2 Georgia Bulldogs earn weekly SEC honors

Georgia’s Carson Beck, Peyton Woodring honored for big performances vs Kentucky…

Georgia Bulldogs Carson Beck and Peyton Woodring have been honored by the SEC for their performances in the Bulldogs’ dominant 51-13 win over then No. 20 Kentucky.

Beck, a first-year starter, completed 28-of-35 passes for a career-high 389 yards and four touchdowns with one interception. Beck became the first Georgia quarterback to throw for at least 300 yards in three consecutive games since Aaron Murray (2013).

Carson Beck is the No. 4 leading passer in the country. Beck has settled into the starting role nicely and is putting up great numbers behind a Georgia offensive line that is pass blocking at an elite level.

Beck is the SEC Co-Offensive Player of the Week for his effort against Kentucky.

Beck wasn’t the only Bulldog to play his best game in the red and black. Woodring, a true freshman, scored a career-high 15 points and connected on all three of his field goal attempts, including a career-long of 42 yards. Woodring also made all six of his point after attempts.

Woodring earned SEC Co-Freshman of the Week honors for a second week in-a-row.

Georgia (6-0) will hit the road in Week 7 to take on the Vanderbilt Commodores (2-5) in Nashville. Kickoff is set for noon and the game will air on CBS.

Georgia vs. Kentucky: Stream, injury report, broadcast info for Saturday

What you need to know as Georgia gets set to take on Kentucky…

The No. 1 Georgia Bulldogs (5-0) are set to take on the No. 20 Kentucky Wildcats (5-0) on Saturday night.

The Bulldogs will need to start off fast against the Wildcats, who dominated Florida 33-14 last week and racked up 329 yards rushing in the process.

That’s easier said than done, though, as Georgia has started off sluggish in both SEC Matchups this season. The Dawgs were down 14-3 headed into halftime against South Carolina, and trailed 10-0 against Auburn last week before another second-half surge.

Georgia has owned Kentucky for some time. The Wildcats haven’t won this matchup since 2009 and Kirby Smart is a perfect 7-0 against Mark Stoops’ team during his tenure in Athens.

The Bulldogs are currently a 14.5 point favorite over the Wildcats, per BetMGM.

Updated Georgia injury report ahead of UGA vs. Kentucky

The Bulldogs are the healthiest they’ve been since fall camp. Updated injury report here…

The No. 1 Georgia Bulldogs (5-0) will take on the No. 20 Kentucky Wildcats (5-0) on Saturday in Sanford Stadium.

The Bulldogs have been crippled by injuries thus far, but they enter this matchup as healthy as they’ve been since fall camp.

Star wide receiver Ladd McConkey (back) played his first snaps of the season against Auburn last week. Running back Kendall Milton (MCL) played five snaps last week after missing most of the South Carolina game and the UAB game. Starting safety Javon Bullard also returned versus the Tigers.

McConkey, Milton and Bullard are expected to play on Saturday, but conditioning is the primary factor when it comes to how many snaps they’ll get.

Several Bulldogs are still working to get back on the field.

Here’s our updated Georgia injury report, including recent quotes from head coach Kirby Smart:

Georgia TE Brock Bowers earns weekly Mackey Award honor

Brock Bowers is the Mackey Award Tight End of the Week…

Georgia All-American tight end Brock Bowers is coming off of his best game of the season at Auburn.

After finishing the first-half with two catches for nine yards, Bowers exploded in the second-half with six grabs for 148 yards and the game-winning touchdown.

The Mackey Award, given annually to the nation’s top tight end, recognized Bowers as the tight end of the week for his performance versus the Tigers. Bowers won the award last season.

Bowers is on track to set multiple all-time Georgia receiving records. At his current pace, Bowers will set the single-season receiving yards record this season, and he is seven scores away from tying Terrance Edwards for the most receiving touchdowns in UGA history. Bowers already owns the single-season receiving touchdowns record.

It’s plays like these that set Bowers apart from the rest.

Brock Bowers has already tied Georgia legend A.J. Green for the second-most receiving touchdowns in school history with 23.

Kirby Smart shares positive update on Georgia RB Kendall Milton

Kirby Smart likes what he’s seen from Kendall Milton ahead of the Kentucky game: ‘He’s been great this week’

There is positive news on the injury front for the No. 1 Georgia Bulldogs (5-0) as they get set to take on the No. 20 Kentucky Wildcats (5-0).

Senior running back Kendall Milton has been limited this season. First it was a preseason hamstring strain and more recently an MCL strain suffered against South Carolina that has kept Milton from playing meaningful snaps.

Milton made an appearance against Auburn last week, but played only five snaps and didn’t carry the ball.

Head coach Kirby Smart said Milton has been great in practice this week.

“He’s been great this week, he looks healthier this week than he did last,” Smart said on the SEC coaches teleconference call on Wednesday. “He’s got some speed. He’s fresh out there, so we’re certainly hoping he can help impact that run game.”

Having Milton healthy is a big boost to a UGA tailback room that has been decimated with injuries. True freshman Roderick Robinson’s status is unclear as he recovers from an ankle injury suffered versus South Carolina, and sophomore Branson Robinson is out for the season with a torn patella tendon suffered in fall camp.

Kickoff versus Kentucky is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET in Sanford Stadium and the game will be carried on ESPN.

Georgia WR Ladd McConkey inks new NIL deal

Ladd McConkey signs new NIL deal

Shuman Farms announced a new partnership this week with Georgia star wide receiver Ladd McConkey, who made his first appearance of the season last week at Auburn. The season-long deal was facilitated by Everett Sports Management.

McConkey is the latest Bulldog to promote Shuman Farms’ sweet onions. Quarterback Stetson Bennett represented them last year. The onion is the official vegetable of the state.

“We’re looking forward to partnering with him this season to help us spread the word about Shuman Farms’ sweet onions as the MVP of any game day spread,” Shuman Farms president and CEO John Shuman said.

McConkey has an name, image and likeness valuation of $137,000, per On3.

McConkey’s return to the lineup is a big boost to Georgia’s wideout room. The junior amassed 89 catches for over 1,200 yards and 12 touchdowns over the last two seasons.

McConkey missed Georgia’s first four games of the 2023 college football season with a back injury.

Social media reacts: Georgia survives Auburn, 27-20

Dawg fans react to Georgia’s close win at Auburn…

Take a breath, Georgia fans. The Bulldogs escaped Auburn with a 27-20 win to move to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the SEC.

Once again, Georgia started sluggishly and trailed the Tigers, 10-0, in the first quarter before tying the rivalry game by halftime.

The Bulldogs made second-half adjustments and were much more efficient in the second half. Quarterback Carson Beck, who made his first-career road start, made multiple clutch throws that helped lead the Dawgs to victory.

Star tight end Brock Bowers looked like a Heisman candidate. The Mackey Award winner finished with eight catches for 157 yards and the game winning touchdown.

The Bulldogs defense allowed 219 yards rushing, but held when Georgia needed it most, sealing the game with an interception by star safety Malaki Starks.

Here’s where Georgia stands in the opinion of Bulldog fans after the Auburn game:

Georgia escapes Auburn 27-20, remains undefeated

Georgia tops Auburn 27-20 in a physical battle on the road…

No. 1 Georgia escaped Auburn with a 27-20 win at Jordan-Hare Stadium.

The Bulldogs’ win wasn’t easy. The Tigers held a 10-0 lead in the first quarter before Georgia tied the game at halftime.

Auburn’s run game was tough to stop. The Tigers rushed for 219 yards, including 125 yards from quarterbacks Payton Thorne and Robby Ashford.

Georgia quarterback Carson Beck started sluggishly, throwing an interception that turned into an Auburn touchdown in the first quarter.

Sophomore tight end Oscar Delp also turned the ball over in the first-half with a costly fumble that led to Auburn points.

The Bulldogs limited mistakes in the second half, though. Beck was efficient, especially on third downs.

Mackey Award-winning tight end Brock Bowers proved the All-American that he is. Bowers finished with eight catches for 157 yards and the game-winning touchdown.

Another bright spot for the Bulldogs was wideout Ladd McConkey, who played his first snaps of the season after battling a back injury. He recorded four catches for 38 yards, including three grabs for Georgia first downs.

The Bulldogs’ run game wasn’t as efficient in weeks past. Georgia ran for 107 yards with a 3.6 yards per carry average. Senior tailback Daijun Edwards gained the most snaps and finished with 19 carries for 76 yards and two touchdowns.

Georgia’s next test is Kentucky, which dominated Florida on Saturday in a 33-14 win at home. The Wildcats (5-0) rushed for 329 yards in the win.

[lawrence-related id=92908]

We expected growing pains for Georgia as it ushered in first-year starter Beck and new offensive coordinator Mike Bobo, but the lack of rush defense is a question headed into the matchup next week versus Kentucky.

Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET and the game will air on ESPN.
