UFC 283: Burns vs. Magny picks and predictions

The line is a little strong in Burns’ favor considering his recent losses, but he still is a top-5 welterweight in the UFC. He’s the safest bet to win given his striking accuracy (48%) and incredible ground game. Magny could sneak a TKO, which makes his +360 odds an attractive bet, but it’s difficult to bet against Burns, who is more of a polished fighter.

The payout for Burns at -475 is too low for a straight bet, so the better play is BURNS BY SUBMISSION (+195). Eight of Burns’ 20 wins have been by submission while Magny was submitted in 5 of his 9 losses.

I don’t expect this fight to go the distance — both fighters will be looking for a finish, especially Burns who is looking to get back into the title picture. Jackson heads into this fight with a tremendous advantage on the ground, and he holds a 2.62-to-1.23 takedown average advantage and a 2.06-to-0.35 submission average advantage. If Jackson can get this fight to the ground, it might not end well for Ige.

Over/Under (O/U)

NO: FIGHT TO GO THE DISTANCE (+120) is worth a roll of the dice here, as Jackson has the ability to end it early. If he wins, it will end with a stoppage. If Ige wins, it will go the distance.

Strickland might not be as keen to go to the canvas as usual since Imavov is a tremendous wrestler with submission ability, but it’s possible he can win on points, or via KO/TKO.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 4.5 ROUNDS (+102) at plus money is a terrific value in this fight.

Strickland has gone the distance in 4 of his last 5 fights, and Imavov has gone the distance in 3 of his 5 bouts since arriving at the UFC level.

As far as the method of victory, STRICKLAND BY POINTS (+320) is worth a look at a chance to triple up.
