Broncos RB Phillip Lindsay shares inspiring tweet for undrafted free agents

Broncos running back Phillip Lindsay offered a word of encouragement on Twitter for players who weren’t picked in the NFL Draft.

The 2020 NFL Draft has wrapped up and the Denver Broncos have added 10 (drafted) rookies to their roster. So what happens now to the players that weren’t drafted?

Some of them will sign with teams as undrafted free agents. Denver has signed five undrafted free agents so far.

Broncos running back Phillip Lindsay shared an inspiring message for UDFAs on his Twitter page on Thursday evening.

“Remember, come preseason, it doesn’t matter if your name was called in the draft or not,” Lindsay tweeted. “Everyone still has to prove that they belong in the NFL. Its free game once you touch that field, and the best players stay. #Undrafted”

Lindsay, of course, signed with Denver as an undrafted free agent following the 2018 NFL Draft. He went on to become the first undrafted offensive rookie in NFL history to make the Pro Bowl after rushing for 1,037 yards and nine touchdowns in his first season.

Lindsay rushed for 1,000 yards again last season and he will remain a key part of the offense this year, sharing touches with Melvin Gordon.

Broncos signing undrafted free agent OL Hunter Watts

The Broncos are signing undrafted free agent offensive lineman Hunter Watts.

The Denver Broncos are signing undrafted free agent offensive lineman Hunter Watts, the Central Arkansas football program announced on Twitter on Saturday evening.

Watts (6-8, 320 pounds) appeared in four games as a freshman, eight games as a sophomore, 11 games as a junior and 12 games as a senior. He was not invited to the NFL combine earlier this offseason.

In an interview with Damond Talbot of NFL Draft Diamonds last summer, Watts said his best trait was his mentality, perhaps with some of his inspiration coming from “Rocky Balboa,” a character in the film Rocky.

“He was hard working and never let any obstacles get in his way to reach the overall goal,” Watts told Talbot of Balboa, a fictional boxer.

Watts will likely compete with Jake Rodgers, Tyler Jones, Calvin Anderson, Ka’John Armstrong and Quinn Bailey for one of Denver’s backup offensive tackle positions.

Georgia WR Tyler Simmons signs UDFA deal with Houston Texans

Georgia football WR Tyler Simmons has signed with the Houston Texans as an undrafted free agent.

Former Georgia wide receiver Tyler Simmons, who did not get picked in the NFL Draft, has found a new home.

Simmons is going to the Houston Texans in hopes of earning a roster spot.

Speed kills, and Simmons has plenty of it.

A former three star recruit out of McEachern High School in Powder Springs, Georgia, Simmons never really got much of an opportunity to shine in the Bulldogs’ offense.

Georgia did get creative with him, though, as he scored two career touchdowns on the ground via jet sweeps.

In all, Simmons recorded 658 total yards and five touchdowns as a Bulldog.

Oh, and he was onside.

Report: Broncos signing undrafted free agent WR Zimari Manning

The Broncos are signing undrafted free agent wide receiver Zimari Manning.

Even after drafting three wide receivers this week, the Denver Broncos still aren’t done adding wide receivers to the roster.

The Broncos are signing undrafted free agent wide receiver Zimari Manning, according to The Houston Chronicle‘s Aaron Wilson. Manning received a $12,500 signing bonus, according to Wilson.

Manning (6-2, 200 pounds) caught 68 passes for 1,462 yards and 22 touchdowns as a senior at Tarleton State University. He had a monster game against UT Permian Basin last September, catching seven passes for 257 yards and three touchdowns.

Manning ended his two-year career at Tarleton State with 112 receptions for 2,409 yards and 34 touchdowns in 24 games.

After drafting 10 players, Denver only has room to sign three undrafted free agents. The team has already signed two players — Manning and former Vanderbilt quarterback Riley Neal. Unless they make some roster cuts, the Broncos will only have room for one more undrafted free agent signing.

Report: Broncos signing undrafted free agent QB Riley Neal

The Broncos are signing undrafted free agent quarterback Riley Neal.

The Denver Broncos are signing undrafted free agent quarterback Riley Neal, according to a report from NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

Neal (6-6, 225 pounds) spent four years at Ball State before transferring to Vanderbilt for his senior season. Last fall, he completed 57.8 percent of his passes for 1,585 yards with nine touchdowns against five interceptions.

In his college career, Neal completed 59.6 percent of his passes for 8,978 yards with 55 touchdowns against 30 interceptions. He also rushed for 1,410 yards and 15 touchdowns while in college.

In a pre-draft interview with Titans Wire’s Crissy Froyd, Neal spoke about his willingness to go anywhere and compete for a roster spot.

“I think I’ve played a decent amount of football, and I have some experience. I’m someone who is going to come in and work every day, fill whatever role they find necessary,” Neal told Titans Wire.

“I’m not too picky, of course I’ll go anywhere that I’m wanted and that’s good for me. I don’t have any specific criteria for that.”

Neal will become Denver’s fourth-string QB, behind Drew Lock, Jeff Driskel and Brett Rypien. He will have long odds to make the final roster.

Seahawks plan to sign Washington State QB Anthony Gordon as UDFA

The Seattle Seahawks finally added a 2nd quarterback to the roster, signing Washington State star Anthony Gordon as an undrafted free agent.

It was somewhat of a surprise to see the 2020 NFL draft end without Washington State quarterback Anthony Gordon – who threw for a whopping 5,579 passing yards last year – getting drafted.

However, it worked out to the benefit of the Seattle Seahawks, who reportedly agreed to sign him as an undrafted free agent, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

With Geno Smith still an undrafted free agent, Gordon becomes just the second quarterback on Seattle’s roster, behind Russell Wilson.

The Seahawks will certainly bring in one or two more players to compete with Gordon during training camp, but at least for the moment he has the edge on the backup quarterback job.

Gordon’s numbers from his lone season as a starter in Mike Leach’s air raid offense at Washington State are eye-popping. He posted a 48-to-16 touchdown-to-interception ratio with over 5,500 passing yards and a stellar 71.6% completion rate – earning him lots of comparisons to the team’s starter in 2018, Gardner Minshew.

Gordon does not have the awareness and arm strength Minshew has, however, and will have to work on those and a handful of other things to become a successful NFL starter at the next level.

Getting to learn under Russell Wilson will be extremely helpful in that regard, and if he performs well in camp and the preseason there’s a good chance he heads into the 2020 regular season with the Seahawks.

The Redskins have completed their draft, but that doesn’t mean they are finished adding players to their roster.

While the bigger names came off the board during the 2020 NFL Draft, don’t be surprised if the Washington Redskins take some chances on lesser-known guys who didn’t get drafted over the weekend. While many of the NFL’s best players come from the draft, a handful of difference-makers have been found still waiting in the past, waiting to sign with whoever will take them. For instance, the Redskins signed Steven Sims Jr. after the draft in 2019, and he now stands as one of their best receivers.

So who have the Redskins added as UDFAs? Follow along as we track the most up-to-date additions below:

After selecting 10 players in the 2020 NFL Draft, the Denver Broncos will fill their 90-man offseason roster by signing undrafted free agents. Here’s a look at the players that have agreed to terms with the team so far:

1. WR Zimari Manning (source

Note: No undrafted free agent signings are unofficial until confirmed by the team. Players invited to rookie minicamp on a tryout basis are sometimes incorrectly reported as UDFA signings.

Broncos general manager John Elway has done a good job in the past finding gems after the draft. Elway’s list of successful UDFA signings includes cornerback Chris Harris, outside linebacker Shaq Barrett and running backs C.J. Anderson and Phillip Lindsay.

Harris will be added to the team’s Ring of Fame after he retires, Barrett led the NFL in sacks last year, Anderson helped the team win Super Bowl 50 and Lindsay has made the Pro Bowl in each of the last two seasons.

Alexander Johnson, who signed with Denver in 2018, was technically an undrafted free agent signing as well. He emerged as the Broncos’ best inside linebacker last season and will be a key player on defense in 2020.
