Penn State QB commit receives invite to Under Armour All-American Game

Penn State commit receives invite to play in 2024 Under Armour All-America Game.

If he was flying under the radar before, that is no longer the case. Penn State Class of 2024 commit [autotag]Ethan Grunkemeyer[/autotag] continues to be trending up as his recruiting process continues to play out. In addition to seeing his recruiting ranking taking off following a solid showing at the Elite 11 Finals, Grunkemeyer has now received an invitation to play in one of the nation’s elite high school football all-star games.

On Thursday, Grunkemeyer announced he has been invited to play in the Under Armour All-American Game in 2024.

Grunkeyer is the second member of Penn State’s Class of 2024 on board to play in the all-star game. Offensive lineman Donovan Harbour was recently invites to participate in the game as well.

Florida QB commit planning to play in Under Armour All-America Game

Before five-star quarterback DJ Lagway heads to Florida, he’ll play in the Under Armour All-America Game in January.

Willis (Texas) quarterback and Florida commit [autotag]DJ Lagway[/autotag] has long been considered one of the nation’s top quarterback recruits, and he’ll join the rest of the nation’s top players at the [autotag]Under Armour All-America Game[/autotag] in January, according to a recent tweet.

No date has been set for the All-America Game but it should be around the same time as last season’s event, which was held on January 3. Orlando will once again host the game at Camping World Stadium and broadcast on ESPN.

Lagway is known as an elite recruiter and has been working on several blue-chip members of the class of 2024. He wants to be the centerpiece of the best recruiting class in the country, and the Gators are off to a good start so far.

247Sports ranks Florida’s 2024 recruiting class No. 11 overall in the country, with Lagway at the top. Four-star running back Chauncey Bowens joins him on offense, and three more four-star recruits are committed on defense — safety Xavier Filsaime and linebackers Adarius Hayes and Myles Graham.

Lagway is a five-star recruit on the On3 industry ranking, which uses a weighted average from all four major recruiting services. He’s ranked No. 23 overall in the class of 2024 and the third-best quarterback.

Friday Night Notes: Cormani McClain watch, early 2024 recruiting rankings and more

For what it’s worth, McClain posed for photos with some Alabama commits after the game.

USA TODAY High School Sports‘ Friday Night Notes is a weekly high school recruiting recap that looks at the latest news from around the country—from the Class of 2023 to ’24 and beyond.

Lakeland (Fla.) cornerback Cormani McClain is “technically” still committed to Miami. That’s all he would share with reporters leading up to the Under Armour All-American Bowl earlier this week. While that sort of keeps McClain outside of the undecided grouping from the class, he is creating significant buzz…

The latest on McClain comes from Andrew Ivins at 247 Sports, who’s declared him the biggest enigma from the Under Armour game. Apparently McCLain will be making his decision on January 15.

“McClain’s recruitment remains one big mystery. After electing to not sign early despite a near two-month commitment to the Hurricanes, McClain said in an interview with ESPN2 that he will be “signing” Jan. 15, which is not an official signing window. Will McClain be inking some type of paperwork with Miami? It sounds like it, but you never really know with McClain.”

For what it’s worth, McClain posed for photos with some Alabama commits after the game.

McClain’s other finalist is Florida, where he was originally projected to sign before his surprise commitment to Miami in late October.

The wild card to watch here is Colorado, where Deion Sanders became head coach last month. Ever since, they’ve been on a recruiting and transfer tear, including getting 2022’s top overall recruit, cornerback Justin Hunter.

2023 five-star TE Duce Robinson speaks on top contenders

Duce Robinson is one of the top remaining uncommitted prospects in the 2023 cycle.

Five-star tight end Duce Robinson is one of the top remaining uncommitted prospects in the 2023 cycle.

The Arizona product is the No. 1 tight end and No. 30 overall player in the On3 consensus rankings. He possesses a 6-foot-6, 230-pound frame, creating matchup problems for opposing secondaries. Additionally, Robinson holds over 25 offers from top programs across the country.

Robinson has the opportunity to make an impact on both the football field and baseball diamond at the next level. He is a two-sport star who has the chance to hear his name called in the MLB Draft this summer.

Georgia currently holds the majority of the 247Sports crystal ball projections in their favor. Texas, USC and Alabama are looking to make up ground before Robinson signs his letter of intent in February.

Robinson sat down with On3 Sports at the Under Armor All-America game to speak about his top four contenders in his recruitment.

Johntay Cook and Malik Muhammad are excited to get to Texas

“Bringing that 214 tradition to the 512.”

Johntay Cook and Malik Muhammad are two of many Texas signees representing the Longhorns at the Under Armor All-American game in Orlando this week.

Cook has been cooking opposing defensive backs in the practice portion of the camp. The five-star wide receiver has a knack for creating separation and making big plays.

Muhammad is impressive with his athleticism and instincts in Florida so far. He snagged an interception during Friday’s scrimmage and showed off some great reps vs. elite wide receiver talents.

The two are coming off state championship runs for DeSoto and South Oak Cliff, respectively. Cook and Muhammad are ready to bring their championship pedigree to Texas.

Tune in to EPSN at 4 p.m. CT to watch the 2023 Under Armor All-American game. It is the last chance Texas signees have to showcase their skills before arriving on campus.

WATCH: Texas’ 2023 targets are impressing at the Under Armour camp

These Texas targets proved why they are considered the best in the country.

With spring football approaching and the two signing periods behind us, the recruiting world has now shifted its attention to the next high school class.

Texas was able to bring in the No. 5 recruiting class for the 2022 cycle, and based off recent crystal ball predictions, the Longhorns could have another top ranked class on their hands in 2023.

Steve Sarkisian and his staff are in the mix for some of the best recruits in the country, as they are the favorites for prospects like five-star quarterback Arch Manning, five-star running back Rueben Owens, and are also among the favorites for four-star wide receiver Johntay Cook.

Even after the down year in 2021, Sarkisian is still seen as one of the best offensive minds in college football, and with the hiring of Gary Patterson as the special assistant to the head coach, the defense will also see in an improvement on the field and with recruiting.

This past weekend, some of Texas’ targets were in action at the Under Armour camp, and had the chance to showcase why so many schools are vying for their services.

OL signee thrilled to play for ‘star-studded’ staff at Clemson, talks UA All-America Game experience

The Clemson Insider caught up with Greenville (S.C.) four-star Collin Sadler following his participation in the Under Armour All-America Game this past weekend.

“It was great,” Sadler said. “I always enjoy going against the best competition  possible and overall, I just had a really good time down there.”

During the first day of practice in Orlando — University of Houston four-star signee Demetrius Hunter — went down with an injury. Hunter was slated to start at center, but Sadler stepped in at practice until a new center was eventually flown in.

“They asked me if I could snap and I happened to say yes when I have absolutely no idea how to snap,” he said. “I figured that out in one day. I’m willing to do whatever I have to do to get on the field. It’s just one more thing that I can add to my bag of tools.”

The All-America game presented Sadler with the opportunity to play with and against some of his future teammates at Clemson. Sadler, of course, will be an early enrollee and move into campus later this week.

“It was great. I made a whole lot of friends down there. I made some relationships that I’m sure are gonna last a really long time. I’m really thankful for the opportunity to go down there and do that.

“I already know Jeadyn Lukus really, really well, just growing up close to each other. I mean, that’s my dog. But, I got to know Adam Randall really, really well on this trip. I just really enjoyed getting to know him.”

Sadler’s looking forward to the entire 2022 class coming in and being difference-makers, but he’ll be doing so under a new offensive line coach.

Dabo Swinney announced following Clemson’s Cheez-It Bowl win that Robbie Caldwell would be stepping down from his role as Clemson’s offensive line coach and transitioning into an off-field role, where he will serve as the team’s director of high school relations. Thomas Austin will be Caldwell’s on-field replacement.

Sadler was aware that Caldwell would likely be stepping down from his role. Caldwell was very upfront with Sadler and his family about what was going to happen, they just weren’t sure when. He told Sadler the day before early signing day — Dec. 15 — that he would be stepping down following the Cheez-It Bowl, just in case that was a deal-breaker.

“I knew it was coming,” Sadler said. “I’ve already gotten to know Thomas Austin really, really well. The relationship we have is special as well. I’m really looking forward to seeing what he can do, now that he’s taking over.”

“First and foremost, he’s a great guy,” Sadler said of Austin. “He’s a great husband, a great father to his kids. That’s something that really resonates with me, more so than just being a good coach, just knowing that he’s a good person. He has NFL experience. He knows exactly what it takes to get there. I’m really excited to learn from him.”

For Sadler, it’s comforting that Caldwell will still be a part of the program in some way. He considers Caldwell to be family and a grandfather-like figure in his life.

All things considered, Sadler felt like Clemson handled Caldwell’s succession plan with grace.

“Most definitely,” he said. “One thing I’ve learned about Clemson — especially this year — is they always have a plan for everything. Even though there was an outside-in, sort of seemingly ‘catastrophic ‘coaching change, they had a plan for it. They put things in place very quickly. There were no hiccups.”

Sadler is thrilled to play for what he calls a “star-studded” coaching staff in Austin, offensive analyst Tyrone Crowder and offensive graduate assistant Brandon Thomas.

That’s three former Clemson offensive linemen. Who better to learn from?

Five-star LB Harold Perkins commits to Texas A&M over LSU and Texas

Texas will need to find other options at the linebacker.

One of the top remaining prospects in the 2022 recruiting class, five-star linebacker Harold Perkins, has committed to Texas A&M over LSU and Texas.

Perkins announced his future home during the second half of the Under Armor All-America game on Sunday.

He was one of the most sought-after players in the 2022 class. The Cypress product is rated by 247sports composite as the No. 1 linebacker and No. 5 overall prospect in the nation.

The commitment of the five-star makes A&M’s recruiting class the highest-ranked of all time. A huge accomplishment for the Aggies.

As for Texas, with no other major linebacker targets available in the 2022 class, the Horns could look to the transfer portal to find immediate help at the position.

Texas still has five-star offensive lineman Devon Campbell and four-star safety Jacoby Mathews on their boards ahead of the Feb. signing period.
