Florida lands commitment from this underrated WR prospect

Florida fans, welcome three-star wide receiver Tyree Patterson to the Gators 2023 recruiting class!

Head coach [autotag]Billy Napier[/autotag] landed the first commitment of his significant bump class. A coach’s bump class is usually the best recruiting class he will have with a new school since it’s almost impossible for other schools to negatively recruit against him. He and Florida gained their first pledge in their 2023 recruiting class from three-star wide receiver Tyree Patterson.

The Eustis, Florida, native is ranked as the 571st overall prospect and as the 79th best player at his position, according to the 247Sports composite rankings. Patterson, as of writing, only holds scholarship offers from the Gators, Liberty, Massachusetts and North Texas.

However, he hasn’t camped much, which plays a big factor in how prospects are ranked by recruiting services. He also had a junior season where he caught 53 passes for 1,078 yards and 13 touchdowns. Since it’s early in the cycle, Patterson could always see his stock rise. Sports Illustrated named Patterson as one of 12 prospects that impressed at the ESPN 300 Elite Underclassmen Camp.

It’s questionable why Napier and wide receivers coach [autotag]Keary Colbert[/autotag] took his commitment in April, but Florida fans should relax as long as the Gators pair Patterson with a bunch of ballers like four-stars [autotag]Hykeem Williams[/autotag], [autotag]Eugene Wilson[/autotag], [autotag]Tyler Williams[/autotag] and [autotag]Aidan Mizell[/autotag]. The Gators plan to sign a deep wide receiver class this cycle.

ESPN’s list of teams in need a big 2023 recruiting haul includes Florida

The pressure is on for Billy Napier to bring in a strong 2023 recruiting class.

Billy Napier managed to put together a pretty decent recruiting class in just two months after taking over Florida, but the class of 2023 will be the real measuring stick by which he’s judged. ESPN put together a list of five college football programs that are in dire need of a strong haul in 2023, and the Gators predictably made the cut.

Former coach [autotag]Dan Mullen[/autotag] left the team with plenty of holes and Napier has been clear about his team lacking depth in the spring. He’ll look to the transfer portal to fill some of those voids for the upcoming season, but the players he signs in December and February will be the cornerstones of the “Napier Era.”

Mullen’s recruiting at Florida was up and down, and a criticism from media and fans was often on the developmental side with the high-level prospects not panning out.

Napier took over and recruited five ESPN 300 commits in the 2022 class, finishing No. 31 in the class rankings… While Napier proved he was able to win at Louisiana, he is probably going to have to show recruits he and his staff can win in Gainesville to gain their trust.

Florida has ESPN 300 athlete [autotag]Aaron Gates[/autotag] committed in the 2023 cycle, which is a good start, but this class will be highly important for Napier going forward.

Florida added three-star receiver [autotag]Tyree Patterson[/autotag] to the commitment list on Sunday, but he and Gates are just the start for Napier. A fleet of five-star and four-star recruits have visited Gainesville over the spring, most recently for the Orange and Blue game on Thursday. The Gators have themselves in a good position to land at least a few blue-chippers, but nothing is certain until the pen hits paper.

Napier knows the importance of recruiting and has put a major focus on it since he took over. In his introductory press conference, he claimed he’d build an army, and six months later he has one of the deepest recruiting staffs in the country. The pressure may be on, but Napier and Co. seem up to the challenge that is recruiting high school athletes in the year 2022.

Florida jumps to the top for this coveted WR after receiving offer

Three-star wide receiver quickly named the Gators his leader following their scholarship offer on Friday.

Florida’s scholarship offer was a game-changer in three-star wide receiver [autotag]Tyree Patterson[/autotag]’s recruitment. He told Gators Online that the Gators lead for him after they offered him on Friday. 247Sports individual rankings have Patterson as a three-star recruit and as the 128th best wideout in the country.

“That is my top school right now,” Patterson said. “It’s just the environment and how they treated me when I went on my unofficial visit. It wasn’t just a regular unofficial visit; it felt like home with the way the coaches treated me. Everybody is cool.”

It’s not surprising that Florida soared to the top of his leaderboard on Friday. Patterson currently only holds only three scholarship offers from Liberty, UMass and North Texas. He’s definitely an under-the-radar prospect but had a solid junior season, reeling in 53 catches for 1,078 yards and 13 touchdowns.

He originally made it down to Florida in March and plans to visit the Swamp again for the Orange and Blue game.

Patterson said that the offer didn’t catch him off guard because a handful of coaches have been communicating with him since he last visited.

He hopes to make a decision sometime during his senior season.
