UNC women’s basketball vs. Ohio State: How to watch NCAA Tournament game

Here’s how you can watch Monday’s second round game of the NCAA Tournament between UNC and Ohio State.

The North Carolina Women’s basketball team survived a first-round battle against St. Johns on Saturday thanks to a big play late by Deja Kelly. With the win, the Tar Heels advanced to the second round and now have a date with No. 3 Ohio State in Columbus on Monday.

UNC is a game away from making back-to-back Sweet 16 appearances and taking a step forward in achieving their ultimate goal. But Monday won’t be an easy task against a good Ohio State program.

The Buckeyes took down No. 14 James Madison in the first round 80-66 to advance.

With Monday’s game looming, here is how you can watch the game in the 2023 NCAA Tournament.

Twitter reacts to UNC’s nail-biting win over St. John’s

Twitter reacts to UNC nail-biting win over St. John’s in round one of the NCAAW tournament.

The dance continues for the North Carolina women’s basketball program after they squeezed out a victory for their first tournament game.

UNC took on St. John’s, and it was a late scare for the Tar Heels but they used their defense to anchor their offense into victory. The pressure North Carolina was able to put on St. John was massive, and if they can replicate that same attack with the ball, then cutting the nets down once the tournament concludes is a true possibility.

Outside of North Carolina’s defense, the energy Tar Heel fans brought at the game and on social media was electric. In addition, the win brought out some significant reaction as fans pondered this being the year UNC would hang another banner.

Now, the Tar Heels turn their attention to No. 3 Ohio State. Both teams had similar success in starting the tournament, and it should be a blockbuster game with a similar playing style. However, before we get to that game, we look at how Twitter reacted to North Carolina’s stealing the win late against St. John’s.

UNC holds off St. John’s to advance to second round of NCAA Tournament

North Carolina continues their dance as they beat St. John’s 61-59 in the first round.

The No. 6 North Carolina women’s basketball team’s road to an NCAA title continues as it beat No. 11 St. John’s, 61-59, on Saturday afternoon.

In addition to Courtney Banghart having a fully healthy UNC team at her disposal, the biggest key to the victory was North Carolina’s ability to defend the paint no matter who came charging in.

In the second quarter, the defensive pressure was at its highest and UNC allowed five points.

As the game continued, the score drew closer as momentum switched back and forth. Finally, with the game tied at 58, Deja Kelly did what she does best: drive to a bucket for a plus-one that gave UNC a three-point lead.

A questionable foul on a 3-point attempt sent St. John’s to the line, but it only sank one of three attempts, giving UNC the 61-59 win.

Kelly finished with 18 points and four rebounds, adding another impressive performance to her resume.

North Carolina will take on No. 3 Ohio State, which dominated its first game of the tournament, 80-66, over James Madison. It will be the first time the Tar Heels face the Buckeyes this season. UNC had a similar outcome over James Madison, winning 76-65 in November.

UNC signee Laila Hull named Gatorade Indiana Girls basketball player of the year

North Carolina women’s basketball signee Laila Hull was named Gatorade Indiana Girls basketball player of the year.

The momentum of the North Carolina women’s basketball program has been building over the years, with top recruits choosing UNC as their home.

As the Tar Heels prepare to compete for an NCAA title, their signee Laila Hull was named the Gatorade Indiana Girls basketball player of the year.

Hull joins other North Carolina signee Reniya Kelly as their state representative for the women’s high school Gatorade player of the year—two players who bring great shooting to an already high-scoring UNC offense.

Hull led Zionsville high school to a 20-3 record, eventually making it to the Class 4A sectional semifinals. The four-star recruit averaged 22.4 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 2.1 assists a game. In addition, the 6’1 small forward was a nightmare for opposing offenses, averaging 2.4 steals and 1.3 blocks per game.

It is hard not to get excited about the team building at UNC.

UNC signee Reniya Kelly named Gatorade Alabama Girls basketball player of the year

North Carolina women’s basketball signee Reniya Kelly was named Gatorade Alabama Girls basketball player of the year.

The momentum of the North Carolina women’s basketball program has been building over the years, with top recruits choosing UNC as their home.

As the Tar Heels prepare to compete for an NCAA title, their signee Reniya Kelly was named the Gatorade Alabama Girls basketball player of the year. Another Kelly doing damage on the court is an excellent sight for UNC as the team culture develops.

Kelly led Hoover High School to a 35-1 record, including a 7-0 run in the region. On the season, Kelly averaged 14.6 points, five assists, and 4.8 rebounds. Along with an excellent offensive game, the point guard’s ability on defense was on full display averaging 2.4 steals per game.

Kelly finishes her High School career as a champion, beating Sparkman high school, contributing 25 of the team’s 55 points. She also finishes as Hoover’s all-time scoring leader, finishing as one of the best to come out of Alabama.

North Carolina enters the NCAA Tournament 21-10 overall and 11-7 in the ACC. They are coming off of an ACC Tournament Quarterfinal loss to Duke.

On the season, UNC has six wins over ranked opponents.

Other notable seeds in their region include: No. 1 Virginia Tech, No. 2 UConn, No. 4 Tennessee and No. 5 Iowa State, who the Tar Heels defeated earlier this season.

Seven ACC programs made the field of 68.

South Carolina, Indiana, Virginia Tech and Stanford are the four No. 1 seeds this season.

This is the third straight season UNC has made the NCAA Tournament. Last year, the Tar Heels advanced to the Sweet Sixteen before falling to top-ranked South Carolina

Kennedy Todd-Williams named to All-ACC second team

North Carolina Tar Heel Kennedy Todd-Williams has been named to the All-ACC second team.

North Carolina’s [autotag]Kennedy Todd-Williams[/autotag] has been named to the All-ACC second team.

Williams has contributed to North Carolina’s success this season, being one of the three players to average double-digits. The other two, Deja Kelly and Alyssa Ustby, find themselves on the All-ACC first team.

The junior guard has improved on the court this season, increasing her points per game from 10.8 to 13.6 points. Williams has also shown her durability, starting 29 of 29 games this season.

William’s best game came in the 70-59 win over Virginia. Todd-Williams tied Kelly for a game-high in points with 21 scored. Williams also tacked on six rebounds and two steals.

Williams is ninth in the ACC for minutes played per game (31.9). The stout defense Williams offers and consistent scoring has been vital for North Carolina, which should only continue as the postseason arrives.

Alyssa Ustby named to All-ACC first team

North Carolina Tar Heel Alyssa Ustby has been named to the All-ACC first team.

North Carolina women’s basketball star [autotag]Alyssa Ustby[/autotag] has been named to the All-ACC first team, joining teammate Deja Kelly.

Ustby has been the ideal player for Courtney Banghart, giving UNC a player who can do it on both ends of the court. She has played an enormous role in North Carolina’s success, starting 73 of 80 games since 2019.

This year has been one of Ustbys’ best, with a career-best 13.2 points per game while averaging a career-high 51% from the field. Utsby’s ability to hit the glass has also seen consistency, leading UNC with 8.7 rebounds per game.

Ustby did spend some time on the sidelines this season, making the first-team nod even more special. She was sidelined due to injury, and the team felt her void going 2-3 in games played without her

Ustby has since returned to the court and already looks like herself. In North Carolina’s 45-41 win against Duke, Ustby finished with nine points, seven rebounds, and three steals.

UNC will be counting on Utsby this postseason as they look to chase gold.

Deja Kelly named to All-ACC first team

North Carolina Tar Heel Deja Kelly has been named to the All-ACC first team for the second year.

North Carolina women’s basketball star [autotag]Deja Kelly[/autotag] has earned a spot on the All-ACC first team for the second year.

The San Antonio, Texas, junior guard has become a household name nationwide, collecting accolades throughout the season. In October, Kelly was named the Phil Knight Invitational MVP. Kelly dominated the tournament. She delivered a memorable performance against Iowa State, finishing with 29 points and eight rebounds.

Kelly has been a great scoring option for UNC, often being the circled player on opposing team charts. Her best performance came in early February against Syracuse, where she had her season-high 32 points on an effective 52% from the field.

Kelly was posed to have a big year, which has shown as her field goal percentage improved and increased assists per game. In addition, Kelly leads UNC in scoring, averaging 16.5 points per game.

The junior will be counted on in the postseason, with North Carolina heading into the tournament as a top 20 team in the nation.

UNC women to play Thursday in ACC Tournament

North Carolina women’s basketball team is scheduled to play Thursday in the ACC Tournament.

The North Carolina women’s basketball program will be in action Thursday as they compete in the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament.

UNC finished the regular season with a 20-9 overall record. Seven of those nine losses came in ACC, where they finished with an 11-7 record.

North Carolina enters the ACC tournament as the seventh seed. Despite a low seeding, it is more telling about how strong the conference is than UNC plays this season. UNC not only beat the top seed in the tournament Notre Dame, but they also swept the third seed Duke Blue Devils.

North Carolina did get a high enough seed that they do not have to play on Wednesday, as they await the winner of Clemson/Pitt.

North Carolina will be at full strength heading into the postseason with star player Alyssa Utsby returning into the lineup. Utsby led the Tar Heels in rebounds this season, averaging 8.7 rebounds. In addition, star guard Deja Kelly led the team in points averaging 16.5 this season.
