New Orleans Breakers vs. Philadelphia Stars odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s New Orleans Breakers vs. Philadelphia Stars odds and lines, with expert USFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The New Orleans Breakers (4-1) face the Philadelphia Stars (2-3) Sunday for a Week 6 USFL game at Ford Field in Detroit. Kickoff is set for noon ET (FS1). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Breakers vs. Stars odds, and make our expert USFL picks, predictions and bets.

The Breakers suffered their first setback of the season last week on a neutral field in Birmingham, losing to 17-10 as a 7-point favorite against the Memphis Showboats. The 10 points was easily the lowest of the season.

New Orleans has had a bit of a power outage on offense lately, posting just 30 total points in the last 2 games after averaging 35.0 PPG in the first 3 contests. The defense has actually been strong, yielding just 17.0 PPG in the 2 losses, after allowing 25.7 PPG in the 1st 3 outings.

The Stars stunned the New Jersey Generals by a 24-21 count last weekend, winning outright as a 6.5-point underdog as the Over (43.5) cashed. It was Philly’s 1st cover since Week 1. The Over is 3-2 overall, including each of the last 2 weekends.

The 24 points produced by the Stars was also the most since Week 1, when Philadelphia produced 27 points in Memphis. The defense has yielded 21 or more points in all 5 games this season.

Breakers vs. Stars picks and predictions

Prediction

Breakers 25, Stars 16

Moneyline

New Orleans (-300) cannot be trusted after losing outright last week as a 7-point favorite. Plus, risking 3 times your potential return is just a foolish standalone wager, and it isn’t a good long-term betting strategy playing such heavy favorites. In fact, even as part of a multi-team parlay, including New Orleans isn’t a good idea.

PASS.

Against the spread

NEW ORLEANS -7.5 (-115) has been leaking oil lately on offense, managing just 30 total points in the last 2 weekends. However, facing a Philadelphia +7.5 (-105) defense, which has yielded at least 21 points in all 5 games should be the elixir to cure its ills.

While the Breakers failed to cover last week, they’re still 4-1 ATS overall, while the Stars are just 1-3 ATS in the last 4 outings. Back NOLA, but do so lightly.

Over/Under

UNDER 47.5 (-105) is a solid play in this neutral-site affair.

The Under has cashed in each of the last 2 outings for New Orleans. While I expect the offense to be better for the Breakers, as the Stars just cannot stop anybody, I am still very impressed by the New Orleans defense. It has been consistent, and I see Philadelphia struggling to put up points.

The Panthers lost for the 3rd straight week in Week 5, falling 23-7 to the Pittsburgh Maulers as 3.5-point favorites. The Under (42) easily cashed.

Stallions vs. Panthers picks and predictions

Prediction

Stallions 27, Panthers 13

Moneyline

The Panthers have lost 3 straight games while scoring a combined 30 points. Michigan has failed to score more than 13 points in a game since Week 2.

The Stallions (-225) lead the USFL in scoring at 28.8 points per game and have the largest point differential at +40, but there is no money to be made on the moneyline at such a steep price.

PASS.

Against the spread

The Stallions are +40 in point differential on the season and 2 of their 3 wins were by at least 17 points.

The Panthers have lost each of their last 3 games by at least 15 points.

BET STALLIONS -5.5 (-110).

Over/Under

The Panthers have not had a game with a total higher than 42 this season.

Only 2 of the Stallions’ 5 games have had more than 44 points this season.

The Panthers have not scored more than 13 in their last 3 games.

BET UNDER 44.5 (-110).

Pittsburgh Maulers at Memphis Showboats odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Pittsburgh Maulers at Memphis Showboats odds and lines, with expert USFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The Pittsburgh Maulers (2-3) travel to meet the Memphis Showboats (2-3) Saturday for a Week 6 USFL game at Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. ET (USA Network). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Maulers vs. Showboats odds, and make our expert USFL picks, predictions and bets.

Pittsburgh defeated Michigan 23-7 last week, winning outright as  a 3.5-point underdog in Detroit.

The Maulers opened the season with a pair of losses and non-covers, but Pittsburgh has won 2 of the past 3 games while covering the spread in all 3. Pittsburgh averaged just 9.0 points per game PPG in the first 2 outings and allowed 21.0 PPG. In the previous 3 contests, the Maulers averaged 21.3 PPG and surrendered 14.7 PPG.

Memphis also won as an underdog in Week 5, upending New Orleans 17-10 as a 7-point dog in Birmingham.

The Showboats opened with 3 straight losses, including an ugly 42-2 defeat at Birmingham in Week 2, but the Boats have bounced back. They won their past 2 contests and are on a 3-0 cover streak. Defense has been a big reason for the turnaround as it yielded just 10 points in each of the past 2 victories.

Maulers at Showboats picks and predictions

Prediction

Showboats 19, Maulers 15

Moneyline

MEMPHIS (+115) is worth playing straight up as a short dog on its home field.

The Showboats’ current 2-game win streak includes victories against Michigan and New Orleans, which was unbeaten until last week’s loss to Memphis. Defense will be the key to the Showboats’ success at the Liberty Bowl Saturday afternoon.

Against the spread

BACKING MEMPHIS +2.5 (-110) with the spread doesn’t offer plus-money like the moneyline, but if you prefer the 2.5 points of insurance, go for it in what should be a low-scoring, close game.

BET 1.5 UNITS total between the 2 wagers above, whichever way you want to split them up.

The Showboats have covered the spread 3 games in a row, so it’s rather curious that they’re catching points in a home game. Of course, the Boats are 0-2 straight up at the Liberty Bowl, so perhaps that’s the thinking of the sportsbooks for making Memphis the underdog here.

Over/Under

UNDER 41.5 (-110) might be the best play on the board Sunday.

The Under has cashed in back-to-back games, and 3 of the past 4 outings overall for Memphis. After an abysmal showing in its first 3 games, the Boats have showed out on D in the past 2 outings.

The Under is 4-1 in 5 games overall for the Maulers, and Pittsburgh has allowed 20 or fewer points in 3 of the previous 4 contests.

New Jersey Generals vs. Philadelphia Stars odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s New Jersey Generals vs. Philadelphia Stars Week 5 odds and lines, with expert USFL picks, predictions and best bets.

Week 5 of the USFL season continues on Sunday with the New Jersey Generals (2-2) taking on the Philadelphia Stars (1-3). Kickoff at Ford Field in Detroit is at  noon ET (NBC). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Generals vs. Stars odds, and make our expert USFL picks, predictions and bets.

The Generals, after winning 2 games in a row, lost 20-17 to the New Orleans Breakers last week, failing to cover the 2.5-point spread as underdogs. The Under cashed with projected total of 44.5 points.

The Stars, who opened the season with a 27-23 win, have dropped their last 3 games. Last week, they were blown out 41-16 by the Houston Gamblers despite entering the game as 2.5-point favorites.

Generals vs. Stars picks and predictions

Prediction

Generals 24, Stars 17

Moneyline

After scoring 27 points in their opener, the Stars have not scored more than 16 points. They have allowed 21 or more points in every game.

The 20-point mark has been the difference for the Generals. They have won the 2 games they reached 20 points.

But with the Generals favored by so much on the moneyline, -250 is not worth any action.

PASS.

Against the spread

The Generals’ 2 wins this season have been by 15 points while the Stars’ 3 losses have all been by at least 14 points.

BET GENERALS -6.5 (-110).

Over/Under

The Stars have had 2 games get into the 50s for the total. The Generals have not had a game reach the projected total for this game.

BET UNDER 46.5 (-110).

Memphis Showboats vs. New Orleans Breakers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Memphis Showboats vs. New Orleans Breakers odds and lines, with expert USFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The Memphis Showboats (1-3) and New Orleans Breakers (4-0) meet Sunday for a Week 5 USFL game at Protective Stadium in Birmingham, Ala. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET (FOX). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Showboats vs. Breakers odds, and make our expert USFL picks, predictions and bets.

The Showboats picked up their 1st victory of the season last week in Detroit, topping the Michigan Panthers 29-10 to win as 6.5-point underdogs. After opening the season 0-2 against the spread (ATS), Memphis is 2-0 ATS in the last 2 outings. The Over and Under has alternated in each of their 4 contests.

The Breakers have won and covered all 4 games to date, scoring 38 or more points in 2 of the previous 3 outings. The Over/Under, like Memphis, is 2-2 through 4 contests.

Showboats at Breakers picks and predictions

Prediction

Breakers 31, Showboats 20

Moneyline

The Breakers (-300) will cost you 3 times your potential return, and while New Orleans has been dominant this season, that’s still way too costly for a singular bet, or even as part of a multi-team or cross-sport parlay. There is just no value to betting such heavy favorites, and over the long-term it’s a poor betting strategy.

PASS.

Against the spread

The BREAKERS -7 (-110) are worth a look, although I’d certainly be much more excited if it were to slip to -6.5.

New Orleans is 4-0 ATS so far this season, while Memphis is 2-2 ATS. The Showboats have shown some signs of life in the last 2 weekends, going for 27.5 PPG, so Memphis has the pass attack with QB Brady White to make this an uncomfortable margin all afternoon. In the end, however, NOLA just looks too strong. I’d go lightly, however.

Over/Under

OVER 47.5 (-110) might be the best play on the board Sunday.

The Over is 2-2 for each of these teams so far this season. However, the Boats have allowed 27 or more points on 3 occasions, and the Breakers have allowed 31 or more points in 2 of the last 3. In addition, New Orleans has lit up the scoreboard for 34.3 PPG across the last 3 outings, including 38 or more points on 2 occasions. The scoreboard operator might be quite busy in B-Ham Sunday.

Houston Gamblers at Birmingham Stallions odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Houston Gamblers at Birmingham Stallions odds and lines, with expert USFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The Houston Gamblers (2-2) and Birmingham Stallions (3-1) meet Saturday for a Week 5 USFL game at Protective Stadium in Birmingham, Ala. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. ET (FOX). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Gamblers vs. Stallions odds, and make our expert USFL picks, predictions and bets.

The Gamblers routed the Philadelphia Stars 41-16 last weekend in Detroit. Houston’s offense managed just 13 points in a Week 1 loss against Michigan, but the Gamblers have rolled up 30 or more points in their last 3 outings and the Over has cashed in all 4 of their games to date.

The Stallions were on the winning side of a 24-20 score against the Pittsburgh Maulers in Canton, Ohio, in Week 4 but they failed to cover for the 2nd straight outing after going 2-0 straight-up (SU) and against the spread (ATS) in the first 2 outings. The Under also cashed in the first 2 games but Birmingham has hit the Over in its last 2 contests.

Gamblers at Stallions picks and predictions

Prediction

Stallions 34, Gamblers 30

Moneyline

The Stallions (-200) will cost you 2 times your potential return, and that’s just too much risk for not enough reward.

Birmingham’s defense has struggled in the past 2 weekends, allowing 65 total points. It is problematic that Smith and Wright are on the injury report as injured linebackers could open up plenty of open spaces for the Gamblers to operate.

PASS.

Against the spread

The GAMBLERS +4.5 (-110) are worth a look, although circle back around and make sure Bahar is active and ready to play before committing. If he sits, QB Terry Wilson would get the starting nod. He was serviceable last week after Bahar exited with an ankle.

The Stallions have the offense to make plenty of noise, but the defense has struggled lately.

Over/Under

OVER 46.5 (-110) is worth playing Saturday.

The Over has cashed in each of the past 2 games for Birmingham, with the Stallions allowing 65 points during the span. The Stallions have scored 24 or more points in all 4 games, too.

The Gamblers have scored 30 or more points in 3 games in a row and have allowed 26 or more points in 3 of their 4 outings. It could be quite a shootout in Birmingham.

Pittsburgh Maulers at Michigan Panthers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Pittsburgh Maulers at Michigan Panthers odds and lines, with expert USFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The Pittsburgh Maulers (1-3) and Michigan Panthers (2-2) meet Saturday for a Week 5 USFL game at Ford Field in Detroit. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. ET (USA Network). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Maulers vs. Panthers odds, and make our expert USFL picks, predictions and bets.

The Maulers put up a tremendous effort in a 24-20 loss last week against the Birmingham Stallions in a neutral-field game in Canton. Pittsburgh was able to cover as an 8.5-point underdog and is 2-0 against the spread (ATS) in 2 games as an underdog of 6.5 or more points. The Over cashed for the 1st time in 4 outings last week.

The Panthers suffered a 29-10 loss at home against the Memphis Showboats in Week 4. Michigan is 2-0 straight-up (SU) and ATS in 2 games as an underdog, and 0-2 SU/ATS in 2 games when favored. The Under has cashed in 3 consecutive outings for the Panthers and the offense has posted just 11.5 points per game (PPG) over the past 2 contests.

Maulers at Panthers picks and predictions

Prediction

Maulers 22, Panthers 18

Moneyline

The MAULERS (+145) are worth a roll of the dice as a moderate underdog.

The Panthers started out as a ball of fire, taking care of the Houston Gamblers and Philadelphia Stars to go 2-0 SU/ATS. However, they’ve picked up losses the last 2 weeks and their point totals have decreased in every game since Week 1, bottoming out at just 10 points last week against Memphis.

Against the spread

The MAULERS +3.5 (-110) are a solid value catching 3 and a hook. Pittsburgh has covered 2 straight outings after opening with a pair of losses and non-covers.

The Panthers have failed to cover each of the past 2 when favored, and they’re unlikely to cash again Saturday afternoon.

Over/Under

UNDER 42 (-110) is worth a look.

The Panthers have cashed the Under in 3 straight games after cashing the Over back in Week 1. The Maulers have hit the Under at a 3-1 clip this season, although they cashed the Over (43.5) last weekend. However, Pittsburgh’s Over was by a half-point against Birmingham in Week 4.

The Maulers have scored 19.7 PPG through 4 games, while the Panthers’ offense is good for just 11.5 PPG in the past 2 outings on offense.

Stallions vs. Maulers picks and predictions

Prediction

Stallions 31, Maulers 17

Moneyline

The Stallions have scored no fewer than 27 points in a game this season and average 33.3 points per game. The Maulers scored a season-high 21 in their win last week, but had only 18 combined points the previous 2 weeks.

But the Stallions are so heavily favored that it doesn’t make sense to bet the moneyline.

PASS.

Against the spread

The Stallions lost last week, but won their previous two games by 17 and 40 points. The Maulers failed to cover the spread in either of their losses and will struggle to keep up with the Birmingham offense.

BET STALLIONS -8.5 (-110).

Over/Under

The Maulers have not had a game reached 40 total points yet this season while twice the Stallions have had totals of 44 or more.

If the Stallions reach the 30-point mark, it will be tough to avoid the Over.

BET OVER 43.5 (-110).

New Orleans Breakers vs. New Jersey Generals odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s New Orleans Breakers vs. New Jersey Generals odds and lines, with expert USFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The New Orleans Breakers (3-0) and New Jersey Generals (2-1) meet Sunday for a Week 4 USFL game at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET (NBC/Peacock). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Breakers vs. Generals odds, and make our expert USFL picks, predictions and bets.

The Breakers have been on fire to start, winning and covering each of the 1st 3 outings. That includes an impressive 45-31 road win as 6-point underdogs against the defending champ Birmingham Stallions last weekend. The offense is averaging a healthy 41.5 PPG across the last 2 outings, while the defense has allowed 31 points in each game.

The Generals scored an impressive 28-13 road win against the Michigan Panthers at Ford Field in Week 3, covering for the 2nd straight outing. The Under has cashed in each of the last 3 outings, allowing just 16 total points in the last 2 contests.

Breakers vs. Generals picks and predictions

Prediction

Breakers 29, Generals 25

Moneyline

The unbeaten BREAKERS (-150) are a decent moderate favorite in this neutral-site battle, if you don’t want to fiddle around with the points and wish to just pick a winner straight up.

New Orleans has been on fire out of the game, although the Generals (+125) have been pretty sharp over the last 2 games, especially defensively.

Against the spread

The BREAKERS -2.5 (-110) are an attractive play as long as this stays under a flat 3 or 3 and a hook.

New Orleans has covered all 3 of its games to date, although the Generals +2.5 (-110) have been solid on defense in the last 2 weekends.

Still, I like the overall body of work better for the Breakers, and I think they’re more balanced on offense. The Gens have a strong rushing attack, but it remains to be seen if it can move the ball through the air when needed.

Over/Under

OVER 44.5 (-110) has been the go-to play when the Breakers are involved. They can score plenty of points, and New Orleans has allowed 31 points in each of the last 2 contests.

There is risk here, however, as the Generals have cashed the Under in all 3 games to date. Still, the Stallions put up 27 on this defense, and their offense is on par with the Breakers, if not a little less. I expect New Orleans will be able to solve New Jersey, and flirt with 30, and the Gens should find plenty of open spaces against a giving Breakers D, too.

Memphis Showboats vs. Michigan Panthers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Memphis Showboats vs. Michigan Panthers odds and lines, with expert USFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The Memphis Showboats (0-3) and Michigan Panthers (2-1) meet Saturday for a Week 4 USFL game at Ford Field in Detroit. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET (NBC/Peacock). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Showboats vs. Panthers odds, and make our expert USFL picks, predictions and bets.

Memphis failed to grab its first win in a 30-26 loss to the Houston Gamblers in Week 3, but it did hang on for the cover (+4.5) at most shops. That performance was a bounceback for the Showboats following a 42-2 loss at the Birmingham Stallions in Week 2.

The Panthers suffered their first setback of the season in Week 3, losing 28-13 to the run-happy New Jersey Generals. It was also Michigan’s first non-cover in 3 tries, while the Under has cashed in consecutive weeks for the Panthers.

Showboats vs. Panthers picks and predictions

Prediction

Panthers 29, Showboats 18

Moneyline

The Panthers (-250) look to rebound after their 1st setback of the season last weekend in the team’s debut at Ford Field. Michigan should be able to find plenty of open spaces against a very giving Showboats defense.

PASS.

Against the spread

The PANTHERS -6.5 (-110) are a strong play, especially if this line remains under 7.

The Showboats picked up their 1st cover of the season in Week 3, but being without former NFL tailback Alex Collins is a huge loss for this offense.

Look for the Michigan offense to bounce back this week, and the defense should be much better, too.

Over/Under

OVER 45 (-110) is the lean, but go with a half-unit play at most.

The Panthers allowed just 11.5 PPG in the 1st 2 games of the season but New Jersey was able to put up 28 on them last week.

The Showboats have the passing game to be somewhat effective, and they might be more pass-heavy with Collins on the shelf. Memphis has been abysmal on the defensive side, coughing up 27 or more points in all 3 games, for an average of 33.0 PPG.
