UFC 272 results: Bryce Mitchell grounds and pounds his way to dominant win over Edson Barboza

Bryce Mitchell picked up the biggest win of his career in convincing fashion at UFC 272.

Heading into UFC 272, [autotag]Bryce Mitchell[/autotag] scoffed at the traditional grappler vs. striker label before meeting [autotag]Edson Barboza[/autotag]. He came to fight.

Despite those sentiments, Mitchell also stuck with what works.

Mitchell used his standout ground game to his advantage against Barboza, earning a dominant unanimous decision by scores of 30-25, 30-26 and 30-27 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. With the win, Mitchell remains perfect in his overall MMA career.

“I’m a warrior of God,” Mitchell told Joe Rogan during his octagon interview. “I fear no man. I live and breathe this sport.”

Each round played out similarly, with Mitchell securing takedowns and pummeling Barboza with ground-and-pound.

[lawrence-related id=2528198,2528196,2528486]

In Round 1, Barboza (22-11 MMA, 16-11 UFC) found success early with leg kicks, but Mitchell (15-0 MMA, 6-0 UFC) managed to drop Barboza with a straight left hand and quickly followed up to secure a takedown as Barboza tried to recover back to his feet. Mitchell controlled top position for the next three minutes, throwing a combination of short punches and elbows to soften up Barboza. The round ended with Barboza finally getting to his feet and landing a couple of body shots and straight right hand, but it was too little too late.

Mitchell wasted no time in Round 2, securing a takedown 20 seconds into the frame. Again, there were no major attempts by Mitchell to advance position but neither did Barboza try to escape. That allowed Mitchell to continue raining ground-and-pound on Barboza, who was leaking blood from above his left eye.

Barboza needed to turn Round 3 into a standup battle but couldn’t after Mitchell shot in for a double leg and scored the takedown 60 seconds in. The rest of the round was more of the same from Mitchell, who picked up the biggest win of his career.

UFC 272 results: Kevin Holland stops Alex Oliveira in welterweight return

Kevin Holland had a successful welterweight return with a TKO win over Alex Oliveira at UFC 272.

LAS VEGAS – [autotag]Kevin Holland[/autotag]’s extra cut down to 170 pounds wasn’t in vain.

The fan favorite fighter was successful in his UFC welterweight debut, picking up a stoppage in over veteran [autotag]Alex Oliveira[/autotag] at Saturday’s UFC 272. Holland (22-7 MMA, 9-4 UFC) defeated Oliveira (22-12-1 MMA, 11-10 UFC) via TKO at the 0:38 mark of Round 2.

The welterweight bout was part of the UFC 272 main card at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

As advertised, it was a wild affair from start to finish.

Right off the bat, Holland looked to pressure Oliveira, while the Brazilian focused more on countering him. After an even exchange on the feet and a quick takedown from Oliveira’s part, Holland landed a big combination that wobbled the Brazilian three minutes into the fight.

Holland kept composed and didn’t rush in to look for the finish. Oliveira managed to recover and began working Holland’s legs once again with hard calf kicks. With a few seconds remaining in the round, Oliveira got Holland’s back and looked to threaten with a choke, but ran out of time.

Likely a round down, Holland landed a hard combination and dropped Oliveira to start off the second round. Holland followed Oliveira to the ground and began to pour on shots from top position. Oliveira did everything he could to defend himself, but was overwhelmed by Holland’s volume. After a few seconds of ground-and-pound, the referee had no option but to stop the fight.

[lawrence-related id=2528646,2528486]

Holland got back in the win column after two losses and a no contest in his past three fights. Oliveira finds himself on his worst career skid. “Cowboy” has four consecutive defeats and is 2-7 in his past nine fights. His most recent victory was a decision win over Peter Sobotta in July 2020.

UFC 272 results: Serghei Spivac hands Greg Hardy third consecutive loss with quick TKO

UFC commentator Joe Rogan called Serghei Spivac’s UFC 272 victory over former NFL standout Greg Hardy an “easy” one.

[autotag]Serghei Spivac[/autotag] had little trouble dispatching [autotag]Greg Hardy[/autotag] at UFC 272, achieving what commentator Joe Rogan called an “easy” victory in the main-card opener.

Spivac (14-3 MMA, 5-3 UFC) used his superior ground arsenal to take down former NFL standout Hardy (7-5 MMA, 4-5 UFC) and pound his way to the TKO at the 2:16 mark of Round 1. The heavyweight bout took place Saturday at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Hardy came out firing some hard leg kicks. They exchanged strikes, then they tied up in a clinch exchange that resulted in Spivac hip-tossing Hardy to the canvas. Hardy would get up, but Spivac kept control of the waist and picked Hardy up multiple times. One of his tosses went right into mount, and Spivac unloaded with a flurry of punches that forced the stoppage.

“I feel amazing. I know Greg Hardy is a very big opponent, and he has knockout power, but I’m ready for this,” Spivac said in his post-fight interview with Rogan. “I prepared six months for this fight.”

[lawrence-related id=2528486,2528294]

Spivac is now back on the winning track after losing his previous fight.

Hardy, meanwhile, has dropped three consecutive fights to close out what was previously reported to be the final fight on his UFC contract. It’s unclear what his future holds after a sub-.500 record in the promotion since his debut in January 2019.

Ukraine’s Maryna Moroz victorious at UFC 272, delivers emotional speech on Russian invasion

Maryna Moroz picked up a win at UFC 272 under incredibly difficult circumstances.

Ukrainian UFC women’s flyweight [autotag]Maryna Moroz[/autotag] didn’t have an easy build-up to her octagon return, but she got the job done.

Moroz picked up a dominant submission win over Mariya Agapova on Saturday at UFC 272 in Las Vegas. Moroz (11-3 MMA, 6-3 UFC) tapped Agapova (10-3 MMA, 2-2 UFC) with an arm-triangle choke at the 3:27 mark of Round 2 in what was her first fight since March 2020.

Moroz, who’s from Vilnohirsk, Ukraine, had a very emotional preparation ahead of UFC 272 given the ongoing war being waged by Russia in her country. Moroz, 30, expressed serious concern for her family back home and that her father was building “home grenades” in aiding Ukrainian troops.

In her post-fight interview with Joe Rogan, Moroz delivered an emotional speech.

“If you know my country has war right now, and my family is in Ukraine,” Moroz said. “I had a hard week. I worried. I cried because my family right now is in a bad situation. Thank you for everyone who messaged me and supported me because this week was hard for me. I wanted to cry because of this war in my country. Thank you, everyone.”

With this result, Moroz is now on a three-fight wining streak and undefeated since moving up to 125 pounds. Her last defeat came at strawweight in a decision loss to former Invicta FC champion Angela Hill back in 2018.

You can watch Moroz submission win at UFC 272 in the video below.

Joe Rogan butchered Umar Nurmagomedov’s name to close their UFC 272 interview

Well, Joe Rogan tried.

Maybe Joe Rogan forgot to do his own research on how to pronounce [autotag]Umar Nurmagomedov[/autotag]’s last name.

After Nurmagomedov made easy work of Brian Kelleher on Saturday at UFC 272, he got his post-fight interview time with Joe Rogan, something you know every winner looks forward to.

Everything was good up until the very end when Rogan butchered the pronunciation of “Nurmagomedov.” Here it is, via Twitter:

[lawrence-related id=2528276]

Surprising since Rogan has called a bunch of Usman’s cousin, Khabib Nurmagomedov’s fights in the past. Then again, Rogan isn’t working events as often as he used to now that he’s a $200 million man with his “Joe Rogan Experience” podcast on Spotify, so he may be understandably rusty.

Rogan missed last month’s UFC 271 on the heels of controversy surrounding a video that showed him saying the N-word two dozen times in the past.

UFC 272 video: Umar Nurmagomedov chokes out Brian Kelleher, moves to 14-0

Umar Nurmagomedov continued to build his hype by making light work of Brian Kelleher at UFC 272.

[autotag]Umar Nurmagomedov[/autotag] has been touted by many as the heir apparent to Khabib in the octagon. He showed another reason why he’s getting that hype with a dominant win over Brian Kelleher at UFC 272.

Nurmagomedov (14-0 MMA, 2-0 UFC) made light work of Kelleher (24-13 MMA, 8-6 UFC) in their featherweight bout on Saturday at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, securing a rear-naked choke for the finish at the 3:15 mark of Round 1.

After putting the pressure on from the outset, Nurmagomedov eventually found his way to the back of Kelleher, got his forearm under the neck and squeezed until he got the top.

Check out the highlight of the finish below (via Twitter):

Nurmagomedov, 26, is the cousin of Khabib. He has now earned both of his UFC wins by submission.

“I’m very happy that I got a win over such a hard opponent,” Nurmagomedov said in his post-fight interview with Joe Rogan. “I’m ready to fight just a week from now.”
