UCLA’s first-ever Big Ten football schedule

We gave you #USC’s 2024 schedule. What about #UCLA’s historic first #B1G slate? It should be very rough for the Bruins.

We posted USC’s 2024 football schedule a few days ago. The Trojans get their toughest games at home against Michigan and Wisconsin. Their one really tough road game is at Penn State, but their other road games should be very manageable. It’s not a bad lineup for the Men of Troy.

One noticeable aspect of USC’s 2024 Big Ten slate is that the Trojans do not play both Michigan and Ohio State. They only have to face Michigan, and they will do so at home. They won’t play Ohio State until 2025.

What about the other Los Angeles school which will join the Big Ten next year? It’s time to give you UCLA’s first-ever Big Ten football schedule.

When you look at the Bruins’ collection of 2024 games, you’ll notice that unlike USC, UCLA has to play both Michigan and Ohio State in the same season.

Welcome to the Midwest, Bruins. Have fun!

Here’s the schedule below:

UCLA Football Schedule What To Know: Who do the Bruins miss from the Pac-12 slate?

Last year USC missed Oregon and Washington. Now it’s UCLA’s turn.

Considering the missed teams in conference play still fall along former divisional lines, not having to deal with the Ducks or Huskies from the former Pac-12 North is about as big a break as it possibly gets.

However …

UCLA Football Schedule What Really Matters

It’s not all happy and fun in Pac-12 play.

Going down the road to USC isn’t exactly a road trip, but having to open up the conference season at Utah is a bear. In all there are five conference road trips. Arizona – a massive loss for UCLA last year – is even better this season and it’s in Tucson.

That’s tough, going to Oregon State is even nastier, and while Stanford shouldn’t be a problem, it’s a part of a rough run of three road games in four weeks.

UCLA Football Schedule What To Know: What does it all really mean?

It’s not bad.

UCLA didn’t exactly extend itself last year in non-conference play – Bowling Green, Alabama State, South Alabama – and there aren’t any Power Five programs among this year’s crop. Coastal Carolina is interesting and going to San Diego State is dangerous, but if UCLA is any sort of a player this year, those two have to be wins.

Again, no Oregon and no Washington means the world – that’s a beauty of a parting gift before going off to the Big Ten. It’s a slate built to push for ten wins if everything reloads in a hurry, but those three road games against USC, Utah, and Oregon State will mean everything.

UCLA Football Schedule What To Know: Who do the Bruins miss from the Pac-12 North Division?

UCLA has to play Oregon, and it’s a road game.

At least it has a week off to rest up and get ready, but the away game to Eugene is one of the toughest draws in the South. Missing Oregon State and Washington State isn’t too bad, but Cal should be dangerous, Washington should be better, and Stanford will soon be a lot stronger.

In the South, the Bruins get Utah and USC at home. That sort of makes up for having to go to Oregon.

UCLA Football Schedule What To Know: We’re not exactly extending ourselves, are we, Bruins?

The general rule of thumb is that any Power Five team should have one game against another Power Five team, and a restaurant quality date with some solid Group of Five squad – like a good team from the Mountain West.

Nope.

To be fair, UCLA did play LSU early last year. But seriously …

Bowling Green, Alabama State, South Alabama.

That’s it?! Don’t you like your fans?

UCLA Football Schedule What To Know: What does it all really mean?

There is absolutely no excuse whatsoever for UCLA to have anything but a good year with this schedule.

There are three light scrimmages to ease into the Pac-12 season that begins with two teams – Colorado and Washington – that didn’t go bowling last season.

Try this out. UCLA is playing nine games against teams that didn’t go bowling last season.

Nine.

The only three that did were Utah, Oregon, and Arizona State, and all three lost.

Yeah, USC will be better, and yeah, going to Oregon and Arizona State won’t be layups, but with this slate and one road game before October 22nd, there’s no reason for any concern.
