Florida doesn’t gain any votes in latest USA TODAY Sports Coach Poll

Florida didn’t pick up any votes in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll after a bye week, but there was still plenty of movement in the top 25.

It comes as no surprise to see Florida remain unranked in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll after a bye week, but there was still plenty of movement in the top 25 to go over following Week 8.

Georgia and Ohio State remain on top of the college football world, but Tennessee took a step forward to the No. 3 spot to surpass Michigan. The Bulldogs and Volunteers will clash on Nov. 5, which should get now No. 6 Alabama back in the mix one way or another. Clemson is the only 8-0 team in the country and sits rounds out the top five.

As far as the rest of the SEC goes, LSU moved into the top 25 at No. 20 after knocking off a top-10 Ole Miss team that now ranks 12th in the country and Kentucky continued its slow climb back toward the top 15 despite not playing a game thius week. South Carolina also pulled off a big upset against Texas A&M and rounds out the top 25. If the Gamecocks can hold onto that ranking for two more weeks, Florida will get to face a shot at another ranked win.

Speaking of ranked wins, Florida’s season-opening opponent, Utah, sits at No. 14 with a 5-2 record. It looks like the Utes are legitimate contenders for the Pac-12 title once again, and it will be hard to consider Florida’s win over them anything but a quality one.

Mississippi State received four votes and Arkansas had three. The only school in the state of Florida that picked up a vote this week was UCF with one.

No votes for Florida in USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll following LSU loss

Florida received zero votes in this week’s USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll after a disappointing loss to LSU at home Saturday night.

Florida was on the cusp of breaking into the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll top 25 a week ago after beating Missouri, but a loss to LSU has erased any confidence that was left for UF among coaches with a vote.

The Gators didn’t receive a single vote this week in the Coaches Poll, and it’s hard to put the blame on the offense. [autotag]Anthony Richardson[/autotag] has been up-and-down, but 35 points should have been enough to beat the Tigers. The defense allowed LSU to score on its first seven drives, and a fourth-quarter comeback attempt was denied when [autotag]Gervon Dexter[/autotag] Sr. was called for roughing the passer, negating a game-changing interception.

Florida deserves this unceremonious fall even if the team hasn’t technically been ranked in weeks. With the new No. 1, Georgia, up next after a bye week, Florida probably won’t be climbing the rankings any time soon either.

As far as the rest of the SEC goes, Tennessee jumped to No. 4 after beating Alabama as time expired in Knoxville. Pandemonium ensued, but ‘Bama only fell to No. 6 in the end and the Vols still have to take on UGA to win the SEC East. It should be a fun battle between those three teams at the top down the stretch, assuming everyone can win the games they are supposed to.

Ole Miss is now No. 7, Kentucky is No. 18 and Mississippi State is the final ranked SEC program at No. 24. LSU is on the cusp of breaking into the top 25 with 51 votes and an unofficial ranking of No. 26, but Ole Miss is up next week.

Gators remain unranked in USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll following win over Mizzou

Florida is still unranked in the Week 6 USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll despite notching its first conference win of the year.

The Florida Gators didn’t creep back into the USA Today Sports Coaches Poll Top 25 following a win over the Missouri Tigers on Saturday, but UF did pick up a few more votes (52) as it prepares to face LSU next week.

The top 10 on the list remained unchanged, with Alabama, Georgia and Ohio State clearly at the top. Michigan is lurking at No. 4, but things will sort themselves out at the end of the season when OSU and UM meet up for “The Game.”

Tennessee and Ole Miss are the other two SEC teams in the top 10 at Nos. 8 and 9, respectively. Mississippi State jumped up six spots to No. 17 after beating Arkansas, and the Razorbacks fell out of the top 25. Kentucky fell nine spots to No. 22 after a loss to South Carolina. The Wildcats are in danger of falling out of the top 25 with MSU and Tennessee coming up on the schedule.

Florida could make an appearance with a convincing win over the Tigers next week. The Gators are currently 4-2 and have a win over No. 19 Utah, another 4-2 team, but Florida hasn’t really put together that signature win that would solidify the team among the nation’s elite. Perhaps the LSU game will be the one to put Florida back on the map.

USA TODAY Coaches Poll remains stubborn at the top. Where is Ohio State?

A look at the newly released USA TODAY Coaches Poll shows how stubborn voters (coaches) can be and how little they actually watch the games.

The USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll is out after Week 6, and it is more or less status quo at the top despite what we’ve all seen happen over the last few weeks. Ohio State continues to dazzle while Alabama continues to escape defeat. Georgia bounced back against one of the also-rans for the SEC that Penn State handled about the same.

Regardless the Buckeyes remain at No. 3 with Alabama (1), and Georgia (2) still ahead of the scarlet and gray. The rest of the top ten is the same as last week without an upset to speak of, but there was movement in the rest of the poll.

Here’s a look at the top ten of the Coaches Poll, but if you’d like to check out the entire thing, take head on over to USA TODAY to examine the whole thing.

The voters (coaches and or mainly their minions) have been historically stubborn and status quo with voting, and we have a hunch the AP voters may make a move at the top.

We’ll see. For now though, here’s the top ten of the Coaches Poll.

Ohio State picks up more first place votes, closes gap on Alabama and Georgia in USA TODAY Coaches Poll

Ohio State picks up even more first-place votes this week and continues to close the gap. Should the gap already be closed completely is the real question?

A little at a time I guess.

The Ohio State football team seems to continue to be penalized by looking like a work in progress during Week 1 vs. Notre Dame. Since then, though, the Buckeyes have continued to look like what we thought they would on offense, with the defense continuing to be much more productive and aggressive than what we saw last season.

After the last impressive win over Rutgers, Ohio State still remained at No. 3 in the USA TODAY Sport AFCA Coaches Poll, but picked up some more first-place votes and has closed the gap on both Alabama (1) and Georgia (2), who have flipped spots this week.

Both SEC schools have also looked suspect in one or two games this year but seem to not be under the same scrutiny since it happened later in the season. But whatever, it really doesn’t matter anyway because the College Football Playoff rankings are all that mean anything and those don’t come out for a few weeks yet.

Here’s how the top ten of the latest USA TODAY Coaches Poll looks after Week 5, with the complete poll following.
