Louis Smolka ruled out of UFC Fight Night 182; Jose Quinonez fight scratched

Just hours before they were set to step into the octagon, Louis Smolka and Jose Quinonez have been removed from UFC Fight Night 182.

Just hours before they were set to step into the octagon, [autotag]Louis Smolka[/autotag] and [autotag]Jose Quinonez[/autotag] have been removed from UFC Fight Night 182.

UFC officials announced the change 30 minutes prior to the start of tonight’s event, which streams live on ESPN+ from UFC Apex in Las Vegas and now proceeds with just nine fights.

Smolka, who weighed in at 139 pounds for the bantamweight matchup, was deemed “medically unfit” to compete according to UFC officials, who clarified the removal was not related to any COVID-19 testing results.

The Smolka (16-7 MMA, 7-7 UFC) vs. Quinonez (8-4 MMA, 5-3 UFC) fight is the third contest to be scratched from UFC Fight Night 182 over the past day.

Eryk Anders (13-5 MMA, 5-5 UFC), who also missed weight on Friday, withdrew overnight from his middleweight bout with Antonio Arroyo (9-3 MMA, 0-1 UFC), while Saparbek Safarov (9-3 MMA, 1-3 UFC) withdrew from his middleweight fight against Julian Marquez (7-2 MMA, 1-1 UFC) prior to Friday’s official ceremony.

Health issues scratch Eryk Anders vs. Antonio Arroyo from tonight’s UFC Fight Night 182 lineup

Tonight’s UFC Fight Night 182 lineup is down to 10 fights.

Tonight’s UFC Fight Night 182 lineup is down to 10 fights.

A middleweight matchup between [autotag]Eryk Anders[/autotag] (13-5 MMA, 5-5 UFC) and [autotag]Antonio Arroyo[/autotag] (9-3 MMA, 0-1 UFC) has been removed from the event, which takes place a UFC Apex in Las Vegas and airs on ESPN following prelims on ESPN+, both fighters announced.

The culprit behind the cancellation appears to be Anders, who cited “health issues,” which have seemingly stemmed from his weight cut. He was 1.5 pounds over the divisional limit at Friday’s weigh-in, and he was to be fined 20 percent of his purse.

Anders’ recovery from his weight cut apparently didn’t go well, because he was forced to pull out of the card (via Twitter):

Hey guys, unfortunately due to issues concerning my health I was forced to withdraw from tonight’s fight against Arroyo. I am recovering and look forward to getting back to action ASAP. Thank you everyone for your love and support.

With the removal, the latest UFC Fight Night 182 lineup now includes:

MAIN CARD (ESPN+, 7 p.m. ET)

  • Paul Felder vs. Rafael dos Anjos
  • Abdul Razak Alhassan vs. Khaos Williams
  • Brendan Allen vs. Sean Strickland

UFC Fight Night 182 takes place Saturday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. The card streams on ESPN+.

(Click here to open a PDF of the staff picks grid in a separate window.)

In the main event, former lightweight champion [autotag]Rafael dos Anjos[/autotag] (29-13 MMA, 18-11 UFC) returns to the division after a stint at welterweight to take on [autotag]Paul Felder[/autotag] (17-5 MMA, 9-5 UFC), who took the bout on just five days’ notice. Dos Anjos is a -193 favorite at BetMGM; the comeback on Felder is +160. But it’s Felder who has a big 10-4 lead in the picks from our 14 editors, writers, videographers and radio hosts.

In the co-feature, [autotag]Abdul Razak Alhassan[/autotag] (10-2 MMA, 4-2 UFC) missed weight for his welterweight bout against [autotag]Khaos Williams[/autotag] (10-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC). He’s a -250 favorite, though, and he’s a near-unanimous pick from our staff members at 13-1.

[autotag]Eryk Anders[/autotag] (13-5 MMA, 5-5 UFC) missed weight, as well, for his middleweight bout against [autotag]Antonio Arroyo[/autotag] (9-3 MMA, 0-1 UFC). Anders is a mild favorite at -125, and he has a small 8-6 lead in the picks from our staff members.

And to open the main card, [autotag]Brendan Allen[/autotag] (15-3 MMA, 3-0 UFC) takes on [autotag]Sean Strickland[/autotag] (21-3 MMA, 8-3 UFC) in a 195-pound catchweight bout. Allen is a slight favorite at -125, but it’s Strickland with an 8-6 picks lead.

In the MMA Junkie reader consensus picks, Felder (63 percent), Alhassan (58 percent), Anders (73 percent) and Allen (62 percent) are the choices.

Check out all the picks above.
