Florida still unranked in Week 5 USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll

The USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll still has Florida unranked after Week 5, but the Gators’ game against Eastern Washington wasn’t considered in the update after being pushed to Sunday.

The Week 5 USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll update came out during the first half of Florida’s game against Eastern Washington. Hurricane Ian forced UF to move the game back a day, and that the voters don’t wait for Sunday games to be completed to submit votes.

As one might expect, the Gators remained unranked with no new tape on deck, but their play in the first half against Eastern Washington may warrant an extra look. If Florida can hold on to the win and handle a Missouri team that challenged Georgia next week, it might be able to jump back into the top 25 before hosting LSU.

Speaking of Georgia, the Bulldogs fell back to No. 2 on the list behind Alabama after a narrow win over the Tigers. As far as the rest of the SEC, Tennessee moved up a spot to No. 8 on a bye week after Kentucky fell to Ole Miss; the Wildcats fell to No. 13 and the Rebels climbed into the top 10.

Mississippi State moved into the top 25 at No. 20 after beating Texas A&M, and Arkansas rounds out the group at No. 25 despite losing to the Aggies a week ago. Go figure.

Five teams jumped 10 spots or more this week to move into the top 25, so there’s still hope for Florida to return to relevance. Baylor is 3-2 and ranked No. 22 this week. The Bears have lost to No. 9 Oklahoma State by 11 and No. 19 BYU by six points. Florida’s losses are to No. 7 Kentucky by 10 and No. 8 Tennessee by five points, but the Gators also have a win over No. 12 Utah.

The numbers say that Florida should be ranked, but it’ll take two-straight wins to convince the coaches with a vote.

Ranking college football’s remaining undefeated teams after Week 5

The latest USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll was released Sunday ahead of Week 6.

Below is the top 10, including Tennessee, of this week’s USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll. The entire USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll can be viewed here.

Ohio State gains more first place votes, remains at same spot in USA TODAY Coaches Poll

Ohio State gains some more first-place votes in the latest USA TODAY Coaches Poll. #GoBucks

Ohio State is starting to turn heads a little more than it was at the beginning of the year after another offensive explosion, this time against a respectable (or so we think) Wisconsin defense.

With the USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll, it’s apparent that at least some voters are starting to take a little more notice. Though the Buckeyes still remained at No. 3 behind both Georgia (1) and Alabama (2), they did pick up a few more first-place votes, now receiving four instead of just one.

There’s still a decent gap between ‘Bama and Ohio State, but it is closing, and frankly, it doesn’t really matter.

The rest of the poll has some significant changes because of some upsets inside the latter part of the top ten and beyond and we’ve got the rest of the top ten counted down for you below, starting from No. 10 to No. 1.

LSU still receiving votes in latest USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll

The Tigers doubled their votes to four this week, but they still sit outside the top 25.

The Tigers looked good once again on Saturday night as they won their third-straight game, this time in shutout fashion against New Mexico in the final tuneup before the team begins its main SEC slog.

LSU seems to be improved from Week 1, but it is still likely a big win from finding itself ranked in the top 25. In the latest USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll, coach Brian Kelly’s team received four votes, doubling its total from last week. Still, the team sits a bit of a way from the rankings.

As far as the rest of the SEC, Georgia and Alabama remained No. 1 and 2, respectively, while No. 8 Kentucky and No. 9 Tennessee both sit in the top 10 after the latter took down Florida for just the second time since 2004. Ole Miss is up to No. 11, and Texas A&M is up to No. 17 after its big win over Arkansas.

The Razorbacks, meanwhile, fell nine spots to No. 19.

Florida unranked in USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll following Tennessee loss

The Gators fell out of the top 25 but are still within striking distance for a return.

Florida’s 38-33 loss to Tennessee on Saturday caused the Gators to drop in the Week 4 USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll. After a 2-2 start to the season and an 0-2 start against the SEC, UF finds itself unranked despite narrowly losing to a pair of now top-10 opponents.

At this point in the season, no two-loss team is going to make the top 25. Most Power Five programs aren’t facing three ranked opponents through the first four weeks of the season, so Florida’s strength of schedule hurts them here. The good news is that things should pay off in the long run. If Tennessee and Kentucky stay strong throughout the season, Florida’s losses to them will look far less worrisome.

Of course, Florida has to win a few games to get back into the top 25. Wins over Eastern Washington and Missouri won’t do much for the Gators’ ranking, but taking two of three from LSU, Texas A&M and Georgia would. The Aggies just beat a good Arkansas team to regain some prestige, so that game now looks like a must-win at this point if Florida is going to get back into the fold.

As far as the rest of the SEC goes, Georgia and Alabama sit on top of the rankings, Kentucky and Tennessee are at Nos. 8 and 9, respectively, Ole Miss is No. 11, Texas A&M is No. 17 and Arkansas is No. 19.

If it makes the Florida faithful any better, Miami also fell out of the top 25 this week after losing to Middle Tennessee State. Florida State did take over the No. 22 spot from UF, though.

Oklahoma suffers sharp fall in USA TODAY Sports Coaches poll after Kansas State loss

The Oklahoma Sooners fell out of the top 10 in the latest USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll after losing to Kansas State.

Not unexpected, the Oklahoma Sooners took a tumble in the latest USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll after their 41-34 loss to the Kansas State Wildcats. The Sooners fell from No. 6 to No. 16 after the upset loss at the hands of the Wildcats.

It was Oklahoma’s third loss in four years and second straight home loss to Chris Kleiman’s Wildcats.

The Sooners fell behind early in the game as Adrian Martinez methodically worked down the field to help Kansas State jump out to a 14-0 lead. Though Oklahoma recovered to tie the game in the second quarter, Martinez and Deuce Vaughn continued to make life difficult for the Oklahoma defense.

The top five remained the same from last week, with Georgia atop the Coaches Poll at No. 1. Alabama is just five points back from their SEC rival. Ohio State is No. 3, and Michigan came in at No. 4. Clemson is No. 5, and replacing Oklahoma in the top six are the USC Trojans, who won a nailbiter vs. Oregon State.

Oklahoma State takes over as the highest-ranked Big 12 team at No. 7 in the nation. The Baylor Bears are at No. 14 in the country after hanging on against Iowa State.

The Sooners aren’t completely out of it, but now have no margin for error as they get set to go on the road to face the undefeated TCU Horned Frogs.

Wisconsin stays on the outside looking in of the latest USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll

Wisconsin football remains on the outside looking in of the latest USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll:

Even after a dominant victory over the New Mexico State Aggies, the Wisconsin Badgers have continued to drop in the latest USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll.

Related: LOOK: Wisconsin rebounds against New Mexico State 66-7

The Badgers received only four votes this week after receiving nearly 40 last week following their loss to Washington State. Wisconsin remains unraked, but several Big Ten teams have moved significantly in the latest poll, including Michigan State after their loss to Washington.

The USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll top 10 for this week includes Arkansas(10), Kentucky(9), Oklahoma State(8), Southern California(USC)(7), Oklahoma(6), Clemson(5), Michigan(4), Ohio State(3), Alabama(2) and Georgia(1).

The Badgers will face their biggest challenge of the season next week on the road against the No. 3-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes.

Below are the Big Ten teams featured in the latest USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll:

Florida hangs on to top-25 spot in Week 3 USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll

An ugly performance calls for a dip in the rankings. Florida’s still a top-25 team, according to the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll, but how long will that last?

Florida barely beat USF on Saturday, but the Gators are still ranked in the top 25 of the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll.

UF came in at No. 22 on Sunday’s Week 3 update, a one-spot drop after the Gators fell from No. 19 to 21 last weekend. That feels a bit kind, considering Florida’s struggles at home against a mediocre team, but this is still the same team that upset No. 8 Utah in Week 1.

The Gators face No. 12 Tennessee next week and could move up a few spots with a road win. It’ll be the third ranked matchup of the season for Florida and is essentially a must-win with Georgia and Texas A&M still on the schedule.
