Former Auburn defensive lineman signed by Giants as a undrafted free agent

Former Tigers defensive tackle Tyrone Truesdell signs with the Giants as a UDFA.

Although he didn’t hear his name called in the first seven rounds of the 2022 NFL draft, former Auburn defensive lineman [autotag]Tyrone Truesdell[/autotag] was signed as an undrafted free agent by the New York Giants on Sunday.

As a high school recruit, Truesdell was highly sought out. Schools like Clemson, Florida, and Ole Miss were all in pursuit of the Georgia native. Ultimately, he chose to play for Gus Malzahn and the Auburn Tigers.

Over the course of four years on the Plains, Truesdell recorded a total of 67 tackles and three sacks. He started in two of the four seasons. After the conclusion of the 2020 season, he announced that he was entering the NCAA transfer portal. Not long after entering the portal, he elected to go to Florida as a graduate transfer. In one lone season in Gainesville, he recorded 12 total tackles. As a Gator, he played in all thirteen of their games this past season.

Now, he will join the Giants after signing with the team as an undrafted free agent. Truesdell is one of eight former Tigers to have been either drafted or signed as an undrafted free agent. The Giants are getting a physically imposing defensive tackle that can certainly provide depth at the position. After the Giants had a dreadful 4-12 record last season, they need as much help as they can get. The team only has two returning defensive tackles with Leonard Williams and Dexter Lawrence under contract for 2022. Truesdell could be behind either of them next season. It will be interesting to see how he does at the pro level.

Florida football’s 2022 NFL draft and free agent tracker

Didn’t watch the draft or catch all of the undrafted free agent signings that relate to UF? Gators Wire has got you covered.

The 2022 NFL draft has come and gone and another crop of talent is headed to the pros from Gainesville. Three players heard their names called over as many days of the draft, but several more former Gators are finding deals as undrafted free agents.

There’s no guarantee that any of the recent signees make it on an opening day roster or even a practice squad for that matter, but it’s the opportunity most of these players have been working toward for most of their lives. Squandering this chance to fulfill the dream of being an NFL athlete is something they aim to avoid.

There could be more to come too. While names like linebacker [autotag]Jeremiah Moon[/autotag] and running back [autotag]Malik Davis[/autotag] are already locked up, players such as offensive lineman [autotag]Stewart Reese[/autotag] and wide receiver [autotag]Rick Wells[/autotag] are still available.

With that said, let’s take a look at each member of the 2021 Florida Gators football team that currently finds himself with an NFL team.

Florida earns crystal ball prediction for this transfer portal DL

Will Florida be adding some depth soon from the transfer portal?

247Sports’ Blake Alderman logged a crystal ball prediction in favor of the Florida Gators for Maryland transfer [autotag]Darrell Jackson[/autotag] on Thursday.

Jackson and his mother will be in Gainesville for the Gators’ Orange and Blue game and things have been trending in the right direction since he entered the portal. Alderman’s crystal ball is the lone projection for the Gators on 247Sports as of now and it’s unclear how many other schools have pursued him to the degree UF has.

Gators head coach [autotag]Billy Napier[/autotag] noted Florida’s lack of depth in a press conference earlier this week before laying out a plan to be “very aggressive” in the portal. [autotag]Dan Mullen[/autotag] took the same approach last year bringing in [autotag]Tyrone Truesdell[/autotag], [autotag]Antonio Valentino[/autotag] and [autotag]Daquan Newkirk[/autotag] to fill out the defensive line.

Napier’s staff worked quickly to get in touch with Jackson, so he figures to be a high priority on the recruiting board. They already seem to be in a good spot with him and there are rumors that Jackson would like to return to Florida after graduating from Gadsden County High.

If the process lingers on, the Gators plan on bringing him in for an official visit.

247Sports ranked Jackson a three-star recruit out of high school and has yet to give him a transfer designation. He was the No. 90 defensive lineman on the 247Sports composite. He started in all 13 games for the Terrapins as a true freshman, totaling 22 tackles throughout the season.

Florida defensive tackle Lamar Goods enters NCAA transfer portal

Florida redshirt sophomore DT Lamar Goods plans to enter the portal after only registering a single tackle during his career.

Florida redshirt sophomore defensive tackle [autotag]Lamar Goods[/autotag] announced on Instagram Friday that he plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal with spring practice set to conclude next week with the Orange and Blue Game.

“I wanna start by thanking everyone at the University of Florida and that I appreciate and care for all that you have done for me,” Goods wrote. “But after long and hard talks with my family I have decided to enter my name in the transfer portal. I am excited to see where this next chapter in my life takes my academic and football career but will always be proud that I was a gator thank you GATOR NATION.”

He played sparingly during his career with Florida, recording only a single tackle. During spring practices, the media has seen Goods leave early on multiple occasions for reasons unknown.

The Gators are looking for contributors at the defensive tackle position beside a player named [autotag]Gervon Dexter[/autotag] this spring. Former head coach [autotag]Dan Mullen[/autotag] and defensive line coach [autotag]David Turner[/autotag] brought in graduate transfers [autotag]Daquan Newkirk[/autotag], [autotag]Antonio Valentino[/autotag] and [autotag]Tyrone Truesdell[/autotag] as a quick fix to supplement their struggles to recruit the position.

It’s a problem new head coach [autotag]Billy Napier[/autotag] and defensive line coach [autotag]Sean Spencer[/autotag] will have to address via the transfer portal themselves after spring ball wraps up and new names enter the portal.

Transfer Tracker: How former Tigers are foing at their new schools

Here’s what these former Tigers are up to…

The transfer portal was busier than ever this offseason and Auburn’s roster saw plenty of turnover.

Auburn added nine players but saw 14 players leave the program for a variety of reasons.Ā  Some of these players have become important contributors at their new school while others are still looking for a chance to prove themselves.

Here’s a look at how the former Tigers are fairing at their new schools.

Florida football lands former Auburn defensive lineman through transfer portal

Florida has a knack for picking up useful transfer students. Former Auburn Tiger Tyrone Truesdell joins the Gators.

Former Auburn Tiger Tyrone Truesdell is the third defensive tackle to transfer to Florida this season. He has enrolled at UF and will be eligible to play in 2021 for the Gators.

Truesdell joined Auburn as part of the 2017 recruiting class after considering Florida briefly. He became the starting defensive tackle for the Tigers in 2019 but faced some competition this year after coming back for an extra year of eligibility thanks to the NCAA’s COVID extension. Truesdell joins his old Auburn teammate Daquan Newkirk and Penn State transfer Antonio Valentino on the defensive line as transfers.

The addition comes just five days before the season begins for Florida, but it does help add depth should someone go down. Last year, defensive end Zachary Carter spent time up the middle to compensate for injuries. Three graduate transfer tackles with SEC/Big Ten experience is a good way to make sure Carter stays on the edge, where he’s more productive.

Truesdell’s transfer also takes some pressure off the younger names who figure to get into the mix on the line. While Gervon Dexter is expected to take a step forward this year, having the three graduate transfers with him will help in his fourth year of organized football.

Truesdell appeared in 44 games for Auburn and made 19 starts. He totaled 67 tackles, nine tackles for a loss, two fumble recoveries and three sacks. Coming out of high school, 247Sports rated the three-star prospect the No. 36 defensive tackle in the country.

Auburn football: Three Tigers named to Reese’s Senior Bowl Top 250

The game is played annually in Mobile following the season.

An invitation to the Reese’s Senior Bowl is a valuable way for college players to show off their skills early to a bunch of NFL scouts at the annual event in Mobile.

Three Auburn players might get that chance following the 2020 season as they have been named to top 250 for the game: linebacker KJ Britt, BUCK Big Kat Bryant and defensive lineman Tyrone Truesdell.

Per the game’s site:

The Reeseā€™s Senior Bowl is the nationā€™s most prestigious college all-star game, as it annually serves as the first step of the NFL draft process, which explains our hashtag, #TheDraftStartsInMOBILE.Ā  The Reeseā€™s Senior Bowl has had 93 total players and 40 selected in the first three rounds each of the past two years, including 10 first-round picks in the 2019 NFL Draft.Ā  The 93 figure represents nearly 40% of the total draft these past two years.Ā  One thing that differentiates the Reeseā€™s Senior Bowl from other all-star games is the participation of two full NFL coaching staffs.Ā  Last year, the two teams were coached by the Detroit Lions and Cincinnati Bengals and there were over 900 credentialed NFL personnel in Mobile, AL. for game week.
