Memphis at UCF: Three things to know

  1. The Knights are looking to avoid a third straight setback. In Dec. 26 and Jan. 2 losses to Houston and South Florida, respectively, Central Florida was a combined minus-11 in the turnover margin. One of those games (vs. Houston) was at home and the Knights are looking to avoid back-to-back losses in Orlando, something that occurred three times in 2019-20.
  2. Central Florida F Isaiah Adams is listed as questionable due to an illness. Adams is off to a fine start in his collegiate career, as the freshman forward is shooting 51.2% from the field and averages 11.8 points and 2.0 steals per game through five contests.
  3. The Tigers won last season’s lone head-to-head matchup 59-57 in a Jan. 29 game in Orlando. Since 2017, the Knights are 5-4 straight up and 6-3 ATS against Memphis.

Memphis at UCF: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

UCF 67, Memphis 66

Money line (ML)

UCF can leverage an advantage at the free-throw line and from beyond the 3-point arc in this one. The Knights are looking for a bounce-back performance after a disappointing 68-61 loss to South Florida Saturday. They exhibited solid bounce-back form in an earlier game, downing Florida State by 12 on the road following a 22-point loss to Michigan.

Consider an ML play on the Knights at +100 or better.

Against the spread (ATS)

Memphis is 1-4 ATS in road/neutral games. The Tigers are playing their second straight game with a week layoff. The first time around, Memphis failed to cover a 10-point spread in a 58-57 home win over USF.

The Tigers (fast) and Knights (slow) play at different tempos, and Memphis has scuffled against slow-pace teams this season, going 1-3 ATS (the Under has hit in three of those four games).

The Knights are 4-1 ATS in their last five home games. TAKE UCF +1.5 (-120) in Tuesday’s tilt against the Tigers.

Over/Under (O/U)

The Under is 8-1 in the Tigers’ last nine games as a road favorite, 10-2 in UM’s last 12 games overall, 5-1-1 in UCF’s last seven games as a home underdog, 11-4 in the Knights’ last 15 home games and 6-3 in the last nine series meetings.

The lean for Tuesday is on the UNDER 137.5 (-105).

The UCF Knights (6-3, 5-3 AAC) and the BYU Cougars (10-1, Independent) meet Tuesday for a 7 p.m. ET kickoff at FAU Stadium in the RoofClaim.com Boca Raton Bowl. Below, we analyze the UCF-BYU college football betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

UCF vs. BYU: Betting odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 6:45 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: UCF +180 (bet $100 to win $180) | BYU -225 (bet $225 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: UCF +6.5 (-110) | BYU -6.5 (-110)
  • Over/Under: 75.5 (O: -115 | U: -105)

UCF vs. BYU: Three things to know

  1. The Knights head south on the Ronald Reagan Florida Turnpike from Orlando to the Glades Road exit, playing at the on-campus stadium of Florida Atlantic University. They’ve been here before. UCF beat host FAU by a 48-14 count on Sept. 7, 2019, as 13.5-point favorites.
  2. BYU has never played in the Boca Raton Bowl, but they did finish their season in South Florida in the Miami Beach Bowl back in 2014, losing a 55-48 double-overtime thriller against Memphis. The Cougars have won just two of their past six bowl games, last tasting victory in the postseason at the 2018 Famous Idaho Potato Bowl against Western Michigan, 49-18.
  3. BYU’s powerful offense will be on display. The Cougars registered 512.8 total yards per game to rank eighth in the nation, they were 11th with 322.8 passing yards per contest and sixth with 43.0 PPG. Defensively they were just as solid, allowing just 309.0 total yards per game to rank ninth, they were 17th against the run with 113.3 yards allowed and third with 14.6 PPG allowed per game.

UCF vs. BYU: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

BYU 45, UCF 36

Money line (ML)

BYU (-225) will cost you more than two times your potential return. The Cougars were a very good team this season, with just a 22-17 loss at Coastal Carolina on Dec. 5 as their only blemish.

Still, they have a cross-country trip that plays in Florida and is acclimated to the warmer weather. That is a factor. The Cougars still win this game, but there is just too much risk for my liking. AVOID.

Against the spread (ATS)

BYU -6.5 (-110) is the better play against UCF +6.5 (-110), as there is just so much less risk playing against the spread. The Cougs offense was unstoppable this season. Just ask Boise State, as BYU trampled them 51-17 on the “Smurf Turf” on Nov. 6.

The Cougars also have wins over three other bowl teams and the loss against CCU. They ended up going 6-4-1 ATS overall, including 3-1 ATS in four games away from home. They’ll cover here, too.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 75.5 (-115) is a rather tall order, but this game features two of the most powerful offenses in the nation. UCF averaging 44.3 PPG, ranking fifth in the country, while allowing 31.4 PPG.

And they’re second in the country in total yards (585.6) and passing yards (373.0) per contest. BYU averages 43.0 PPG, and they also can sling it. This has the potential to be a high-scoring affair in Boca.

UCF at South Florida odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Friday’s UCF Knights at South Florida Bulls sports betting odds and lines, with college football betting picks, tips and predictions.

In Friday action, the UCF Knights (5-3, 4-3 AAC) and South Florida Bulls (1-7, 0-6) renew acquaintances in the War for I-4 at Raymond James Stadium for a 3:30 p.m. kickoff time. Below, we analyze the UCF-South Florida college football betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

UCF at South Florida: Betting odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 7:08 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: UCF -1667 (bet $1,667 to win $100) | South Florida +890 (bet $100 to win $890)
  • Against the spread/ATS: UCF -25 (-110) | South Florida +25 (-110)
  • Over/Under: 66.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

UCF at South Florida: Three things to know

  1. South Florida leads this rather new rivalry game by a 6-5 count on the gridiron, although UCF has rattled off three consecutive victories in the series. Last season, UCF held serve at home with a 34-7 win, and it has won each of the past two installments in this rivalry by 27.5 points per game.
  2. UCF is licking its wounds after a near-miss upset of unbeaten Cincinnati last week at the Bounce House. The Knights were able to hit against the 4-point number with a backdoor cover, falling 36-33. They’re 3-1 SU/2-2 ATS in four road outings this season, hitting the Over in three of those games.
  3. It has been a trying season for the Bulls, who haven’t beaten an FBS team all season. They won their opener Sept. 12 against FCS The Citadel 27-6, and have been in freefall since. They lost at Houston by 35 last week, and have dropped five of the past seven by at least 20 points.

UCF at South Florida: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

UCF 48, South Florida 24

Money line (ML)

UCF (-1667) will win its fourth straight in this series, but you cannot risk nearly 17 times your potential return. It’s a bad long-term strategy, because eventually you’re going to get stung betting heavy favorites. AVOID, and look to the spread.

Against the spread (ATS)

SOUTH FLORIDA +25 (-110) is worth a small-unit play. That’s a lot of points in a rivalry-type game, even if USF’s results to date have been uneven overall. While the Bulls are 1-7 SU, they have not yet failed to cover in consecutive games this season, and they’re coming off a non-cover in Houston last time out on Nov. 14.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 66.5 (-110) at even-money is a nice early holiday gift. The Over is 4-0-1 in the past five games for USF, and the Over is 4-1 in the previous five for UCF as a road favorite, too.
