UFC Fight Night 233 results: Song Yadong clean sweeps Chris Gutierrez, calls out Petr Yan

It might not have come the way Song Yadong envisioned, but he scored a lopsided win over Chris Gutierrez nonetheless at UFC Fight Night 233.

It might not have come the way [autotag]Song Yadong[/autotag] envisioned, but he scored a lopsided win over [autotag]Chris Gutierrez[/autotag] nonetheless.

Song showed versatility to his overall game as he defeated Gutierrez by unanimous decision in the UFC Fight Night 233 bantamweight headliner. After 25 minutes, the judges awarded Song the victory with scores of 50-44, 50-45, 50-45 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

It was the second consecutive victory for Song, who called out former 135-pound champion Petr Yan in his post-fight interview with Paul Felder.

“I’m coming to get the belt,” Song said. “Next one, Petr, sign the contract. Tomorrow I’m going back to train. I know you want to fight in March. OK, let’s go in March.”

Immediately after Song’s win, Yan posted a yawn emoji on X, presumably as an assessment of Song’s performance. Song had a response to that.

“Your last fight, too, bro,” Song said, referencing Yan’s most recent loss to Merab Dvalishvili in March. “Looked like sh*t. Some time I will knock you out. Your boxing is good? OK, let’s go. Let’s try it.”

Song (21-7-1 MMA, 10-2-1 UFC) entered the fight with Gutierrez (20-5-2 MMA, 8-3-1 UFC) looking to display his striking, but he was forced to make adjustments as things unfolded. After a leg-kick heavy Round 1 from both Song and Gutierrez, it was Round 2 where the fight changed. Gutierrez was doing a good job of managing distance, but after an eye poke from Gutierrez halted the action, Song came back and scored a nice takedown when the fight resumed.

After holding Gutierrez down for the remainder of the round, Song found more success on the feet before closing out the round with another takedown. The biggest moment of the fight came early in Round 4 when Song dropped Gutierrez with an overhand right. He then proceeded to fight him heavy on the mat with ground and pound. Round 5 saw more of the same as Song left no doubt who was the winner.

UFC Fight Night 233 video: Khalil Rountree wobbles Anthony Smith, wins by TKO, calls for Alex Pereira title fight

Khalil Rountree is now on a career-best five-fight winning streak after defeating Anthony Smith at UFC Fight Night 233 – and now he wants a title shot.

[autotag]Khalil Rountree[/autotag] got the signature win he’s been wanting to add to his resume Saturday after defeating former light heavyweight title challenger [autotag]Anthony Smith[/autotag] in the UFC Fight Night 233 co-main event.

Rountree (13-5 MMA, 9-5 UFC) saw his career-best streak reach five when he beat Smith (37-19 MMA, 12-9 UFC) by third-round TKO at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

“The War Horse” once again made the difference with his power and striking technique as he managed to hurt Smith multiple times before dropping him for the finish 56 seconds into Round 3. Afterward, Rountree called for a title shot against reigning 205-pound kingpin Alex Pereira.

“I came in with high hopes I would have a good performance,” Rountree said in his post-fight interview with Paul Felder. “Las Vegas is the home of the UFC. And in my mind I feel like it’s time to have a champion at home. I’m in the top 10 now and the only thing that I want to do is fight Alex Pereira. I know that I have other people that I have to possibly fight, but I know that’s a fight the fans would want to see. I think that from what I’ve seen, the fans would love to see that fight.”

Smith pushed to the middle of the cage to begin Round 1. However, Rountree got a read quickly and started landing some powerful shots. Smith stayed composed and found him moments to counter, but Rountree significantly tested his chin on multiple occasions.

The momentum for Rountree continued into Round 2. He wobbled Smith with a huge punch early in the round then settled in to a persistent flow of punches and kicks. Smith continued to push forward and pressure Rountree, but failed to land anything clean enough to meaningfully alter the flow of the action.

In the third, Rountree loaded up with a slick uppercut, left hand combination that once again sent Smith wobbling back. This time he dropped, and while Rountree stood over him threatening a hammerfist, the referee stopped in and waved it off.

With the result, Rountree, who entered the fight No. 12 in the latest USA TODAY Sports/MMA Junkie light heavyweight rankings, can expect forward movement into the top 10 of the weight class. The 33-year-old hasn’t tasted defeat since January 2021, but had never got open the hump of four-straight wins previously in his career. Now that has changed.

Smith, meanwhile, fell short after stepping in on 15 days’ notice as a replacement to fight Rountree. “Lionheart” is now 1-3 in his past four fights dating back to July 2022.

UFC Fight Night 233 video: Tim Elliott chokes out Su Mudaerji on five days’ notice

Tim Elliott admitted his “title run is kind of over” despite choking out Su Mudaerji in dominant fashion at UFC Fight Night 233.

[autotag]Tim Elliott[/autotag] earned one of the more impressive wins of his career Saturday when he defeated [autotag]Su Mudaerji[/autotag] on just five days’ notice at UFC Fight Night 233.

According to Laura Sanko on commentary, Elliott (20-14-1 MMA, 9-11 UFC) had just two training sessions to prepare for the bantamweight bout at the UFC Apex. It didn’t look like it in the octagon as Elliott landed some good strikes on the feet, got Mudaerji (16-6 MMA, 3-3 UFC) to the mat then locked in an arm-triangle choke that led to the technical submission at the 4:02 mark of Round 1.

Check out the replay of the finish below (via X):

After losing a key fight to Muhammad Mokaev at UFC 294 in October, Elliott jumped on the opportunity to fight Mudaerji as a replacement.

Elliott, 36, admitted his time at the highest level of competition might be dwindling, but his fighting spirit remains strong, and he’s ready to step in the cage as often as possible.

“I’m never really satisfied in here,” Elliot said in his post-fight interview with Paul Felder. “There’s things I want to do that I’ve never got to do in my career, and I’m running out of time, and I want to show that now. The goal right now is to get back in here. I’m ready next weekend if they need me. …

“I feel like my title run is kind of over now, and all I really have is excitement. But the UFC knows they can call me anytime, and I’ll show up, make weight and fight hard. And if I continue to do that, I’ll be here forever.”
