Georgia transfer QB target commits to SEC rival

Georgia football quarterback transfer target Jackson Arnold transfers to an SEC school.

When former Oklahoma Sooner quarterback Jackson Arnold entered the transfer portal, he received significant interest from top college football teams, including the Georgia Bulldogs. On3 mentioned three teams in particular to watch out for: the Georgia Bulldogs, the Auburn Tigers and the Mississippi State Bulldogs.

In the end, Arnold decided to transfer to the Auburn Tigers. Tigers coach Hugh Freeze will again try to develop a transfer portal quarterback .

Arnold may have more potential than Auburn’s most recent starting quarterback, Payton Thorne. Arnold, a former five-star quarterback, had one of the best high-school careers ever for Denton, Texas. He won the Landry Award (given to the best player in Northern Texas) and the Gatorade National Player of the Year in his senior year at John H. Guyer High School.

However, he hasn’t put it together in college. He has thrown for 1,421 yards, 12 touchdowns and three interceptions. He also took a bunch of sacks, but the Sooners dealt with numerous injuries on their offensive line. He showed flashes of his upside when he ran for 131 yards on 25 carries in Oklahoma’s 24-3 win over Alabama.

The Bulldogs remain on the hunt for a quarterback to replace Beck next year. They’ve talked to a few top names, such as Fernando Mendoza and Deshawn Purdie, but maybe sophomore Gunner Stockton could earn the job in the College Football Playoff or Beck could return.

The Georgia Bulldogs will play Arnold and the Auburn Tigers on Oct. 11 next year.

Former Georgia assistant makes big impact on CFP race

Former Georgia assistant cheering for the Georgia Bulldogs in the College Football Playoff

Former Georgia Bulldogs assistant Fran Brown has transformed the Syracuse Orange from an ACC afterthought into a legitimate ACC contender in just one season.

Brown turned a 6-7 team into a 9-3 team thanks to excellent transfers, including former Ohio State Buckeye quarterback Kyle McCord and former Bulldog wide receiver Jackson Meeks.

The Orange’s best victory came against No. 6 Miami, against which Syracuse came back from down 21-0 to win 42-38. Syracuse’s win was huge for the Clemson Tigers, who needed Miami to lose to make the ACC championship and to have a shot at making the College Football Playoff.

Clemson coach Dabo Swinney offered to honor Brown if Clemson wins the national title.

“Man, if we win the national championship, (Fran Brown) is gonna be riding in the car with me through downtown Clemson,” said Swinney.

“I’m very happy for (Dabo) and his team… but with that being said… Go Dawgs,” said Brown in a recent interview.

There’s a scenario in which Georgia and Clemson meet in the national and Bulldogs fans are surely hoping the rematch would be similar to the 34-3 Georgia blowout win on opening weekend.

Georgia 2025 recruiting class superlatives

UGA football signing class superlative for the 2025 recruiting cycle.

The Georgia Bulldogs are very active in the NCAA transfer portal, but Georgia still relies more heavily on traditional recruiting.

Georgia has already signed 25 commitment in the class of 2025. The Bulldogs have the nation’s No. 3 recruiting class, so Georgia will have an influx of freshman talent next year.

The early signing period is over, but what are our class of 2025 superlatives?

Biggest Star

This award goes to the highest-rated commit in the class, Elijah Griffin. As the nation’s No. 5 overall prospect and the No. 1 defensive lineman, Griffin is as elite as they come and  fulls a critical need in a position that is set to lose key pieces this offseason. Kirby Smart and company secured his commitment through the relentless effort to make it known that he was on top of the recruiting board for Georgia.

Most Loyal

Tight end Elyiss Williams was the longest tenured commitment in this class. He has been committed to Georgia since April 2023. Williams is built in the lab with his 6-foot-7 frame lining up at tight end and out at wide receiver.  With the likes of Miami and Florida State coming on hard late in the recruiting process he stood firm on his commitment to the Bulldogs.

Immediate Impact

Five-star wide receiver Tayln Taylor is the first five-star wide receiver to come to UGA since George Pickens in 2019. Expect Taylor to come in and be an immediate playmaker in the wide receiver room, which is set to lose key contributors. It will be hard for the coaching staff to keep Taylor off the field.

Most Underrated

Mason Short is a 6-foot-6, 310-pound offensive lineman from Evans, Georgia. Short is not being talked enough around, but he is someone who fits into the culture at Georgia. He plays guard and in his highlight tape he plays with aggression and is fundamentally sound. He could go into and compete for a starting role with Tate Ratledge likely leaving for the NFL draft.

Most Potential

Dennis Uzochukwu is someone that Kirby Smart recruited late in the process, but made sure he was coming to Athens. Uzochukwu is similar to Brodrieck Jones, who came into Georgia as a talented, raw offensive lineman prospect and ended up as a first round pick in the NFL draft.

Why David Pollack would ‘rather be Georgia than Oregon’

Former Georgia Bulldogs defensive end David Pollack likes UGA’s College Football Playoff path

Former Georgia Bulldogs defensive end and college football expert David Pollack thinks that Georgia has an easier College Football Playoff path to the national championship game than the Oregon Ducks.

Georgia is the No. 2 seed in the playoff and Oregon is the No. 1 seed, so hypothetically, Georgia should have a harder path to the national championship. However, Pollack does not think it worked out that way.

“I feel like the upper echelon talent is very heavy towards the top side of this (College Football Playoff) bracket and I definitely would rather be Georgia than Oregon,” said Pollack.  “I think Oregon is clearly the No. 1 seed. All year long the only team to go undefeated throughout the season and well when you think about it, if it were a traditional bracket, if it was traditional seeding Oregon would be in the better spot.”

Oregon’s side of the bracket features Texas, Ohio State and Tennessee. The Ducks have to play the winner of the Ohio State-Tennessee game in the quarterfinals.

“But because of the way they do the byes and putting Boise State and Arizona State there, now you’ve taken teams that are ranked according to the committee six and seven in Ohio State (and Tennessee) but are actually now eight, nine in the bracket,” continued Pollack.

Texas and Ohio State are among the national championship favorites, so Oregon has quite a challenging path to a national title despite finishing the season undefeated.

Georgia could have to get past Notre Dame and Penn State to make the national championship.

Two Georgia Bulldogs make PFF’s All-American team

A pair of Georgia football players were selected on the 2024 All-America team from PFF.

Pro Football Focus released their College All-America team this week, and two Georgia Bulldogs made the team. These two Bulldogs have been excellent all season long, and it’s great for Bulldogs fans to see elite Georgia players get rewarded for their performances. Both players also earned spots on the All-SEC teams too.

Offensive guard Dylan Fairchild

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Fairchild has been a stalwart guard at UGA for a while now. He had limited snaps in his first few years, but as a junior, he was a reliable everyday starter. He thrives the most in pass protection, with an 87.6 grade in that department, but he is all-around a great protector. He graded out at a 75.2 this year. His best game was against UMass, with a 81.2 grade.

Fairchild has one more year of eligibility. Whether he declares for the 2025 NFL draft, transfers, or stays with UGA, any quarterback would be glad to have Fairchild blocking for him.

Punter Brett Thorson

Brett Davis-Imagn Images

Thorson’s inclusion in PFF’s All-American list is bittersweet. He’s punted for Georgia since 2022, but Thorson emerged as one of the SEC’s best punters this year. With a net punt average of 44 yards and 23 punts inside the 20, Thorson earned a 94.1 grade on PFF, which is the highest among any punter. He is also one of the finalists for the Ray Guy award.

[lawrence-auto-related count=2]

Sadly, Thorson injured the knee in his non-kicking leg in the SEC championship game. He will need surgery and will be out for the rest of the season. However, he also graduates in 2026, so if he returns to Georgia, the Bulldogs will be set at punting.

Former Florida coach Dan Mullen takes head coaching job at MWC school

ESPN analyst Dan Mullen finds a new coaching job at UNLV is very far away from Kirby Smart, Georgia football

Former ESPN college football analyst and Florida Gators coach Dan Mullen has been a known critic of the Georgia Bulldogs for some time. Now that Mullen has a new coaching job with the UNLV Rebels, he will be far away from Georgia.

Mullen agreed in principle to a five-year deal with the Rebels on Thursday. The deal hasn’t been finalized, but the financial terms should come out soon, according to ESPN.

Mullen coached at Florida from 2018-2021. He coached talented, but often undisciplined teams that came close to the College Football Playoff (see: 2020), but never reached it.

Mullen was fired in 2021 after a loss to Missouri sunk the Gators to a 5-6 record. He had a 34-15 record with Florida. Before that, he coached at Mississippi State for nine years with a 69-46 record.

Mullen will replace Barry Odom, who left UNLV to coach Purdue on Dec. 8. The Rebels will lose a great deal of talent due to graduation, including their starting quarterback; linebacker Jackson Woodward, the Mountain West defensive player of the year; and wide receiver Ricky White III, who won the Mountain West special teams player of the year award after blocking four punts.

Georgia football schedule: Is Georgia playing today?

Is Georgia playing today? Here’s a look at the schedule and the College Football Playoff game(s) to come.

Will the Georgia be on the field today on Saturday Dec, 14. of the college football season?

Following a 22-19 overtime win over the Texas Longhorns in the SEC championship, the Georgia Bulldogs are on a bye week and will return to the field in the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 1. Georgia is 11-2 overall and 7-2 in SEC games. The Bulldogs won’t play again until the College Football Playoff quarterfinals.

Georgia plays the winner of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish versus Indiana Hoosiers in the New Orleans, Louisiana. The Sugar Bowl will be televised on ESPN.

Georgia needs all the extra time it can get to prepare for the Sugar Bowl with quarterback Carson Beck expected to miss the game. The Bulldogs are moving forward with Gunner Stockton as their starting quarterback.

The only regular season college football game on Dec. 14 is the Army versus Navy game, which is always one of the best games of the year. There is also a bowl game between South Alabama and Western Michigan.

Why Georgia’s bowl game isn’t in Atlanta

Atlanta is one of four CFP quarterfinals sites, but Georgia will play in the Sugar Bowl instead. Here’s why

The Georgia Bulldogs won’t be playing in the College Football Playoff quarterfinals in Atlanta. Instead, Georgia will play in the Sugar Bowl on New Year’s Day against the winner of the Indiana Hoosiers versus Notre Dame Fighting Irish game.

So why is Georgia football playing in the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans instead of in the Peach Bowl in Atlanta?

Well, it comes down to bowl ties. There’s no doubt that Georgia would prefer to play in the Peach Bowl in Atlanta, so they have a major travel and home crowd advantage over their opponent.

However, the Bulldogs don’t get to pick where they play (they should as a way to reward the top seeds). Bowls are still tied to conference championship winners, so just like in the old days the winner of the SEC championship plays in the Sugar Bowl. For example, the Big Ten’s winner, Oregon, will be playing in the Rose Bowl.

The Sugar Bowl will be played on Jan. 1 at 8:45 p.m. ET. Will Georgia win and advance to the semifinals or will the clock strike midnight on Georgia’s dramatic season?

Georgia LB, son of NFL coach, entering transfer portal

Georgia Bulldogs sophomore linebacker Troy Bowles is entering the transfer portal

Georgia Bulldogs sophomore linebacker Troy Bowles is entering the NCAA transfer portal. Bowles was a four-star recruit and the No. 6 linebacker in the class of 2023.

The 6-foot, 220-pound linebacker has primarily served a reserve role during his time with Georgia. Bowles appeared in Georgia’s first two games of the 2024 season, but has not played since. In 2023, Bowles recorded five tackles in five games including three tackles against UT Martin.

Bowles, who has excellent speed, will have three years of eligibility at his new school. Bowles played high school football for Jesuit High School in Tampa, Florida. Bowles’ father, Todd Bowles, is the coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, so Bowles comes from an excellent football background.

Six Georgia defenders intend to enter the transfer portal ahead of Georgia’s Sugar Bowl game on Jan. 1. Of course, almost all of these players could still play in UGA’s bowl game.

Georgia defensive tackle Jamaal Jarrett, cornerback Julian Humphrey, outside linebacker Samuel M’Pemba, defensive back Justyn Rhett and defensive back David Daniel-Sisavanh are in the transfer portal.

Takeaways from Georgia football’s 2025 schedule

Key takeaways from Georgia’s 2025 schedule, which has just three true road games

The Georgia Bulldogs have released their schedule for the 2025 college football season. The schedule will feature all of the same SEC opponents, except in opposite stadium of 2024, meaning if Georgia played a team at home this year, next year the Bulldogs will play them on the road.

Georgia starts their season against Marshall from the Sun Belt Conference and Austin Peay from the Ohio Valley Conference, both at home. The Bulldogs start SEC play on the road against Tennessee. After a bye week, they return to play Alabama and Kentucky in Weeks 5 and 6. They travel to Auburn in Week 7 and play Ole Miss at home in Week 8 before their second bye.

In Week 10, the Bulldogs go to Jacksonville to play Florida in another edition of the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party. Georgia’s Week 11 features a matchup vs. Mississippi State before they play two more home games against Texas and Charlotte. The game against Georgia Tech will be in Mercedes Benz Stadium in 2025 and not Bobby Dodd Stadium.

HERE ARE FOUR KEY TAKEAWAYS FROM the release of Georgia’s Schedule:

Home games are electric

Brett Davis-Imagn Images

After the SEC championship win, Kirby Smart took a shot at the SEC commissioner Sankey when he mentioned that Georgia was being sent on the road all year against difficult opponents.

Well, now that will be flipped. In 2025, the Georgia home schedule will be absolutely insane, with Georgia playing Alabama, Ole Miss, and Texas in Sanford Stadium. Georgia enters the season on a 31 game home winning streak.

Ole Miss will be losing Jaxson Dart, along with their lead back, leading receiver, and leading defensive back in interceptions, but the Rebels currently have the 17th ranked recruiting class and the fourth-ranked transfer portal class.

Texas and Georgia get more rivalry fortifying

Aaron E. Martinez / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images

Speaking of home games, Georgia’s home game against Texas is perhaps the most anticipated game of the 2025 college football season. The game will be another chapter in a budding SEC rivalry.

Georgia has beaten Texas twice already; once in the regular season and once in the SEC championship. However, the Longhorns will still be considered a juggernaut in the SEC regardless of the results against Georgia this year. If Texas wins, this rivalry could really blossom.

Georgia’s matchup at Tennessee looms large

© Angelina Alcantar/News Sentinel / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images

The biggest game Georgia has on the road in 2025 is against Tennessee. That game also starts Georgia’s SEC schedule. Georgia will hope to start the year off on a high note against the Volunteers.

The Bulldogs currently have an eight-game winning streak against Tennssee and will be looking to tie the longest winning streak of the rivalry. However, this game has important implications because of next week.

Georgia plays Alabama in the Bulldogs’ next matchup after the bye. Alabama has a much more favorable schedule coming into the Georgia matchup. The Crimson Tide has also won nine of their last 10 games against the Bulldogs.

If Georgia lost to Tennessee and Alabama, the Bulldogs could be 2-2 and unranked for the first time in several years.

Neutral site rivalry game will be an interesting twist

Brett Davis-Imagn Images

In normal circumstances, Georgia would head to Bobby Dodd Stadium to play Georgia Tech next year. However, the next chapter of “Clean, Ole Fashioned Hate” will be played in Mercedes Benz.

Obviously, Georgia Tech is in Atlanta as well, so people would expect the stadium filled with yellow. However, Georgia fans travel extremely well, so this game could see the true extent of both teams’ support in the rivalry.

Even with Georgia boasting a seven-game winning streak, Georgia Tech has lost close in the past two matchups, with the Bulldogs needing eight overtimes to defeat the Yellow Jackets in 2024.
