LSU vs. UAB: Stream, injury report, broadcast info for Senior Night in Week 12

Here’s what you need to know to follow the Senior Night action.

For the last time in 2022, the Tigers are set to take the field at Death Valley on Saturday night. LSU hosts the UAB Blazers on Senior Night having already clinched a spot in the SEC title game in Atlanta.

However, the Tigers still have a lot to play for in this one as they remain in the College Football Playoff discussion. However, with two losses, another slip-up would surely put those hopes to bed.

The Tigers draw a 5-5 UAB team in the midst of a down year under interim coach Bryant Vincent, who took over after former coach Bill Clark retired in June. The Blazers snapped a three-game losing streak last weekend with a win over North Texas.

Here’s everything you need to know to follow this game, which kicks off at Tiger Stadium at 8 p.m. CT and will be televised on ESPN2.

UAB coach Bryant Vincent on Harold Perkins: ‘(He’s) the best true freshman I’ve seen’

Vincent raved about Perkins’ contributions in his first season.

After watching a lot of LSU film over the past week, UAB coach Bryant Vincent has come to the same conclusion as many LSU fans (and national observers): [autotag]Harold Perkins[/autotag] is one of the best linebackers in the country, and he is probably the best true freshman in the country regardless of position.

Last week, Perkins had his “Michael Jordan flu game” moment against Arkansas as he had four sacks and two forced fumbles against the Razorbacks. When Vincent was asked about Perkins and his plans on how to stop him, here’s what he had to say.

“After 12 or 14 hours of film yesterday and last night, he’s a guy that really stood out,” said Vincent. “You sit there, you watch him, and you watch all the things that he does. Whether he’s rushing the passer, whether he’s spying the quarterback, whether he’s playing coverage? This is without a doubt the best true freshman I’ve seen in my career. Without a doubt.”

“He’s explosive, powerful. He can play with speed and power. And he plays with a lot of savviness,” Vincent said. “This young man is the best true freshman I’ve seen in my career.”

LSU will welcome UAB into Tiger Stadium on Saturday night at 8 p.m. CT for Senior Night.

This LSU senior class has seen it all

When Harris got his offer in April of 2015, Les Miles was head coach, the top-grossing movie was the second installment in the Avengers franchise and ‘See You Again’ was Billboard’s top song.

Safety T[autotag]odd Harris[/autotag] committed to LSU on February 1, 2017.

It was national signing day — Ed Oregon’s first as LSU head coach. Harris was part of a defensive back class that included [autotag]Grant Delpit[/autotag], [autotag]Jacoby Stevens[/autotag] and [autotag]Kary Vincent[/autotag].

On the other side of the ball, it was the class that gave LSU [autotag]Justin Jefferson[/autotag] and [autotag]Clyde Edwards-Helaire[/autotag]. If that feels like a long time ago, it’s because it was. Delpit, Jefferson, and Edwards-Helaire are now in their third year in the NFL.

Harris is the lone player from the 2017 recruiting class to remain with LSU.

When Harris got his offer in April 2015, [autotag]Les Miles[/autotag] was head coach. The top-grossing movie that weekend was the second installment in the Avengers franchise, and Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth’s ‘See You Again’ was Billboard’s top song.

Barack Obama was still the president, and the most recent iPhone was the iPhone 6.

You get the point: Harris’ LSU journey began a long time ago.

Since he received that offer, he’s seen Miles fired and replaced by [autotag]Ed Orgeron[/autotag]. He intercepted Tua Tagovailoa in what was just Tua’s first year as the starter.

He missed significant time with an ACL injury but was a member of LSU’s title team and watched 2020 get upended by a global pandemic. He remained with LSU through yet another coaching change, with Orgeron heading out and Brian Kelly coming in.

He hasn’t been a part of the secondary rotation this year, but he’s stuck around. He’s going to leave LSU with a championship ring and a degree. Harris has had what you could call a full career, seeing it all. Some good, some really good. Some bad, and some really bad.

Senior Night ceremonies will occur on Saturday night as LSU hosts UAB in its final home game. Senior Night is meant to honor the Todd Harrises of the world.

Harris will be joined by [autotag]Micah Baskerville[/autotag], another guy who’s seen it all but followed a more linear career path.

In Kelly’s first few months on the job, Baskerville’s role was unclear. Reports from spring practice and training camp highlighted the emergence of [autotag]Greg Penn III[/autotag] and the eye-popping ability of [autotag]Harold Perkins[/autotag].

Baskerville was one of the best linebackers in the SEC in 2021. It was difficult to imagine him not being a key part of the defense in 2022, but for a moment in time, it looked like that would be the case.

Sometime in-between spring and the first few games of the fall, things turned around for Baskerville. He’s been the best coverage linebacker in the SEC while adding nine pressures and 23 stops.

Kelly took the time to highlight Baskerville at his press conference this week. Kelly said when his staff first arrived, the reports regarding Baskerville weren’t great.

“Everybody was like, ‘well, he doesn’t go to class, he doesn’t do this, he doesn’t do that,'” Kelly said. “And he’s been amazing, he’s gotten his degree, he’s been a great leader, he’s been inspirational in everything he’s done.”

Harris and Baskerville aren’t the only seniors who will be honored on Saturday night. Here are some other notable names and stories to reflect on during the festivities.

Note: This is not a comprehensive list, and some players going through the ceremony still have remaining eligibility. Likewise, Kelly said players may choose to leave who are not participating.

LSU Football Roundtable: Staff predictions for Week 12 vs. UAB

Can the Tigers avoid the upset at home against the Blazers?

The Tigers have a slight break in the SEC West gauntlet this weekend as it hosts UAB for what will represent Senior Night and the final home game of the 2022 season.

Coach Brian Kelly’s team sits at 8-2 on the year and has already clinched the SEC West title after a win at Arkansas last week. Now, this team has the College Football Playoff on its mind as it will look to win out and become the first two-loss team to make the final four.

For that to happen, LSU will need to beat Texas A&M on the road in the finale and then No. 1 Georgia in the SEC Championship. But first, the Tigers have to get past a 5-5 Blazers team led by an interim coach in Bryant Vincent.

Here’s how our staff sees this one playing out.

LSU’s spread vs. UAB not moving in final betting odds update on Friday

The Tigers remain just a 14.5-point favorite on Saturday against the Conference USA foe.

LSU enters Saturday’s contest against UAB as a heavy favorite as it has already clinched the SEC West. The Tigers will look to continue winning down the stretch and remain in the College Football Playoff conversation.

However, they aren’t quite as big a favorite as you might think against a Conference USA foe in the Blazers. LSU opened as just a 14.5-point favorite in this game, and since Monday, that line has not shifted at all.

As of 10 a.m. CT on Friday, that remains the spread on this one, though the over/under decreased by two points to 50.5. Here’s how the odds stack up as of Friday morning, per BetMGM.

Team Spread Total – O/U Money Line
UAB +14.5
-105
O 50.5
-110
+450
LSU -14.5
-115
U 50.5
-110
-650

This has been a bit of a rough year for the Blazers and interim head coach Bryant Vincent. This team is 5-5, a down year by its standards, and it snapped a three-game losing streak last week with a win over North Texas.

LSU will hope to avoid a massive upset in Death Valley on Saturday night in the game, which kicks off at 8 p.m. CT.

Brian Kelly praises current group of LSU seniors ahead of final home game

Kelly spoke on the importance of his group of seniors in Year 1.

This senior class has seen a lot of change during their careers at LSU.

Look at a guy like [autotag]Micah Baskerville[/autotag], a fifth-year senior who has played many games for the Tigers. He was a part of the 2019 national championship team. He’s seen LSU at the top of the mountain with [autotag]Joe Burrow[/autotag], [autotag]Justin Jefferson[/autotag] and coach [autotag]Ed Orgeron[/autotag].

He stayed through the coaching change when it was unknown who the Tigers would choose to be the next head man. Now, he is thriving on an LSU team that has won the SEC West and is headed to Atlanta to play the No. 1 Georgia Bulldogs for the SEC Championship.

Kelly had high praise for the buy-in and effort from seniors on this roster like Baskerville.

“And watching them become SEC West champions is so gratifying because they made that choice,” Kelly said. “They could been average, they could’ve been poor. They could’ve just been good. They’ve chosen to be champions by the way they’ve gone to work every day both in the classroom and on the football field. And that, to me, is this senior day — the choices these guys have made have been outstanding.”

LSU will honor Baskerville and 16 other seniors on Saturday as part of the team’s Senior Night festivities before the Tigers take on UAB at 8 p.m. CT in the final game at Tiger Stadium this season.

Five things to know about UAB heading into Week 12 contest

Here’s what you should know about the UAB Blazers prior to kickoff against LSU.

LSU is set to host UAB on Saturday night. It’ll be the first time the programs have met since 2013.

It’s LSU’s final contest in Tiger Stadium this year, which means it’s Senior Night. It’ll also put a cap on LSU’s 2022 nonconference schedule.

The Tigers return home after narrowly escaping Arkansas. At 8-2 with the west already in hand and playoff hopes alive, LSU is looking to inch closer to double-digit wins and take care of business until it gets its chance in Atlanta.

UAB is a little bit better than your average .500 Group of Five team. They’re led by one of the best running backs in college football and a strong secondary. Here are five things to know about the UAB Blazers.

Brian Kelly offers injury updates on John Emery Jr. and Brian Thomas Jr.

Kelly had encouraging news regarding both offensive playmakers.

When LSU took the field in Fayetteville against Arkansas, it was without [autotag]Brian Thomas Jr.[/autotag]

Brian Kelly offered an update on the sophomore receiver at his weekly Monday press conference. Thomas entered concussion protocol last week, but Kelly was hopeful that things are trending in the right direction.

Thomas has not been LSU’s go-to target, but among SEC receivers with at least 30 targets, he’s second in passer rating when targeted. He’s a valuable piece to an offense that has struggled to stretch the field.

Kelly added that running back [autotag]John Emery Jr.[/autotag], who left the Arkansas game, had just a bruise and should be good to go. Before the bruise, Emery had three carries for 40 yards.

Like Thomas at receiver, Emery has been part of a revolving door at running back after missing the first two games of the year.

He’s shown up in some big moments for LSU this year and thanks to his contributions in the receiving game, his 5.9 yards per touch lead the LSU running back room.

If LSU is taking care of business against UAB, LSU might try and limit the action for Thomas and Emery, but both being healthy is good news for an LSU offense hoping to lead the Tigers on a playoff run.

LSU will have to contend with elite UAB running back DeWayne McBride on Saturday

The Tigers will face the nation’s leader in rushing yards per game on Saturday night in Death Valley.

Saturday’s final home game of the season against UAB presents a much-needed tuneup as the Tigers have just gotten through a brutal stretch of SEC play. LSU is a heavy favorite against the 5-5 Blazers, but interim coach Bryant Vincent’s team will bring one standout player in particular to the table.

UAB boasts one of the nation’s best running backs in DeWayne McBride, who leads the nation in rushing yards per game (156.3). He ranks second nationally in total yards (1,407) and touchdowns (17), with the latter mark being a program record.

To make things even more impressive, he didn’t play in the season opener.

“They have one of the best running backs in the country in DeWayne McBride,” coach [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] said on Monday. “He has over 1,400 yards rushing. Very accomplished on offense.”

However, McBride has not been nearly as productive away from Birmingham, and he only has three touchdowns on the road this season. LSU will hope that trend continues this weekend on Senior Night.

After the game vs. UAB, LSU hits the road for the final game of the regular season against Texas A&M before it travels to Atlanta to take on Georgia in the SEC championship.

LSU vs. UAB: Prediction, point spread, odds, best bet for Senior Night

The Tigers aren’t as big of a favorite against the Conference USA foe as you may think.

The Tigers have already wrapped up the SEC West after Saturday’s 13-10 win over Arkansas — and an Alabama win over Ole Miss. But if LSU wants to keep its College Football Playoff hopes alive, it needs to keep winning.

That starts with UAB, which comes to town for an 8 p.m. CT Senior Night contest on Saturday in Week 12. This game represents a bit of a tuneup before the Tigers hit the road to take on Jimbo Fisher and Texas A&M in the regular season finale.

The Blazers enter this one in the midst of what has been a bit of a down year. They’re led by an interim coach in Bryant Vincent, who took over after coach Bill Clark announced his retirement before the season. UAB snapped a three-game losing streak last weekend with a win over North Texas in Birmingham.

We’ll give you the latest point spread, money line odds and over/under number, as well as the information you’ll need to make the smartest bet at BetMGM.
