAs the clip zooms through, our eyes caught special appearances from LeBron James and Jungkook of BTS.

In case you’re as excited as we are for Usher’s performance, we made a list of 13 songs that we feel will really get the people going.

13 songs Usher should perform at the 2024 Super Bowl

Everyone calm down! We have the list of songs we want Usher to perform at the Super Bowl.

Usher is performing at the Apple Music Super Bowl Halftime Show, and millennials everywhere just pulled a muscle busting out dance moves from the 8701 album. (OK, maybe that was just me, but somebody will catch these moves!)

Usher’s been tearing up his Las Vegas residency since July 2022, bringing childlike joy to his most devoted fans. Now, he’s taking his talents to one of the world’s biggest stages.

When I saw him during his residency’s opening night, he reflectively said, “I got hits, man.” He then blazed through several songs he didn’t have enough time for in his show as a quick ode to those who’ve been with him for decades. That’s when I realized: Usher is that guy!

I put together a list of songs I think he should perform to celebrate this halftime show that is obviously curated for me to scream in my living room like I’m 13 again.

Here’s what Usher needs to perform or we riot:

NFL reveals Super Bowl 58 halftime performer: Usher

Usher has been named the halftime act for Super Bowl 58

The annual guessing game of who will perform at halftime of the Super Bowl is over for another year. It was announced on Sunday the featured act will be R&B singer Usher.

The reveal came with the usual appreciation and plaudits:

“It’s an honor of a lifetime to finally check a Super Bowl performance off my bucket list. I can’t wait to bring the world a show unlike anything else they’ve seen from me before,” said Usher. “Thank you to the fans and everyone who made this opportunity happen. I’ll see you real soon.”

“Usher is an icon whose music has left an indelible mark on the cultural landscape throughout his career, we couldn’t be more excited to have him headline this year’s Apple Music Super Bowl Halftime Show,” said Seth Dudowsky, NFL head of music.

“Usher is the ultimate artist and showman. Ever since his debut at the age of 15, he’s been charting his own unique course. Beyond his flawless singing and exceptional choreography, Usher bares his soul,” said Jay-Z. “His remarkable journey has propelled him to one of the grandest stages in the world. I can’t wait to see the magic.”

The Super Bowl will be played at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Feb. 11, 2024. The game will be broadcast on CBS.

Usher announced as Super Bowl 58 halftime show headliner with help from Kim Kardashian, Deion Sanders and more

Usher is headlining the Super Bowl 58 halftime show in Vegas.

Want to see something cool? Watch this.

We finally got an answer to who’s headlining the Apple Music Super Bowl LVIII halftime show at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on February 11, and it’s none other than Usher.

Apple announced the You Got It Bad singer as the headliner in different edited versions of the classic video for his 2004 hit Confessions, Pt. II. Kim Kardashian, Deion Sanders, Marshawn Lynch, Odell Beckham Jr. and even Usher himself were all enlisted to act out the scenes in between Usher’s sketch from the old video, but instead of telling him about what happened with the chick from Part 1, they pretend to tell him about the Super Bowl.

Usher makes a lot of sense for the Vegas Super Bowl for several reasons. In addition to the countless hit songs he has to perform, he’s been doing a residency in Vegas for the last year that’s been so successful it was recently extended through December.

Usher follows Rihanna, Dr. Dre and The Weeknd as the most recent Super Bowl halftime show headliners.

10 Tiny Desk concerts you’ve got to play again and again, from Usher to Adele

These 10 Tiny Desk Concerts will always get the vibes right.

Usher blessed our YouTube feeds, Twitter timelines, and whatever other social media platforms we use nearly a week ago with an amazing Tiny Desk concert.

His performance made me fall down the YouTube rabbit hole of NPR Tiny Desk videos that have come out over the years and I found myself, almost an hour later, re-listening to all of the great ones.

The experience led me to an idea: I figured it would be cool to piece together a quick little ranking of my top 10 Tiny Desk concerts that you need to listen or re-listen to (Usher is in there!).

So, here we go:

Usher dancing while saying ‘watch this’ from his Tiny Desk Concert has become an epic meme

You’ve got to watch this hilarious Usher meme that’s everywhere.

The competition for Meme of the Summer (and of the Year?) is already getting hot.

There’s the Brian Windhorst “Now, why is that?” meme. But given my Twitter timeline, there’s another one in the running: It’s Usher doing a dance move — I believe it’s got a touch of the Watusi? — as he sings his classic Confessions Part II for his NPR Tiny Desk Concert last month.

And as he does it, he whispers, “Watch this.”

Yep, it became a huge meme, so we’ve gathered up some of the best ones we’ve seen and put them together below. So, uh, watch this:
